Chapter 11
"Flora!" Miele screamed running back over to me. The pain was intense, so fucking intense, but I didn't want to cry, not in front of Miele, but at the same time I didn't know what else to do. Miele sat over me calling my name over and over, but if I opened my mouth I know that the only thing that would come out would be another scream so I kept my mouth closed and prayed for a way out of this. Suddenly the sun was blocked out. I looked up glaring through the tears that I refused to let fall. A rush of relief rushed over me.
"I don't want Miele to see me like this" I stated to the figure that stood above me. My voice came out strained and I knew that they were the only words that I probably would be getting out as I clenched my teeth from the pain. Helia bent down to me concerned before noticing my small protector protecting me from him. Her lip quivered slightly as she stared at him menacingly. If I wasn't in so much damn pain at the moment I would've been in awe at her, meanwhile laughing at the complete look of befuddlement that washed over Helia's face under Miele's intense glare. Yeah I would've been but I'm not. Instead I'm in a semi fetal position trying to calm the pain down enough so that I don't freak out my sister any more than I already have. Out of the corner of my eye I see him look at me, before looking at Miele. I guess he realized that there was no getting to me without going through her, because he sits down in front of her.
"Are you Miele?" He asked cautiously. She looked at me as if to ask if it was okay. I nodded my head at her and she looked back at Helia before slowly shaking her head yes. He looked back and forth between the two of us before continuing, "Is this your sister?" He asked. I looked at him inquisitively wondering how he guessed that and meanwhile I guess that Miele had nodded her head yes. He smiled at bit at her before continuing. "Well I'm not exactly sure what happened here, but if you tell me maybe I can help. Your sister and I are neighbors, and we work together. I would hate to see her hurt." He continued frowning slightly at the end. With that Miele broke down.
"It's my fault! I was clumsy, but Flora caught me but now her ankle is sprained!" she cried out. Helia looked a bit relieved, and almost annoyed before recovering himself, I'm guessing for Miele's sake.
"I'm sure that it wasn't your fault Miele, and sprains really aren't that big of a deal. It's like stubbing your toe. It hurts a lot at first, but then it's fine."
"Really?" She asked
"Yeah" I answered finding my voice. "Hey Meels can you run back into the garden and get my bag? I think that I left it there. Helia here is going to help me up while you're gone." I stated with the best smile that I could put forth. She looked at me unsure before complying. I watched her walk the few yards and turn before I looked back to Helia.
"Is it really just a sprain?" He asked very bluntly.
"I'm not sure." I answered honestly. He looked down to where my hand had been the entire time and then up to my eyes as if silently telling me to move it. Slowly I released my ankle from my hand and my body recoiled at the shock of the pain.
"Flora this more than a sprain." He stated worry evident in his voice. He looked around as if thinking for a moment. He let out a deep sigh. "Come on. I'm going to take you to the hospital."
"No! I have to take Miele home first." I whispered loudly to him.
"Flora you're hurt, your ankle may be broken." He stated incredulously.
"I know." I replied exasperated. "I'll go right after I drop her off, but I don't need her to worry about two of us being in the hospital."
"Two who?" Helia asked clearly not knowing what I was talking about. That's when I realized What the hell am I talking about? Instantly regretting my slip of the tongue about Emily I answered. "It doesn't matter. Whether you help me or not I am NOT talking Miele to the hospital with me." He just stared at me, I'm sure not really knowing what to say.
"Flora I got your bag." Miele suddenly spoke standing above me. "I thought that Helia was going to help you." She stated sounding confused. I continued looking at Helia as he stared at me neither one of us really wanting to back down yet. I was silently hoping that he would just help, because realistically at this moment he was my only option. His brows began to furrow deeper as he glared at me before showing a look of defeat.
"I'm going to help her up right now." He stated looking up at Miele with an obviously softer look than what he had just given me a moment ago. "Can you walk ahead a bit, you know, just to make sure that there aren't any more holes since I won't be able to see the ground as well carrying Flora." Miele nodded as she began intensely searching about for holes. Hopefully her attention was intense enough that she didn't hear the intense yelp that I was bound to let out once Helia lifted me. He brought himself around to the side of me and looked at me carefully. Taking one arm he carefully put it around the back of my head leaning me forward before slowly putting a hand under my leg causing me to wince in pain. Laying me back down he thought for a minute looking around before he grabbed a towel that he had with him. He looked up at me before saying. "I'm sorry." Carefully as he may it still didn't stop the sharp shoots of pain that shot up my leg as he wrapped the towel around it making a make shift bandage. The pain hurt so bad that at some point I had just pulled my face into his shirt gripping the sleeves as hard as I could. When he finished he let me stay that way for a second catching my breath before he tried once again to lift me.
I grit my teeth as he finally got me off of the ground and he carried me bridal style as I burrowed my head into the crook of his neck. It hurt so much, but I knew that if Helia hadn't bandaged my ankle first and that if he hadn't taken each step so delicately so as to not make my leg flop around unnecessarily that I would be in a lot more pain. He continued carrying me slowly and carefully while Miele stayed on hole watching. Finally he stopped as I heard a door open and felt myself being lowered into a car. I took my face out of his neck for the first time looking at my surroundings. I was in the parking lot in a car, a very nice car, however… this wasn't my car.
"Wait here." He stated closing the door, being careful to not hurt my leg as I sat sideways in the back seat with my legs propped up.
"Flora." I suddenly heard. I looked into the front seat to see Miele. "I'm really sorry." She stated looking at me pitifully.
"Oh Meels it's not your fault. Come here." She climbed over the front seat as I did a quick prayer hoping that she wouldn't somehow land on my ankle. A breath of relief escaped me when she didn't and I hugged her tightly trying my best to make her feel okay. "Look, mistakes happen and accidents happen, and though we're lucky that Helia is helping us out, I don't want you to every run over to a stranger like that again do you understand me?" She nodded her head wiping her eyes and I brought her in for another hug. Suddenly the car door opened.
"Are you allergic to aspirin?" Helia asked. I shook my head startled at his sudden appearance and furrowed brow. "Here take two of these." He handed me two pills and a bottle of water. I thanked him and did what he told me to. "Come to the front Miele we have to get you home." He spoke once he was back in the driver's seat.
"No wait Helia." I stated lifting my head up. Miele come sit here. Miele complied helping me lift my head a bit so that she can sit under me. "She's still too young to sit in the front." I explained as she put her seatbelt on. I could see him nodding through the rearview mirror.
"So where are we going?" He asked. Realization hit me suddenly.
"Right. My cellphone is in the house, but if you let me use yours I can call Layla and she can take us to-"
"Miele give me your address." Helia asked cutting me off. Miele answered as Helia put it into the GPS. "Got it." Turning up the radio he tuned out any and all of my objections and he pulled out headed for my mom's house.
Authors Notes: Thanks for reading. I'll update as soon as I can. For those of you reading Unwrapped present, I have written a couple of drafts, but I'm still up in the air about what I want to do. I probably won't post anything for that until my quarter ends. Sorry.
