Sail Away with Me Chapter 11

A/N: Well that was an interesting first chapter for being back at this. Let's see if I can top it. Ha. Theme song for this chapter is Timothy by The Tallest Man on Earth. -MoonlitShadow

Sailor found Gally sitting on the opposite side of the mess hall from where her brother was waving her down.

She sent a smile in her husband's direction but doubted that he noticed.

He was too upset about the new rules to see anything but fury at the moment.

So, taking a seat next to her brother was the best idea she had and noticed how it made his eyes sparkle with unsung delight.

"Good. I'm glad you're taking this bloody seriously." He said with a nod of approval making her roll her eyes yet again for what felt like the millionth time that morning.

She reckoned it hadn't even been 10 a.m. yet and all she had done was roll her eyes at her brother.

But, that was what siblings did wasn't it? She was sure there was some unwritten rule that siblings had to do that at least four times a day or it didn't count that they were siblings.

Newt smiled happily over at Alby who was watching the pair with a curious look.

He nodded once to the blondes before going back to his breakfast.

"I can get you some breakfast if you'd like." Newt said cautiously as he nodded in the direction of Frypan serving food.

Sailor shrugged her shoulders but silently nodded making Newt let out a huff of frustration.

Great. So now he has his sister but now she wouldn't bloody talk to him. Things were going shuckin well so far.

As he got up from the table, Newt caught Gally's eyes and nodded some kind of thanks in his direction that the builder quickly ignored.

Great. Just great. Now they were both ignoring him.

"Well, what did you expect ya guilty shank?" A voice said from behind him. Newt turned and saw that Clint and Jeff were looking rather amused at his predicament.

Newt shook his head and gave a roll of his own set of brown eyes.

"I don't bloody know. I just thought I was doing what was best."

He murmured as he turned to Frypan and thanked him for the two plates that were handed his way.

Jeff scoffed and Clint shook with laughter.

"You're a silly shank. Of course you want what's best for them. If by them you mean your sister after all. I'm not sure Gally thinks you know what's best for anyone right now." Newt shot another look over to the builder who was eyeing his sister with a pained look.

Scowling he waved off the medjacks concerns and headed back to see his sister who seemed to be bored out of her mind at whatever the Gladers around her were discussing.

"Here we are." He said with fake enthusiasm as he placed the plates in front of them.

Sailor nodded and murmured a thank you before digging into the slop that looked like a mix of eggs and bacon but she wasn't sure.

Breakfast felt like it dragged on painfully long as she waited for Newt and the other garden keepers to finish.

Tapping her sneakers against the wooden floor of the mess hall, she huffed out an annoyed breath as she watched Gally and the other builders exit the builder.

She smirked though when the Keeper of the builders blew her a kiss and sent her a saucy wink promising sweet things to come later.

If and when they could.

Turning back to the table of gardeners, she felt suddenly alone as she looked between the boys that she would be spending the day with.

Of course there was her brother, Zart and a few other characters that she didn't bother to learn their names.

As they got up to leave, she saw her brother glance back at Alby almost looking pained himself but shook her head and headed out into the bright sunshine instead of being concerned.

Squinting in the sunlight, she held her hand up to her forehead to shield herself from it's burning brightness.

The gardens were on the other side of the Glade and as far as she could tell the gardeners and keepers were in no hurry to get there as they moseyed slowly through the long grass.

Glancing over at what seemed like the other side of the universe, she saw that Gally and the builders were hard at work with what looked like repairing shingles for the Homstead's roof.

He already looked hot and sweaty making her insides clench hard with a need she hadn't felt in what felt like forever.

Just as she was going off into her own thoughts to daydream about her husband's hot and sweaty body, she felt a hand clamp down on her shoulder rather hard making her yelp with surprise.

Turning to look beside her she saw that her brother was looking down at her with his brown eyes that matched her own. "Come on, then. We'll head to the shed out back to grab some tools and the others will meet us in the fields, good that?"

She nodded and felt herself inwardly groan. "Good that."

She said simply as she followed her brother around near one of the farther back walls of the Glade was surprised to see a small wooden storage shed that was built into the rocky side of the wall.

The window on the small shed was cracked slightly and the dusty darkness inside made her squirm with uneasiness.

"Here we are. Here. You take these. And I'll take these. Are you sure you can't carry more? Bloody hell you're weak for my sister." Newt murmured as he handed her a bunch of rakes and hoes along with a basket or two before wheeling out a wheelbarrow that carried even more supplies.

"Not like I'd ever thought I'd be gardening to say the least." She muttered under her breath making him roll his eyes in exasperation.

"Whatever, love. Come on. Let's go share your bright, sunny attitude with the other gardeners, yeah? I'm sure they'll be thrilled to hear you moan and groan about how lovely life here is." He said as he marched off with the wheelbarrow with his sister following slowly behind him.

Sailor scoffed and groaned slightly as she felt beads of sweat start to appear on her forehead from the hot morning sun.

She could feel the stares and even some glares of the other Gladers as she passed where they worked.

It felt like it took forever to get to the Glade's gardens. Rows and rows of fields were spread out over the East side of the Glade.

Anything from fruit trees to corn stalks stood tall and proud in the sunshine.

She had even been told that both Zart and Newt kept their own special plants in pots in their bedrooms in the Homestead as if gardening for 12 hours straight a day wasn't enough.

She shrugged internally as she handed out the supplies to the other gardeners working in her particular section.

Today she and Newt were tasked with harvesting the strawberry plants and giving them water and fertilizer to make them grow bigger and stronger.

Zart kept a watchful eye on the siblings before turning back to his own tasks.

They all worked silently together, going through the rows and rows picking and pruning the plants.

It was then that a thought occurred to Sailor as she picked a just ripened strawberry from its shady spot on a vine.

"So, do you like it here in the Glade or do you miss it? You know, home?" she asked quietly as her brother turned slowly and gave her a look.

"I don't remember much about home honestly. I've been here for too bloody long. Three years will do that to you, you know." He said in a slightly snarky tone making her scoff and turn away to pick another strawberry.

"Well I remember it. And I like it a lot better at home. It was better when we had our own rooms." She said nonchalantly making Newt chuckle.

"Well love, you'll be having your own room tonight and until further notice. It's right next to mine actually. That way I can keep a bloody eye on you." He stated in his matter of fact tone that always drove her nuts.

"Great. Just great." She muttered hoping that her day would get better than this. It had to. Something better had to happen. And as if on cue, a loud blaring alarm sounded over the Glade making both she and Newt freeze in place.

"What the shuck?" Newt exclaimed loudly before grabbing her arm and leading her over to where the Box stood in the middle of the Glade.

"For shuck's sake what is it now?" Gally growled as he stepped up beside them.

"Don't bloody know but I have a feeling I don't want to bloody know." Newt murmured as Gally nodded in agreement. Gally gently pushed Sailor out of the way and made sure to get a good look at the Box as it was coming up.

Although the darkened grates didn't unveil their mystery just yet.

As soon as the alarm stopped blaring, Gally and the rest of the Keepers scrambled to open the grates and peer into the darkness below.

Gally jumped down to confirm what he already knew he saw.

"What is it, Captain?" Newt yelled down as Alby flanked his side. Gally sighed heavily and moved so the sunlight could catch on the newest member of the Glade's unconscious form.

"It's a greenie, mates. But not just any greenie. Sailor, it's Thomas." He stated loudly making Sailor fall to the ground and silence to fall all around her. Things were about to change.

Something big was about to happen.
