Chapter 11: Reality

Everything that surrounded him was nothing, nothing but a eternal, pitch ebony, and seemingly infinite darkness. He felt his energy slowly being chewed away by the pit that would swallow him into a stomach of an eternal sleep. His nerves stung his senses, the pain forcing him awake. Something sticky steadily trickled down his cheek, out of...

...

"... Akashi-kun?"

That sweet, quiet voice perked his ears up, snapping him awake almost immediately. His unharmed eyelid fluttered open to reveal a hazy ruby iris, filled with a dazed look. It was so soft, so different from his normal firm look.

His blurred vision began to clear the haze, revealing an image of the light blue-haired male, kneeling beside him, his hands clasping his. His cyan eyes were filled with utter anxiety and sheer worry.

"... T - Tetsuya..." he tried to call out, but it came out as nothing but a pathetic strangled whimper. His outstretched fingers weakly brushed against the shorter male's pallid cheek, who in turn clasped the icy cold frailness in his small warm hands.

"... Don't speak anymore..." Kuroko said softly. His eyes darkened with sadness. He brought Akashi's palm to his lips and pressed them against it with a subtle affection. The said red-haired male let out a small smile as he felt the minuscule warmth spread throughout his cold body for a brief moment, before fading away to an icy numbness once more.

"... I love you..." he murmured with a hoarse voice, which was just loud enough for Kuroko to hear. "I... always do..." Amidst the trickling scarlet, crystalline tears blended in and sparkled brightly. His words brought Kuroko to silence, his eyes widening, his usual calm facade obviously broken by his overflowing emotions, that brought tears to his eyes as well.

"... As do I, Akashi... kun..." His normally stoic voice was now dripping with a slight emotion that was so mild yet so strong as water trickled down his chalky cheeks. He bent down so that he was on face level with Akashi and looked at him in the eye. The said prostitute then reached out and pulled the blue-clad male's head towards his, pressing startled lips against his quivering ones. Their connection stayed for a brief moment before Kuroko slowly pulled away, looking at Akashi in disbelief. His cheeks were slightly pink, the light in his eyes flashing ever so brightly.

"... Akashi-kun..." he breathed in disbelief as his fingers intertwined with the fallen male. The latter's fingers twitched in response, before closing down on the kneeling teen's hand.

"Tetsuya... listen..." His grip tightened. "... If you ever get a chance... Escape from Haizaki... Escape this demonic place..."

"B - But Kise-kun - "

"He should be safe... under Daiki's care..." The gleam of light in Akashi's eyes began to grow dim as a black soul began to eat away at his life. "I've been foolish... I wasn't strong enough to suppress Haizaki... and his men... He massacred my entire family and captured... me..."

Kuroko was at a loss of words as he silently listened to the story the scarlet-eyed male was struggling to get out.

"To satiate his lustful and maniac ambitions... He forced me, and all the maids at my residence, to be his servants for his experiment... An experiment that would give him more data to research on his ultimate goal - this haunted house of prostitution."

"He wanted... domination... An ultimate power for him to rule the world. And in order for him... to do that, he started with this very building. He hated us... ever since middle school... especially me... so he took me in first and subjected me to various tests..."

With an abrupt shock running down his spine, Kuroko then realised, that Akashi, all this while after high school, was being used as a guinea pig.

Trapped within the menacing skull-embossed hands of Haizaki's lust, desire, and ambitions to dominate the world...

But Haizaki... he could have... done something else...

As if he was reading the cyan-eyed male's thoughts, Akashi muttered, "He thought of the worst ways possible... to torture me... which lead to this..." His voice becomes choked with a strange noise, which caught Kuroko's attention.

"I... don't want to die..." he choked out.

The blue-haired male stared at his dying love, the tears dripping from his eyes like feathers dancing their way down towards the ground. With his arms, he pulled Akashi up and embraced the icy-cold body.

"A - Akashi-kun..." he sobbed quietly. There was nothing more he could say as the harsh reality began to dawn on him, cruelly and painfully.

His time had come early.

"... I... always love you..." the scarlet-haired male whispered as his eyelids descended, his beautiful eye fading away from sight. What replaced the little warmth he had left in his body was a gust of icy wind, which blew against Kuroko's face. The air around them began to freeze up as well, chilling him to the bone. Sniffling and sobbing silently, he pressed his face against soft crimson locks of hair. His heart throbbed painfully inside of him as a sharp pain wracked his nerves, causing the water in his eyes to boil.

Akashi is dead.

Choked gasps escaped his throat as his voice let out a loud cry of sheer anguish and indescribable agony, which echoed about in the huge emptiness of the room. Never had he felt such pain in his entire life before.

But it had already happened.

He... will never come back...

Ever again.

"Kise Ryouta can be discharged today."

Those were the words Aomine was seriously dying to hear for a whole month. As he strode into the ward, he caught sight of the blonde, dressed in a plain shirt and jeans, sitting on the edge of the bed with a bright smile. This sight caused the tan male to do the exact same thing.

How long had it been since Kise smiled...? He was always smiling like an innocent idiot during the middle school days. He walked up to the patient and ruffled his hair teasingly.

"A - Aominecchi!" Kise exclaimed in surprise. "What are you doing!?" A laugh slipped past his lips as he looked up at Aomine, before hugging him. He closed his eyes and breathed in the ace's scent, which spiced up his nose a little.

"... Kise? Is something wrong...?"

"Nothing," he mumbled. The cheeriness in his voice has died down, and was replaced with his usual sad voice, something he had been hearing for days since their very first reunion in the prostitution house. "Last night... I dreamt that everything was all red... all bloody..."

"... Hm..."

"I saw Akashicchi with big wings on his back. He was bleeding all over, and was falling head-first... And then he got swallowed up by the darkness." His hands trembled. "Aominecchi... did Akashicchi... die...?"

The last word threw Aomine into a state of confusion and shock. The last time he saw him...

He was bleeding from his eye, and was doubling over in pain, and yet... he asked them to escape.

There was no way he was fine in such a situation.

He returned the embrace, trying to assure the blonde that everything will be fine, but instead he said, "I... don't know." The moment he said it, he wanted to punch himself in the face so badly and cursed himself for saying something upsetting.

Kise snuggled himself in Aomine's arms. "I... hope he's fine... He has to..." He let out a forced smile, but Aomine could see the conflict in the amber irises of his, shining brightly, gleaming amidst the dullness of his happiness. It made his heart sink, seeing the blonde upset. He rubbed the latter's back, silently assuring him that it would be all right.

Breaking the silence, he pulled away and smiled faintly. "Come, let's go home."

He was replied with an enthusiastic nod.

When they reached the familiar doors of Aomine's house, the owner pushed them open, leading to the living room. What laid by their feet at the doormat was the daily pile of letters, which consisted of the everyday bill, promotional things, and so on.

The basketball player picked one up and took a long glance at it. "Hey Kise, this one's addressed to you..." He made a long face as the thought of Kise's past-time fans stalking him came into his mind.

Girls nowadays... He shook his head.

"... For me?" he questioned, his voice filled with doubt. Aomine nodded silently as he thrust the envelope over to the blonde, an annoyed expression painted on his face. Taking the letter in his hands, Kise squinted his eyes at the delicate handwriting.

"I'll... read it later," he said quietly as a small frown appeared on his face. Taking no notice of it, the tan male nodded as he made his way into the kitchen. Kise, loudly announcing that he was going to take a quick break in the bathroom, briskly walked into the said room, envelope in hand, and shut the door behind him. He then turned the lock with a 'click'.

Sighing as he leant against the door, the blonde then looked at the envelope once more, scrutinizing the handwriting.

It was... strangely familiar...

He ripped the envelope open, and a folded piece of paper fell out of it and landed with a soft thud on the floor. Picking it up, he then read the contents, before letting out short interrupted gasps of panic. He then flung the paper as far as it could as he slumped down onto the floor, leaning against the door. The paper drifted about in the air, before changing courses and returned to Kise's feet as he hid his face with his hands, his body trembling.

"No... This... can't be..."

End of Chapter 11

End note: Because I'm so fabulously fail at cliffhangers orz

Firstly, if you were upset over Akashi's death... DON'T KILL ME QAQAQ

I SWEAR I WAS CRYING LIKE A CRAZY WOMAN OKAY QAQAQ *FLEES*

THIS IS BAD.

THIS IS REALLY REALLY BAD.

ESPECIALLY SINCE KUROKO'S BIRTHDAY JUST PASSED OMG OTL

*cries at a corner ;u;*

On a side note, I would like to address KensyEcho's review!

I noticed some of you all were asking why I made Aomine and Kise brothers :3 huehue you shall know in the future chapters, guehehehe c: *is evil but yolo :v* Also, Aomine usually calls Kise 'Kise' but when they're like really, really close, like sharing a really close moment (REALLY REALLY REALLY OHGODWHY), then he will call him Ryouta c:

For the AU part, Aomine is in some kind of university thingy (DO THEY HAVE UNIVERSITIES IN JAPAN OMG IDK HAHAHA I'M SORRYYYY) and he plays for the basketball team so in short, he still plays basketball :U hopefully this chapter about Akashi's past and how he came to be under Haizaki's control helped a little ehehe ^

And Aomine's not under Haizaki because he's too badass for Haizaki pls xD

Who else can Haizaki top, eh..? Not the tall guys for sure *shot*

Hopefully this clears things up even if it's just a little!

Thanks for reading and tell me what you think about this chapter! :3
