I am sorry it took me so long to update. The story was inspired by Diem Brown and CT from the challenge on MTV and when she passed I just… I lost my muse for a bit. But I am back and hopefully you guys will like what I am laying down for you. I don't own anything but my words and I hope for those of you who know someone or you, yourself who experienced something like this find inspiration to continue on when life seems like a really dark place. Love and blessings to you all.

Mercedes gripped her side in agonizing pain, it seemed to increase with moving so she stayed still praying the worst was over. She barely made it to the couch where her purse was. She cried out as another round of torture hit her. Her doctor said to expect discomfort but this, this was almost unbearable. She grabbed her phone gripping her side again as she hit number one on her speed dial.

The phone rang and went to voicemail and she screamed out in frustration remembering he and Puck were indisposed. They were on a secret mission and wouldn't tell her anything. She sighed hitting two and waiting. Kurt answered on the second ring.

"Diva what's going on? You usually call me later in the day."

Mercedes cried out in pain as she tried to tell Kurt what was wrong. Kurt began to panic the moment he heard her scream.

"Mercy? Mercedes? What's going on? Are you ok?" I am coming over right now ok?" without even giving her a chance to respond he hung up the phone running to his car and making the five minute drive to her house. He called her parents knowing they would want to get a flight out. Kurt arrived in record time. 3 minutes and 34 seconds. He was talking to Tina as he unlocked the door. He walked in finding her on the couch in tears.

"Kurt something is wrong."

Kurt moved to her side dialing Sam as he pulled her up. "Sam I am taking Mercedes to the hospital. Something is wrong, meet us there."

They had made it to the door as another wave of pain hit her and she doubled over. Tears spilled from her eyes and Kurt held her.

"Tell me what to do?"

Mercedes sighed taking a deep breath. "Tell me a story. Talk to me about something anything and get me to the car." She said through clenched teeth.

Kurt nodded. "Ok... remember when Sam asked you to marry him?"

Sam moved closer to her and placed a gentle kiss on her lips. "I love you. I am in love with you and I don't care if I get five minutes or a lifetime with you I just want to be with you."

"Sam, you do realize that if my doctor comes in here and says it didn't work that I will have months left, maybe less."

"And if that is the case then I will deal with it. I want to be with you. I want to make a life with you."

Mercedes felt tears come to her eyes. "Sam what are you saying?"

"I am saying I want to be your husband. Mercedes Jones would you do me the honor of being my wife? Marry me and make me the happiest guy in the world."

Mercedes stared at Sam wondering if he was sure he knew what he was getting himself into. She felt tears come to her eyes, fear and uncertainty ran through her mind. But the moment her eyes caught his smile, she knew what she wanted.

"I love you Sam, I love you so much how can I say anything but yes."

Sam pulled her to him and kissed her passionately. She wrapped her arms around him as someone cleared their throat. They pulled away seeing her doctor walk into the room with her parents, followed by Sam's. He cleared his throat.

"Your test results are in Mercy."

Mercedes tried to sit up and Sam helped her. Kurt walked into the room holding Blaine's hand.

Dr. Connor smiled looking over to Mercedes. "Your initial test are really good. We will need to run the test again in a month and then again in six months but we are really hopeful."

Sam felt like crying. He smiled widely moving to the side to allow her parents and Kurt to hug her. His mom smiled pulling him closer to her.

"This is wonderful news. I am so happy for her, for you too."

"She's gonna be ok… that's all I wanted."

His mom reached into her purse and pulled out a box. "Really because I thought you would want this too. I had your grandmother ship it here over night."

Sam took the ring box and opened it seeing his great grandmother's 2 carat diamond ring. Sam looked at her. "Mom, are you sure?"

"Sam she is amazing. I spent the first five minutes with her like "yeah I can see why Sam loves her". Amelia and I got it sized already. Mercedes is great Sammy and as long as this is what you want, you have my full support."

"More than anything, I have never been so sure about anything in my life. Sam saw Mercedes dad move so his wife could get to their daughter and he took a deep breath nodding at his mom and walking over to Percy. He turned away from everyone and cleared his throat.

"Mr. Jones I wanted to ask you if you, I wanted to know if, I want to marry your daughter."

Percy glanced at Sam and gave a knowing smile. That was something he knew the moment he laid eyes on the boy.

"I see. And you want my blessing?"

"Yes sir. I know we have only known each other a couple of months, two of those weeks she was in a coma but I have never been so sure about anything in my life. I know she is my person, that one person I am supposed to spend the rest of my life with."

Percy glanced over to Mercedes who was currently being hugged by Mary. He motioned for Sam to join him in the hall and nodded towards Dwight, to come with them. Once in the hall, Percy spoke up. "Sam, when you have a child, your dream is for them to grow up start a family. Live their lives to the fullest. When I found out my daughter was sick. I feared the worst. She beat it once and I thought she would finally get to be a normal girl. Fall in love and be happy, she even started dating and to my dismay got her heart broken by a guy who frankly wasn't worthy to breathe the same air as her. But then the cancer came back and that fire she had finally had died a little. She pushed everyone away except a fair few.

Kurt and Tina, my wife and I were sat down by Mercedes and she told us she had no intention of giving up, but she knew it was a battle. She was fearless and fearful at the same time. But she never gave up. When we heard about this new treatment she sat us down again and we all talked it over. She said this was her chance and what would be, would be. She would stop chemo, and just live. She knew she would have to get sicker and it did scare her but she believed whatever was going to happen would happen.

She knew there was a higher chance it would fail, but she had made up her mind. I see the way you look at her, how you only left her side, when your parents made you. I know you love her and are in love with her and that is all I ever wanted for her. This isn't going to be easy Sam. There is a chance that her cancer will return again. That you will lose her. Before I give you my blessing I need to know you understand that."

Sam sighed. "Sir in all honesty I don't care if I get her for a day or a lifetime. I just want to be with her."

Dwight cleared his throat. "Sam, when I met your mother I knew the moment she smiled at me that she was the one. When I met Mercedes, and I saw you with her, I saw that same look in your eyes that I had. That I still have, that I see in Percy's when he looks at his wife. If he gives you his blessing, know you have my support as well."

Sam smiled looking over to Percy. "Sir I know I can make her happy."

"And you are willing to give up your life just like that?"

"I have no life without her. Up until the day I met her I only existed. I never really lived. I thought I had but I was wrong."

Percy stared at him for a minute wondering if he was sincere. Dwight was right about the look, Sam was a man in love and at the moment, Percy couldn't think of anyone better for his little girl.

Dwight smiled looking at Percy. "My son is a good man, he doesn't jump into things lightly, and he will do everything in his power to make her happy."

"She will do that same for him, no matter how long they have."

Percy felt tears sting his eyes. "She's so strong willed and a fighter. That's my little girl in there, my life. And I never thought I would see this day, the day she stopped fighting and gave in to love."

He fought back tears, and nodded seeing the same misty eyed look not only in Sam but Dwight too. It was then he knew, there was no man better for his Mercy.

"You have my blessing Sam. Make her happy, and you will be alright in my book."

Sam did a fist pump and pulled Percy into a hug, then hugged his dad. He smiled widely walking back into the room followed by Percy and Dwight. Mercedes smiled up to him as he walked over to her.

"And where did you three run off too?"

Sam looked back at both men and turned to her getting down on his knee. He knew he already asked her but this time he would do it right.

"The moment I met you, something inside me needed to get to know you. Something pulled me closer to you without me even realizing it. It was more than just your beauty it was your soul. I never believed that I would find someone I could absolutely not be able to live without. You make me want to be better. To be good enough and I know I am unworthy of a love like yours, but if you Mercedes Jones would be my wife, I would spend whatever time we had left becoming worthy of you."

Tears fell from her eyes as everyone waited for her answer. "Sam, you are and always will be worthy. I love you, yes, yes I will."

Mercedes smiled through the pain at the story. Sam never told her what he and her dad talked about but she didn't care. At that moment her life was blessed. Sam was the love of her life and she loved having someone around her that would be there to share the highs and lows with her.

Pain coursed through her again and all she could think was, where the hell her husband was.

Sam looked over to Puck shaking his head. "This was the dumbest idea you have ever had man."

Puck folded his arms. "This is not my fault! I have done this before… it's just been a while."

Sam looked at the mess before him. Nothing was turning out the way it was supposed to. He wanted to surprise Mercedes for their three year anniversary with a house. Sam wanted to hire contract painters to paint the house, but no Puck had to convince him they could do it themselves. It was not a pretty sight.

"Puck that's it. I am hiring someone. This has to be done in three days. Three! There is no point in an anniversary gift if on the anniversary in question you have no gift!"

"Ok I am sorry I just thought I would save you some money."

Sam laughed shaking his head. It's not like they needed to save money, Puck just wanted to spend time with him but didn't want to admit it. After Sam and Mercedes got engaged everything started to fall into place. He got drafted by the Tennessee Titans and it was the second happiest day of his life.

Mercedes didn't hesitate to pack up her things the moment she heard, she transferred schools and soon they had their routine down with visits from her parents every few months. She found a doctor in town that knew her case and worked with her to make sure she was fine. They married three months after he was drafted and now almost three years later he didn't think he could be happier.

He walked over and grabbed his phone finding it weird Mercedes hadn't called him. He frowned when he realized it was dead. He forgot to charge it while working. Pulling out his charger he plugged it in, waiting for it to power up.

Once it did he frowned seeing he had five voicemails. His face dropped hearing one from Mercedes two from Kurt and one each from both their parents. Sam looked at Puck grabbing his things. "We gotta go. Now!"

Puck followed him frowning. "Dude what's wrong?"

"Its Mercy, Kurt had to rush her to the hospital. Something is wrong with her… what if?"

His voice trailed off as he was afraid to finish his thought. Puck pulled him into a hug. "Stop it ok. She is gonna be fine. I am sure whatever it is, she will be fine. Come on let me drive. I will call Quinn once we get to the hospital."

Sam nodded getting into the car, praying the entire way.
