Hey guys! Here's chapter 11. Enjoy! Sorry it's a little short, but I wanted to update for you guys. :) 3
Chapter 11: A new drug
We've been walking for ten minutes and nothing has happened. There's no sign of life. It's unbearably quiet. I can hear the sounds of Yasu's slow, calm breathing. Suddenly, I hear a little splash. I'm pretty sure no one heard it but me and Sato. Sato holds his hand up, signaling for us to stop moving. We're in the middle of a four way. This look familiar. I hear a faint sound to the right of me. I face my gun and flashlight in that direction. I squint my human eyes. Come on. I know you're there. Come out already. Suddenly a vampire lunges toward me. I shoot him between his eyes. He turns to dust. Yasu whistles.
"Great shot Mai." He says. I look back at him and wink. He gasps dramatically and touches his chest.
"Oh Mai! You've captured my heart." He says in a girly voice. I giggle. Two more shots go off. I turn around to see two vampires turn to dust less than five feet away from me.
"Pay attention." Sato says. He's the one who fired the shots.
"Sir yes sir." Yasu says, standing up straight as if he's in the army going through basic training. Sato shakes his head disapprovingly. I smile. We're definitely giving Naru a bad reputation.
Sato looks at a weird tracking device, it has the map of the sewers.
"We have go left. It's not much further." He says. We walk left, make a right, then another left. We stop in front of a big metal door. The same one in my dream last night.
"This is it." I whisper. Doug opens the door quickly. Sato goes in first, then Kia, Yasu, and myself. It's clear there's no one here. I run to the last cell. I see Jun lying on the cold disgusting floor.
"Jun..? Jun? Jun!" I call his name a few times. He lets out a soft grunt. Relief floods through my body. He's alive.
"Kia, get it open." Sota says.
"Got it!" Kia replies. She quickly pick locks the cell. She opens the door within seconds.
"Impressive." Yasu says. Kia gives him a shy smile. I push pass Kia and help Jun up.
"My name is Mai. I work with SVR, an organization that hunts down criminal vampires. We were hired by Olivia's father to rescue you. Wait, where is Olivia?" I ask.
"They took her. They've been doing things to her.." He says.
"Things?" I ask.
"Yeah.. They've been injecting her with all sorts of medicines or drugs or something. But it's weird. Each time they bring her back to the cell, she smells less of a human and more.." Jun coughs out blood.
"This is team 3. We have one hostage. We need a medic to be ready for us when get out. Over." Sota says into his radio.
"Copy." A voice replies.
"Jun, she smells more like what?" I ask. He finally stops coughing.
"A vampire." He says.
"That's impossible. The only way a human can turn into a vampire is if they drink the blood of a Royal. And all the royals are dead." Sato says.
"Well we aren't the first to be experimented on. In the lab there's black body bags everywhere. I think they've created a drug that can transform a human into a vampire. And I think it's working." Jun says. Yasu and Doug help him up.
"Yasu, Doug, take Jun to the medic. Kia, cover them. Mai and I will grab the other hostage, we'll be right behind you." They all nod and do as they're told.
"The lab isn't far away. Let's go." Sato says. I nod in agreement. We walk forward. After a short five minutes, we reach another big metal door. I can hear voices. I look at Sato.
"In three." He whispers holding up three fingers. I count in my head. One. Two. Three. I tackle the metal door open. Inside are six vampires. Two in white doctor coats and four in regular clothes. I see Olivia strapped down on a bed, she's barely conscious and there are tube sticks in her arms. Sato shoots first. His bullet hits the heart of one of the doctors. The four vampires lunge toward him. I shoot two of them and they turn to ash. Sota shoots the other too. The remaining vampire doctor tries to run. I tackle him to the ground.
"Wait! Wait! Wait! Please don't kill me." He begs for his life. Of course I'm not stupid enough to kill him. He has valuable information. I handcuff him.
"Don't worry. I have something better in mind for you." I say. Sato picks him up.
"Check on the girl." He says. I run over to Olivia. I carefully pull out all of the tubes connected to her arm. I softly touch her face.
"Olivia..? Olivia wake up." I say.
"Huh?" She whispers. Her eyes slowly open. I gasp.
"What's wrong?" Sato asks.
One of Olivia's eyes are red. Sato looks into Olivia's eyes. His eyes widen.
"What did you do to her?!" I scream at the vampire doctor.
"I made her beautiful. What an amazing turn out. My wonderful break through. She's all the proof you need."
"Proof?" Sato asks.
"Proof that I've created a drug that can turn humans into vampires. It obviously still needs work since she's only half vampire. But it's nonetheless a success." He smiles warmly at Olivia. I walk toward the vampire doctor and punch him across the face.
"Turn her back! This isn't some wonderful breakthrough! She's a failed experiment. An artificial vampire! You can't create a vampire through medicine or drugs. You must be a royal to turned a human into one or born one. Get that through your head and turn her back into a full human!" I scream at him.
"I.. I don't know how too. This is the farthest we've gotten...usually they die before one of their eyes turn red." He says, spitting blood onto the floor. I punch him again. This time his tooth flies out.
"You're a disgrace to all vampires. You deserve to perish in hell." I say. I punch him again. And again. And again. Sota finally stops me.
"Mai. That's enough." He says. I suck my teeth and turn toward Olivia.
"Can you walk?" I ask. She nods.
"Alright, let's go back to the rest of our team." Sato says. I. Am. So. Angry. I can't begin to imagine how many people they've killed to try to create a drug that turns humans into vampires. How much will humans have to suffer because of vampires like him? Creating an artificial vampire? Is he crazy? What the hell is he thinking? Then it hits me. If this drug really does work... Then they have the power to create a bunch of artificial vampires and raise an army. A real big one. Why do I have a feeling their goal is world domination?
"Sato. I'll catch up with you later. There's something I have to do." I say.
"No. You're not going anywhere. We have to follow out the plan." He says.
"Sorry, but I have my own plans." I say. I give Olivia a gun.
"Aim for the head or heart." I tell her. She nods.
"Mai. You get back here right now. This is an order." Sato says as I walk away. I ignore his order.
"Sorry, but you're not my boss. Just go on without me. I'll catch up. Your risking the life of the hostage if you don't hurry and get her to safety." I say and go back into the lab. I look at the desktop at the corner. I take out a USB that Yasu gave me earlier. He said it has a program that will decrypt the security and copy all the data in less than two minutes, which is very impressive. I couldn't expect any unless from Yasu. I plug the USB in. Within a minute, it hacked into the data base and it's now downloading all the files. I look through one of the files. There's a bunch of pictures of humans with tubes sticking out of them. Then I freeze when I see a familiar face. There's Naru. He's half naked, strapped onto a bed with tubes sticking out of him. He's also unconscious. What the ..? The computer says the downloading is complete. I eject the USB. When I turn around, I'm facing a black shirt.
"Hello." An unfamiliar voice says. Before I can react, I'm thrown across the room. The USB slides under the lab bed. I look at the person who hit me. He's about 6'4 with the biggest muscles I've ever seen. I touch my lip. It's bleeding. I can't say I don't love a challenge. I smirk. I run toward the lab bed when he lunges toward me. I grab the USB, jump on top of the lab bed and throw myself at the vampire. My legs wrap tightly around his neck and I slam him on the ground, with me landing on top of him.
"Impossible. You're a human." He grunts. I pull out my gun and point it to his head.
"Only half." I pull the trigger and he turns to ash. He wasn't much of a challenge as I hoped. I start destroying the lab and all their research. I kick in the desktop screen, smash all the bottles of drugs/medicine expect for one. I can give one to Peter so he can examine it. I literally turn the lab upside down. I dust my hands off.
"All done." I say when I've satisfied with the mess I've made. I throw an explosion into the lab and make a run for it. BOOM. I look back and see the flames. I run back to the rest of my team. When I climb out of the manhole, Naru is waiting for me with the most annoyed look on earth. I give him a nervous smile.
"Yay? I'm alive?"
He pinches the bridge of his nose. Crap. That's a sign, meaning I'll never heard the end of it...
