Disclaimer: I'm pretty sure you all that by now I don't own SHIELD or Marvel. The sad truth is I'm pretty sure I never will :) Disney and Joss Whedon own everything... My mother says Disney owns the world... I think she's right. I mean they have theme parks, movies, Marvel, ABC, ESPN... Anyway this chapter (Chapter Eleven) is based on Episode 11. I forgot what it's called (is it TAHITI?) but it's the episode where Skye gets kicked off the bus and goes all badass spy mode pretending to be May and all :) Also this where Garret has Raina torture Coulson in order to learn the secrets surrounding his death. Sorry it's short but I hope everyone enjoys!
Chapter Eleven: Subtle Messages
"I'll do whatever you say," Skye swore. "All this protocol crap doesn't matter to me. All that matters to me is Coulson."
"Well," Agent Hand retorted. "This "protocol crap" matters to me. You're a distraction, you're gone."
"Agent Hand," Ward said, joining the conversation. "I know Skye's methods are a little," He paused, searching for the right word. "Unorthodox," he decided. "But she's a member of this team, she can help." He put his arm around his Rookie's shoulders.
Agent Hand turned away from them and focused her energy on May.
"Agent May, your professional opinion? Will this girl be any use to us on this plane?" Both Skye and Ward turned to look at May, waiting for the verdict.
"No." She turned and walked away, not making eye contact with anyone. Ward's face showed shock and betrayal. Tears had gathered at the corner of Skye's eyes, but she wiped them away angrily, refusing to cry.
"Increase her restriction level, confiscate her laptop and phone and deliver her for debriefing." Hand ordered.
"Yes ma'am!" Was the robotic reply.
"I'll do it," Ward volunteered, stepping forward. "I'm her SO, she's my responsibility." Hand nodded her approval and departed. "Come on Rookie," Grant sighed, ushering her away, his hand placed on the small of her back. "Let's get you packed."
Skye was folding the pink dress she had worn to Ian Quinn's party in Malta while Ward sifted through her drawers occasionally pulling something out. Skye sighed in frustration, throwing a hanger against the wall and plopping down onto her bed, staring at the ceiling. "It's clear May has something against me but that was totally uncalled for..." Ward walked over, placing some of her shirts in the duffel bag beside her. The bed dipped ever so slightly as he sat down.
"No one knows what's in May's head, except May," he replied, looking down at her. She turned on her side, facing him and propped herself up on her elbow. She looked around the room.
This is my home..." Her voice broke. "We're like family. With Mama May and Papa Coulson, Fitz and Simmons, the fraternal twins, you as the protective, older brother and me... The lost puppy." He laughed.
"Skye, you are nothing like a lost puppy. You can be the youngest daughter, the fairest of them all." It was Skye's turn to laugh. "I'll be the badass spy who lives next door, sworn to protect you."
"No!" She cried. "You have to be part of the family too!"
"I guess I'll just have to marry into the Coulson family then huh?" He smile when she laughed again. He loved the sound of her laugh... It disappeared all to quickly.
"Seriously though," Skye began, biting her bottom lip.
"Don't worry," he interrupted her. "Coulson will make this right when he gets back," he spoke confidently.
"I can find him, Ward," she said, her voice laced with determination.
"I know you can. I believe you. I've seen first hand what you can do, even without SHIELD resources." Grant said, his eyes boring into hers. He cupped her face in his hands and brought their foreheads together. "We will be okay," he promised. "You will find Coulson. He'll be fine. He'll fix everything." Skye let out a shaky breath.
"I hope you're right," she whispered. Grant ran his thumb over Skye's bottom lip. He smiled.
"I'm always right..." They both looked to the door as someone knocked.
FitzSimmons stood in the doorway, a small, knowing smile spread across Simmons face. Fitz stood next to her, looking back and forth between Skye and Ward. "We can come back later," Simmons suggested, slyly.
"No that's okay I was just helping Skye pack," Ward said, easing himself off the bed and offering his hand to Skye.
"Right," Fitz mumbled. "You two were defiantly "packing."" He winced when Simmons jabbed him in the ribs.
"What was that Fitz?" Skye questioned. "I didn't quite catch that."
"We have something for you," Jemma whispered, hastily and effectively changing the subject. She thrust a brown paper bag into Skye's hands.
"You made me a sandwich?" She asked, slightly suspicious.
"Yes..." Simmons replied, her voice trailing off. "It is that..."
"It's a satellite former, damper resistant..." Fitz explained in a whisper. "You only get one shot before your bracelet shuts it down."
"So only call in case of an emergency..." Simmons added in a hushed voice.
"What do I even need this for? Skye asked, completely lost. "I'm going to be locked in a SHIELD broom closet getting debriefed..."
"That's right," Ward told her, raising his voice. "SHIELD agents are coming to pick you up for debriefing."
Skye looked at Ward. "Yes, Ward I just said that-" Ward leaned close to her and whispered, "In exactly 12 minuets." Comprehension dawned on her. "Good luck," he whispered, placing a light kiss on her cheek. "Maybe when everything's back to normal I'll buy you a drink... She stated at him, he looked back at her, a small smile on his innocent face. Simmons clasped Skye's hand in her hand and gave her a smile. Fitz gave her a nod of encouragement, before departing. Her eyes met her SO's. He nodded once and winked before exiting her room. She shook her head, breaking her daze and picked up her duffle bag before casting one more look around the room and leaving. She had work to do. She had to find Coulson.
A/N: WOW are you guys impressed?! I have posted THREE chapters in THREE days... I'm pretty proud of myself :) Thank you all so much for all yourvsupport... The number of emails I have been getting is astounding and amazing, I love you guys, you're awesome! Keep up the good work! Can we try to get 3 reviews on this chapter and get up to 40? My goal is to get 100 reviews on this story when I post the final chapter. IF you guys can get me to a hundred reviews, there is another season of AoS, you guys are intrested and SkyeWard isn't totally destroyed by Ward's idiotic (although I'm still in love with him and still defend him) decisions. Let me know if you guys would be interested in a sequel. Also, I think I am going to have Ward become bad but not until Chapter 17. I plan on making it more fluffy and angsty fit SkyeWard if that's fine with you. Please R&R!
~Kathrine
Remember: Reviews help me update faster!
PS~ Don't you all love how Skye is so lost in this chapter? She's clearly not very good at reading subtle messages. I mean Ward is totally flirting with her!
