Ch. 11

"I worry for you sometimes, ya know?"

"Why?" He asked, pulling her body closer to his.

"Well, I have faith in you, but the world is crazy, Yash. If anything ever happened to you…"

"No." He cut her off. "Nothing's going to happen to me. I'm worried about you."

She cocked an eyebrow, hardly understanding what this had to do with her.

"Why me?" She whispered in his ear while she straddled his lap.

"I don't just fight because I'm good at it." He began, meeting her brown eyes with his gold ones. "Or because it's expected of me or shit like that. But I wanna live in a world where you don't have to worry about conflict between humans and demons. It's an opportunity to create a better world for people to live in, people like you. Because I don't want anything happening to you." He shrugged his shoulders and huffed, looking away.

Kagome giggled and leaned down to kiss him, taking her time. They were supposed to be studying.

"That's very deep, and sweet of you." She cooed, laughing out loud at Inuyasha's furrowed expression.

"Keh, whatever. I was just answering your question."

Kagome continued to giggle at his expression. Occasionally he'd say sweet stuff that could make her heart soar, but then he'd try to cover it up with his hard personality to make up for the fact that he said something mushy. It was an endearing quality.

"Well, I guess we'll just worry about each other." She concluded, sliding off his lap to get back to her textbook.

There was no response, but a nice kiss was planted to the back of her neck, making her close her eyes and sigh deeply.

That was all the answer she needed.

Inuyasha felt a myriad of things.

Every emotion there was, he felt as if he was going through them, and slowly.

He wished the apprehensive feeling would pass, but Kagome was out here, damnit! He had every right to be worried.

He was angry, and that didn't need an explanation.

He felt an eerie sense of calm at the approaching fight. Sesshomaru explained the plan to him clearly, not having to repeat himself. And although Inuyasha may have had some questions, he only nodded his head in response and took off towards the apex of the mountain.

He was also confused, because the sword on his hip, the one he always promised to carry, was calling to him in a sense. It was a dull hum in his ear, a faint vibration in his mind, and somehow he was able to distinguish it as the sword and nothing else.

So without further ado, he ran forward.

Inuyasha halted when he reached a clearing, suppressing his aggression to keep his wits about him. But fuck if he wasn't mad.

"You finally showed up." A voice called from the darkness.

Inuyasha didn't respond; his eyes were glued to the one person that meant everything to him.

Kagome's hands were tied behind her back, and fear and apprehension was all in her scent. It set his mind into hyper drive. He was more than ready to confront his enemy.

Kagura appeared, smirk on her pale face. She stood on the other side of the patio Kagome was laying on, eyeing Inuyasha down.

"We meet again." She added.

"It'll be a short meeting." Inuyasha growled.

They both lunged forward.

888

Kagome screamed, or made a sound as close as she could to a scream. She couldn't move her head around fast enough to keep up with Kagura and Inuyasha's movements. There were blasts of wind, and growls from Inuyasha. Punches were being thrown, and both were evenly matched.

For now.

Kagome heard a pain noise coming from someone, and knew it was Inuyasha. Kagura had sent a blast strong enough to send him rearing back to a tree.

This was unlike anything Kagome had ever seen. Somehow she could feel the power the two radiated. Both of their auras felt irritated, and robust. She flinched at all of their movements, silently screaming for Inuyasha to be careful.

Inuyasha could hear the distressed cries from Kagome, and it upset him further. She shouldn't be here, she shouldn't have to put up with this all because of him. All he wanted was to keep her out of harms' way; that's what he spent the last three years away for. And here she was, literally in the middle of it all.

Sesshomaru and the others needed to hurry the fuck up. He couldn't keep holding back on Kagura, and Kagome was bound to get hurt.

The sword on his left was pulsing strongly, and he didn't know the cause of it. He continued to punch and kick, dodging strong walls of wind being flung in his way, rearing his hand back to slash out.

Kagura yelped in pain when a hot pain shot across her chest. The marks were shallow, but there. Her temporary setback gave Inuyasha the upper hand, and he asked the kamis for forgiveness inwardly as he gave one nice punch to Kagura's face.

Kagura grunted in pain and growled as the force of the hit caught up with her, and she was flung a distance away. Her vision was blurring momentarily.

Inuyasha took this opportunity to tend to Kagome, who was, for lack of a better phrase, freaking out. Tears were flowing out of her eyes, and her voice was rough as she spoke.

"Inuyasha." She sobbed.

Inuyasha felt his heart ache at her fear. She shouldn't be going through this!

His claws slashed easily at the ties that bound her wrists and she immediately brought them in front of her to rub; they were sore.

"Inuyasha, what do we do?" She whined.

Before Inuyasha could think of a response, there was a harsh shriek from behind them, and both veered around to look.

Kagura had been shot, dead center, in her leg, with an arrow. Inuyasha whipped his head back around to find the source, and saw Kikyo, arm still positioned in shooting position, eyes trained on Kagura.

Kagura was yelling, something about energy and holy power. Inuyasha couldn't really think; everything was happening too fast. He hauled Kagome's body over his shoulders and ran past Kikyo, not saying a word.

This was a part of the plan, after all.

"Inuyasha!" Kagome yelled, hurting his ears. "Where are we going?"

"I'm getting you out of here." He yelled back, and slowed down when he felt his brother and several others approaching.

"Kagome!"

Inuyasha saw, with much relief, Kouga trotting towards him. His injury had already started to heal, but it wasn't complete yet.

"Kouga?" Kagome yelled in question when she heard his voice. Kouga stopped directly in front of them and Inuyasha passed her to him.

"Get her to the bottom of the mountain." Inuyasha instructed, tensing at the worried look Kagome was giving him.

"Wait, Inuyasha.." Kagome said, fear evident. Kouga hauled her lithe body over his shoulder, wincing at the extra weight that was placed on him.

"Kouga's going to take you to the bottom and drive you far away from here." Inuyasha answered, and then turned to face his brother. "Where are the others?"

"Finishing the hoard." He answered impassively. "The numbers of akuma have decreased, and that probably only means one thing."

Inuyasha nodded slowly, and thought for just a moment. The space they were standing in was sloped, and Kouga and Kagome were the farthest away.

What he was thinking…it was risky. It was dangerous, but he was dead set on his feelings.

"I don't need reinforcements." He said quickly.

Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow, and the others behind him stared in question. Kouga was one second away from protesting before Inuyasha spoke again.

"This is between me and Naraku." He said lowly. "And I don't want anyone else getting hurt up there."

"Yash, don't be stupid!" Kouga battled.

"I agree." Sesshomaru added, looking at Inuyasha with amusement in his eyes.

"Agree with whom, sir?" A younger agent behind him questioned hesitantly.

"With both." He answered. "Inuyasha is right; this is his fight. Yet, the idea of him facing Naraku alone is…stupid."

Kouga pursed his lips and planned to remember this night. The night the Sesshomaru Taisho agreed with him on something, even if it was halfway.

"This is my fight!" Inuyasha snapped.

"And if you fail?" Sesshomaru asked.

"Then I die!" He yelled, gesturing wildly to himself out of irritation. "I die. Me. No one else. There's no way I'm going without dragging that bastard with me."

"Inuyasha…" Kouga started again, but Kagome kindly, or not so kindly, interrupted.

She smacked Kouga's back as hard as she could to get his attention, which she had been trying to do for the past minute.

"Put me down for a sec!" She yelled. "I want to say something."

Kouga mumbled something under his breath and damn women and their behavior before gently moving Kagome off his shoulder. Her body was still weak, so he held on to her arm while she tried to steady herself.

"Okay." She huffed once she found her balance. "I'm going to say this, then I'm going to leave."

Everyone except Sesshomaru nodded.

"I think he should do it."

The other agents gaped, and Kouga groaned. "Kagome, what the fu-

"Listen for two seconds!" She snapped. That got their attention back.

She walked slowly towards Inuyasha, eyes locked on his the entire time. Inuyasha watched her come to him, dress torn and muddy, shoes ruined, hair a mess, skin pale, eyes rimmed red, and breathing unsteady.

She was still the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen.

"Kouga's right." She said quietly, hands planted firmly at her sides. "It is stupid."

Inuyasha's face went blank.

"It's stupid to think that you have to do this alone."

"Kagome." Inuyasha said quietly.

"But I understand." She said, sad smile on her face. "It was always meant to be like this. You and Naraku."

Everyone watched as Kagome lifted her arms and wrapped them around Inuyasha's torso, burying her head in his chest. It was a moment that they didn't feel like they should be witnessing.

"I understand." She whispered. "You don't want anyone else getting hurt. It's honorable, really."

Inuyasha felt the punch line coming, and responded. "But?"

"But…the selfish part of me, the part of me that loves you, the part of me that's scared that you won't come back, which is all of me, doesn't want you to."

Inuyasha's face softened, and he heard Kagome start to sniffle.

If Naraku wouldn't be the end of him, this woman would.

"I promised you." He said quietly. "I promised you I'd come back."

Kagome sniffled again, not really having anymore words to say. Her arms unconsciously tightened around Inuyasha's chest, and they stayed that way for just a few more moments before they were necessarily interrupted.

"It is time to go." Sesshomaru said.

Kagome pulled away, and a small smile graced her face. "Go get him."

Inuyasha smiled back. "Yes ma'am."

Kagome walked back to Kouga and let him haul her body on his shoulder again. She waved towards Inuyasha and the others, then Kouga took off as fast as he could down the mountain.

Sesshomaru had already started moving up the mountain, and the others soon followed.

"When the fuck were you gonna tell me about Kikyo?" Inuyasha yelled above the wind.

They were traveling at a faster speed now, anxious to make it to the top and get everything over with.

"It was her business to tell you." Sesshomaru responded calmly. What a very 'Sessh-like' answer.

Inuyasha would find another time to complain about how things shouldn't be kept from him, especially when someone close to him (and he used that word loosely) had holy powers.

That was unheard of. The possession of such powers had supposedly died off centuries ago, and here Kikyo was, shooting arrows with purple sparkles!

"How the hell is that even possible?" Inuyasha yelled out loud, not registering that he had indeed spoken out.

There was no response, probably because Sesshomaru wasn't going to discuss that at a time like this.

Inuyasha craned his neck to the side while still running uphill. Sesshomaru's gaze was focused ahead, not looking to the side, or behind. There was no expression on his face that gave anything away, and the younger wondered if he was worried.

Truthfully, he was a little worried himself. He hadn't seen anything like this either. All of a sudden, he spat out important information.

"My sword this thrumming." He said. "It's like a pulse. It's been happening since I found out Kagome was here."

That caught the older's attention. His head stayed forward while his eyes looked over to Inuyasha, who was watching him expectantly.

"Use it." He answered coolly, turning his gaze forward again.

"What?" Inuyasha yelled. "I've never used it before! How am I supposed to…"

"If it is calling to you," Sesshomaru interrupted, "use it."

Inuyasha wanted to question more. He had the feeling that Sesshomaru knew more than he was letting on.

Sesshomaru could feel his idiot brother's eyes boring holes into the side of his head, and he spoke again.

"Father gave you that sword for a reason. Use it."

And that was the last thing that was said before they reached the top.

888

Kikyo looked on unsympathetically at the writhing woman on the ground. One arrow full of holy power wasn't enough to keep Kagura down. So, Kikyo had to take a more hands on approach.

Kagura's hands were handcuffed behind her back, and she was cursing under her breath while unnecessarily moving on the dirt ground. She had never seen or heard of anything like this in her life.

"What are you?" She ground out.

Kikyo flicked her gaze to Kagura. Her dark eyes were set on Kikyo's face like she was looking for something in particular.

"What do you think?" She responded, then looked towards the trees once again. Sesshomaru and Inuyasha should be here any moment.

Kagura coughed. "You can't be a priestess." She said with hesitation. "People with holy powers died off long ago."

Kikyo smirked quickly before setting her stony expression on again. "Did they really?"

Kagura grit her teeth.

Just then, two powerful auras came to a halt in the clearing, while lesser auras showed up behind them a few seconds later.

Sesshomaru's eyes traveled down Kikyo's figure, observing for any injuries, and then flicked to the demoness on the ground.

"What do we do with her, sir?" An agent asked behind him.

"Take her in for questioning." He answered quickly. "Kikyo, go with them."

"The void girl is still out there somewhere." She protested calmly.

Inuyasha's face scrunched. "Void girl?"

"Kanna" Kikyo answered him, eyes still on Sesshomaru.

"Do you think you can handle her?" Sesshomaru asked, eyebrow cocked.

"Yes." She answered confidently.

"But doesn't she have that mirror?" Inuyasha asked, mind going back to that awful mission in Osaka.

"I'll be fine." Kikyo answered. She started readjusting her last few arrows on her back, and Sesshomaru turned to give more orders.

"Tell Juromaru that she's being taken in for questioning. All of you, go."

"Yes sir." Was the chorus answer.

Kagura whimpered as she was hauled off uncaringly. That left Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, and Kikyo in the clearing.

"Okay, so what are you going to do?" Inuyasha asked Sesshomaru.

"I will help Kikyo find Kanna. She can't have gone too far." He answered.

"So where the hell is Naraku?" He asked.

"I'm sure once you are alone, he will come to you." Sesshomaru answered, unfazed.

The younger's eyes widened momentarily. "So, I just wait here." He gestured to the clearing around them.

Sesshomaru nodded, and before he turned off to head back into the trees with Kikyo, he spoke. "Inuyasha, remember what I said about the sword."

And they were gone.

888

Inuyasha waited for what felt like hours, but it was only actually ten minutes or so.

He felt around him, searching for any auras that could belong to Naraku. He had no idea what the bastard looked like, but he would probably introduce himself.

Something that Kagome said was haunting his mind. When he finally reconnected with her, she said something about how hurt and troubled one had to be to take things this far. How maddened jealousy was he?

That had been sitting in the back of Inuyasha's mind all week. It's not like he would show any sympathy for the creature, no. Naraku was responsible for his mother's death, and he tried to kill him. Plus, the man had plans and ideals that needed to be struck down immediately. The world just can't let akuma run around as they please.

Still, there was a special kind of crazy that needed to be fulfilled to drag things to this level.

Inuyasha had been slowly pacing, not out of panic, but in thought. His boots were making a constant thump sound as he walked around the wooden area.

Then he felt it.

He stilled instantly, noting the power surrounding him and identifying it. It was foul, dark, and wicked in every sense of the word. Inuyasha could practically feel hysteria closing in on the clearing. The sky was starting to darken, and his sword was thrumming incessantly at his side.

A menacing, dry laugh was heard before a face was seen, and Inuyasha took a deep breath and prepared himself to face the bane of his existence.

"Well, if it isn't Inuyasha."

The voice was low, raspy, and grating to his ears. Inuyasha stood in the center of the clearing, and watched as a figure stalked slowly out of the trees in front of him. He wasn't sure exactly what he had been expecting, but it wasn't this.

It was Naraku for sure, but he didn't look like someone that was trying to burn the world down.

He was lean, dark hair wavy and wild, and eyes as black as coal. His pale skin contrasted greatly with the purple robe he had on.

"Our meeting is long overdue." Naraku said, eyes narrowing. "Although, I never actually wanted to meet you. My only goal was killing you."

Inuyasha didn't say anything. He really had nothing to say. He was tired of petty words and threats. It was time to fight.

The sword that had nagged him for the last time was drawn, a welcoming sound of metal against sheath echoing in the clearing, and what both men saw would never be forgotten as long as they lived.

The sword was small, or so Inuyasha assumed, from the looks of its sheath. Yet, the weapon in his hand was the exact opposite.

It was beautiful. A curved sword, shiny and long with an end at a fine point. It was in his hands as light as a feather, which was totally unexpected. Inuyasha could feel something starting in him, some sort of pull to the blade in his hands, and he tightened his grip around the hilt, getting into the proper stance for fighting.

Then he finally spoke.

"I don't know what the hell your problem is, but I guarantee this ends tonight."

Naraku cackled. "Ha! You aren't the only one with a few tricks, boy."

Inuyasha snarled at the disrespect, and was crouched to strike until the figure in front of him morphed into something sinister.

He watched, and almost gagged, as Naraku's arms, stretched out past the sleeves of his robe and changed colors. The pale skin changed to an inky black, and separated into several thinner limbs.

Tentacles.

Inuyasha was disgusted.

"You and your brother have grown too comfortable in this world fit for humans!" Naraku yelled. "You have no connection to your true power, no knowledge of your ancestors."

Inuyasha wanted to yell something back about how he didn't give a damn about his ancestors and what they did, but he was too busy dodging a tentacle being struck at him.

He jumped back quickly, trying to create enough distance to give himself time to think. Naraku smirked coyly as his new limbs moved forward again, each tentacle coming at him from different directions.

Inuyasha tensed and called on all the years of training he had in weaponry, and swung the sword in a wide arc.

There was a small blast as the blade cut the air and limbs, and it reverberated through Inuyasha's body like bass.

The tentacles were cut short, little pieces scattered this way and that. Yet, Naraku was laughing wildly.

"Oh, the look on your face, Inuyasha!" He yelled. "Izayoi used to wear the same look when she was scared."

'That bastard. That fucking bastard.' His mind chanted. He unconsciously growled.

The scattered pieces were coming back together, fixing themselves back to the slimy things they were.

Inuyasha repositioned himself. This was going to be a battle.

It seemed like there were more and more limbs, but Inuyasha countered every one. This sword was proving to be a huge advantage as he got used to it.

He ran forward, attempting to close the distance between him Naraku. He was met with more infernal limbs, and he kept swinging. It seemed like their numbers were increasing, and it wasn't just because they could regenerate.

While Inuyasha tried to close more distance and push through the tentacles in front of him, he didn't notice the lone one that had curved around him.

Inuyasha didn't yell as he was hit, but the pain was hot and sharp. One of the limbs had stabbed through his left shoulder blade, and his arm completely faltered.

In the midst of his pain, another limb tightened around his right ankle, constricting until bones could be heard cracking, and this time, Inuyasha cried out.

His right hand shot to his left shoulder, dropping his blade. The sword hit the ground and turned back to a thin, rusty thing unfit for battle. Then another limb was around his neck.

He used both hands to pull at it, but it was squeezing tight. Inuyasha could feel the air leaving him, the slow flow of blood to his brain. His vision was blackening around the edges like a burning photo.

"You shouldn't have even been born." Naraku said coolly. "You weren't supposed to exist. Izayoi wasn't supposed to be with anyone else."

Inuyasha continued to writhe, face paling. He couldn't die here, he couldn't. He just got back; Naraku was at his fingertips, finally. He had finally gotten Kagome back. He promised Kagome. He promised he'd come back.

'Kagome, I'm sorry.' Was his final fleeting thought as his body started to go limp. He closed his eyes, and let hers be the last thing he would imagine before he gave out.

Then there was a sudden blast of wind and power, and all the limbs leeching on Inuyasha were destroyed. There was a painful cry that came from Naraku, and Inuyasha gasped desperately as his lungs filled with air.

His body hunched forward as he coughed. He didn't have to look up; he'd recognized who that aura belonged to any day.

"Is this the scum that has been causing us so much trouble, Inuyasha?" Sesshomaru asked, stepping to his side, but not offering a hand.

Naraku's arms had been blown off, and when Inuyasha looked to his side, he saw that Sesshomaru had a sword drawn as well.

"Get up." He said quickly. "Finish him."

Inuyasha nodded, and moved to stand. His body protested royally, but he ignored the strain. His shoulder was still bleeding nicely, and his ankle was probably broken. He stood crookedly, but he was standing. He breathed raggedly, but he was breathing.

"Pick up your sword." Sesshomaru said, nodding towards the limbs morphing back together.

When Inuyasha picked up the sword, it changed back to its glorious state, and he smiled smugly at Sesshomaru's utterly surprised expression.

"What?" Inuyasha mocked. "Mad that my sword's bigger?"

"Hn." Sesshomaru responded quickly. "Pay attention."

As soon as Inuyasha turned around, his right arm flung the sword up to slice away at incoming limbs.

With Sesshomaru there, it was easier to press forward. With the two of them fighting, they could destroy more limbs in faster time, giving Inuyasha more time to move forward.

Sesshomaru sent another blast of power from an impressive arc of his sword, and Inuyasha ran forward, only a few seconds away from Naraku.

"No!" The hanyou yelled. He tried to block, but Inuyasha whipped his sword forward too quick, and he was flung backwards into a tree.

His torso was bleeding what looked like black sludge, and he coughed up more of it as he spoke.

"You filthy bastard!" He yelled. "I'm glad your mother's dead. She was enough of a whore to lay down with that dog-

And before anymore words were said, Naraku stilled. Silence filled the clearing, and it was cut when Inuyasha spoke.

"I've had . ."

He yanked his left hand backwards, the pain in his shoulder screaming as he did so. He looked down at the weakly pulsing heart in his hand…

And crushed it.

He tightened his fist around it, not slightly disturbed at the sick feeling of muscle squishing in his palm. Black blood trickled down his fingers and hit the ground in little patters. He was panting, and it was loud in his ears. He couldn't hear anything else but himself, and he couldn't feel anything else but the pain in his own body, secondary to the dying pulse of Naraku's heart.

Six months later…

Kagome continued to pace. She was worrying her bottom lip, and she spoke up.

"What is taking them so long?" She asked, tone a little bit more snappy than usual. They were on the clock, and the divas needed to hurry up and get here.

"Ms. Kikyo said ten minutes." Yura answered, the papers in her hand shuffling.

"That was twenty minutes ago!" Kagome said, placing a hand to her head and closing her eyes. She only jumped a little when she felt a strong pair of arms around her person.

"You miss me that much?" Inuyasha said quietly in her ear. Kagome's frown immediately turned to a smile, and Inuyasha let go so she could turn around.

"What the hell took you so long?" She asked, voice kinder this time around.

"Sesshomaru couldn't figure out what to wear." He answered, laughing when he heard a protesting noise a few feet away from the indicated brother.

Kagome smiled. "Come on. We're on in five."

She sat in a lush seat across from a black sofa. There were attendants making sure everything on set was perfectly angled. Hojo was angling all the cameras properly. The lighting was being adjusted, and Yura swung by and powdered Kagome's nose quickly, and handed her a small glass of water.

"I look okay?" Kagome asked, voice shaky, taking a sip.

Yura smiled brightly. "You look great as always. Now, don't be nervous."

Kagome nodded, and Yura walked away.

A few seconds later, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru were both approaching the set, finely pressed in their attire, and Kagome had to refrain from saying anything inappropriate as she watched Inuyasha smirk at her.

She fidgeted in her seat, crossing her legs at the ankle. She had been doing this for several months now, but not a story like this. Not a story that she was involved in.

"Nervous?" Inuyasha asked as he sat down on the sofa across from her. Sesshomaru straightened his suit coat and sat down as well.

"No." She answered quickly. "Okay, yes."

Inuyasha laughed, and to Kagome's surprise, Sesshomaru smirked.

"If anyone should be nervous," He said, crossing one leg over a knee, "it should be us."

Inuyasha scoffed.

It had been six months. Six months since Naraku and 'the battle at the Doryodo Ruins' as the agents liked to call it. There was little they could do to stop the media from swarming around the main building, asking one million questions concerning the battle, and how Inuyasha was even alive. Sesshomaru requested that no information be given until he said so, and now he was finally saying so.

They were at the Tokyo's Own building getting ready to make their debut on the evening news. Kagome had a list of questions that had been frequently asked by the media, and while she may not ask all of them, the important ones would be answered. The main one was Inuyasha's living status.

"Are you two ready?" She asked quietly. "Ready to tell the world what really happened?"

Both looked at each other, then nodded. Sesshomaru turned his head towards the cameras and looked past them, smiling softly at Kikyo with a cup of coffee in her hands.

"Alright. Everyone in their places!" Hojo instructed. Yura gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before she took a step back, making him blush. He cleared his throat.

"Alright. And we're on in five…four…three...two…"

"Good evening, Tokyo." Kagome smiled. "I am your host, Kagome Higurashi, and we have two very important guests here today. Ladies and gentleman, Sesshomaru Taisho, head of Taisho Corporations, and Inuyasha Taisho."

Both smiled, in their own way, at the camera.

"So, as well all know, Taisho Corporations was involved in a huge offensive six months ago to this date." She began. "There are so many questions that have been submitted to our journalists staff about this offensive, and the majority of the questions being about you," she gestured, "Mr. Inuyasha Taisho."

Inuyasha smirked. "Hey Tokyo." He said while throwing up a peace sign.

Sesshomaru had to fight the urge to roll his eyes.

"Three years ago, we were informed that the world had lost you, Inuyasha." Kagome said, tone more serious. "In a mission opposing assailants of Naraku, you were seriously injured, am I correct?"

He nodded.

"Tell us, Mr. Taisho," She said, leaning forward in her seat a bit, "how did you survive?"

Inuyasha wasn't expecting that question right off the bat, and his brain was running too fast for it to come up with a proper response. Then it hit him. The light bulb went off in his head, and he smiled.

"Well, Miss Higurashi." He started, looking her right into her eyes. "I suppose it all started three years ago, after my injury, when I decided that no matter what, I'd find a way."

Author's Note: I couldn't resist. I needed to do the thing. The THING where the title is looped back into the story. I'll do it every time. I'm sorry if this chapter went by a little too fast. I always planned on the fightd scene ending with Naraku's heart in Inuyasha's hands for symbolic purposes of course. The main thing I wanted to emphasize with that was how Naraku truly underestimated Inuyasha and even Sesshomaru, just because both of them weren't expecting actual demons. But poor poor Naraku. It ended with his life literally in Inuyasha's hand, and it was taken away.

This story was not supposed to take this long either, haha. But if you commented, followed, or favorited, I just want to let you know that you are awesome, and each of you managed to put a smile on my face.

This was my first attempt at some serious fight scenes, and I honestly feel like I've got a long ways to go in that category, but practice makes better.

There will be one more chapter! It will be like an epilogue. More things concerning the personal lives of the characters will be addressed, and maybe smut. Maybe. (winks).

If you have any stories you want me to read, whether you've written them or not, just message me and let me know.

Thank you all, and all, thank you.

(Nixon salute)
