Chapter 11
The Doctor Dances
The gas-mask people are surrounding Rose, Ben The Doctor and Jack. Then The Doctor stares sternly around at them and said as though addressing a disobedient child "Go to your room."
The gasmask people hesitated.
The Doctor continues "Go to your room!"
The gas-mask people cocked their heads to one side.
Rose, Ben, and Jack look at one another.
Then The Doctor continued and said "I mean it! I am very, very angry with you. I am very, VERY cross! Go - to - your - ROOM!"
He points violently in no particular direction, and all the gas-mask people turn meekly away.
The patients and staff in the hospital climb back onto their beds.
The Doctor sighs with relief and spoke again "I'm really glad that worked. Those would've been TERRIBLE last words."
Rose is sitting by one of the beds, looking at one of the gasmask people. Jack settles down in a chair. Ben is standing next to Rose. Rose then "Why are they all wearing gas masks?"
Ben replied "they're not."
Jack then said "Those masks are flesh and bone."
The Doctor then asked "How was your con supposed to work?"
Jack then said "Simple enough, really. Find some harmless piece of space-junk... let the nearest Time Agent track it back to Earth. Convince him it's valuable, name a price. When he's put 50% up front - oops! A German bomb falls on it, destroys it forever. He never gets to see what he's paid for. Never knows he's been had. I buy him a drink with his own money, and we discuss dumb luck. The perfect self-cleaning con."
The Doctor then said "Yeah. Perfect."
Jack then said "The London Blitz is great for self-cleaners - Pompeii's nice if you want to make a vacation of it though, but you've got to set your alarm for volcano day."He laughed at his own joke. The Doctor merely looks at him. Jack's laughter died away. "Getting a hint of disapproval."
The Doctor said "Take a look around the room. This is what your 'harmless piece of space-junk' did."
Jack then said "It was a burnt-out medical transporter - it was empty."
The Doctor looked darkly at him and walked off and said "Rose, Theron."
Rose then asked "We getting out of here?"
The Doctor then said "We're going upstairs."
Rose and Ben followed him. Jack gets up and called after him "I even programmed the flight computer so it wouldn't land on anything living - I harmed no-one! I don't know what's happening here, but believe me - I had nothing to do with it."
The Doctor then said "I'll tell you what's happening. You forgot to set your alarm clock. It's volcano day."
A siren goes off in the distance.
Rose then asked "What's that?"
Jack then said "The all-clear. "
Ben then said "I don't think so"
The Doctor replied "I wish."
He leaves the ward. Rose, Ben and Jack follow him.
DWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDW
Rose, Ben and Jack run down a corridor looking for the Doctor. Jack calls "Mr Spock?"
Rose calls "Doctor? "
They dash past a flight of stairs. The Doctor pops his head around the banister.
The Doctor then said "Have you got a blaster?"
Rose, Ben and Jack skid to a halt and backtrack.
Jack then said "Sure!"
They run up the stairs and find themselves standing outside a door. The Doctor then said "The night your space-junk landed, someone was hurt. This was where they were taken."
Rose then asked "What happened?"
The Doctor then said "Let's find out." He said to Jack "Get it open."
Jack grins and points a blaster at the door. The Doctor stands back, beside Rose and Ben.
Rose then said quitly "What's wrong with your sonic screwdriver?"
The Doctor then said "Nothing. "
Ben then mutters "it doesn't do wood." The Doctor heard him and looks over at Ben. Jack's blaster cuts a perfectly square hole around the lock of the door and it squeaks open.
The Doctor then said "Sonic blaster, 51st century. Weapon Factories of Villengard?"
Jack then said " You've been to the factories?"
The Doctor then said taking the blaster from Jack for a look "Once."
Jack then replied "Well, they gone now. Destroyed. The main reactor went critical. Vapourized the lot. "
The Doctor said while giving the blaster back "Like I said - once. There's a banana grove there, now. I like bananas. Bananas are good."
He smiles pleasantly at Jack and enters the room. Rose goes up to Jack. Rose then looks at the perfectly square hole and said "Nice blast pattern."
Jack then said "Digital."
Rose then said "Squareness gun."
Jack then said "Yeah."
Rose then replied "I like it."
While they were talking Ben went into the room
She goes into the room. Jack laughs, then follows her.

The Doctor switches a light on. The room looks as though it has been vandalised. The window is broken and there is stuff all over the floor. The Doctor then said "What d'you think?"
Jack then replied "SOMETHING got out of here..."
The Doctor then said "Yeah. And?"
Then Jack responded with "Something powerful. Angry."
The Doctor then said "Powerful and angry."
Jack enters a room off the side. The floors and walls are covered with a child's drawings. There are a few toys on the floor and a little bed in the corner.
Jack then said "A child? I suppose this explains 'mummy'."
Rose then said "How could a child do this?"
The Doctor plays a tape of Doctor Constantine talking to The Child.
Rose then said "Doctor, I've heard this voice before."
The Doctor then said "Me too."
THE CHILD said "Mummy?"
Rose then said "Always, "are you my mummy?". Like he doesn't know."
THE CHILD said "Mummy?"
Rose then asked "Why doesn't he know?"
THE CHILD said "Are you there, mummy? Mummy?"

The reels of the tape spin.
THE CHILD said "Mummy? Please, mummy? Mummy?"
The Doctor is pacing around the room.
Rose then said "Doctor?"
The Doctor then said "Can you sense it?"
Jack asked "Sense what?"
Ben then said "guys the tape ended and we can still hear the kid this is his room."
He spins around and The Child is standing by the tape machine.
THE CHILD said "Are you my mummy?" Cocks his head on one side, considering Rose "Mummy?"
Rose then said "Doctor?"
Jack then said "Okay... on my signal... make for the door. NOW!"
He violently produces a banana and points it threateningly at The Child. The Doctor grins and produces Jack's sonic blaster, blasting a square hole in the wall.
The Doctor then said "Go! Now! Don't drop the banana!"
Jack then said hopping through the hole in the wall with Rose, Ben and the Doctor "Why not?!"
The Doctor then replied "Good source of potassium!"

The Doctor then said "Okay, that door should hold it for a bit."
Jack then said "The door?! The WALL didn't stop it!"
The Doctor then said "Well, it's gotta FIND us first! Come on, we're not done yet! Assets, assets!"
Jack then said "Well, I've got a banana, and at a pinch you could put up some shelves. " The Doctor said going to the window "Window—"
Jack interrupted "Barred, sheer drop outside. Seven stories."
Rose then said "And no other exits."
Jack said settling comfortably into a chair "Well, the assets conversation went in a flash, didn't it?"
The Doctor turns and eyes him for a moment, then looks at Rose and asked "So, where'd you pick this one up, then?"
Rose then said warningly "Doctor... "
Jack then replied "She was hanging from a barrage balloon, I had an invisible spaceship. I never stood a CHANCE." Rose looks ever so slightly uncomfortable.
The Doctor then said "Okay, one, we want to get out of here. Two, we CAN'T get out of here. Have I missed anything?."
Rose looks in Jack's direction and said "Yeah... Jack just disappeared."
The Doctor spins around to see Jack's empty chair.
DWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDW
Rose and Ben approached the Doctor who is now sitting down and puts her hand casually on the back of his chair. Then Rose said "Okay, so he's vanished into thin air. Why is it always the GREAT looking ones who do that?"
The Doctor peers up at her, giving her a look and said "I'm making an effort not to be insulted."
Rose then said "I mean... men."
The Doctor then said "Okay. Thanks. That REALLY helped."
An old radio springs to life and Jack's voice transmits through it. "Rose? Doctor? Theron? Can you hear me?
The three of them hurry over to the radio, the Doctor picking it up. "I'm back on my ship."Used the emergency teleport. Sorry I couldn't take you."
The Doctor, in some confusion, holds the wires that have been ripped out of the radio. Jack then continued "It's security-keyed to my molecular structure. I'm working on it - hang in there."
The Doctor then asked ".How're you speaking to us?"
Jack then replied "Om-Com. I can call anything with a speaker grille."
The Doctor then said "Now there's a coincidence."
Jack then said "What is?"
The Doctor then said "The Child can Om-Com too. "
Rose then said "It can?"
The Doctor nods "Anything with a speaker grille. Even the TARDIS phone."
Rose then said "What, you mean The Child can phone us?"
THE CHILD through radio, singsong voice "And I can hear you. Coming to find you. Coming to fiiiiind you."
Jack then asked "Doctor, can you hear that?"
The Doctor replied "Loud and clear."
Jack then said "I'll try to block out the signal. Least I can do."
THE CHILD said "Coming to find you, mummy!"
Jack then said "Remember this one, Rose?" Then Glenn Miller's 'Moonlight Serenade' plays through the radio.
Rose looks ever so slightly uncomfortable as the Doctor turns to look at her questioningly.
Rose then said a little embarrassed "Our song."
The Doctor nods - but it seems as though he doesn't like this. Rose shifts from foot to foot, smiling embarrassedly.
DWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDW Rose shuffles around in the wheel chair, bored. The radio still plays 'Moonlight Serenade'. The buzzing of the sonic screwdriver in the background. Rose spins the wheel chair around in the Doctor's direction. Rose then asked "What you doing?"
The Doctor then answered while holding the sonic screwdriver up against the wall near the window "Trying to set up a resonation pattern in the concrete. Loosen the bars."
Rose then said "You don't think he's coming back, do ya?"
The Doctor replied "Wouldn't bet my life."
Rose then said "Why don't you trust him?"
The Doctor then said "Why do you?"
Rose then said "Saved my life. Bloke-wise, that's up there with flossing." The Doctor does not answer. Rose looks at him for a moment and continues speaking "I trust him 'cos he's like you. Except with dating and dancing." The Doctor shoots her a look. Rose then said "What?"
The Doctor then said "You just assume I'm..."
Rose then said "What?"
The Doctor vulnerable said "You just assume that I don't... dance."
Rose "What, are you telling me you DO... dance?"
The Doctor then said " Nine hundred years old, me. I've been around a bit. I think you can assume that at some point I've DANCED."
Rose grins even more.
Ben zones them out and starts to nap.
Ben woke up in time to realize he was be teleported
Jack then said "Actually, I quit. Nobody takes my frock."
The Doctor and Rose look up in surprise - and somehow, they are standing in Jack's ship. They look around at their surroundings, now standing apart. Jack then continued "Most people notice when they've been teleported. You guys are so sweet. Sorry about the delay. I had to take the nav-com offline to override the teleport security."
The Doctor then said "You can spend ten minutes overriding your own protocols? Maybe you should remember whose ship it is."
Jack then said "Oh, I do. She was GORGEOUS."
Rose smiles. Jack then continues speaking "Like I told her - be back in five minutes." He ducks into a compartment underneath the console. The Doctor looking around said "This is a Chula ship."
Jack calling up "Yeah, just like that medical transporter. Only, this one IS dangerous."
The Doctor snaps his fingers, and his hand is instantly surrounded by nanogenes.
Rose then said "They're what fixed my hands up! Jack called 'em, um..."
The Doctor then said "Nanobots? Nanogenes."
Rose then said "Nanogenes, yeah."
The Doctor then said "Sub-atomic robots. There's millions of them in here, see? Burned my hand on the console when we landed - all better now. They activate when the bulk head's sealed. Check you out for damage, fix any physical flaws."
Rose beams. The Doctor banishes the nanogenes with a wave of his hand and turns to Jack and said "Take us to the crash site. I need to see your space junk."
Jack as though he's being nagged "As soon as I get the nav-com back online." The Doctor looks mildly annoyed. "Make yourself comfortable. Carry on with whatever it was you were..." gestures the two of them
"... doing."
The Doctor then said innocently "We were talking about dancing!"
Jack then said "It didn't look like talking."
Rose then said "Didn't feel like dancing."
The Doctor looks at her
Ben then said "looks like they got one dance down the feelings dance."

Rose is sitting talking to Jack. Jack is in the pilot seat - the Doctor and Ben are sitting some way behind Rose, not taking part in the conversation.
The Doctor watches him.
Jack then said "Your friend over there doesn't trust me. And for all I know... he's right not to." The computer bleeps. "Okay, we're good to go." The Doctor looks up. "Crash site?"
DWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDW The Doctor, Ben, Rose and Jack walk over the rail station near the bombsite. They peer over the barbed wire.
Jack then said "There it is." Spots Algy pacing up and down and said "Ay, they've got Algy on duty. Must be important."
The Doctor then said "We've gotta get past."
Rose then said "The words 'distract the guard' head in my general direction."
Jack then said "I don't think that'd be such a good idea."
Rose then said "Don't worry... I can handle it."
Jack then said "I've got to know Algy quite well since I've been in town. Trust me. You're not his type. I'll distract him." walks away "Don't wait up."
And off he goes. Rose, Ben and the Doctor look at each other.
The Doctor then said "Relax, he's a 51st century guy. He's just a bit more flexible when it comes to dancing."
Rose then asked "HOW flexible?"
Ben then said "Jack just fishes in all ponds."
The Doctor then said "Well, by his time, you lot have spread out across half the galaxy."
Rose then said "Meaning?"
The Doctor said grinning "So many species, so little time..."
Rose then said "What, that's what we do when we get out there? That's our mission? We seek new life, and... and..."
The Doctor replied "Dance."He sniggers.
DWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDW
And he coughs, falling to his knees. Before the very eyes of Jack, Rose, Ben, and The Doctor, his face transforms into a gas mask. Jack is horror-struck. The other soldiers begin to hurry over. The Doctor then said "Stay back!"
Jack then said "You men! Stay away!"
Rose, Ben and the Doctor rush over to Jack, and Algy - who is lying on the floor, lifeless. Rose stares down at him in shock.
The Doctor then said "The effect's become air-borne. Accelerating."
Rose then said "What's keeping US safe?"
The Doctor replied "Nothing." The air-raid siren sounds.
Jack said looking up "Ah, here they come again."
Rose then said "All we need. Didn't you say a bomb was gonna land... HERE?" Jack nods. Someone in the background is singing.
The Doctor then said "Never mind about that. If the contaminants air-borne now, there's hours left. "
Jack then said "For what?"
The Doctor then said "'Til nothing. 'Til forever. For the entire human race. And can anyone else hear singing?"
DWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDW Rose, Ben, and Jack appear in the doorway. The handcuffs snap open, Nancy stands, and they all leave the shed, leaving Jenkins fast asleep.
DWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDW
They go back to the bomb site, and the Doctor and Jack uncover the Chula med-ship, which has a tarpaulin over it, hiding it from view. Nancy and Rose watch. Jack then said "You see? Just an ambulance."
Nancy then asked "That's an ambulance?"
Rose then said with a reassuring arm around Nancy "It's hard to explain, it's... it's from another world."
Jack then said looking at the controls "They've been trying to get in."
The Doctor then said "Of COURSE they have."Jack begins to enter the code. "They think they've got their hands on Hitler's latest secret weapon. What're you doing?"
Jack then said "Well, the sooner you see this thing is empty, the sooner you'll see I had nothing to do with it. " The controls explode with sparks, and they all jump backwards. An alarm goes off. "Didn't happen last time. "
The Doctor then said "It hadn't crashed last time. They're the emergency protocols."
Rose then said "Doctor, what IS that?" A red light on the control panel flashes.

Rose then said "Doctor!" The gates at the other side of the bomb site are shaking.
The Doctor then said "Captain, Theron secure those gates!"
Jack then said "Why?"
The Doctor then replied "Just do it!"
Ben then said "Okay"
Jack obeys. The Doctor turns to Nancy "Nancy, how'd you get in here? "
Jack and Ben slam a gate shut.
DWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDW
Jack and Ben are back with The Doctor and Jack opens the hatch of the med-ship and said to the Doctor "It's empty. Look at it." Rose and Nancy join them. The Doctor then said "What do you expect in a Chula medical transporter? Bandages? Cough drops? Rose?"
Rose then said "I dunno."
The Doctor then said "Yes, you do."
He mimes summoning the nanogenes.
Then Rose then said "Nanogenes!"
The Doctor then said to Jack "It wasn't empty, Captain. There was enough nanogenes in there to rebuild a species. "
Jack then ashen, shaken - he gets it "Oh, God."
The Doctor then said "Getting it now, are we? When the ship crashes, the nanogenes escape. Billions upon billions of them, ready to fix all the cuts and bruises in the whole world. But what they find first is a dead child, probably killed earlier that night and wearing a gasmask."
Rose then said "And they brought him back to life? They can DO that?"
Ben then said "they're from the future."
The Doctor then said "What's life? Life's easy. A quirk of matter. Nature's way of keeping meat fresh. Nothing to a nanogene."
Ben then said " let me take a guess they don't know what a human is suppose to look like." Jack, Rose and Nancy are listening to him intently, processing this.
The Doctor then said "All they've got to go on is one little body, and there's not a lot left. But they carry right on. They do what they're programmed to do, they patch it up. Can't tell what's gasmask and what's skull, but they do their best. Then off they fly - off they go, work to be done. 'Cos you see NOW they THINK they know what people should look like and it's time to fix all the rest. And they won't ever stop. They won't ever, ever stop. The entire Human Race is gonna be torn down and rebuilt in the form of one terrified child looking for its mother, and NOTHING in the world can stop it!"
His voice has risen almost to a shout. Jack is abashed, shaken and said defiantly "I didn't know."
The Doctor fixes him with a cold stare for a few seconds, and then goes back to examining the med-ship, starting work with his sonic screwdriver Nancy stares into the distance, beyond the fence. The gasmask people have arrived, still calling 'mummy'.
Nancy then said scared "Rose?" Rose rushes to Nancy's side, following her gaze. The gasmask people stumble towards them over the rail-track. They are quite a distance away, but still too close. Rose rushes back to the med-ship, and looks again at the flashing red light on the control panel. Rose then said to the Doctor "It's bringing the gasmask people here, isn't it?"
The Doctor then said "The ship thinks it's under attack. It's calling up the troops. Standard protocol."
Rose then replied " But... the gasmask people aren't troops..."
The Doctor then responded "They are now. This is a battle-field ambulance. The nanogenes don't just fix you up - they get you ready for the front line. Equip you, programme you."
Rose then said "That's why The Child's so strong. Why it could do that phoning thing."
The Doctor then said "It's a fully equipped Chula warrior, yes. All that weapons tech in the hands of a hysterical four year old - looking for his mummy. And now there's an army of them."
The gasmask people surround the fence. The five of them look around nervously.
Jack then said "Why don't they attack?"
The Doctor then said "Good little soldiers. Waiting for their commander."
Jack then said "The Child?"
Nancy then replied "Jamie."
Jack responded "What?"
Nancy then said glaring at him "Not 'The Child'. Jamie."
The Doctor looks at her.
Rose then said "So, how long until the bomb falls?"
Jack then said "Any second."
The Doctor then said "What's the matter, Captain? Bit close to the volcano for you?"
Nancy then replied "He's just a little boy."
The Doctor then said "I know."
Nancy then said upset "He's just a little boy who wants his mummy."
The Dotor then replied "I know. There isn't a little boy born who wouldn't tear the world apart to save his mummy. And this little boy can."
Rose then asked loudly "So what're we gonna DO?"
The Doctor then replied "I don't know." Rose sighs. Tears whell in Nancy's eyes.
Nancy then said "It's my fault. "
The Doctor then said "No. "
Nancy then said "It is. It's all my fault."
The Doctor then said gently "How can it be your—" He suddenly breaks off. He spins around, looking at all the gasmask people positioned behind the fence, calling for their mummy - and then back at Nancy, who is sobbing uncontrollably. He stares at her. Then he asked "Nancy, what age are you? Twenty? Twenty-one? Older than you look, yes?"
A bomb lands nearby. Rose, Ben, and Jack flinch.
Jack then said "Doctor - that bomb. We've got seconds." Another lands.
Rose then said to Jack "You can teleport us out. " The Doctor is paying them no attention, eyes fixed on the sobbing Nancy. Jack then said "Not you guys. The nav-com's back online. Gonna take too long to override the protocols."
The Doctor then said eyes fixed on Nancy "So it's volcano day. Do what you've got to do. "
Ben then said "go ahead."
Rose then said staring at Jack, betrayed "Jack?" Jack looks at her almost apologetically. He makes his decision and teleports himself out. The Doctor then said to Nancy "How old were you five years ago? Fifteen? Sixteen? Old enough to give birth, anyway. "
Nancy, still sobbing, glances up at him and then away again, shame faced.
Ben then said "he's your son not your brother."
Nancy shakes her head, tearful.
The Doctor then started speaking "A teenage single mother in 1941. So you hid. You lied." Nancy nods, tears streaming down her face.
Then Ben spoke "you even lied to him."
The gates swing open. The Child stands at the forefront of an army of gasmask people, ready to charge.
The Child then said "Are you my mummy?"
The Doctor then said "He's gonna keep asking, Nancy. He's never gonna stop. Tell him."
Ben then said "Nancy, no matter how bad a child should know the truth of who his parent's are." No answer. The gasmask people begin to walk forward.
The Doctor then replied "Nancy... the future of the human race is in your hands. Trust me... and tell him. "
Ben then said "he's right tell him." Nancy sniffs, still tearful. The Child approaches them.
The Child then said "Are you my mummy?"
The Doctor gives Nancy a gentle push in the direction of The Child.
The Child then asked "Are you my mummy? Are you my mummy?"
Nancy whispers "Yes. " her voice gets stronger "Yes. I AM your mummy." She faces him. The Child walks slowly forward.
The Child "Mummy?"
Nancy then said "I'm here."
The Child then said "Are you my mummy?"
Nancy kneeling before him said "I'm here."
The Child "Are you my mummy?"
Nancy then whispers "Yes."
The Doctor said to Rose and Ben
"He doesn't understand. There's not enough of him left."
Nancy looks at her little boy and said tearful, sincere "I am your mummy. I will always be your mummy. I'm so sorry." She takes him into her arms, no longer caring what will happen. The nanogenes surround them, making them glow with a golden light. "I am so, so sorry."
Rose then to the Doctor asked "What's happening?"
Nancy, still hugging her little boy, has her eyes closed and is stroking his hair. "Doctor, it's changing her, we should—"
Ben then said "Rose I think it's the other way around."
The Doctor then said holding an arm out to silence her "Shh!"
He stares intently at the two of them surrounded by the nanogenes, apprehensive and excited. "Come on, please. Come on, you CLEVER little nanogenes - figure it out! The mother. She's the mother! There's gotta be enough information, figure it out!"
Rose then asked "What's happening?"
The Doctor replied pointing "See? Recognizing the same DNA."
Nancy falls away from The Child to the ground, as the nanogenes disappear. The Doctor, Ben, and Rose rush over, the Doctor staring down at The Child, hardly daring to hope. "Oh, come on. Give me a day like this. Give me this one." He reaches out to the gasmask... and removes it, revealing a perfectly ordinary, very sweet little boy underneath. Nancy stares in delighted wonder and the Doctor laughs ecstatically. He lifts the little boy into the air, swinging him around. "Ah-ha-ha! Welcome back! Twenty years 'til pop music - you're gonna love it." And he hugs Jamie, laughing.
Nancy then asked in wonder "What happened?"
Then The Doctor replied "The nanogenes recognised the superior information - the parent DNA. They didn't change YOU because YOU changed them! Haha!" plonks Jamie down in front of her
Ben then said "Mother knows best!"
Nancy then said almost crying with happiness "Jamie...!" A bomb lands nearby.
Rose then responds with "Doctor, Theron that bomb..."
The Doctor then said "Taken care of it."
Rose then asked "How?"
The Doctor then replied gesturing Nancy and Jamie
"Psychology!" The bomb plummets towards them... and is suddenly snatched out of the air by a blue forcefield. A moment later, Jack appears hovering in the tunnel of light. He calls down to them.
Jack then said "Doctor!"
The Doctor then said "Good lad!"
Jack then said "The bomb's already commenced detonation. I've put it in stasis but it won't last long."
The Doctor then replied "Change of plan - don't need the bomb. Can you get rid of it? Safely as you can?"
Jack then said "Rose?"
Rose then replied "Yeah?"
Jack then said "Goodbye and look after them Theron." And he disappears. Rose looks slightly let down - and then he reappears "Rose by the way - love the tee-shirt."
He grins. Rose returns the grin, pulling the tee-shirt down embarrassedly. Jack disappears again. His ship zooms off into the night sky. The Doctor walks a few paces away, staring intently at his hands. He summons the nanogenes. They flutter around his hands.
Rose then asked "What're you doing?"
The Doctor then said "Software patch. Gonna email the upgrade. You want moves, Rose? I'll give you moves." And he throws the nanogenes away from him, towards the gasmask people who are still milling around on the train track. The Doctor gives his widest grin as the gasmask people fall to the floor, the nanogenes surrounding them. Ben pulls out the box from his bigger on the inside pocket and captures a few nanogens and puts it back in his pocket. The Doctor ecstatic "Everybody lives, Rose, Theron. Just this once. Everybody lives!" And the gasmask people get to their feet - except they are no longer gasmask people. They are restored to normal human beings. The Doctor bounds over to Doctor Constantine. "Doctor Constantine. Who never left his patients. Back on your feet, constant doctor! World doesn't wanna get by without you just yet, and I don't blame it one bit."
gestures the former gasmask people milling around "These are your patients. All better, now!"
then said "Yes, yes... so it seems. They also seem to be standing around in a disused railway station. Is there any particular reason for that?" The Doctor then said beaming "Yeah, well, you know - cutbacks. Listen, whatever was wrong with them in the past, you're probably gonna find that they're cured. Just tell them what a great doctor you are. Don't make a big thing of it. Okay?"
And he rushes back to Rose and Ben. An old lady - Mrs Harcourt - hobbles towards Constantine.
DWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDW
The Doctor calling over them from on top of the Chula med-ship "Right, you lot! Lots to do! Beat the Germans, save the world - don't forget the Welfare State!" Constantine smiles. He and his patients begin to walk away, and the Doctor bends down to the control. He speaks to Rose and Ben. "Setting this to self-destruct, soon as everybody's clear. History says there was an explosion here. Who am I to argue with history?"
Rose then said "Usually the first in line."
The Doctor looks at her and grins. She grins back.
DWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDW
The Doctor, Ben and Rose enter the TARDIS, the Doctor still chatting away happily "The nanogenes will clean up the mess and switch themselves off - because I just told them to. Nancy and Jamie will go to Doctor Constantine for help - ditto - all in all, all things considered - fantastic!"Rose smiles at his enthusiasm.
"Look at you, beaming away like you're Father Christmas!"
The Doctor then said "Who says I'm not, red-bicycle-when-you-were-twelve?" Rose startled "What?!"
The Doctor then with arms wide to embrace this said "And everybody lives, Rose! Everybody lives!" Pings a switch on the console. "I need more days like this.
Rose then responded "Doctor..."
The Doctor then said "Go on, ask me anything. I'm on FIRE!"
Rose then asked "What about Jack?"
The Doctor's smile fades, and he carries on working, as though he doesn't want to answer this. "Why'd he say goodbye?"
No answer. The Doctor stares intently at the console.
DWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDW
We pull back and back. The bomb ticks away... 'Moonlight Serenade' in the background... continue to pull back - right through the doors of the TARDIS. Jack spins around. Rose and the Doctor seem to be in a rather awkward position inside.
Rose calling to Jack "Well, hurry up then!"
Jack leaps to his feet and dashes into the TARDIS.
Rose and the Doctor are waltzing around to 'Moonlight Serenade'. Rose is teaching the Doctor dances moves, making okaying noises as they dance . Jack looks around at the sheer size of the place, compared with the outside. Ben then said "I have a thing to do" and he walks away
ROSE DWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDW
Ben then reaches a random door and thinks "hey sexy I know you can archive rooms that don't exist yet but can you connect to different times I'm here to make your pretty one and red one happy and make sure your thief does not find out."
Then Ben walks in and is in an empty room with another door that door opens and Rory, and Amy walked in. Rory then said "Theron how did you get in before us." Ben then said "I'm not your Theron I'm his past self so don't tell me anything Amy stand still " and pulls out the box "these are nanogenes that should fix you so you could have kids again."
Ben then opens the box and the nanogenes fly towards Amy and she glows and the glow disappears and so do the nanogenes "Rory you should check but she should be able to have kids." And Ben walks out the door he came from back and goes back to the control room.
DWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDWDW
Ben then heard The Doctor say "I can dance!"
Rose then replied "Actually, Doctor... I thought Jack might like this dance."
The Doctor "unfazed"
I'm sure he would, Rose. I'm absolutely certain. But who with?"
Rose sniggers and hops up the steps to take the Doctor's hands. It's almost as though he was only pretending he couldn't dance before. He spins her perfectly. Jack watches them with a big smile on his face as they dance around the console room, perfect partners. The Doctor suddenly throws her backwards over his arm, earning a whoop of delight from Rose. Jack averts his eyes, still smiling. Rose pulls herself up, and sags onto his shoulder, giggling.
