Winry stood at the train station with Pinako trying to hold back tears. Ed and Al hung out of the window of their compartment and waved. She bit her lip, and smiled as she waved back at them.
Pinako had one hand on the blonde's shoulder and waved with the other. Al pulled Ed's frame inside as the train gained momentum.
Winry ran alongside their window until the platform ended. She refused to cry. She didn't want to be the cry baby Ed had dubbed her.
Pinako walked over to her grandchild and hugged her. Winry looked at her with cloudy eyes. "They're gone Granny."
"They'll be back someday. He'll need maintenance on his automail from time to time," Pinako told her as they walked to the wagon. Once they were both sitting the front, and had started on the road home she tied the reigns on the bar in front of her and drew Winry close to her. "It's okay to cry. You don't have to be tough for them, they already are. Sometimes tough people need someone to do things for them that they won't—like cry."
Winry looked at her grandmother in awe—she was the smartest person she would ever know—and finally let the tears escape from her eyes.
