Nico P.O.V

If you somehow got a hold of ten year-old Nico and told him he liked pirates, he'd say "Sure, but that's not the right word". If you asked him if love was the right word he'd say, "It's better but not really". Nico was very sure that ten year-old Nico didn't know the right word but if you ask him now Nico would describe it as a mild obsession that he wish to be removed from his history. Nevertheless, he was hoping in his heart of hearts that he'd see a really cool pirate pop up and say, "Arghh, sorry for the cannonball me mates" or maybe something way cooler than anything Nico could think up but nope after Reyna went and broke the Olympicrecord for high jumping all Nico got to see was a an old guy cussing about his ship. Of course this wasn't enough to kill Nico's interest completely but it didn't serve fan the flame either.

By the time they finished tying up the pirates – not too tightly they weren't planning on dooming them – the sun had long gone down so Nico and company retired to bed. Nico knew himself to be one of the few demigods that were capable of controlling their dreams though his ability to do so did little for him in this dream started out with him in Tartarus reliving some of his experiences from a bird's eye view. The dream shifted to another moment in his life, when he desperately reached for Percy's hand as he held on trying to fight against the gravity of the pit. Once more the dream shifted he was being lifted into the sky below him was scenery he didn't recognize he went higher and higher even passing some clouds. Nico suddenly became unable to breathe he was floundering for air, you'd think it was a lack of oxygen but it was more like Nico was being choked, completely robbed of his ability to take in air. It was only when Nico's lungs gave way that he woke up.

Now a couple months ago Nico never thought he would say this but he very much missed his coffin for a bed at Camp Half-Blood it was very familiar and even though he'd been on the Argo II he didn't actually sleep in a cabin - since they were giving him Percy's an offer which Nico vehemently rejected – which left Nico waking up from being choked in a place he didn't really know. After the panic subsided, Nico realized he actually had time to be leisurely, most of the time he spent on the Argo II was pretty much constant monster repulsions. After getting himself ready – Bathing, changing clothes, brushing his teeth the works – Nico decided to just lay on his bed and let his mind was having fun too thinking about the weirdest things until a knocking on the door interrupted his moment of genius.

"Nico? It's time for breakfast." the voice – female –called from beyond the door. Nico rolled out of bed and walked to the door.

"Hazel? Or is it Reynaagain?" he opened the door. Golden brown hair – like cinnamon toast – with solid golden eyes, chocolate brown skin these features put a name to Nico's 'female voice'.

"The first one, Reyna's been coming to get you a lot hasn't she?" Hazel smiled at him sort of deviously. Now Nico loved his little sister to death but anytime Reyna just happened to end up being mentioned in their conversation she'd just start beaming at him. Nico was very sure that his relationship with Reyna was nothing like what Hazel was imagining but he could never shake the thought completely – for some reason.

Nico ignored Hazel's question and just walked out the door. Nico'sCabin, and Reyna's, were the farthest one – of those occupied – the lounge room, so he and Hazel had about 10 seconds of enjoying each other's presence before they arrived in everyone else's company.

"Good morning, Nico" Reyna greeted him. Now Reyna seemed to have made it a small duty of hers to greet Nico in front of people and he appreciated Reyna for a lot of the things she did but he could literally feel Hazel's smile from behind him even though he couldn't see her.

"Hello Reyna, to the rest of you aswell", it sounded bad to Nico but he kind of got put on the spot, courtesy of Reyna, and Hazel's giddy smile behind him wasn't much help. It seemed as if calling Nico was the last thing on the checklist before starting their meetings because everyone else was present and comfortable; in his defence Nico didn't like the sun which he guessed was blazing in the morning sky.

"Nice, everyone's here now", Annabeth announced. Everyone else had already gotten their plates though no one except Percy had started eating and hey at least it was only one pancake instead of a whole stack. They ate in peace for some time enough time for Nico to finish his omelette, Nico didn't each much especially when compared to any of the eaters on board but on Will's advice it seemed more nutrition was necessary for Nico to not become a twig.

"Seems fair to start now" Jason broke the silence. Everyone got their turn getting peered at by Jason's eyes as is per normal for Zeus' spawns his electric blue eyes had their way with unnerving Nico despite the friendship they had built over the last four months.

"Right so since dealing with Charybdis and Scylla is so dangerous we'll be entering the Sea of Monsters through the Clashing Rocks." Annabeth started.

"You were talking about the ship? How are we going to use it?" Hazel asked.

"Jason, the first one, used a dove to go through the rocks first and then used the extra time where the rocks had to reopen to get a head start in." Annabeth continued.

"And so we use the ship as the guinea pig this time", Frank completed the thought.

"But the dove lost a feather didn't it? It wouldn't be a stretch to think that the whole ship could get crushed especially seeing how the rocks are there to stop travel by sea." Piper added.

"Yeah, that's were it gets dangerous", Annabeth said. Her eyes settled on Nico, his brain began to work overtime searching for the reason why Annabeth's grey eyes were focused on him.

"So obviously Percy's going since he's the only one to pilot the ship and Nico would be able to shadow travel them both out if or when they're in trouble." Annabeth 's stomach churned, I mean sure he sorted the whole 'thing' with Percy out already there's no way that didn't leave an impression. Jason looked on Nico with concern.

"Sounds like a plan". He surprised himself with how normal he sounded.

"So how long will it be until we get there?" Reyna asked. Nico was grateful that Reyna was now the centre of attention at least Sparky staring at him all full of concern.

"We're about half an hour away from entering the Bermuda Triangle. As for the clashing rocks who knows no real way for us to know how far those are." Nyssa statedhearing her voice surprised Nico since she didn't talk led Nico to forget about her constantly especially since on the Argo II Festus was perfectly capable of moving the ship on his own.

"So what do the rest of us do?" Frank asked. "Do we just charge in when rocks start to re-open?"

"Sounds about right, then we slide on through get to the Trench find Leo and then we can just fly on back to camp." Percy had a way of simplifying things to the point where worrying about anything seemed stupid. With that whatever tension was in the room was released as if someone let go of the opening of a balloon. Nico could actually see Piper's chest fall. After they left the lounge, Percy boarded the second ship their fleet and they were soon moving forward to face their next challenge.

It took them much longer to reach the Clashing Rocks than half an hour – that's what you get for judging demigod things with mortal's entrances. Around two hours after setting sail Nico found himselfstaring at a massive rock wall, just there in the middle of the ocean. It was so tall that Nico could not see the top, the brown stone was completely smooth making it impossible to climb and down the middle there was a slit splitting the wall into halves – their opening into the Sea of Monsters.

Now Nico didn't want to be disappointed by Blackbeard again but the ship was in no way like its master. The replica of the Queen Anne's Revenge was the quintessential pirate ship. Massive white sails with the black Jolly Roger flag perched in the crows nest the 16 spoke steering wheellike it was ripped straight from Nico's couldn't remember being this excited for anything in a while. He would have been searching every crevice of the ship wondering if any of the things were actually exactly like the first Queen Anne's lest they had task at hand. Percy seemed to take notice of his excited energy.

"You know I've seen the first one." Percy called out to Nico. "We hijacked that one too, a couple years back". Nico's curiosity beat reason in the race to control his vocals.

"What happened to it?"

"Clarisse got it smashed." Great leave to Clarisse to wreck a good thing. Nico drew his mind away from the pirate talk and he levelled his eyes with the wall that was maybe 600 feet in front of them. Nico's hand rested on the butt of his sword which he brought because nothing goes wrong when you're demigod.

"Let's get started shall we." Nico said gesturing toward the wall. Without another word the ship lurched forward and accelerated. Soon the slit that Nico had observed had become a large aperture in the massive rock formation, Percy did not hesitate and the boat kept going and soon plunged into darkness.

Nico couldn't see much more than the water in front of them other than the quickly fading light behind him nothing served to brighten the area. Nico's hand gripped his sword ready to react to any earthly assailants. They sailed further into the blackness beforePercy broke the silence.

"Nico have you been having any dreams lately?" Percy asked. Now this question would sound stupid even in a normal context, people dreamed all the time demigods even more so. The absurdity of the question being asked by a person who should know better piqued Nico's interest.

"Yes, why?" Nico really had no joy to speak about what he experienced earlier that morning and he had an inkling thatthat feeling was mutual between them.

"Were they about Tartarus?" Percy's voice was small, a very un-Percy-like characteristic. At the mention of the primordial god's name a loud boom echoed overhead. One of the first of the few lessons Nico got from his father Hades was that names had power; the walls had started to converge.

"Yes, it was." Despite the slowly decreasing space they had Nico was calm, this is what they came for after all.

"Nico, if he tries anything." Percy stopped composing himself, Nico understood Tartarus was no joke and definitely not anything Nico would wish on any person – monsters were fine though. "I don't know if we could stop –"

Remember how nothing ever wrong, well case in point. A huge stone likely the size of Nico's fist fell right on towards the front of his head. Nico's body went limp and he fell to the ground.

"Oh Gods, no" Percy hurried over to Nico's side then frantically touched his pockets and he cursed. Nico knew why, they didn't carry any ambrosia or nectar they simply expected this to be an in and out job, especially wouldn't do much against getting clashed on by the rocks. As Percy was focused on Nico, the ship stopped its advance and Nico noticed the walls froze in place as well.

"Keep going, the walls won't close if you don't." Nico managed.

"No, you have to shadow travel now you need help." Percy insisted. Nico tried to move in an attempt to show he was fine which failed miserably and the pain almost made him lose consciousness, matter of fact it was a miracle Nico was still alive much less conscious.

"Then who helps Leo?" Nico struggled to cough out the words. Percy grimaced but then he faced forward and ship moved forward at speeds it didn't touch before and the walls responded with gusto spewing rocks and moving to crush the ship faster in response to Percy gunning the ship. Nico tried his hardest to stay conscious, he concentrated on all the people he'd ever want to punch in the face then he imagined himself doing satisfaction kept him from passing out.

"It's light" Percy shouted. Nico didn't dare move to get a look; he could only take Percy's word. What he could confirm was that the grating sounds meant that the rocks were just about ready to get clashing. Sure enough in a matter of seconds the boat slowed to a stop stuck between the converging rocks.

"Nico, we should go now", Percy looked at him. There was once more enough light for Nico's eyes to register the beads of sweat on his face, going that fast must have taken a lot out of him. Percy rested his hand on Nico's shoulder, Percy probably did it so he didn't get left behind but Nico decided to take it as a sign of trust it was his turn to save the hero. Nico tried to picture the ship however Nico's muddled mind couldn't get the picture of the ArgoII out of his head and it didn't exist anymore, if he stalled on it any longer they end up who knows where. He thought of the other things that were where he needed to go, people he needed to get back to. A voice rang in his brain,

"Reyna's been coming to get you a lot hasn't she?"

"Yes she has." Nico thought and he and melted into shadow.
