PrincessPalmTiger: How could you do such a thing!?! He's just a baby!!
TheGreatTigerGoddess: *crawls out from the pile of chapter 10 hate mail* This had to happen in order for the story to progress. Even I, the writer, was crying as I wrote that and this chapter. Did you guys actually think i would kill him off with no remorse?
*grabs all the babies*
I may be Romanian but im not a complete monster!
P.s. People were asking where we are in the story (begining middle or the end) and i want to let everyone know we are at the 25% mark. There is still a TON of bullshit i have left to show you all so dont get upset thinking that what just happened is going to mark the end of this story.
Chapter 11 - Ballad Of A Grieving Mother
Sara walked quickly but solemnly to her room. She had released the babies from the freezer and had lopped off a piece of the Trope for them to eat. Koba was still cradled in her arms. His little body still trying to cling to the thin thread of life. Sara didn't want the others to see her distress but even if she tried to hide it they knew very well what had happened. None of them gave a chirp or even made a sound as they briskly followed her down the hall and into the room.
Sara didn't even bother to chop up the meat instead she just tossed it to a corner of the room. The babies, but not Hank, followed the meat as it was sent flying like a pack of dogs going after a new ball. Their attention upon their mother and brother quickly replaced.
Placing Koba on the table as gently as possible she grabbed the first aid items from her bag. She knew that even if she had tried to mend his wounds the odds of him living were slim to none. She was on the verge of a mental and physical breakdown. All she wanted to do was wish the day had not ended up the way it had and more importantly wished that her little Koba was not about to shake hands with death. Wrapping up the smaller wounds was the easy part but once she got to the deeper cuts she had to improvise. She was no surgeon nor was she a certified vet technician so with shaky hands and slightly clean utensils she managed to close off almost all of the deeper more life threatening wounds. For added measure in some hopes that it would help she had cleaned him with two of the alcohol pads. It was indeed a painful clean up as the alcohol stung his flesh like a hornet making his muscles twitch trying to get away from the pad.
When she could do all she could Sara placed all the leftover items that were still usable away. Grabbing one of the clean sheets she used it to wrap around Koba, keeping his head free mind you, so that as she picked him up and over to the bed whatever dirt that was there would not get into his wounds. Placing him in the center of the bed she kicked off her shoes and crawled in to curl herself around his body. She placed no weight on him but kept close enough to keep him warm as well as shield him from the light coming in from the window.
Sara spent the rest of the day there. The babies all had tried to coax her to play but no matter how much they tugged at her clothes or nudged her with their snouts Sara never moved nor made any attempt to look at them. Instead, her eyes were locked on Koba's body only breathing when he did and waited anxiously when he didn't. Her mind was a mess. She blamed everything for what had happened to him. Her for being negligent, the Trope, Blue, and at one point even blamed the poor baby himself for being so crazy as to attack a fully grown adult raptor. As she lay there she dealt with all the emotions she was feeling and tried to shove them away. However the more she did the more anxiety she felt. Each and every thought of each breath she saw him take being his last made her chest hurt and her heart jump. There was so much fear going through her and to be honest she couldn't handle it all.
It was when the sun had finally set that she had calmed her emotions down enough, or until she was almost numb to them, to at least try and sleep. Sara could feel the other babies around her. When they had all climbed onto the bed she didn't know but she knew from the sounds of their snorts and tired whines that they were barely going to fall asleep. Eventually Sara had fallen asleep as well. She had no idea when she had though. She didn't want to sleep but sometime after watching Koba move his head ever so slightly and let out a small wheeze she had calmed down enough to do so.
Its always a thing when you are stressed to a point to where you always have dreams correlating with what had happened to stress you out in the first place and Sara was no exception. Her dream was a jumbled mess. Memories of her past as a child, David meeting her parents, the animals she trained all were thrown together with the attack. The voices and sounds, especially Blue's scream, were at their highest volume setting echoing painfully in her mind. It seemed that the longer and longer the dream lasted the louder the sounds and voices grew. It made her want to cry out as well, unbeknown to her that she had very quietly but still loud enough to make the other babies wake to look towards her. The dream had lasted for a good several hours. She didn't know when she had woken up but had done so with a sudden fright.
Her eyes shot open and her hand grabbed the sheet tightly. It was still dark out but she could tell that the sun was going to be coming out soon. Sitting up Sara gave a long sigh trying to attempt to calm what was left of her screwed up nerves. But that didn't help the moment she noticed what was on the sheet she had grabbed. It was slightly warm but the wet fabric cause Sara to whip around quickly to see a medium blood stain on Koba's sheet. During the night the dressings had came loose and the pressure keeping him from bleeding had failed causing a large amount of blood from the small raptor to seep though and out onto the once white sheet. Sara began to panic again as she realized what had happened.
"No...No..no no!"
Sara quickly with shaking hands undid the bloody sheet hoping it was just a trick of the eyes, but the reality she was met with made her start to cry. The wounds on his stomach were the ones that had reopened staining the cloth dark brown. It was the moment Sara peeled away the last layer on the baby's chest that she herself went white. At that moment she had seen his chest fall for the last time and the ghost of his last breath leaving the small raptors slightly opened mouth.
Sara's pained scream echoed through every inch of the hotel's walls. From the laundromat in the basement to the highest room her cries ebbed themselves in each and every crevasse. Using her hand she gently started shaking Koba. Sara wept as she tried to get him to take a breath even though she knew her efforts wouldn't do anything to change him. It wasn't until she realized that she was only reopening his wounds even more that she stopped.
It was a painful reality that she was living. Even worse was the fact that she had no way of stopping it from getting any more worse than what it already was. To say that anything or everything after what had happened would get better was more than just a lie. She knew it. She knew it since the very beginning when she grabbed the eggs and it pissed her off at the fact that she thought that it wouldn't. It made her hate herself. Every person goes through this at least once. Where they feel as if they had screwed up to a point to where they feel as if there is no way to turn back. They then start to point the finger at themselves and begin to throw stones at them self. They feel as if they are the problem when in reality its not. But Sara does not believe its not her fault in the slightest and in a fit of anger at herself she ended up storming out of the room.
TheGreatTigerGoddess: *pulls out 6 year old bottle of wine and starts chugging* I am so sorry for what i did to you in this chapter Koba!! *starts crying* I''M SOORRRYYY!!!!!
