Chapter 11: Ice Skating

Nessie's POV

Carlisle gave me another very long lecture about healthy eating. I didn't understand why he cared so much about what I ate. What was it to him anyway? Why did he care about my health so much? We didn't even know each other that well. Now he made me swear that I was going to visit him once a week so that he could monitor my blood pressure and make sure that I am actually following through on my diet. Apparently my blood pressure was dangerously high. Talk about annoying! He was even going to grocery shopping with me so that he could determine for himself what foods were okay for me and which ones weren't. He wanted to help me and my siblings make better and healthier choices. He made his concern very clear even though I didn't understand why he was so concerned.

Once we were all done eating (Carlisle had guilted me into giving my other Big Mac to my brother and sister) we all left for the park. There was a lake there that my siblings and I loved to skate on.

As we were walking through the park I could the scent of something delicious. The smell was just to powerful for me to ignore. I followed it without the others noticing. The scent led me to a pie eating contest. I loved food eating contests! Especially ones that involve pies! By the looks of it they were going to eat cherry pies. Whoever eats the most pies in two minutes wins five hundred dollars. I calculated my odds of entering without anyone, especially Carlisle, finding out. I thought they were pretty good. I could always say I had to use the bathroom to excuse my sudden absence. Surely they would notice my absence eventually.

I went to the sign up table and picked up a paper and pen. Just as I was about to sign it an ice cold hand grabbed my shoulder and stopped me. I jumped and spun around to see that it was none other then Carlisle that had stopped me, the rest of the Cullens, along with Jacob were right behind him. I sighed.

"Don't even think about it Nessie" he said in a very stern voice.

"Sneaky bastard" I muttered so low that no one else could hear. But for some reason Carlisle cracked a smile.

We didn't say another word until we got to the frozen lake.

"Nessie are you sure that you want to go ice skating?" Bella asked me looking extremely nervous for some reason.

"Yes. It's fun" I said.

"I don't know" Edward said looking equally as nervous as Bella. "It seems kind of dangerous"

"Don't worry you two. We will be fine. Ice skating is one of our favorite hobbies. we know what we are doing"

"Are you sure?" Bella said looking scared when she looked at the lake. "What if you fall and split your head open or break your neck?" she said sounding a little panicky. She reminded me a lot of my own mother when we did something that scared or worried her.

"Bella you are beginning to remind me of my mother. Don't worry we will be fine" I said hoping that she would relax a little. I'm not sure if it worked or not. "We've been doing this for years and nothing bad has ever happened"

"Okay Nessie. Just be safe" she said still sounding unsure about the whole thing.

I took off with Marty and Sammy. We put on our ice skates on and together we kind of helped each other get onto the ice. Then we joined the rest of the crowd on the ice. It was a whole lot of fun. We avoided the eastern side of the lake because the ice was to thin. It's also a well known fact around here that the eastern part of the lake was a hell of a lot deeper there.

I could see the Cullens there watching us. Bella looked beyond nervous. But I could not get close to them. To do so would require me going onto the thin ice.

Mostly I played games with my brother and sister. We played tag. We had races with some of the other kids there. We performed some tricks. All was going well.

But of course it just had to end.

"Hey leave me alone!" Sammy shouted. I looked to see what was the matter and I saw several other kids that I had never met harassing her. They just would not leave her alone.

"Leave her alone!" I shouted once I had gotten close enough.

"Hey stay out of this kid. This is none of your business" the boy said.

"It is my business because she is my sister and I said leave her alone!" Nobody messes with my sister and got away with it.

"That is it. You're going to get it" he said. Him and another boy pushed us as far away from them as they could. They were laughing and smiling.

We regained our balance before we could fall.

"Are you okay Sammy?" I asked her. She took priority over myself.

"I'm fine. Are you okay?" she asked me sounding just as worried as I was about her.

"Yeah I'm fine" I said.

When I looked over at the guys who had pushed us they suddenly looked nervous. I looked over at Marty who looked absolutely terrified. It wasn't until I heard the ice beginning to crack when I realized that where we had ended up.

The ice suddenly collapsed on us and we both fell below into the frigid, deep water with the possibility of escaping being slim to none unless we were rescued fast enough. No matter how hard or fast we swam it was just to hard and the water was just to deep.
