"... And her lovely boyfriend, Natsu-san."
These words were enough to send Lucy in a mixture of fear and panic. What in the world did Sting want from her? Why was it he took such an interest in her when she didn't even feel the same way ... ?
"Luce, stay back." Natsu then said gravelly from besides her. He moved so he was now in front of her, standing protectively and facing Sting, a burning glow in his onyx eyes. "Leave us alone, Sting."
The other blonde laughed. "You coward, Natsu Dragneel." he spread his arms out wide in front of him, his blue eyes gleaming with scorn. "Are you afraid to back away from a fight?" He chuckled at his own remark.
Lucy clenched her fists.
Natsu then yelled a battle cry as he launched forwards at Sting, who clearly was surprised at his sudden outburst. Lucy saw his eyes widen as Natsu aimed a punch at Sting's face, who cackled as he intercepted it.
"NATSU!" Lucy shrieked as the two of the teens proceeded to fight each other. It was a series of blow after blow, punch, kick, block and all over again. At one point Sting kicked Natsu squarely in the stomach, and the pink haired teen crumbled to the ground.
"Natsu — !" Lucy sobbed as she dashed forwards to help her boyfriend, but to her surprise he stood up, and turned around. He was heavily bruised, but he was grinning as wide as ever. He winked and gave her a thumbs-up.
"I'll be fine, Luce. It's okay." Natsu smiled as he resumed to fight Sting once more, leaving a horrified Lucy staring after him. A mix of admiration and frustration bubbled in her stomach as she rolled her eyes as his behavior. She couldn't help but to smile at his stubborness.
Sting wiped the blood off the corner of his mouth as he grinned at Natsu. "Not gonna back down, are you? I'm glad — this matter is way more serious since we're fighting for her." He cocked his head to the side, angling towards Lucy.
Natsu laughed. "You're an idiot! She's already mine."
"I don't even like you, Sting!" Lucy shrieked. "I thought I made that clear already!"
Sting shrugged and grinned. "I'll make you love me, eh?"
The two boys ran at each other again, punching and kicking. Lucy couldn't help but admire both of their stamina and abilities, she knew that Natsu was in the boxing club but she had no idea he and Sting would match blow by blow.
And they even seemed to actually enjoy it, fighting.
The match went on, and Natsu seemed to be getting the upper hand. He jumped back as Sting aimed a punch at his stomach, and launched towards Sting, pushing him backwards into the bushes behind him.
He lay unmoving.
Natsu walked slowly towards the bushes, and Lucy breathed a sigh of relief. It didn't seem as if Sting was getting up sooner or later. She loosened her grip on her geometry book.
"I hope you learned your lesson," Natsu said seriously, glancing at Sting. He turned around and headed towards Lucy with a smile on his face. Lucy wasn't sure if she were to slap him for fighting or to hug him for winning.
"You idiot," Lucy chuckled as he laughed merrily, approaching her slowly.
He spread his arms wide. "See? I — "
And all of a sudden, Natsu's eyes widened hugely.
It took Lucy a minute to register the blade protruding from Natsu's stomach, more or less the blood pooling around it, and also dripping on the cement.
No ... He couldn't have ...
She saw Sting's smirk from behind Natsu.
He got up that quickly? No ...
"I learned my lesson, Natsu-san," Sting said as he removed the blade from Natsu, leaving him gasping and shuddering on the pavement, hands clutching his stomach as he winced in pain and shock.
Rage and pain engulfed Lucy's emotions. The sight of her boyfriend on the ground moaning in pain and the sadistic smirk on Sting's face fueled her anger. A shadow passed over her face as she clenched her fists.
"You ... You couldn't have ... " Lucy trembled, as she placed her trembling hands over her mouth in horror. Natsu coughed out in pain.
"L-Luce ... " He gasped, and Lucy sobbed.
Lucy then acted in an instant, following her instincts.
Immediately she screamed, and she was fully aware of her rage and sadness controlling her actions. She flung out the geometry book from inside her bookbag and ran towards Sting, who was smirking once more.
Oh, she would wipe that off his face.
She didn't know what happened after that. Her vision cleared. She kicked the blade out of Sting's hand, making his eyes widen, and him nearly fall backwards.
In his face, she growled.
"Eat knowledge, asshole."
... And in that instant, she shut her eyes closed, and yelled a battle cry as she smacked Sting with her geometry book across the face. A loud thud and crash into the grass signified that she succeeded.
When Lucy opened her eyes again, she dropped the geometry book at once, her hands trembling. It made a loud thud as it banged against the pavement. Her knees buckled, and she fell to the ground, shaking.
The sky had turned a bright red-orange sunset, but that was irrelevant to the situation. How time quickly flew by, Lucy thought as she shook her head at the thought.
She checked Sting, who was luckily unmoving. He still had a pulse, and Lucy was relieved that she just knocked him flat out unconcious and didn't damage his skull. For one, he'd probably need to get his cheek checked out. A purple bruise was forming where she'd hit him.
Then she ran to Natsu, who was still coughing.
"Oh, Mavis ... " Lucy sobbed as she turned him over. The wound didn't look that serious, thankfully. He wasn't stabbed in the heart or anything, but she still needed to get that treated. "Natsu? Natsu." She put pressure on the wound to stop the bleeding.
He coughed, and his eyes fluttered half-open. He managed to half-grin at her, and Lucy's heart nearly stopped. "H-Hey, Luce. I s-saw ... You gave him knowledge all right. Knowledge not to mess with you anytime soon." Natsu chuckled, and Lucy threw her hands around him.
She sobbed into his hair. "N-Natsu, you idiot ... I almost lost you because you were so reckless and stupid and — " she gasped for air. "You better not do that again, getting into a fight."
He winced in pain. "Yeah, yeah, but ... It was worth it." He gestured weakly to Sting, who was still out. "You sure gave him a lesson."
"Now that's over, I need to get you two to a hospital." Lucy said seriously. She was about to ring someone up until she heard quick footsteps coming from behind her, and loud pants.
"LUCY! NATSU!" A loud voice rang.
Surprised, she looked up to see Erza, Juvia, Gray, Wendy, Gajeel, and Levy standing in front of them, all panting heavily. Erza looked enraged. Her brown eyes were glinting dangerously.
Then out of the corner of her eye, she saw Rogue run out of the shadows, accompanied with a white haired girl who Lucy never saw before. Saber High students got word too? How embarrassing ...
"Nii-san!" Wendy gasped as she ran towards Natsu. Lucy could barely contain her sight. Wendy was Natsu's sister, but they looked nothing alike. Natsu never explained this to her that before ... Huh. She had many things to ask him once she got him to safety.
She was still surprised as Wendy pulled out a roll of bandages and began to nurse her brother, who was wincing as she slowly wrapped it around his wound. After Wendy had finished, Natsu relaxed and sighed slowly.
"Thanks ... Sis ..." Natsu whispered, opening one of his eyes and exhaling slowly. Lucy stared over him, trembling slightly, as she watched him breathe.
"You ... You know first aid?" Lucy asked the petite girl, who nodded.
"He'll be fine after resting," Wendy said as she pat her brother's forehead. He exhaled and inhaled once more before smiling, his eyes shut.
"I'm sorry Luce, I was reckless." He murmured.
Lucy sighed as she smiled. "Shhh. Just rest."
Silence passed as he laughed, and his breaths came in slower as he fell asleep. Everyone was silent until Gray finally spoke up after sighing loudly.
"He's an idiot. An idiot." Gray sighed as he shook his head.
Levy walked up to Lucy and knelt besides her. "Lu-chan, are you alright? That seemed like a nasty shock for you back there ..." She looked over to the unconcious Sting and the blood on Lucy's hands.
"I'm okay." Lucy said, exhaling. "I'm fine. It's just ... Natsu, that I'm worried about ..." She eyed her best friend carefully. "How did you guys know about this?"
Erza was the one who answered. "Well, it was a bit of a long story. I was at home when Gray called me and asked if the two of you were over at my house, which I responded no. Confused, I asked him why, and he panicked and told me that neither of you guys were at each other's houses. So we rang up Levy, Juvia, Gajeel, and Wendy but they all responded the same thing — you two weren't there."
"We got worried." She continued. "Then I overheard a conversation from Minerva — one of the people attending Saber High. Apparently her and Sting are an item. She was telling Yukino here — " she beckoned to the white haired girl, who nodded. " — something about Sting going after you, Lucy."
"We bombarded her with questions, but Minerva refused to answer any of them, so we went off to look for you. We heard a loud thud, and that led us to this point." Erza finished, looking at Lucy, concerned.
Gajeel snorted. "It looks like you handled the matter yourselves, for he's unconcious." He nodded at Rogue, who looked bitter. "Rogue here didn't know what he was even up to."
"I came because I feel as if I'm responsible for Sting's actions ... " Rogue then said, speaking up, his voice heavy. "I mean, I knew he liked you, Lucy ... But I didn't know he'd take it this far."
Lucy shook her head. "It's all right."
"So, what was that loud thud Juvia heard?" Juvia then spoke.
Lucy gulped. "Er ..."
She described the moment where she whacked Sting with her geometry book and that was the main reason why he was actually unconcious. When she finished, Gray and Erza gave her an approving look.
"Nice, Lu-chan." Levy smiled, giving her a thumbs-up. Lucy laughed nervously and inwardly wondered if she was going to get in loads of trouble at school for doing that.
Yukino then stepped forward and bowed politely. "I'm sorry for his actions. He's an embarrassment to us and Saber High ... Do we have to repay you for anything?"
Lucy immediately jumped and shook her head. "No, no, no! It's okay. Everyone's fine now, we'll all be fine once this is over. I'm sorry." She bowed too.
Rogue awkwardly stood, his shoulders hunched forwards. "I think I should admit that it would be nice to be on good terms with you guys ... ?"
Lucy's eyes widened. "Ah, yes! That'll be great ... " She held out a hand, and he held put his. At this the blonde shook both of the teen's hands gingerly, accepting them.
"Thank you," Yukino smiled at her as they brought Sting away, probably to the nearest hospital. Lucy gave them a reassuring smile, and then turned to the rest of her friends who were eyeing her weirdly.
She blinked. "What?"
Erza smiled in response as she gave Lucy a bone-cracking hug. "You're a great person, Lucy. I'm glad to have you on my side, and here at Fairy Academy." As she pulled away, Lucy saw her eyes glint with pride.
"I'll know not to mess with you and geometry books," Gray added as he smiled. Behind him, Juvia's eyes narrowed dangerously, making Lucy jump.
"Let's go bring Salamander back then," Gajeel then said as he picked Natsu up, as easy as tossing a bag over his shoulder. He started to walk off, towards the direction to Lucy's house.
Wendy started after him as she smiled at Lucy, thanking her for saving her brother. The rest of them then followed, chatting aimlessly amd excitedly, as if none of the events had just happened.
Lucy stood off to the distance as she smiled and watched her friends, and mostly Natsu even if he was still asleep. She still loved him though. Lucy loved him dearly.
She dashed fowards, smiling.
"Wait for me, guys!"
