The Ghosts and the Common Room:
"Hello," the see-through head greeted. "Welcome to Gryffindor," he saw the scared, surprised faces of Jenny, Ron and Cass and said, "Sorry for scaring you three,"
"That's okay," Jenny answered.
"We weren't scared when your head popped out," Cass quickly said.
"Yes, you three were," Henry corrected.
"No we weren't!" Ron retorted.
Their conversation was stopped by more ghosts appearing into the huge room. They included a beautiful girl with flowing hair and a pretty dress, a huge fat man and a blood stained sword-wielder. They floated everywhere making the students look at them in wonder.
"Hello Sir Nicholas, had a nice summer?" Percy asked.
Nicholas rose up a bit showing his historic clothing and turned to him. "Dismal. Once again, my request to join the Headless Hunt has been denied," Sir Nicholas started floating away.
Until Ron said, "I know you, you're Nearly Headless Nick!"
"I'd prefer Sir Nicholas, if you don't mind," Nick answered.
"Nearly Headless? How can you be nearly headless?" Henry asked confused making everyone look at him for asking that question.
"Like this," Sir Nicholas pulled his head to the side until it was on his shoulder and was hanging off his neck by an inch.
Ron flinched back in disgust, Cass grimaced a bit covering her mouth and Henry closed his eyes so he wouldn't have to see that disgusting sight. Jenny however didn't do anything not wanting to hurt Sir Nick's feelings. Sir Nick placed his head back in its place and started a new conversation.
"So new Gryffindors, I hope you can help us win the House Cup. Slytherin has won it six years in row and the Bloody Baron is becoming unbearable gloating about the castle.
"Who's the Bloody Baron?" Jenny asked Nick.
Cass answered for her. "He's the Slytherin House Ghost,"
"Who are the other House Ghosts?" Ron asked curiously.
"The Grey Lady for Ravenclaw. The Fat Friar for Hufflepuff,"
"And Sir Nicholas, that's me for Gryffindor!" Sir Nick cheered in the year. "Oh, new Gryffindors please help our house win Cup,"
"We'll do our best, Sir Nick," Jenny answered.
"But we can't promise we'll succeed," Henry cut in.
Ron glared at him. "Nice going, Hen. You just destroyed the nice answer for Sir Nick,"
"Oh, don't worry as long as Slytherin doesn't win the Cup. Then that's fine," Sir Nick said assuring Ron.
This earned another smirk from Henry. "Don't call me, Hen. Ron," he just went back to eating.
Cass and Jenny rolled their eyes again. They surely knew that this rivalry between the boys would go on.
The feast lasted for 15 more long minutes until everybody was full. All the students except the prefects and first years went out. Right after that, the Prefects started leading the way to the Common Rooms of their houses. They Slytherins headed down to the Dungeons, the Hufflepuffs went through corridors and the Ravenclaws and Gryffindors headed to the centre of the Castle where they came to a series of stair cases. "Ravenclaws, please follow me," the Ravenclaw Prefect ordered as the house known for its wise nature and cleverness follow him to the right.
Percy leading the young Gryffindors said to them, "Please keep up with me and do keep an eye on the stair cases. They like to change,"
Jenny looked upward and saw a towering set of stair platforms and cases that seemed to never end .the stair cases on the different levels were changing from side to side to touch different platforms for the different levels.
They started following Percy upwards. They passed by hundreds of pictures hanging onto the wall. They noticed that they were moving like films playing on the wall. They were talking as well as much to their surprise. They kindley greet them as they passed by.
As they were walking up, Cass asked Jenny, "Hey Jenny, I forgot to ask you, how do you know Hagrid?"
"He picked me up from my uncle and aunt and helped me buy my stuff from Diagon Alley," she explained. "He also gave me my mother's necklace and my father's wooden stag model,"
"What a nice fellow," Ron complimented. "And how is it, you know our Defence against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Quirrell?"
"I actually bumped into him into the Leady Cauldron," Jenny explained. "He's bit stuttered when he speaks,"
The Gryffindors continued walking upwards until they came to the seventh floor. They went down a long corridor with Percy constantly telling them to keep up.
They reached the end of the corridor where they came to a large portrait with a tall woman in a large pink dress. "Password," she demanded slowly.
"Caput Draconis," Percy said directly. The portrait opened revealing a doorway and a short tunnel. The students followed him through. They came inside a large room that had red curtains, red sofas and a red velvet carpet near a fire place. There was also a few desks to do homework, a few book cases, a couple of portraits and at the side of the room were two stone arches with a spiral staircase leading upwards. "Welcome to the Gryffindor Common Room!" Percy said welcoming everyone. "The Boys dormitory is upstairs and down to your left. Girls the same on your right. You'll find your belongings have already been brought up. Now I wish you all a pleasant good night,"
He headed to the boy's dormitory to go to bed. The boys started heading up as well, "Goodnight," Henry said before heading up as well.
"Have a nice sleep, Cass and Jenny," Ron said yawning.
"Night, Ron," the girls replied and they head into the Girl's Dormitary with the other girls. Once they went up the case of stairs, they found themselves in a beautiful round room that had pink-covered beds with bed side tables and a small stove heater in the centure.
All their belongings were in place on the beds. Cass and Jenny went to the beds that were next to each other with their belongsings. "These beds are so soft and cosy," Jenny coced as she touched the blanket covers and sat on the bed.
"I know right?" Cass agreed as she took a seat on her bed.
"This'll be so comfy to sleep in all years,"
Jenny saw Hedwig rattling in her cage so she picked the lock and let her out. "I told you, I'd let you out," Jenny reminded her owl who chirped happily.
"Hello Hopper," Cass greeted as she let him out of his little reptile box. He leaped into her hands and croaked. Cass kissed his head.
"Eww!" Lavender fro mthe other side of the room grimanced. She was unpacking her stuff unitl she saw the pet kiss. Cass looked at her offended.
"Cass, how can you kiss a toad? They're so eww and ugly,"
Thye most certainly are not," Cass argued. "Taods are beautiuf in my opion and they made great pets,"
"But kissiong one's still disgusitong," Parvati next to Lavender agreed looking disgusted.
"Lavender..Parvati,…" Jenny cutting in standing beside Cass. "If Cass loves her toad then you should accept it and not judge it. Try givingtoads a chance, you might like them,"
"It's suppose it's worth a try," Lavender awkwardly answered.
"But we can't always try and like everything," Parvati answered.
The girls dressed up in their nightwear and hopped into bed. They wished Parvati and Lavender good night. Cass and Jenny were facing each other as they lad on their sides in their beds.
"Thank you, Jenny," Casss said gratefull.
"You're welcome, Cass," she replied.
"You know how Ron and I call you, Jen for short?"
"I've never had a nickname before…I quite like that,"
"Well Jen, I'm goanna get some sleep, I'll see you in the morning,"
"Night Cass,"
Cassandra laid her head on her pillow and fell asleep. Hopper fell asleep as well lying next to her head.
Jen sat up a bit on her bed and her diary on her bed side table was taken into her hands and onto her lap. She opened it to where she began writing earlier and continued on.
This afternoon and evening has been so wonderful. I have such wonderful new friends who know all about me including Ron Weasley and Cassandra Lupin. There's also Henry Granger who's so smart and quite nice (in his own way). Hogwarts castle is so magnificent and magical with all the ghosts and the talking pictures. The feast we had so scrumptious. I love my new house Gryffindor. All the students in it are so nice. I just can't wait to start lessons and learn cool spells and magic. I hope my new friends and I can earn enough house points to win the Cup. I bet that this first year might be one to remember once it's done. Time to sleep and dream about what awaits further on.
Jenny placed her first year diary back on her bedside table. She had also placed her father's stag figure and her mother's necklace on the side as well. She said 'goodnight' to Hedwig perching on a stand and soon after lying her head on her pillow, she fell asleep.
