Chapter 11: Shadow Part 2 – Hiding

Shadow was rushing through the Ark, trying to find a good hiding spot. He knew that Black Doom would be very angry at what happened before, and Shadow didn't intend to fight him now. As he continued to run, his younger self started to wake up.

"Who are you?" Young Shadow asked, looking at his older self. Shadow thought furiously, trying to figure out what to do. He decided on the truth.

"Listen kid." Shadow said, looking at his younger self.

"I'm you from the future. I am an older version of you and I've come back in time to protect you. From...someone evil you wants to hurt you." Young Shadow looked at his older self. There was fear in his eyes.

"How about this?" Shadow said, trying to talk as nice as he could.

"You know your name is Shadow. So is it alright if I call you Shade?" Young Shadow paused for a moment, and then nodded.

(Note: From now on, younger Shadow is called Shade, and older Shadow is Shadow. Just to make things easier)

"Alright." Shadow stated, looking around.

"First off, we have to get off of here. It's not safe." Shadow thought where he could go, than he remembered. When he and Maria were trying to get away, they ran to the escape pods. Shadow jumped in, but Maria stayed behind so she could launch Shadow and get him away safely. That's was their escape.

"Get on my back Shade." Shadow said. Shade hesitated.

"Come kid, we haven't got all day." Shadow snapped. Shade climb on and wrapped his arms around Shadow.

As they ran, Shadow tried to think how he didn't remember anything of this day. Surely, when he was younger, he would have remembered all of these events. So why couldn't he?

Shadow shrugged it off. That didn't matter. What mattered was getting Shade away from Black Doom.

Then Shadow froze as something started to come back.

Shadow's Memories

Shadow woke up on a mysterious ship in space. He looked around and saw a man in white coat standing over him. He was scared. Where were his parents? Where were his brothers? The man was leaning down, picking him up. Something was inserted into his arm and he saw a needle. He was slipping into sleep...

Shadow came back, shocked at what he saw. What the hell was that? He didn't even notice Shade tapping his shoulder.

"Shadow, where is my family?" Shade asked, looking scared. Shadow put him down and wondered what to say. He, once again, decided on the truth.

"Shade, you won't see your parents ever again. You're from a different time. Your parents sent you here to keep you safe. But you'll see your brothers again, just under different circumstances." Shadow explained. Shade looked very sad at this news

"My parents are dead, aren't they?" Shade said. It wasn't completely a question. It was more him getting the facts straight.

"Yes..." Shadow said. Shade looked down at the floor, tears welling up in his eyes.

"But think of this." Shadow said quickly, not wanting his younger self to cry. Shadow wasn't use to talking to someone gently, or reassuring someone. But he gave it his best shot.

"Your parents will always be right here." Shadow said, pointing a finger at Shade's heart. Shade whipped away the tears, and gave an attempt to smile. The young hedgehog got back on Shadow's back, and they ran off once again.

As Shadow and Shade continued towards the escape pods, alarms went off and a voice came over the intercom.

"Attention everyone." It was Dr. Robotnik. Shadow cursed under his breath.

"A small black hedgehog has escaped my lab. Do whatever you can to bring it back." As soon as the message was finished, guards came pouring out into the halls. A group of them spotted two black hedgehogs. One was small, and one the other hedgehog's back. That had to be the hedgehog the Doctor mentioned. The other one was a little different. He was black, like the small one, but he had red strips all over its body. They raised their guns and took aim.

Shadow jumped in the air and threw Chaos Spears at them. The guards dove away from the spears flying at their heads, and Shadow ran through them. When they recovered, they ran after him.

As the guards followed, Shadow yelled to Shade,

"Look kid, you're gonna have to keep them off our back. If you concentrate, you can do what I just did." Shade looked at Shadow like he was crazy.

"But I'm only a kid. I can't do stuff like that." Shade insisted.

"Well, you just gonna have to try! NOW CONCENTRATE!" Shadow didn't mean to say that harshly, but Shade didn't get upset. This made Shade concentrate as hard as he could. Suddenly something long and pointy shot out of his hand, hitting one of the guards.

"I DID IT!" Shade yelled, overjoyed with himself, but a spray of bullets just missed his head.

"We can celebrate later. KEEP GOING!" Shadow shouted. They were almost at the escape pods. Shade was keep the guards back with his Chaos Spears, while Shadow punched anyone that got in his way.

Shadow kicked down the door for the escape pod room. Shade got off of Shadow, and they started barricading the door. Just as they finished, someone grabbed Shadow from behind. He wheeled around...and saw Black Doom holding his arm in a vice-like grip.

"Who are you?!" Black Doom roared. Shadow struggled, but Black Doom just held on tighter.

"Tell me who you are?! Why are you trying to save my destroyer!?" Shadow didn't know why he kept deciding to tell the truth, but he could see no way out of this situation.

"That small one is me. I'm that kid from the future. My name is Shadow the Hedgehog and I can't let you kill him." Black Doom glared down at him, and then threw Shadow so hard; he almost smashed through the airship's window.

"HE WILL GROW UP TO BE MY DOWNFALL! HE MUST DIE!" Black Doom yelled, forming a black ball in his hand. He turned to Shade who was cowering in the corner. The ball flew at the young hedgehog, who closed his eyes waiting for the impact.

"CHAOS CONTROL!" Shadow yelled, holding the red Chaos Emerald in the air. Everything froze, except for Shadow. He grabbed Shade and ran for the escape pods. As time unfroze, Black Doom saw his attack fly into an empty corner. He whipped around to see Shadow and Shade inside a pod.

"Later." Shadow said smirking, and threw a Chaos Spear at a switch, flipping it to launch. The escape pod propelled inself into space, flying for earth. Black Doom watched the two hedgehogs zoom away.

"Mark my words, I will find you and you will die, Shadow the Hedgehog." Black Doom hissed.
