Here it is, folks!
"Wha- Wait, where are you going?" Holly yelled ahead to Gail, who had already begun walking down the street, hands shoved into her pockets to protect them from the crisp fall air.
She watched as Gail turned her head and said something in response, but her words were carried away by the harsh wind.
Holly jogged until she fell into step with Gail and asked again. This time, she heard what Gail said.
"Dancing?! You want to go dancing?" She asked incredulously. Gail nodded.
"Like, right now?" Gail nodded again.
"Uh, Gail, as much as I'd love to watch men fall all over you.." Holly began, but Gail interrupted.
"Oh there won't be any guys falling all over me," Gail said, a smirk gracing her lips.
Holly threw her head back in laughter. "HA! Yeah right. We confirmed not five minutes ago that guys are always pining after you."
Now grinning from ear to ear, Gail looked up at Holly with a proud look on her face. "There won't be any men where we're going, Holly. Don't worry."
"What do you mean there wo-" Holly stopped mid-sentence, her eyes widening in comprehension. "Gail, you're not planning on going to a gay bar, are you?"
"Why yes Holly, I am. You look hot tonight! Why not let the other gay ladies enjoy it?" Gail asked, cocking her head to the side to look at Holly. She looked nervous, unsure of herself.
Holly opened her mouth and closed it several times before managing a pathetic "You really think I look hot tonight?"
Gail looked at her like it was obvious. "Sure, somehow even without your glasses, you still give off a sexy librarian vibe. I'm sure there are tons of women who are into that sort of thing."
Holly's stomach twisted with the realization that she really only cared if one person was into that sort of thing- and it was the straight girl walking beside her. Holly chastised herself for caring after all these years what Gail thought of her, whether Gail thought she looked good. She remembered all the time she'd spent in high school trying to look effortlessly beautiful for Gail when they would spend time together. How pathetic, she thought to herself, ten years later and still hung up on the opinions of one straight girl.
"You coming or not?" Gail's expectant voice shook her from her thoughts, and she looked up to find that she had fallen back several paces.
Holly hurried her pace until she was caught up with Gail again. "You ready, tiger?" Gail asked playfully as they approached the club. Holly rolled her eyes as they flashed their IDs and stepped over the threshold into the warmth of the building.
Immediately upon entering the club, Gail made a beeline for the bar, ordering two rum and cokes on the rocks. Holly followed behind, feeling slightly less confident about her plans to make Gail chase her. She brought me to a gay bar to play wingwoman and find a girl for me, for crying out loud, Holly thought as she accepted the drink Gail handed to her.
Gail wasted no time, grabbing Holly's hand and immediately dragging her to the edge of the dance floor. Women of all heights, races, body types and ages were all around them, dancing in time with the beat of the music. Some were excellent dancers, their bodies swaying easily with one another, and Gail could honestly see the appeal. She looked over to Holly, who was stirring her drink and absentmindedly scanning the crowd.
"So what's your type, Holls?" Gail asked. "What should I be looking for?"
Holly's mind immediately processed the use of her nickname, and it made her smile. "Uhh.. I wouldn't say I have a type, necessarily, but I generally find myself attracted to blondes." As soon as it left her mouth, she realized how it sounded, but she couldn't take it back, so instead she took a long sip from her drink.
As much as she hated to admit it, a chill ran up Gail's spine at this little piece of information. She decided to forego the obvious joke and instead resumed her search. "Blondes.. hmm.." she said as she scanned the floor for an appropriate woman. "What about that one over there?" She said, pointing tactlessly at the woman of whom she spoke.
Holly followed Gail's finger until her eyes landed on an undeniably pretty blond who was chatting animatedly to a small group of women on the opposite edge of the floor, her hips swaying as she spoke.
She examined her more closely. She was tall and slightly curvy, her clothes clinging so closely to her body that you couldn't miss her hourglass figure even if you tried. Holly was actually starting to entertain the idea of asking her to dance when she noticed something on the woman's left hand sparkle in the light.
"Yeah, Gail, that woman is married." Holly said, deflating just a bit. Gail craned her neck to confirm this statement, and realized that she did in fact have a ring on.
"Damn, sorry. Didn't catch that." Gail apologized half-heartedly. She suddenly found herself hoping that Holly didn't find anyone here that she was interested in, and she wasn't sure why.
"Didn't catch that?! Gail, you're going to make me get my ass kicked!" Holly said, slapping Gail's arm lightly and shaking her head in disbelief. Realizing that this was going to be a long night, she tipped her glass back, downing the rest of it, and headed back toward the bar, Gail in tow.
"Okay, so that wasn't a good choice on my part. I'll do better, okay? I prom-"
"HOLLY?!" A gaggle of women cut Gail off mid-sentence as they ran up to the brunette and all threw their arms around her.
Gail watched awkwardly as they all surrounded Holly, squealing excitedly. She decided to move a little ways down the bar and order another drink, allowing Holly to talk with her friends.
Twenty minutes and two more drinks later, Gail was feeling pretty good. Holly was still chatting with her friends, and Gail wanted to interrupt, but Holly was smiling and appeared to be having a good time, and she didn't have the heart to stop it.
She pulled out her phone and saw that she had a message from Dov.
D: Where are you? You never came home after work.
Gail rolled her eyes. Her roommates were always concerned about her whereabouts. She knew it came from a place of love, which she would swear up and down disgusted her.
G: Went out with a friend. Be home later.
D: Friend? No really, where are you?
Ugh! That twerp is going to pay the next time I see him, she thought as she typed out her response.
G: Fuck off.
Knowing that Dov wouldn't respond to that if he knew what was good for him, Gail was tucking her phone back into her satchel when she felt a tap on her shoulder.
Finally, she thought. She turned around, expecting to see Holly, but was instead met with another brunette's smiling face. "Hey" was all the girl said as she looked Gail up and down.
Feeling uncharacteristically adventurous, Gail responded with a nod of her head and a short "hello."
"I've been watching you over here and I think that you are extremely gorgeous. I was wondering if you'd like to dance," the girl said boldly, a flirtatious grin on her face.
Knowing that she wasn't exactly sober, but also aware that the girl was ridiculously beautiful, Gail agreed, taking one last sip of her drink and following the woman out onto the dance floor. Why not, she thought to herself, what's one dance going to hurt?
"So Holly, are you dating anyone?" her friend Rachel gushed, leaning in toward Holly to hear the (what she hoped would be) hot gossip.
Holly rolled her eyes. Rachel was constantly butting into her love life. She knew the interest was well-intentioned, but the constant focus on it only served to remind Holly that she had been single for quite some time.
"No, Rach, I am not. I did come here with someone, but she's just a friend." Holly explained, suddenly realizing that Gail was no longer sitting a few seats down the bar. "Who, now that you've mentioned it, has gone missing. She's not even gay, I have to go find her." She hoped her friends would get the hint. She loved them, but they had all clearly been drinking WAY too much, and she had only had a couple drinks, not nearly drunk enough the be dealing with them at their present level of intoxication.
"Fine, fine, but you'd BETTER call soon to catch up. We haven't seen you in for like, ever," Lisa said, her perpetual scolding tone making Holly feel like she was in trouble.
"Yup, will do. See you guys later," she said, standing up and squeezing through them to begin her search for Gail.
The search didn't last long, as Holly found Gail right at the edge of the dance floor dancing with a slightly taller, slender woman who appeared to be of Hispanic descent. The woman was gorgeous, she had to admit, and she moved her body well. It was not, however, this woman that Holly was concerned about. Gail's back was pressed right up against this woman's front, and the woman had her hands placed on Gail's hips as they swayed in a sultry, hypnotizing pattern along with the music.
Not entirely sure how Gail had gotten herself caught up with this woman, but thinking that she ought to help the poor thing out and save her from the hungry lesbians, Holly moved over to where they were dancing and shouted something in the woman's ear so as to be heard over the thumping bass of the song. The woman immediately lifted her hands off of Gail in mock surrender and moved out from behind her.
As soon as the woman had moved, Holly slipped in behind Gail. The blond turned her head around to look at Holly in question, and Holly leaned forward just a bit to speak directly into Gail's ear. "Sorry about that, I got caught up with my friends. I'm just going to hang out back here for a sec until she stops looking over here," she explained. Not wanting to admit that she had actually been having a decent time dancing with the woman, Gail just nodded a bit dazedly and continued dancing.
The problem was that as soon as Holly had begun to dance with Gail, she couldn't stop. The blond wasn't quite touching her, but she was mere inches away, and repeatedly brushed up against Holly as she moved her body from side to side.
Feeling like her brain had no control over her body, Holly's hands came to rest on Gail's hips. She felt the blonde's body between them and decided that if there were to be any time that she would get Gail to be attracted to her as more than a friend, this would be it.
She pulled Gail flush against her and began moving her body with Gail's as though they were one. Tentatively at first, she kept her hands as PG-13 as possible while Gail grinded against her. When Gail didn't move away after several long moments, Holly got up the courage the let loose and really dance with the stunning woman in front of her.
She snaked her hands around Gail's body, laying them to rest right on her hip bones. She pulled her even closer, so that there was virtually no space between her front and Gail's incredible backside. Just as she started to think that maybe she was crossing a line, Gail bent over and put her hands on her knees, all the while moving her ass tantalizingly against Holly's pelvic region.
Oh my god, Holly thought, this isn't really happening. She clearly had a few more drinks while I was talking to my friends, I shouldn't be allowing this to happen.
As much as her brain screamed at her to stop, to move away from Gail, she couldn't. It was magnetism, and she knew that she wouldn't stop as long as Gail was here, doing what she was doing.
Just as she was thinking this, she felt Gail's arm come up to drape around her neck, and her head automatically moved forward and into Gail's personal space, hovering right above her shoulder, inches away from the crook of her neck. She was about to lean even closer, just to see what Gail smelled like, when she was caught off guard by the blond turning around to face her.
Thinking that this was the end, that Gail had finally come to her senses and decided that enough was enough, Holly began to separate herself from the blond, before Gail's hands reached out and pulled her close again, pushing their hips together. Though she wasn't complaining, Holly couldn't quite believe what was happening. Not only was Gail dancing with her, but she was pulling her close, not allowing any amount of space between them.
Holly felt her hands moving toward Gail again, wrapping around her until they came to rest at the small of her back this time. Gail's arms came up to drape over Holly's shoulders and Holly felt a jolt move through her entire body as she realized how close their faces were. How close Gail's lips were to hers.
She thought back to when she was eighteen, staring at Gail's lips before stupidly leaning down to kiss her and in the process scaring the girl and ruining their friendship. She wasn't going to let that happen again, but still she couldn't stop staring at them. They looked kissable. Soft. Plump. Inviting.
LOOK AWAY, her brain screamed at her. She listened, but unfortunately her eyes then connected with Gail's piercing blue ones and she was alarmed by what she saw. Gail was looking at her with an intensity that she wasn't sure she'd ever seen from anyone. Their eyes stayed locked, and every part of Holly's body came to life. Her entire being was humming, her heart beating a mile a minute, thumping against her chest. She hoped that Gail couldn't feel it.
She felt herself being pulled toward Gail and before she knew what was happening, she was no more than four inches away from Gail's lips once again. She began to close the remaining distance between them, realizing that resistance was futile, when the song abruptly ended, effectively snapping her out of whatever Gail-induced trance she was in.
With no music on, their close proximity suddenly became very awkward. Holly hurriedly backed away, giving Gail well over a foot of space as she tried to get her bearings once again. Holly was out of breath, having been holding it the entire time Gail had been looking into her eyes. She blushed deeply and attempted to hide it before realizing that Gail, too, seemed flustered.
"It-It's hot in here, huh?" Holly stammered, trying to act casual. She had noticed that her body temperature had risen quite a bit, and that a light sheen of sweat had appeared on both her and Gail's skin. This did nothing to calm her down, and she quickly excused herself to the bathroom.
As soon as she left, Gail slapped a hand to her forehead. What was she thinking?
That was the thing, though. She wasn't thinking, she was just doing what felt right. Being close to Holly felt right, and she really didn't want to think about what that could mean.
Tell me what you think! Please. :)
