Gildarts return

Natsu woke up breathing hard "it was just a dream." He breathed as he looked around his house

"do you want to talk about it?" happy asked Natsu's eyes widened a little as he didn't realize the little blue cat was staring at him with a worried looked on his face.

"Oh, I was dreaming about food." Natsu smiled to play off lied not wanting to worry the blue cat. Happy seem convinced the two grabbed some breakfast and headed to the guild.

Later At the guild, everyone was talking with each other and for once not starting a brawl just then warren and max burst through the guild doors

"big news!" they shouted as bells started ringing

"what's going on?" Lucy asked, "sounds like bells." Wendy and Carla said confused

"finally." Natsu said with a smile on his face as he could hear some of the long-time members cheering and the bells.

"Gildarts is finally coming home!" Natsu shouted from the roof

"Gildarts is back!" the guild shouted much to the new guild members just looked at the excitement in confusion

"who's Gildarts? Are they in the guild I don't think I ever heard of them before."? Lucy said.

"he is the strongest wizard in fairy tail!" Mira said with a smile on her face

"are you serious I thought Erza and Natsu were top dogs around here!?" Lucy said shocked

"I don't even hold a candle to Gildarts." Erza said smiling

"so, I guess this guy is the king of breaking stuff then." Lucy deadpanned "it is a good thing he's back but I don't understand why everybody is freaking out."

"yeah just look how happy everyone is!" Wendy said.

"it's only natural Gildarts has been gone for nearly three years."

"three years what has he been doing?" Lucy asked.

"he took a century quest as the name implies it is said that the job can't be completed in less than a century."

"who in their right mind would take a job that lasts a hundred years?"

"Gildarts," Erza said simply like it was normal for the man which it was

In the city of Magnolia, all the regular citizens were also preparing for the return of the legendary man as people ran in many directions shouting that Gildarts was back.

"prepare to commence Magnolia's Gildart's shift Citizen please take your designated positions immediately." Said a voice on the city's loudspeakers

"I am all for the festivity but this is ridiculous." Carla said watching the guild going crazy

"what is this a magnolia Gildarts sift?" Juvia asked.

"step outside and find out." Erza said as the tree wizards and one cat step outside the guild as the building started to shift to form a road that went straight to the guild hall.

"Magnolia just split in two!" Lucy screamed.

"it is a precautionary measure for Gildarts crash magic," Erza said.

"yeah since he destroys everything, he touches it's much better for everyone if he stays clear of everyone's homes and business." Mira added

"you modified the town just cause he's clumsy!" Lucy shouted

"he sounds amazing!" Wendy said now understanding everyone's excitement. Then at the guilds, doors, a large man with a brown cape and slicked back orange hair and a stubbly beard walked in but he didn't look all that happy

"welcome home." Mira said with a smile on her face

"sorry to bother you but I am looking for a guild that used to be around here called fairy tail." The man said

"this is it. Remember me Mirajane?" she said pointing to herself

"Mira? How you sure have grown up a lot and you guys sure have changed a lot around the guild!"

"Gildarts!" Natsu shouted running downstairs

"Natsu, now there's a face I recognize." Gildarts said with a small smile on his face

"same old Gildarts." Gray said smiling

"I see a lot of new faces around here too. A lot has happened while I was gone."

"Gildarts how did the job go?" Makarov asked Gildarts just started laughing and rubbing the back of his head

"no good way too much for me." He said seriously that got everyone in the guilds eyes to widen

"no way but that Gildarts."

"he failed?"

"he's joking right." Some of the guild members said in shock

'a century quest was even too much for fairy tail's strongest wizard?' Lucy thought

"the job was to tough." Makarov said with a slight frown on his face

"sorry for bringing shame to the guild." Gildarts said in a solemn tone

"no, you came back in one piece that's no small feat in its self as far as I know you are the only one that has made the journey and made it home alive. Makarov said smiling

"thanks, boss now I am going home to rest for a little bit and start to feel alive…" He said making his way to one of the guilds walls "oh Natsu stop by some time I brought something back for you." Gildarts said as he crashed through the wall of the guild

"you can use the front door you know!" Max shouted Natsu smiled running after him making his own hole in the wall

"one wall breaker is enough!" Warren called after the Dragon slayer

"hey." Natsu said smiling waling into Gildarts rundown house

"hey Natsu." Gildarts said sending a smile back

"it sure has been a long time since I've been here." Natsu said looking around the dusty house

"so, what did you bring me?" Natsu asked

"never mind that for right now…" Gildarts paused and his smile disappeared

"while I was gone, I met a dragon." He said looking away from Natsu " it's not the one you're looking for thought… it was as black as a moonless night."

"where was it?" Natsu said shocked that there were still dragons out there other than himself

"a mountain region to the north that dragon was the real reason I failed on my quest" Natsu clenched his teeth and turned to leave but was stopped when Gildarts spoke again "so what are you going to do."

"isn't it obvious I will go to find him and talk to him," Natsu said not turning to face one of the only humans he feared and respected in terms of power.

"think again that black dragon is probably long gone by now he's out flying in the wild blue yonder," Gildarts said calmly

"I don't care I can track him down if I put my mind to it." Natsu said he was getting frustrated 'why would Gildarts tell me about the dragon if he knew that I would go running after it why would he tell me if he didn't want me to go?' Natsu thought to himself there was another dragon out there a real one this time because Natsu had no reason to doubt what Gildarts was telling him. He wasn't alone in this world anymore there was another dragon out there.

"Natsu look at me!" Gildarts said raising his voice Natsu turned as he removed his cloak the man's chest was mostly covered in bandages, he had a wooden Leg with a metal knee guard and a wooden arm he also had some visible scars on his chest. Natsu's eyes widened and the injuries as long as he had known the man his power was legendary and no one was strong enough to even put a scratch on the man including Natsu in his present condition.

"it was over before I knew what hit me it ripped off my arm my leg then it gutted me…" he spat the last part. "Igneel might be a different kind of creature but I'm telling you that this black dragon is no friend to anyone… there is not a man alive who could beat him."

"look we dragon slayers aren't just called that for nothing you know this dragon doesn't stand a chance for what I'm cable of." I growled angrier at the dragon now as well as myself for saying that when I was not a dragon slayer at all and in my present magic condition, I probably wouldn't stand a chance either if Gildarts couldn't fight a dragon."

"if that is what you believe I'm not going to try and stand in your way." Gildarts sighed Natsu turned and left not saying another word to his friend, and somewhat a human father figure.

"there is not a man that can beat that thing but maybe a dragon can. There is hope for Natsu." Gildarts said to himself as his sighed and sat his wary body down.

Natsu stormed through the town. Natsu wasn't all that surprised that Gildarts couldn't beat a dragon especially if the dragon was full grown now one would really stand a chance the fact that Gildarts was alive and more or less in one piece is a miracle in of its self. But he was angry that a dragon would hurt his friend like that he did know that a lot of dragons didn't like humans but that was beside the point. Natsu shock his head trying to organize his swirling thoughts

Dragons still exist he wasn't the only one that could mean that Igneel was still out there still alive.

"come on come on I got to find him…" Natsu said to himself as he tripped and fell into the river "are you out there Igneel?" he said to the sky he loneliness settling in. he wished to find this dragon but if he did what would he do then? Would he have to fight the dragon? He didn't stand much of a chance now if that was the case and he could say he was Natsu the dragon prince son of Igneel. The dragon would probably laugh at him or would not believe him as most of his magic is sealed and he was stuck in this form. Natsu sighed and angrily kicked a rock which flew and impeded itself into a building.

Natsu magic is deeply tied to his emotions and no matter how much he tried his magic fought to get out with his frustration growing. Natsu found himself in the forest close to his house he sighed he always felt more at peace in nature and away from all the sights, smells and sounds of the human world it helped relax his magic and his swirling thoughts. "why?" Natsu said to no one in particular "why was I left here alone?" Natsu asked looking at his reflection in the river.
