Chapter 11
Delsin arrived at the porta-potty before me, as I had opted to walk instead of fly this time. The moment I arrived was the moment Reggie stepped out of the porta-potty. I took one look at him before speaking.
"Well... now I've seen everything."
Reggie was wearing a grey jumpsuit underneath one of the DUP escapee vests. He approached us with a wide grin on his face.
"What?" Delsin asked in a disbelieving tone.
"What do you think? I mean it was a little bit of a pain to get on, especially in there... smells like somebody had some Thai food... but what do you think? Chase me!"
"You want us to chase you?" I asked raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah yeah yeah, chase me, shoot me... uh, shoot NEAR me!" Reggie quickly corrected. "NEAR ME, then we'll see what happens when one of the Angels shows up."
"Yeah, 'cause we've got a really good batting average with the Angels right now!" Delsin complained, gesturing wildly. "If they take you, man, they take you to God-knows-where!"
"Yeah, I know, okay, but look. You know how you're always losing your phone then you grab mine and find it?"
"Right?" Delsin sounded confused.
"Right, well, we have a GPS link." Delsin's eyes lit up.
"Oh, so you're like a big, ugly tracking device, okay."
"Right, but look, we need this to look real, okay? Not TOO real, just real enough to fool the Angels. Get me?" Delsin smirked as he held up an arm wreathed in neon.
"Oh I could get you right between the eyes."
"No, no, just... don't be a dick." With that, Reggie brushed past us and began running. Delsin's smirk widened into a grin.
"Oh, I'm so going to be a dick." He whispered to me. I couldn't help but grin before taking off after him.
...
"Heads up, here it comes!"
"And, we have liftoff!"
"Hey, follow my phone! And don't be a dick!"
...
Delsin and I stood atop a building as we watched the Angels phase out of a set of TV screens and begin flying towards us.
"Video Angels, I should'a seen that coming," Delsin muttered to himself. I meanwhile, began firing off bursts of brick while Delsin fired beams of neon. Unfortunately, this seemed to be doing little to thin the horde; every time I shot one Angel down, another would appear.
"Where in the hell-" I paused to blast another Angel. "-are they all coming from?"
"Don't look at me!" Delsin replied as he grappled with another Angel before whacking it with his neon-coated chain, destroying it. I turned and fired another Brick Shot. Inwardly, I cursed as it completely missed its target. However, that quickly changed as I saw more Angels pouring out of the screens.
"Aim for the TVs!" I shouted, turning my attention to the Angel-spawners.
...
"Well, I feel fairly confident that I am going to hell for this." I commented as I looked up at one of the screens, which had multiple chunks of brick sticking out of it, while its neighbor had neon-colored burns.
"Same here Marshall, same here. So, where did Reggie end up?" Delsin wondered. I tapped his shoulder, then pointed to Reggie, who was holding onto a lamppost like it was a lifeline. Once he realized the Angels were gone, however, he dropped to his knees with a pained groan.
"Ooh, worst idea ever. Oh, what the hell?"
"I gotta hand it to ya brother, you make excellent live bait!" Delsin joked as he helped Reggie to his feet, only receiving an annoyed look in response. "What, it worked, didn't it? We found the Angel Conduit's 'lair,' now we go take him out! C'mon, you with us or not?" Delsin added, gesturing toward the somewhat-opened hole at the edge of the sidewalk.
Reggie held up a finger as Delsin tried to walk past.
"I'm gonna go take this shit off, then I'm gonna go cry myself to sleep. There has got to be a ton of weird, spiky shit down there, and that - is all you two." He began waddling away, groaning and muttering "oh god."
"Hey, don't walk away mad! It was your plan!" Delsin pointed out. Reggie merely groaned again and continued to limp away.
"So, you ready or what?" I asked, glancing toward the entrance to the 'lair.' Right as we were about to go inside, Delsin's phone rang.
"Hey, Delsin!" Eugene sounded panicked.
"Eugene, wanted to thank you for your help. Found the Conduit's lair and we're about to go inside."
"That's a bad idea-!"
"He's a Conduit who doesn't fight his own battles, how hard do you think he is?" I added, crossing my arms.
"No, no really, don't go in there!"
"Alright, we'll call you when it's over." With that, Delsin hung up and proceeded to lift the cover of the entrance before we both ducked inside.
...
"Okay, so this is where they make Angels," Delsin muttered to himself as we glanced around. The place looked like an old arcade, with game machines everywhere, some covered, and several of them still on, if the glow behind the sheets was any indication. I glanced at a pile of yellow.
"Well, here's a stack of vests, but where's the people who wore them, that's the question."
A sudden yell from Delsin caused my head to shoot up, seeing his body dissolve into blue pixels before being absorbed by a series of computer monitors.
"DELSIN!" I roared, charging forward. With a flash of blue, my vision went dark.
...
I opened my eyes again to find myself standing on a platform sitting amongst what looked like lava; the heat coming off the molten rock seemed real enough. Delsin was standing next to me, looking around.
"Okay, not what I imagined from the outside."
"Definitely not," I agreed before carefully stepping into the vertical beam of blue energy in the center of the platform. I let out a startled cry as I was suddenly launched upwards; Delsin followed suit after a few seconds to try and catch up.
This time, we landed on a floating platform; after a few seconds, pixels of blue energy began appearing and quickly coalesced into the shape of a gigantic Angel.
"Okay, way bigger than I expected." I muttered, staring up at the flying giant before it spoke, its voice deep and echoing.
"I AM 'HE WHO DWELLS,' AND YOU HAVE ENTERED MY DOMINION."
