CHAPTER 11

…..PREDATOR POV…

Dachande was awake long after violet who was breathing in a slow rhythm. He felt his body vibrate as a lasting pleasure filled him to the brim. He had just mated her. Her body language had told him how much she enjoyed it, the way her breathing hitched and her back arched against him as he toyed with her. She had made it clear that she wanted it, yet he couldn't fathom why. After all this time of her pushing his affections off, she had actually begged for him. His father would not be pleased. In fact if he was still on the clan ship then his father would have killed him.

He gazed at the ceiling as he reflected on the event that took place moments ago. She had been trembling beneath him but he knew it wasn't fear. It felt like she was still around him, being so tight and shallow, and he couldn't help but feel the desire for more. He wouldn't act on that desire though for he knew that she had reached her limit with him. Turning his head, he let his eyes roam to see her motionless and asleep. A soft mew echoed in the silence as she twitched. She was dreaming now and he couldn't help but watch. Her form grew smaller as she drew her knees in more. God he hoped he didn't hurt her. She would be aching in the morning, that much he knew but he felt that she would be lucky to even walk. On her skin, dark bruises began to form from where he held her with his hands. Blood was even smeared on her neck from where he bit her. It was a miracle that he had kept his self control, other wise he would have annihilated her completely.

Turning on his side he let a lone finger twirl in hear pale hair that look like a blanket of snow under the moons light. The strands were so soft. Like silk they fell delicately back to the rest when he retracted his hand. She was so beautiful there, curled next to him, and he fought the urge to pull her closer into his warmth. God she invaded his every thought and he couldn't push her away. It didn't mater now however, she was his. Whether she intended it or not, she belonged to him now and he would kill any male that tried to harm her.

He looked back to the ceiling before deciding to sit up and put on his loin cloth. Trying to sleep was out of the question as he still had so much energy. He roamed the room before noticing a small collection of books on a book shelf. Part of his species superior intelligence was from collecting various literatures from different planets, it was how some developed their knowledge in a species language. His index followed a line along the spines of the books until he stopped on one from earth. Macbeth. He had only read a few pages of it, never taking the time to read more, and so he shrugged and opened the book to the first page. He began reading and didn't put the book down until his eyes grew heavy. Being a royalty his father had insisted him to be knowledgeable in various literature. He hated reading, but right now he needed something to do.

He eventually put the book down when he felt his eyes grow heavy and he shifted to lay his head on the pillow. His eyes fell closed and he let his mind slow to nothingness before he fell into a deep slumber of his own.

…HUMAN POV….

My heart was in sync with my foot steps as I trudged through the fallen leaves of the forest. I had left him alone on the ship to work on the computer while I went on a walk. He was surprised that I wanted to go alone but I told him I would stay east and avoid anything of danger. Being with out him made me nervous but it was the only way I could gather my thoughts and relieve stress. My hips ached and my neck burned from a few nights ago. It was great sex but it hurt like hell. My thoughts wandered as I thought back on what happen. I couldn't deny that I absolutely loved it. In one night he made me feel things that I didn't even know existed. I felt butterflies grow in my stomach as I began imagining him inside me. The way he felt, the way smelled, and the way he had moved were all so enticing. I felt my lower regions warm with want as I thought about it. How had I let myself get so close to him like that? I shook the thoughts from my head as I focused on an animal I front of me.

I froze in my tracks to watch it before I crouched down and readied my bow. It was completely oblivious that it had just became pray and I became the predator. I stalked closer to get a better aim on my target while still watching for it to run. My breaths grew deep as I focused and pulled back an arrow. Without hesitation I released and watched it strike the heart as the animal fell over dead. It was so easy now after I realized that I was only making it hard. I retrieved the body and attached it to my waist with some rope. He was right when he said I was becoming more like a yautja. I had began to communicate with him in his own language and even my fighting style had became like his. I hadn't thought much of it but as I hunted more I could feel a less human side come out. It was more prideful and it felt like a second conscience in the back of my mind.

I continued walking and followed a trail of foot prints through the brush. This new animal was larger, judging by the tracks, but I knew it didn't pose a threat. I followed the tracks to a watering hole where I found the herbivore drinking. SNAP, came the sound of a large stick breaking and I tensed in fear as I looked behind me. There was nothing to be seen and I turned back to my target that had disappeared. I sighed knowing that dachande would have scolded me for losing focus. I moved to the waters edge and kneeled to study the mud. It had turned and ran to the north. My finger tapped my upper lip as I contemplated to follow it. I had never been north of the ship so I could have gotten lost easily, then I figured I could ask for Dachande's help. No. this was my hunt and I wanted to do it myself. I was only just getting good at it.

I planned my course of action, I would walk in a straight line so if I went to far I would be able to back track easily. I stood and began following the tracks in a straight line. To my satisfaction it didn't take any turns and I soon found it grazing by a massive tree. I crept closer, slowly and quietly as not to scare it off. Once again I drew back an arrow and slowed my breathing. The tip was bobbing with my every breath as I focused. My brow began to sweat and my heart raced in my chest.

The animal was an elk with antlers that stood a colossal 4.5 feet from its head. He was massive.

My mind couldn't fathom the sight. Of all animals on this planet, this was a fucking elk. From earth. He mentioned once that they would capture various wild life from different planets and use them to populate the game planets, but I never imagined this. My thoughts roamed to a distant memory of when my father had showed me his kills.

FLASH BACK

"daddy, what's that one?" my small index pointed to a large head with large antlers. I was but 7 years old and had taken an interest in the wildlife my father brought back from his hunts. He pulled me close and set me on his lap.

"that, baby girl, is an elk," he explained close to my ear as I took in its image. "he took a couple shots to take down but he was worth it."

My eyes were wide with wonder as I looked at it with an intrigued smile on my face. "he is so big!" I exclaimed with my arms wide open in estimation.

"yes he is. Maybe one day I'll teach you to hunt. But only when you are older." he said and messed up my hair.

"awwww, but I wanna go with you on the next one." I whined and crossed my arms.

"sorry sweetie, but you would only get bored." he said.

"no I wont!"

He laughed and kissed my forehead before shooing me away when his desk phone began to ring. I stuck my tongue out at him in an act of retaliation before skipping off. When he wasn't hunting he was busy running his oil company while mom managed a local realty agency. I lived a good wealthy life with them up until my senior year, the year they died.

END FLASHBACK

I smiled a little at the memory of my loving father before shaking the thought from head to regain my focus. This one was mine.

I wanted it. I had learned that the bigger the kill, the more appealing it was and damn was this bull appealing. My inner yautja was taking over and I was oblivious to it. I straightened my back and held my breath as I drew the arrow back farther. My fingers opened against my will and my eyes watched the arrow hit the animal in the heart. It didn't fall as quickly but it struggled in a last effort to run away. It didn't make two steps before it finally fell dead. A prideful grin formed on my lips as I marched to retrieve my kill. I crouched next to it and pulled the arrow from the depths of its rib cage. When it came free I had fallen back, realizing it had gone deeper than just through the heart. "…that's never happened before." I voiced to myself as I looked at the stained wood of the arrow. The tip still had meat attached to it and I stuck my tongue out in disgust. It was gross. My thoughts turned back to the animal. It was bigger than me and I knew I couldn't carry it myself. No I would be crushed by its weight. I would need his help for this one. I sighed in disappointment and stood, brushing my ass off as I did. I paced over the nearest tree and ripped some of the bark off to help guide me back. I did this to multiple trees as I walked back the way I came.

The wind blew and caused the leaves above to dance. If I wasn't aware of it then I would have believed this planet to be earth. I continued walking, enjoying the breeze. CRACK! I turned and looked around but saw nothing. What ever it was, it was big. I clutched my only weapon tighter in my grasp and stepped cautiously. The sound of feet drumming on the ground filled my ears and I looked around for the source. What was it? I began walking faster towards to pool of water in hopes to have a better chance of seeing the creature if it followed me out. The pool came into view and I couldn't help but smile some as I felt a sense of security there. I broke into a jog and didn't expect what happen next. I tumbled off my path as something heavy hit me and knocked me to the ground. My head went dizzy and I rubbed my temples as I sat up. My vision had blurred but as it cleared I could make out a person.

"violet," their voice came and I was shocked that they knew me. "violet I'm so happy I found you. I thought you died in that ring."

I shook my head to clear my thoughts and contemplate who they were. Gazing at them I began to recognize messy dark hair and brown eyes. "…Nicholai?" I voiced in shock.

"yes it is Nicholai! Come we must get out of here. They are following me." he exclaimed as he looked back over his shoulder to see nothing. He stood and pulled me with him with a vice like grip on my wrist.

"what do you mean?" I asked before he could move.

"those-those things that kidnapped us. They are hunting me, and they will kill us if we don't move." he voiced in panic as he took hold of my shoulders to look me in the eyes. He looked back again when a crack echoed between the trees. "shit." he said and pulled me by my wrist. I was running to avoid the dislocation of my arm as he pulled me behind him.

"where are we going?" I inquired, panicking as he began taking many turns. My sense of direction dwindled to nothing as I realized we were lost in the jungle. My heart pounded in my chest as I began to panic. He never answered my question so I called out, "NICHOLAI!"

He glanced back at me before coming to a stop. "damn it violet we have to find some where to hide!"

"we have to go back-"

"no," he cut me off and continued, "its not safe back there. We have to keep moving." he said and pulled my arm again.

"no we have to go back. I know of someplace safe."

He looked at me skeptically and said, "it. Is. Not. Safe. They will kill us." his voice was a panicked whisper as he annunciated the last letter of each word.

The entire time he didn't release my wrist and I felt my skin bruise against his grip. He wasn't about to let me go. He pulled and we began moving again. I had gave in to appease him as I knew I would only get more lost with out him. Not only that but if he was telling the truth then I would end up dead. At this point I had no choice but to stick with him until Dachande found me or vise versa. He lead me through the dense forest until I could no longer see the sky above my head. It was dark and quiet as we ran, making the setting seem a bit to eerie. My legs were growing tired as they carried me through the rough terrain of the jungle. My breaths were uneven and I felt a growing cramp in my side that forced me to slow down. He looked to me as he slowed but encouraged me to run more. I chewed my lip to fight the pain as I lighted my feet higher off the ground.

I began wondering how long I was gone now and if he had noticed. I felt a pain in my heart as I wondered if he would find me. We should have gone back. God if he would have listened to me then we would be in the safety of the ship. But no, he insisted I follow him. He lead me like a dog and hasn't given me my arm the entire time. I felt suspicion rise in my gut as I stared at the back of his head.

How did he get here?

How is he still breathing?

I had experienced first hand the effects of this low oxygen atmosphere after breathing its air for to long. After that injection, my body adjusted and I was fine. But I highly doubt he was given anything if they were trying to kill him. My insides twisted and I felt nauseous with fear.

Up ahead there was a cave, dark and hidden behind some trees. He slowed and ushered me inside as he kept looking over his shoulder. We moved back into its dark interior until we collapsed with exhaustion. I leaned my head against the wall and breathed deeply. I was shaking and my legs ached. He stared at me and I could here his tired breaths echo mine. I released the bow that was still clasped in my hand and then pushed my hair out of my face.

He shifted some to get comfortable and then watched me with careful eyes. "I thought I would never see you again, violet." he paused and began shaking his head in search of what to say. "I thought you had been killed by Boris. They came and got me and I thought I was going to fight but they just knocked me out and sent me here. I have been running from those things for weeks now until I found you." he moved closer to me and touched my hand. I flinched at his touch, not completely trusting him. "they have ships here. If we can just hijack one with out them knowing then we can get off this planet." he continued and squeezed my hand.

"Nicholai…..why did you bring me here?" I asked, looking at him from the corner of my eye. He looked dumbfounded by my question.

"I don't understand." he said.

"I have been living on one of the ships. I came here with one of them." I explained and he opened his mouth to speak but I stopped him. "if you hadn't dragged me here then we would be safe on the ship."

"no. they would have killed us if we went back. Violet you can not trust them. I don't care what that thing has said, but do not trust it." he said and moved to look me in the eyes. "these…things, they live to hunt and kill us or do what ever they please with us. Tell me you didn't let him touch you." I saw his eyes wander and I reached up to cover my scar when his eyes found it. "what is that? Did he do that?"

"its nothing. I'm fine and he wouldn't hurt me." I said in a more quiet tone as I grew uncomfortable under his dark eyes. They seemed cold, his eyes, and it seemed like he was hiding something. My stomach churned as my gut screamed at me to move away. I shifted some but he stopped me. "let go."

"I am trying to protect you. Please don't make me look like the enemy."

"then do as I say and let go of me." he complied and I pulled my knees to my chest. I needed Dachande here. I never expected this to happen. I was lost and being held hostage by the one I thought to be an ally. He was starting to scare me as he stared at me. "its getting late…" I pointed out and he looked to the caves opening. The temperature in the cave was falling and I remembered I didn't have the jacket I had crafted. I rubbed my arms when I felt them numbing against the cold. Nicholai looked back to me and noticed my shivering. He inched closer and put his warm hands on my arms to warm them.

"I promise I wont hurt you, but staying close is the only way to stay warm." I hated that he said that but I knew he was right. Since I had got here I had watched the weather change as it moved into winter. The air had cooled during the day but at night it was like ice. I moved closer and allowed him to embrace me in his warmth. I was not about to let hypothermia take me.

It was going to be a long night. I was tired but I was to afraid to fall asleep. It was the metal room all over again and I didn't want to fall asleep near him. I was completely vulnerable if I fell asleep but my eyes refused my request to stay awake. I felt my eyelids fall and I pinched myself to stay awake.

"violet, I'm not like the others. You can fall asleep if you want."

His words brought no solace and I fought to stay awake. However I would eventually pass out from exhaustion…

…PREDATOR POV…

She had been gone for quite sometime but he let her be as it was still daylight. He continued working on the computer as he tried various codes to get access to the system. He had done this many times before but only with his wrist computer with him. His wrist computer had the capability to hack into any system automatically but with out it he was stuck with hacking it manually. It was a difficult task but that didn't mean he couldn't do it. He had already gotten access to smaller systems such as navigation, but what he needed was to start the engines and lift off. He sighed as he grew annoyed with the long process.

Dachande wandered to the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water to drink. His throat was a desert and he craved the refreshing clear liquid.

He went back to work for more long and dreadful hours trying every code he knew. The hours passed slowly until he glanced up to see the sky turning a dull pink. It was getting really late and he figured she would be back by now. He paused and thought for a moment. He hated to think of it but something screamed for him to go find her. He stood and marched to his room to retrieve his only weapon before heading outside. He looked to the ground and found some of her faint tracks and followed them east.

He called out a few times but got no answer. She would have answered him. He kept following the tracks until he lost them in the grass. He continued going east until he reached the watering hole. He looked around and called out, "Violet!" still there was no answer and he moved to the waters edge. Looking down he found many prints and with carful observation he found half of her foot print. She seemed to have followed an animal north. He grinned as he realized she was tracking the animal. She had been hunting on her own with out him.

Dachande followed the trail north until he found the body of the massive elk. He new she killed it and he new she wouldn't be able to carry back alone. A feeling of pride rose inside him as he never imagined her to be able to take down such a large animal. He inspected the body and determined it was killed about 4 hours ago, based on the clotted blood. He looked around until his eyes fell to a tree with a layer of bark missing. It was not torn by an animal, no he knew she was marking her trail. If he knew her well enough then it was safe to say she intended to come get his help…..but she never came. It was here that everything went to shit. A pain grew in his abdomen as he began to panic. She had gone missing.

He looked around for more clues until his eyes fell on wide spaced tracks made by another human. The spacing indicated they had been running, but from what. He followed them until they met with violets. Based off the scattered steps made by her, he could tell she had lost balance. This other human must have ran into her. His suspicion was confirmed by a crater in the shape of a body. He could make out the shoulders and hips and even where her heels had cut into the ground. Upon further inspection, he could see her tracks resume with the other males until they had both been running. A low growl vibrated through his chest as he began worrying that what ever the other human had been running from, it was now chasing her as well. He kept following the tracks until he realized nothing had been following them. This humans intention was clear to him now that they had intentionally lead her away. Otherwise she would have came back to him. He began to pray that she was ok as he grew more frantic.

A tinge of guilt rose inside him as he felt this partially to be his fault. If only he had gone with her….

He had let her have her way when she requested some time alone, but he still knew she wouldn't stand a chance if a bad blood had found her. He growled a low and angry growl at the thought them harming her. He would kill them all if they touched his mate. But right now he his sights were set on this extra human.

He continued searching until night fell and he was surrounded by pitch blackness. He hated to stop but he couldn't track her scattered steps in this darkness. Well he could, but only with his biomask which had been confiscated by his father. Damn him. Everything was so easy with his gear, but now it was even harder to hunt. He sat perched up in the safety of a tree as he waited for daylight to come again. As soon as he could see, he would continue the search for his mate. She belonged to him and he was convinced of that.

THE NEXT DAY

….HUMAN POV….

My eyes snapped open as I realized I had fallen asleep and I inhaled deeply as I looked around, remembering where I was. The smell of burning meat had filled my nose as I looked over to see a small fire with a small animal roasting above it. It was the one I had attached to my waist and I knew he must have taken it while I was out. I was ready to yell at him for stealing my kill but my stomach stopped me with a low grumble. Nicholai looked at me when he realized I was awake and he held out a burnt leg of the animal for me to eat. I contemplated it before taking it and began to take small bites with caution. Light had filled the cave and I couldn't help but stare out to the wilderness beyond.

"we should keep moving. They will only find us faster if we stay in one place to long." his voice came between chews. I glanced at him from the corner of my eye to see him focusing on his meal.

My hand roamed to my side where I had last left my bow. It wasn't there and I glanced back to him with suspicion. "Nicholai?"

"yes?"

"where is my bow?" I asked, demanding an answer and he just looked up to me. His eyes seemed to hold secrets and they made me feel uncomfortable.

He looked down to his food before wiping his mouth clean and glancing back to me. "I took it with me when I went to search for wood for the fire." he informed and motioned to the flames that warmed the area. "sadly I fell and it snapped in half…. I'm sorry, I should have asked you first." somehow his words didn't seem true and clenched my teeth behind closed lips. I was defenseless now.

"why didn't you take me with you?"

"hmm?" he voiced and I repeated myself. "oh well you were out like a light and I didn't want to wake you."

I doubted that. I stood up and brushed myself off, looking to him to follow. "we should keep moving right?" he nodded and I began following him after he put out the fire.

I watched him from behind as we walked, expecting him to try something. Something just seemed way off about him and I began thinking back to when we were in the small room with the others. He had once said that he was falsely accused of murder because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Those words began to haunt my thoughts as I believed them to be a lie. Every one else had murdered and seemed proud about it, but him….

Boris was scary, terrifying even, but Nicholai seemed much worse now. My heart was pacing quickly and my breaths had began to shake every now and again when he made a sudden move. Some how I felt he intended to get me lost and I couldn't fathom why. He had to have a motive but I couldn't figure it out. We walked farther and farther and I didn't stop watching him. My eyes were locked on him and my hands had clenched into fists. My gut told me not to even consider attacking him but I was ready if the need came. The terrain had turned rocky and I began taking light careful steps to avoid rolling my ankles. We seemed to walk for hours until we stopped at a pool of water to rest.

I walked to the edge of the water and splashed water into my face and watched his reflection appear above mine. His hand touched my shoulder and I flinched. I couldn't hold in my suspicions anymore and thus opened my mouth to confront him. "you have been lying to me the entire time haven't you?"

He looked to the sky and sighed. "are you really doing this? Did that fight make you go mad?" he said and went to grab my arm but I pulled away. "don't do this. If you trust me then I will get us off this planet," he stopped and moved closer to me until I could feel his breath in my face. "all you have to do is trust me."

"you once told me not to trust anyone…that is the one piece of advice I took from you."

"so you don't trust me?"

"everyone in that room was brought together with one connection…..they were murderers." I voiced and side stepped to get away from him. "My only question is why were you there?"

He threw his hands into the air and said, "I told you! I was falsely accused of murder!"

"im fairly positive they would have known that." I retorted and watched as he followed my every move.

"and what about you? Hmm? You never said why you were there." he said.

I stared at him in the eye for a moment. "a man was about to attack me, knife drawn and everything. I was pinned to a wall when I saw a net flying at us. It hit him causing him to make me hit my head and I passed out." I voiced and observed his expression. It was blank and so I continued, "I was there purely by coincidence, nothing more."

"or were you…"

"where are you going with this?" I questioned.

"violet," he said, "you are wrong to think that it was all murderers in that room. Yes there were killers there when you woke up….but not before."

"what are you saying?"

"before you woke up there were druggies and even ufc fighters. It was only the murderers who made it so far."

"you mean to tell me they abducted anyone they pleased?" I asked in shock as I realized I hadn't been there by coincidence. I was abducted purely for added thrill in the game.

"that's what I was told but don't quote me." he replied with a shrug. "some of them were just rapists and I kept them away from you." he moved closer and opened his mouth to speak once more as his hand travelled to my chin, "the least you could say is 'thank you'"

I glared at him before turning around and saying, "stay the fuck away from me." I had it in my head to ditch him and find Dachande on my own using my own tracks, even though I hadn't left many as I was stepping in thick grass and leaves. I began walking when his voice halted me.

"you're only going to get lost! I have lead us in circles so it will take forever to find your way back." my eyes grew in shock. How could I be so stupid? I should have known we had been traveling in circles. It was the only explanation as to why I lost my sense of direction.

I turned around with a clenched fist and marched up to him. "you so of a bitch!" I growled and punched him. His head whipped to the left when my knuckles made contact with his jaw, dislocating it in the process. His hand traveled up and relocated the mass of bone with a sharp click. He moved it around before looking to me with his cold dead eyes. I gasped when he punched me, making me collapse to the ground. I looked back to him only to see his foot coming at me. He kicked me in the chest and the air left my lungs as I fell back.

"you are a fucking bitch." he snarled and I let out a cry of pain when he fisted my hair and yanked my head back. My hands traveled to the top of my head in an act to relieve the pain. I could feel my hair bulbs disconnecting with my dermal papilla, the blood supply to my hair. He looked me in the eye and then slapped me, leaving a crimson mark on my cheek. My eyes watered and I watched him pull a syringe from his back pocket. The needle was large and I began to panic as it came close to my jugular artery. I had no idea what it was and I sure as hell didn't want it in me. I began to squirm and he shook my head to force me to hold still. The needle pierced my neck and I began to fall victim to dizziness. He had released me and I stumbled to stand as everything began to spin and tilt. I was fighting the serum that coursed through my veins as I shook my head and pinched my arm to stay awake. I was falling unconscious as a blackness began to obscure my vision. The light was fading quickly and I looked to him one last time. A malicious grin had spread across his face and his left hand continued to hold the syringe. I fell to my knees, and then to my side before I finally passed out.

How the actual fuck was I able to think I could trust him….
