Chapter 11

Three weeks passed and in those three weeks Livie and Reid became closer than ever, they finished each other's sentences and became so in sync everyone found it amusing yet romantic at the same time. They described it as if the though the two of them were magnets; if Livie moved, Reid moved. If he moved, she moved and even if they were focused on something else they were both as consciously aware of each other as they were of themselves.

Outside the office they continued to see each other. Every night Reid came round to watch a movie with Livie and Sophie and once Sophie had gone to bed the two of them would just talk for hours on end before crawling into the bed to curl up beside each other and sleep till light crept into the room and it was time for Reid to leave. After the first morning when Sophie had caught them together they had decided they didn't want a repeat of that so they were very careful making sure Reid was gone long before Sophie awoke.

Reid and Sophie were getting on exceptionally well now and Sophie looked forward to him arriving each night for their Disney movie and would rush to open the door for him when he arrived before dragging him into the apartment and over to the sofa where Livie would be waiting and Reid loved to see the smile she gave him when he walked in, he treasured the memory of each one as though they were diamonds.

Sophie herself was getting more and more confident, she loved playing with Henry and Jack and got more and more comfortable staying with Jessica, Will and Garcia and everyone adored her. JJ said that Will had started hinting that he wanted a little girl now and JJ was having a tough time saying no after spending lots of time with Sophie.

The team had just returned home from a trip to Georgia to catch a murderer who had murdered five women over the course of two weeks. It hadn't been easy but they had caught him and now they were eager to be home. They had just arrived back at the BAU and as the elevator doors opened they were greeted by Garcia and Sophie waiting in the bullpen for them and Sophie ran excitedly over Livie who grinned as she lifted her up for a hug murmuring "hey kiddo" before she set her down and watched her run to greet Reid who grinning produced a bar of chocolate from apparently no where to present to her making her giggle excitedly.

"Hey how was the trip" Garcia asked as she hugged Morgan excitedly "urgh long" he grumbled "I am so glad to be home". "How was Sophie" Livie asked as she set her bag down "an angel as always" Garcia said and Sophie smiled sweetly and they all chatted for a few minutes before deciding to head home.

"Livie can we watch another movie tonight" Sophie asked eagerly "yes little one" Livie said gently "don't we always". Sophie grinned; "Is Spencer going to come too" she asked innocently. They both froze as the rest of the team looked up interested "Spencer is watching Disney movies" Morgan asked with a glint in his eye "yeah" Sophie said as Livie and Reid stood there frozen in shock "he comes over after work and watches movies with us, he and Livie have cuddles"

"Wow kids say the weirdest things huh" Livie said placing her hand over the little girls mouth causing Sophie to frown and squirm away "it's not weird it's true" she protested "isn't it Spencer"

"Um" Reid stammered and Sophie scowled "it is true, he cuddles up to Livie and she cuddles him and he plays with her hair" she looked at Livie who looked slightly mortified whilst Morgan and Emily were grinning like Cheshire cats and JJ and Garcia were shaking with laughter at Livie and Reid's expressions. Even Hotch and Rossi looked amused.

"Hey Sophie what else happens" Morgan asked and Sophie frowned thinking "they go to get more snacks and it takes them a long time, once I saw them kissing like my mommy and daddy used to". In sync as always Livie and Reid both blushed beetroot red. Looking delighted at the information he was finding out Morgan bent down in front of Sophie and Emily followed her eyes sparkling "uh huh" Morgan said "anything else".

Sophie shrugged "sometimes they go cuddle in bed" she said "I got up early once and saw them together when Spencer was supposed to go home". "You know I dreamed once that I was naked" Livie commented "that was much less embarrassing than this". Morgan beamed and held his hand up to Sophie who gave him a high five "thanks kid" he said "that is the confirmation that we needed".

He stood up and turned to Livie and Reid who both had their heads ducked shuffling their feet "you two have been seeing each other" he questioned "um" Reid stammered looking up.

"You spend nights together" Emily piped in "um" Reid managed for a third time not seeming able to say anything else, Livie just kept her head ducked. "Ok let me get this straight" Morgan said "you two have been seeing each other for three weeks now and you honestly didn't think we suspected"

"Um … I …er… wait what" Reid said "you knew" "course we did" Emily said "we are profilers dumbass, we knew as well as we did when we knew JJ was seeing Will and didn't tell us". Livie lifted her head smiling shyly "really" she said "yep" Rossi said "come on kid it was obvious, the long handholds, the meaningful gazes, the longs disappearances together" "Ok ok" Livie said "we get the picture".

She looked at them all "you really all knew" she questioned and they all nodded at her "congrats kid" Morgan said "you two look good together". "Yes it is so cute" Garcia gushed as Emily and JJ nodded grinning and Livie smiled looking at Reid who was still smiling guiltily. "So what now" he asked and Hotch stepped forward "you have done good to hide it" he said "meaning the rest of the office including Strauss doesn't know and we will help you keep it that way as long as you stay professional". Livie and Reid looked at each other before they nodded simultaneously "we can do that" they said in unison and everyone smiled.

"So are we going to home to watch a movie" Sophie demanded and they all looked down to see her staring up at Livie impatiently. Livie grinned "yes sorry honey get your things together then and thank Penny for looking after you". As Sophie rushed off to do that she looked at Reid "are you coming back to watch some Disney movies tonight then" she asked and he nodded and grinning she turned to collect her stuff and thank Garcia.

"Hey" Morgan said coming up beside Reid who looked at him "you take good care of her kid" he said "she is a special young lady and she has been through a lot, I trust you not to hurt her". "Never" Reid whispered "how could I… I feel like she is the only one who understands me". Morgan nodded and clapped him on the shoulder "yeah you are a lucky guy kid" he said "now get out of here".

Smiling he watched the young genius slip over to Livie and Sophie and the three of them headed towards the elevator. As they did so they saw Livie slip her hand into Reid's and squeezed it gently. He looked over at her and smiled a truly happy smile which she returned before they slipped into the elevator and the doors closed.

Still smiling Morgan looked over at the others who were grinning back at him. "Man JJ you really did strike gold choosing her" he said and JJ grinned "nope I am just the most amazing matchmaker there is" she teased "now I have to head home to Henry, see you all tomorrow". And with that they bade each other goodnight and headed down to their cars.

It was a week later that Livie was called into Hotch's office early one Thursday morning. No one could understand why she had been called in and there was a lot of guessing going round the bullpen as they settled themselves down for the day. "Were you two caught making out in the coffee room again" Morgan asked and Livie scowled at him as Reid reddened "no" she said "and technically we haven't been caught at all". "I caught you" Emily said "yeah but you know" Livie pointed out and Emily shrugged "still what if I had been someone else". "Yeah yeah" Livie said before looking up at Hotch's office "well wish me luck guys, Sophie be good and you are in charge" "yay" Sophie chimed making them all laugh as Livie jogged up the stairs to Hotch's office and knocked on the door before disappearing inside.

Hotch looked up as there was a knock on the door and Livie slipped in. "Hey you wanted to see me" she asked smoothing her blouse. Hotch nodded "yes take a seat I won't be a moment" he said as he bent his head to finish reading one of the reports from the last case.

When he was done he looked at the young profiler who was playing with the end of her ponytail. "Did I do something wrong" she asked "did someone find out about Spence and I". "no no you haven't done anything wrong" Hotch assured her "it is just I got a phone call today". She eyed him warily "from social services" he continued and her eyes widened with realisation.

"They found a couple living in Stamford who is interested in adopting Sophie" he said gently. "They have run all the checks and think they are perfectly suitable. They are a young couple who cannot have a child of their own, the husband is a doctor and his wife works from home so will be there for Sophie". He looked at Livie who hadn't spoken; she just sat there staring into space. "Livie" he said gently and her eyes focused on him "this is good, she will have a family who can take care of her and help her move on, and you knew she wouldn't be able to stay with you forever".

"Yeah I knew" Livie whispered "I just…. Stamford is so far away and I was hoping she would be closer so I could still see her". Hotch nodded "I think we were all hoping that" he said gently. They both looked out the window to where Sophie was standing next to Reid's desk showing him to care for her toy ponies and he was listening and copying her with a smile on her face. "Do you need help telling her" Hotch asked and Livie shook her head "no I can do it" she said "when is she leaving". Hotch sighed "the couple is coming up this weekend so that they can meet her, they will take her out and spend time with her and if they like her they will decide when they want to take her back then. They are driving up tomorrow and the social worker is going to bring them here when they arrive". Livie nodded "so soon" she murmured and Hotch watched her impressed with how her resolve held.

"I guess I should go break it to her" Livie said "and Reid wow those two are close". Hotch smiled "take some time out of the building if you think that would be easier" he said "or you can use my office". Livie nodded before she slowly headed to the door and slipped out and Hotch watched her walk back towards here desk before he sighed; they had all gotten really attached to that little girl and judging by the way all his team members were playing with her, Livie wasn't going to be the only one sad to see her go.

Livie moved towards her desk wondering how it would be best to approach the subject with the happy little six year old who was watching Reid make a camera roll canister fly across the room by apparently using 'magic' but she knew it was just a bit of science. She ducked as one shot towards her narrowly missing hitting her on the head before she gave Reid a look making him sheepishly grin at her before she rolled her eyes. "Ouch think you will pay for that tonight kid" Morgan joked and Livie smiled.

"So what did Hotch want" Emily asked and Livie's face saddened before she looked at Sophie who was looking at her expectantly. "Tell you in a minute" she said softly before she headed off to the break room for some coffee. As she slowly prepared the cup she heard someone come slowly up behind her and then Reid was beside her. "What happened" he asked concerned and Livie sighed "the social worker called" she said quietly "they found a family interested in adopting Sophie". "Oh" Reid said quietly and glancing up Livie saw that he looked quite sad "they live in Stamford" she said "so it isn't like we can visit every day. They are coming to meet her tomorrow". "So soon" he said looking crestfallen and she nodded before she moved over to the entrance to the break room so she could see Sophie playing with Morgan's toy helicopter laughing as it zoomed round the bullpen.

"I don't want to say goodbye to her Spence" she whispered "I don't want her to go… I want to keep her forever". Reid didn't know what to say so he gently rested his hand on her shoulder and she lifted her hand to rest on his before she took a deep breath "I guess I should go tell her then" she murmured and she gave his hand a small squeeze before she lifted up her coffee mug and headed back into the bullpen. She could see Hotch watching from his office and she wondered if she should take him up on his offer and use his office. She decided against it; she didn't want to isolate Sophie and worry her.

"Livie look at Morgan's helicopter" Sophie cried as it zoomed low over Emily's desk making her grab for her papers to stop them flying away. "Oops sorry Emily" Sophie giggled "Spencer look" she cried as Reid came in and he leapt backwards to avoid the aerial attack "um yeah nice helicopter" he said dodging round it back to his desk.

Forcing a smile onto her face Livie moved over to Sophie and once the helicopter had landed she gently took the remote out of Sophie's hands and set it on the desk "Sophie honey I need you to listen to me for a minute ok" she said gently and Morgan and Emily looked up hearing the sadness in her voice.

"Ok" Sophie said smiling at her before she saw the sad look on Livie's face "what's wrong" she asked. Gently Livie rested her hands on her shoulders and crouched down in front of her. "Sophie" she said gently "you know how after we rescued you I said that you could come live with me for a little while". Sophie nodded "yeah and I like living with you Livie" she said as her eyes searched Livie's face for answers "what's wrong" she asked again and Livie sighed "honey the agreement was that you could come stay with me until some people found you another home with a nice family who could look after you and the people found you a nice family Sophie".

Sophie frowned and everyone watched her trying to judge how she was feeling "so the family is going to come take me away" she said as her bottom lip quivered slightly "I won't get to live with you anymore". "That's right honey" Livie said "but don't worry I am sure they are really nice people, they are coming to meet you tomorrow and they are going to take you somewhere nice for the day". "Will you and Spencer come" Sophie asked and Livie shook her head "no honey I have to work and you need to meet them on your own like a big brave girl because you are going to go live with them"

"But I don't want to live with them I want to live with you" Sophie pleaded "I don't wanna go Livie". Everyone could see Livie fighting to hide her tears as she touched Sophie's cheek "I know sweetheart I don't want you to go either but you have to go Sophie you have to move on and have a new family" "so they'll be my new mommy and daddy" Sophie asked and Livie shook her head "no kiddo your real mommy and daddy cannot be replaced but they will look after you like a mommy and daddy".

"Why can't you do that" Sophie asked and Livie smiled weakly "I can't" she said "I am not allowed and trust me Soph it will be better for you to go to this new family yes". Sophie stared at her and her lip began to quiver again before her eyes filled with tears. Instantly Livie opened her arms and Sophie leaned against her crying gently. Looking round Livie saw that everyone was watching her sadly; they didn't want to watch Sophie go either Livie could see but they didn't have a choice.

Slowly she straightened up lifting Sophie into her arms and she carried her up the stairs towards Hotch's office. He must have seen her coming because he opened the door for her and stepped back to allow her in. Livie nodded her thanks and carried Sophie over to the small sofa in the corner of the room and sat her on it before she crouched in front of her.

"Hey hey Sophie shh" she soothed "it's going to be ok honey I promise". She hugged the little girl until her tears stopped then she gently encouraged her to look up "Sophie this is a good thing" she soothed "you are going to get a whole new family who will spoil you rotten and we will still talk I promise, you can call me whenever you want and the rest of the team too I promise". Sophie stared at her miserably "you promise" she whispered and Livie nodded "of course I do" she said and slowly Sophie managed to stop crying.

"Good girl" Livie said "now are you going to be ok meeting the family tomorrow". Sophie nodded quietly "that's my girl" Livie said "they really want to bring you into their family Sophie, they want to look after you because they can't have children so they want to look after a little girl like you who has lost their mommy and daddy" "will I have to call them mommy and daddy" Sophie asked "that is up to you kiddo" Livie said and she hugged the little girl tightly for another few minutes before slowly she stood up and headed back down the stairs with Sophie to find the rest of the team including JJ, Rossi, Hotch and Garcia all standing in their bullpen looking forlorn. Toys that were scattered around the desks lay forgotten as they absorbed the sad information.

When they saw Livie and Sophie returning they all forced smiles onto their faces and tried to be enthusiastic for the young girl. "Don't you worry" Garcia said to them all as Sophie sat quietly in the corner drawing on some paper "I hacked into social services' files and I found out who the couple are and I am running checks on them, everyone they have ever been in contact with and everyone in Stamford". Everyone smiled at that and Morgan looked at Livie "you ok kid" he asked and Livie nodded "I always knew I wouldn't be able to keep her" she said "I just thought I might get her for longer than this". They all nodded understandingly.

The rest of the day passed slowly and when it was time to head home Livie, Sophie and Reid did so in silence not knowing what to say. Once they arrived back at Livie's apartment Sophie moved quietly off to her bedroom and Livie watched her go sadly before she looked at Reid and dragged him over to her sofa. Once he had sat down she curled herself up against him and he wrapped an arm around her holding her tight as she cuddled up to him. They remained there for around half an hour just savouring the contact before Livie slowly untangled herself and ordered a pizza. She looked at Reid "do you want to get some snacks ready" she asked "you know where everything is". He nodded and headed to her kitchen as she headed off towards Sophie's room.

Livie knocked gently before she pushed the door open. Sophie was sitting on the end of her bed holding her two favourite ponies that Rossi had gotten for her. "Hey" Livie said "I ordered a pizza and you are going to miss our movie kiddo come on out you come". Sophie didn't move though; she just sat on the bed stroking the ponies. Livie gave a small sigh before she slipped into the room to sit beside the young girl "come on Sophie talk to me" she said "what is wrong". Sophie looked up at her "will I get to take these with me" she asked holding out the two ponies and Livie stared at her "of course" she said "you get to take whatever you want from in here sweetie, this is all yours what am I going to do with all your toys, and you can take the Disney movies". "What about Spencer's Disney education" Sophie asked and Livie smiled "don't worry I'll make sure he sees all the good ones" she promised.

Sophie bit her lip looking around before she looked back at Livie "this is a good thing" she asked and Livie nodded "a very good thing" she promised hugging the little girl tightly. "Now" she said "why don't you go choose a Disney movie and set it up". Sophie nodded and slowly slipped out of the bedroom grabbing Shadow on her way out.

Livie followed quietly before she sighed. She was going to miss Sophie an awful lot but Sophie had to move on. Livie and the team were reminders of what had happened to her and how she had lost her mother. It would be better for her to move on. And Livie wanted whatever was best for Sophie.

I finally saw Zugzwang last week. Holy hell I scared my brother because I was crying so hard. Poor baby Reid. Now I want to give him a happy ending more than ever.

I am in India over Xmas and New year on holiday so if I don't update it is because I don't have internet not because I have forgotten you. If I don't update before have lovely Christmases.
