Throuple?
The Host Club was full today.
I sat on my usual loveseat, next to Haruhi, pretending to be just another student entertained by her. On the armchairs next to me where some other girls, from different classes, their eyes fixed on Haruhi as she engaged all of them in conversation effortlessly. I hadn't seen the twins since we left the classroom, they had told me to come here after class and then disappeared.
"Mitsuko-chaan... Do you have a minute?" A voice said behind me. It was Neko-sempai.
"Neko-sempai! You shouldn't creep behind people's backs." I said, as I saw all the girls around me quiet down and leave in fear. "I'll be right back." I said to Haruhi, who was the only person that remained after Nekozawa made his appearance.
"Okay." she smiled pleasantly, she was so nice!
The "Black Magic Club" was as dark and empty as I remembered. A single candle was the only source of light in the room, and still Nekozawa cowered from it. He probably lit it for my comfort.
"What's the matter, Neko-sempai?" I was actually in a hurry to go back to the club, since the twins had told me to wait for them there.
"Mitsuko, shouldn't you stay away from that club altogether? I fear for your safety around those twins." he said.
"Neko-sempai, there's something you should know. They didn't push me into the lake, the ice cracked and I fell."
"What? That can't be! I know what I saw!"
"Sempai, I remember now. Maybe the sun was in your eyes."
"NO!" he grabbed my shoulders. "Those twins are dangerous, you should stay away from them!" his hold was starting to hurt.
"N-neko-sempai, you're hurting me."
He didn't listen. "Please promise me you will stay away from now on. Please..." his hold on my shoulders definitely hurt now.
"Sempai, stop!" I tried to fight his hold on me. Only then, did he notice what he was doing. He took his hands off me.
"I'm so sorry, Mitsuko-chan! I didn't mean to hurt you."
"Neko-sempai. I think it's better if I go. I don't need you to protect me, I'm not sick anymore." With that I got up and started walking towards the door.
"Mitsuko-chan..." was all I heard from him before I left the room and closed the door behind me.
...
Back in the Host Club, there was still no signs of Hikaru and Kaoru. Haruhi was once again surrounded by girls, so I decided to have some cake from the desserts table. There, as always, was Honey-sempai eating dangerous amounts of sweets.
"Hi, Mitsu-chan! Would you like some cake?" he cheered.
"Sure." I said. But just as I was taking my first glorious bite of black forest cake, noise from the center of the room caught my attention.
"Hello, everyone! We have a big announcement for you!" Hikaru and Kaoru's voices resonated across the room. What were they up to?
"That's right everyone, gather around!" Hikaru said.
"Big announcement!" Kaoru said. I went to Haruhi, maybe she knew what was happening.
"What is going on, Haruhi-chan?"
"I have no idea. Let's just stand in the back of the crowd. It's probably something dumb." she said, looking part-amused, part-annoyed. So we stood in the back of the crowd, while all the other girls gathered in a circle around the twins.
"Hirasawa, Mitsuko. You are needed at the stage." they called in mock-robotic voices. What was going on with those two? I looked at Haruhi, but she seemed as clueless as I was. I humored them, and made my way slowly to the center of the circle.
"There she is!" Kaoru said. He grabbed my hand and positioned me between him and Hikaru.
"This is Mitsuko! And she is-" Hikaru started.
"Our girlfriend!" Kaoru finished. WHAT?!
"And because we like her so much, we've decided to quit the Host Club. It's been a pleasure spending time with all of you!" they said, and bowed. WHAT?! Cries of despair and dramatic gasps echoed across the room.
Tamaki appeared out of nowhere and started delivering a speach. "It hurts my heart to see these two go, but who am I to stand in the way of true love-" he started. That's when I couldn't take it anymore.
"STOP!" I screamed. Everyone seemed startled by my sudden outburst, and suddenly I was staring in a room full of quiet people, including the two impulsive idiots on both sides of me.
"Hikaru, Kaoru, I really like you both as well. But you shouldn't have to quit the Host Club because of me, you have friends here, and you seem very happy doing what you do." I said.
"So you don't want to be our girlfriend?" Hikaru asked, clearly confused.
"I do."
"But you don't want us to quit the club." Kaoru said.
"I don't."
They hugged me tightly, lifting me up from the floor, "You are so cool, Mistuko." they said. I liked the hug, don't get me wrong, but the audience was starting to make me very uncomfortable. Everyone (hesitantly) started clapping.
"This is the power of TRUE LOVE! Haruhi, come bathe in its glory with me-" Tamaki was so loud.
"No." Haurhi stated from the back. Tamaki retreated to his sulky corner.
"Um.. could you let me down, please? The audience is starting to make me uncomfortable." I whispered.
"Why would we?" Hikaru said.
"You are so light." Kaoru said. They tightened their hold on me. I started fighting their grip, to no avail.
"Haruhi-chan! Help me!" I cried.
Haruhi laughed. "You don't look like you need help, Mitsuko-chan." she said with humor.
And, when I really thought about it, I didn't. I was just where I wanted to be.
...
2 Years Later
I woke up. My alarm clock was very loud, I hit the snooze button and laid back down. The last two years had gone by in a blur, today was graduation day. I stared at the lower ceiling of my room, the mint green painted walls, my desk, my TV. I would miss it all.
I got up from the bed and made my way to the shower. I took in the smaller bathroom of the apartment I have lived in these past two years. It had really been two years since I told my dad I wanted to move out of the main house. Two years since I last saw my mom, I wondered how she was holding up. Every time we spoke on the phone she said she missed me, and that my room was waiting for me when I decided to come back, she sounded sad, but stable. I was never going back to the main house.
I got out of the shower and dried my hair. I put some light makeup and went to the kitchen. Jun was already there, making breakfast. When Jun heard I was moving out of the main house, she asked me and my dad if she could come with me. She helped me clean and cook, but most of all kept me company.
"Morning, Jun."
"Good morning, ojou-sa- I mean, Mitsuko." It was still hard for her to just call me by first my name, as I had asked. "You look beautiful. Are you excited for today?" she said, as she handed me my breakfast. Vegetable frittata with bacon on the side.
"I am. Did you deliver the invitations to my parents?"
"Yes, I did. Are you nervous to see them again?"
"Yes. I don't know what I'm going to say to them."
"Just be yourself, I know they will be happy with your news, and they will support you in every way." She gave me a reassuring smile.
I finished the rest of my breakfast in silence, brushed my teeth and left the apartment. My phone rung as I stepped inside the elevator. I picked up, "I'll be down in one minute."
"Hurry up" the voices on the other side said. I hung up.
Outside the luxurious building, a white limo awaited. I got inside. "White limo? What's the ocassion?" I said, jokingly.
"We're graduating, that's kind of important." Hikaru said, before he kissed me deeply.
After I broke the kiss unwillingly, I spoke, "So it has nothing to do with what happens after?" I asked, as Kaoru directed my face towards his, kissing me. "Oh, that too." he said in between kisses.
These two were part of what made my last two years so blurry. A blur of kisses and touching, and also me trying to take things slowly. Naturally, we applied to the same college, and a week ago we all got our acceptance letters. I hope my parents took the news well.
...
The graduation party the school held was huge. Everyone I knew was there, plus a thousand more people I didn't know. Tamaki and Haruhi had gone abroad together, I knew those two would end up together. They had come back especially for this party. We chatted merrily.
"So, how is life in Boston?" I asked Haruhi.
"The school is great, we got accepted into Harvard-" she started.
"I ASKED HAURHI TO MARRY ME AND SHE SAID YES!" Tamaki interrupted, very loudly.
"He is so rude." I said, ignoring him.
"Yes, and extremely impulsive too." she went along with me. Tamaki retreated, probably to sulk in a corner. Only then, did I notice the delicate but expensive-looking ring on Haruhi's left hand.
"I am so happy for you, Haruhi." As I said this, I felt two pairs of arms snake themselves around me.
"Sorry, Haruhi, we need to steal her from you." Hikaru said.
"We'll be right back, or we won't." Kaoru said with humor.
"That's alright, I'll go drag Tamaki out of his sulk corner." she laughed and we went in opposite ways.
"What's the matter?" I asked them.
"Your parents are here, and so are ours." Kaoru said.
"We sat them in neighboring tables. It's now or never." Hikaru said. Was this a good idea? Telling them all at once? I had met Hikaru and Kaoru's mom, but I hadn't even told my parents I was dating anybody, let alone two guys.
Too late to back down, we were standing in front of them. My parents on one table, the twins' parents and grandmother on the other.
"Mom, dad." the three of us said. We looked at each other, where did we start?
"Mom, dad, these are Hikaru and Kaoru. I'm currently dating them both." the words were out before I could stop myself. Hikaru's eyes filled with humor, and so did Kaoru's.
My parent's, on the other hand, didn't. They seemed in shock. The twins' mom spoke first.
"That's what I love about you, Mitsuko-chan! So small, so delicate-looking, so strong-willed!" she got from her table and hugged me tightly, taking me away from Hikaru and Kaoru. "Exactly the kind of wife I want for my boys! Right, darling?" she pointedly looked at her husband.
"Yes, my love." Mr. Hitachiin was a simple man, he fulfilled his wife's every wish and that made him happy.
"I agree with you, Yuzuha. I think she will do them both good." Kazuha, the grandmother said.
"Wait, what? Mitsuko, please, tell me that this is a joke! You're dating two boys? And these twins, to top it off? You must be joking." My mom laughed uncomfortably.
"The guards I posted outside your building did report you were seeing someone. But I never expected two boys." My dad managed to say.
"I'm not joking mom. We are dating." I said
"Nice to meet you at last, Mr and Mrs Hirasawa!" they shook my fathers hand, my mom stood up suddenly.
"Mitsuko, why are you doing this to me? I haven't seen your face in two years, and now you throw this in my face?" her eyes filled with tears. I hugged her.
"Mom, I love you. I'm not doing any of this to hurt you. This is the path I've decided to take, and you need to respect my choices. Now go sit, we still have some more news." I gave her shoulders a squeeze and, surprisingly, she complied.
"We have all applied to L-College and received our acceptance letters last weeks." Hikaru said.
"Wait, L-College? That's in France! Mitsuko got in? I'm so proud, baby!" dad said.
"Thanks dad."
"When do you leave?" my mom asked.
"Tomorrow." I said.
"What?!" my parents were shocked again.
"I already paid for the tickets." Kazuha said.
"You knew about this, mom?" Yuzuha said. Kazuha just smiled mischievously. (Now I knew where they got that smile from!)
I went to my parents, I hugged them both. "I'm going to make you proud. You'll see." I said.
"Mitsuko, we're already proud. I was wrong to think you were fragile, you are the strongest person I know. I hope you forgive someday, baby." mom said.
"I already forgave you a long time ago, mom. I promise I'll visit often." I kissed her cheek.
My dad hugged me, "Take care of yourself out there, baby. Live your life." he said.
"Mitsuko, would you like to dance?" Hikaru and Kaoru approached us. I turned to look at them, I really loved them.
"Sure." I said, I hugged my parents one last time and went to dance with my boyfriends.
"So, do you know how to waltz as a throuple?" I said. They laughed, wrapping their arms around me.
"Who cares? Let's party!" Hikaru said.
"We only have the rest of our lives to figure it out." Kaoru said.
"I like that idea" I said, as the three of us made our way to the dance floor.
