Lois peeked an eye open, surveying her surroundings as an anoying thumping kept sounding. When did she fall asleep on her stomach? She put a hand to her head, feeling like a small jack hammer was pulsing away inside. Pushing back her loose hair that fell all over her face, every which way during her sleep.
Knock! Knock!
"Ow!" Lois grumbled, hand on head as she cut her eyes toward the bedroom door. "There better be breakfast with this wake up call."
Swinging the door open, Lois' retort died with a closed mouth as Tommy was the one who stood in front of her and not Clark like she assumed. A puzzled look on her face as her eyes scanned to the right and then to the left before coming back to the broad-shouldered guard in front of her.
"Ok, you're not, Clark." She stated obviously with questioning eyes. "Where's Clark?"
"You're boyfriend dressed and left to work a few hours ago." The guard answered simply.
"He's not..." Lois shook her head, not bothering to correct him and spoke mainly to herself as she stepped from the bedroom to see the apartment indeed empty. "And what he just leaves without so much as a smoke signal sent my way?"
So much for fresh starts with a new day, she bit on her bottom lip, realizing Clark was still upset about last night and apparently needing his own space. Lois rolled her eyes, she so didn't want to deal with him taking a page from her own book.
She rounded on the guard who stood there arms crossed, looking intimidating but she didn't fall for the whole macho demeanor. She walked straight up to him, her own arms crossed and giving him a hard look. "So what, he sent you to wake me up instead?"
"I'm here on official business Mrs. Lane. Detective Daniels wants to see you down at the station. It's urgent matter."
"Urgent matter my ass." Lois snarked, feeling annoyed and antsy. She needed to speak to Clark right now, to clear things up between them.
Last night was incredible as unbelievable as that could possibly be. Her and Clark? Who would have thought that was even possible in the realms of existence? As awesome as things were going it came to a not so perfect end of Show and Tell. Not one she chose to participate in, either. Being caught with less or nothing on was nothing new in the scenarios of her life. But as new as crossing certain boundaries were when it came to being just friends with Clark, that was just time in the making. Something just written in the stars. Maybe. And finally happening what felt like a breath being held forever. And her dreams be damned, she wasn't losing without a fight. She had to talk to him.
There was no way she was going with lumber jack here. "Look I have urgent matters of my own to deal with, so you're going to have to give the Detective a rain check for me."
"I'm sorry, Miss Lane, but he said he needs to see you now." The look he gave said there was no room for compromise and him flexing his biceps, in crossed arms, backed up his words.
This wasn't her apartment, and she didn't exactly have access to her own since her life almost ended with a big bang. So no pepper spray or taser in easy reach to use when she needed it and her 140 plus pounds could only do so much to his 220 pounds and 6 foot plus stature before she was soon overpowered. A sly smile secretly spread inside, what she lacked in muscle, her feminine sensibilities made up for in brains.
Her step falsely faltered as she leaned a hand to the end table next to her and the other to her chest. "Whoa, too much excitement...I'm not feeling so well."
She forced her breathing to be rapid, and started to gasp loudly for show. She turned her head to stare at the brute who just stood there and watched her. He didn't seem to be taking the bate. "Well, can you please grab my inhaler from my purse? Or you're going to soon be out of a key eye witness, bud."
Not chancing it being true, the guard walked into Clark's bedroom to grab her inhaler from her purse on the bed. With the guard distracted and his back turned, she quickly shut the door and placed a chair under the door handle.
Lois heard pounds coming from the other side of the door and the handle twisting violently with no give as the guard realized he was dupped. "Miss Lane what are you doing? Miss Lane open the door! Miss Lane!"
Smiling smuggly with a little nod of her head she turned on her heels, grabbed Clark's long tan dress coat off the coat rack to cover her underdressed assemble of tank top and pajama shorts and headed out the front door.
Clark stood in the copy room of the Daily Planet, his hands busied with photocopying some papers but his mind was very much elsewhere. Mostly of Lois. His feelings toward her and what he thought her feels were toward him. Maybe he was wrong. Maybe it was more of the alcohol she was feeling then it was him. Though he seen her drink far more then just 6 beers and was still able to kick his butt in guitar hero. She could have done it blind folded too if she wanted to.
He knew what he felt for her, she was a really good friend, but somewhere along the way, he wanted more. He wanted her, Lois Lane, the once thought thorn to his side. But obviously, he wasn't the only one. What he thought was ancient history between Oliver and Lois, didn't seem so distant, obvious, by Oliver's actions last night. And Lois, what did she want?
Sometimes he thought he knew in those silent moments between them, where words were unsaid and small looks spoke volumes. The touches that never seem to end between them whether a comforting hand to the arm, fingers caressing between passed coffee cups or even her countless punches to his shoulder. Last night he felt it, being with her, kissing her, touching her. He knew inside, what would have transpired between them wasn't some one night stand to be written off the next day like it never happened. Inside he believed, he hoped, he wasn't wrong.
Lois spied on Clark in the copy room through dark shades and scarf wrapped around her head to obscure the view of her face from all recognizing her. From her view on the outside of the copy room, through slightly closed blinds, he looked like he was brooding. That was never a good thing. Lois took a deep breath and let it out slowly as she watched Clark finish his prints and walk out of the room.
She stepped up behind him as he closed the door. "Hey, Smallville, thanks for the wake up call."
Clark spun on his toes, surprised to have someone sneak up on him so easily, but the shock disappearing when he saw who it was. His face scrunching up perplexed by the guise she was wearing. "Lois, what are you doing? You know you're banned from coming to work, right? And hey, is that my coat?"
Lois looked down at her outfit and back up giving him a look, her lips in a smirk. "Really, Clark? I think you would be use to me "borrowing" from your wardrobe by now. And I'm not banned from work, just highly regarded from showing my face here or any public domain."
Clark gave his own scrupulous look before her run of the mouth continued on in usual Lane fashion. "And it's called incognito for a reason. No one will recognize it's me."
She proceed to adjust the black shades covering her eyes, and tucked a loose strand of hair deeper into the white scarf with floral design wrapped about her head and face. Her mouth splayed smugly as what she assumed to be genius on her part despite the thoughts of disbelief going on through the blue-eyed, dark haired, tall one before her. He narrowed his eyes at her, about to retort when the 75 year old mail lady, who was retiring from the Daily Planet next week, stopped next to them on her mail route to deliver some letters.
"Here you go, Miss Lane, got a stack of em' today for ya." The elder Lady's hand shaking as she picked up Lois' mail from her push cart to hand to the younger woman before going on her way.
"And she's blind in one eye." Clark's snarky reply once the mail lady was out of ear shot, his lips now displaying a smug smile that was on Lois' face a moment ago.
"Lucky guess." Lois grumbled snatching the shades from her eyes.
Clark rolled his blues, walking away from her to their joined desks. "Lois what are you doing here?"
Lois followed him and stopped in front of her own to deposit her junk mail as he continued around to his desk. "Well since you weren't at the apartment and Tommy told me you were here..."
"Where are your guards, by the way? Aren't they suppose to keep you in sight at all times?"
"I know where one is and he's getting well acquainted with your room...Ah-hem." Lois looked away from his regarding blues with her words.
"What?"
Lois dismissed his question with a shake of her head. "Nothing...Why didn't you tell me you were coming to the office this morning?"
Clark looked guiltily away, his eyes down as he feigned concentration on the papers in his hands. "It's Monday, Lois. And I didn't know I had too."
Lois felt stupid, she wasn't his mother or girlfriend to be acting as such with the whole 3rd degree. It was just a natural occurring thing between them to call the other when they were on the way to the office, so they could bust the chops of the other's when they weren't at work yet or there on time. Call the other to see what their plans were for lunch or dinner. Call to see what the other's plans were for the weekend. They called or texted each other for just about anything really...If she didn't know any better they seemed to already be in a relationship. Well, minus the horizontal tango, of course.
And when he didn't send so much as a text to let her know he was heading out it felt...it felt wrong.
Lois' face scrunched up in realization of it all but let it go as Clark stood there waiting for some kind of retort on her part but she was at a lost for words. What could she possibly say, it's not like they made up rules on what they contact each other for and when. "Well...no...no, you don't have to...but I needed to talk to you."
Clark not wanting to hear how last night was all a mistake and they should forget it ever happened because she still had feelings for Oliver. Making the day just as crappy as last night turned out to be for him after the part that was interrupted by the presence of one blonde, billionaire, ex.
"Lois, I don't think there is anything to say."
"Well, I think getting to 2nd and 3rd base last night means there's a lot to say, Smallville." Lois quipped, causing Clark to turn beet red and quickly scan around to see if anyone nearby overheard her words.
A few brows were raised, and snickers were heard, all of which Lois ignored and had Clark wanting to strangle that pretty little neck of hers. "Mind saying it any louder? I don't think the whole bulpenl heard it"
Lois rolled her eyes at his low, harsh voice and gave a huff at his retreat. Her hand grabbing his arm, stopping him in place. "Look, I'm not good at these things..."
"Forget it, Lois, I get it." Clark tried again to walk away but Lois' hand against his chest pushed him back in place, as a annoyed expression crossed his face.
"No, I don't think you do." Lois persisted, her own annoyance building up and fear of him rejecting her especially what transpired between them last night was making her very edgy. She didn't know how deep Lana's claws went and maybe he would never get over it. Maybe he would never get over the doe eyed, princess. God, she hoped she was wrong or this fight of hers was going to end in embarrassment.
"See what you're thinking isn't exactly the truth."
"I know...it's Oliver...not me, right?" Clark spat in distaste not wanting it to be true. He was wearing his heart on his sleeve at that moment but he couldn't help it. His eyes were pleading, despite his rough sounding words and her fish caught out of water expression wasn't reassuring him any.
He turned away from her, not wanting her or anyone to see the pain, the anger burning on his face and taking a few steps before stopping at the rawness in her loud, shaky voice.
"I don't want Oliver...I want you, Smallville!"
Clark slowly turned around to face her, she felt exposed and looked so uncomfortable...she looked so helpless. His feet on a pull from some unseen force, stepped him closer to her, not believing what he just heard.
Lois shrugged her shoulders, eyes glassy and cheeks feeling hot as she was on the spot barring her soul, her walls finally crashing down. "I like you, ok? I like you a lot. I think I always have since the day we first met. There was just something different about you from all the other guys I ever dated...But my cousin was crazy about you and there was no way I would ever hurt her..."
"Lois." Clark said her name to get her attention but was just interrupted as the rambling of her mouth kept on full force.
"And there was the constant fighting between us...Well, banter and I enjoyed busting your chops, Smallville...and that was just our thing..."
He stepped closer, still trying to get her attention with saying her name. "Lois."
"Then you were off and on again so many times with Lana..." She smirked, rolling her eyes at the mention of the dark-haired girl. "...everyone knows that tragic act. But then there was Ollie and there just never seem to be-"
"Lois!" He grabbed her by the shoulders, giving her a slight shake.
"What?" Lois voice an octave high as she noticed how close their bodies were flushed together with mind barreling through their history together.
Clark's blues locked onto her hazels and their was nothing he could say, just do. He grabbed his hands around the back of her scarfed head, bringing her face forward as he crashed down his lips upon her own. It felt like forever since he did this, even though it was just last night. He wanted to continue where they left off last night after Oliver left but he was so unsure that she wanted him over their friend, her ex. Now, with what she said to him, there weren't anymore doubts.
Lois kissed him back just as hungrily, her fingers pulling down tightly on the collar of his dress shirt for more access to his mouth. Not realizing how much she missed this between them last night and how much of an affect he had on her, until now with his lips, teeth and tongue driving her mindless. They groaned, the threat of lack of air not even separating their kissing. They even ignored the few claps and a whistle directed toward them for their display of affection.
Clark finally pulled back, knowing he could survive without air but Lois couldn't. Her eyes were still fluttered shut, breathing rapidly for more then one reason.
"You talk too much." He whispered to her, rubbing his forehead and nose against hers and was rewarded with her smiling hazels that open to stare at him.
"Wow, what did you do to me, Smallville?" She breathed out, still trying to catch her breath.
"I should be the one asking you that." His charming smile lighting up his face in bliss, as his thumb caressed her bottom lip. "What have you done to me, Miss Lane?"
Lois bit on her bottom lip, at the feel of shivers through her body in pleasure. She couldn't break the mega-watt smile from her face even if her life depended on it. They close in for another kiss when their editor decided at that moment to show up behind them and be a pain in the ass, breaking the two apart.
"What is this tv Soaps hour?" Stevens raised his voice loudly to those who were spectating the two love-birds, causing the workers to get back to their normal rush and humdrum of routines.
"And you, Lane, aren't suppose to be within 20,000 feet of the Daily Planet."
"Why did I even bother?" Lois smirked about her disguise seeing how even Stevens knew it was her and he was standing behind her.
She snatched the white, floral scarf from around her face as she turned around to glare at her present editor. "I'm pretty sure that distance isn't correct. I didn't even know there was a limit of how close I could be to my place of employment."
"Whatever, Lane, if you want to still have a job. I suggest you vacate the premise before something else in the bullpen decides to explode."
"Lois, was just leaving, Mr. Stevens." Clark tried to mediate the situation before Lois got into anymore trouble.
She glared at him over her shoulder before turning back to Stevens. "Fine, I'm gone."
He gave one last reprimanding look at the two before walking from them, giving final words to Lois over his shoulder. "By the way, nice story on that little blog of yours."
Lois could hear the sarcasm dripping in his voice but bravely shouted to his retreating back. "Someone has to get the truth out there for the people."
Clark turned her around to face him. "Lois, what is he talking about?"
"My story on the Blur, Stevens wasn't allowing the Planet to print it. So, I had to get the Blur's story out there somehow, Clark." She explained waiting for the fallout of lectures from him.
"Lois, you're suppose to be distancing yourself from the spotlight, not painting an even bigger target on your back."
"There's a target on my back whether I did this or not. You've heard what Oliver said."
Clark nodded his head in agreement. "I thought you were through with the Blur. What happen between you two, Lois?"
She bit her inner cheek, her eyes starting into his, not wanting to delve through such personal matters especially with her newly beginning relationship with Clark.
"How about we talk about that and other things over dinner?" Lois asked, a hint of red tinting her cheeks as she felt a little embarrassed and shy.
A small teasing smile came over his mouth. "Lois, are you asking me out on a date?"
Feeling flustered and heat rush through her body at the realization that this was really happening, her and Clark going out. She punched him on the shoulder and walked past him to the double-door entrance of the bullpen. "What do you think?"
"I think, I say, yes." Clark playfully said, watching as she turned around to him to give a bright smile. "I would love too."
"Great, I'll see you tonight at 7." Lois replied then changed her mind, giving him a wink. "Make it 8."
Clark shook his head, smiling widely as he stared at her wanting to rush to her side and kiss her some more, but refrained knowing she needed to get back to hiding. She stared back at him as she stood there placing shades and scarf back on, wanting the same as she lingered by the doors. Not wanting to leave and about to when a loud commotion could be heard from outside. Both of their expressions changed, all serious, as sounds of shouting and car horns honking could be heard.
"What's going on?" A female co-worker said out loud as other workers stopped to listen to the sounds as wells.
"Something is going on outside." A male co-worker pointed to the tall arch windows of the room as a rush of people ran past in all directions along with screaming.
Another co-worker came to a halt, breathless from running to inform those around. "There's a huge brawl going on outside."
Clark placed his hand on the young man's shoulder to keep him in place. "What's going on."
"There was a small rally for the Blur in front of the Daily Planet when a small group of the Freak Haters must of saw them or heard about it. They're out there fighting with bats, pipes...I don't think the Blur supporters have a chance..." He replied before running out the bullpen and on his way.
Clark was by Lois' side in an instant, worried expressions worn on their faces as they watched the workers inside quickly walk past them as others ran to make their way outside the Daily Planet to see what was going on for themselves. The voices grew angry and louder, as many fights could be heard taking place outside and traffic came to a halt with blaring horns and loud shouts.
