Disclaimer: As usual: I own nothing. Don't ask.
Note: This is an exploration of possibilities, folks. Gotten a couple of new favorites/follows recently, so I decided to write another chapter after only 3 years... yeah, I know. No. I'm not dead. I got a job, which takes a LOT of time off my 'faff-about' time.
Title: Super Sentai Captain Gaia-Force X
Harry had done many things in his time at Hogwarts. Wands and wizards, witches, cauldrons and potions. All of it. It was a fascinating experience, really. The sheer illogical nature of magic made a lot of strange and unusual things quite ordinary to the previously 'normal' boy. But it wasn't until the 3rd year that the strangeness really had started settling in. he was 14 years old when he'd first experienced the power his new team had called 'the Second Breath.' The name was a holdover from a time before recorded history, referencing the myth that a child gains it's soul when it takes it's first breath after being born.
He'd been fighting to maintain consciousness while driving off the Dementors at the Black Lake when his entire body felt like he'd taken a nice long nap and every breath came with renewed power. His whole form was covered in flames and something within him burned brighter than he'd ever thought possible. The whole world seemed darker for the light now shining out from the young boy, but with every burning step, he'd found the Dementors influence on his mind weakening.
His patronus had held up valiantly, but it unraveled without it's caster's concentration upon it. He just couldn't bring himself to care as flames surged down his arms to form a sword seemingly made of flames. The Dementors certainly noticed the difference between it and steel, though. Each cut burned them deep and harsh. Their sickly flesh boiled not just from the heat, but the sheer Holy might the sword represented.
Somewhere, Antonin Dolohov felt himself being challenged...
But this was nearly 12 years ago. After the fight with Voldemort, which ended with a massive conflagration that left nothing but ashes and a more than slightly pissed off Harry potter behind. He'd packed up his things and left England for the wider world, to take in the sights and live for a change rather than get bogged down with yet more drama.
And that's how he wound up in Japan, of all places. The magical community here was only a little different from England. A bit more tolerant of the so-called 'half-breed' species, to be sure, but otherwise still stuck mostly in the 1400s.
He'd been tempted, at first, to try to learn how to use a katana, if only for the sheer stupid geekishness of it all. But he'd finally decided to just say 'fuck it' and do his own goddamned thing. Still, learning to fight unarmed was useful. This was how he met the first of his new team.
Her name was Mai. No family name, just Mai. Why? She'd always tell him to go fuck himself if he asked, so he stopped asking. They had accidentally double-booked the public training room at a local gym, and the other rooms were taken up with other classes for various things. One of them even had an elderly Tai Chi class going.
Harry wished he could say they had become fast friends, but that'd be a lie. You see, mai had an affinity for water. A strong affinity. Much like his own for fire, really. And it took them nearly a year and a half to speak of it in anything but vague terms. Really the only reason it had come up was because Mai's friends, two boys who seemed to share the 'elemental' affinities harry had discovered in himself, had shown up to drag her out of their little sparring session and Mai had blasted both of them back with a wave of water.
All three had looked to harry nervously, as though some big secret had been revealed. He just laughed and let lose the flames he kept tightly bound inside him.
He'd been dragged along with them, much to Mai's consternation. Turns out? Ide Toji and Inoue Kensuke were very much 'brothers in spirit' and also very reminiscent of a pair of red-headed twins back in England. Toji had a way with the earth itself, and Kensuke was nothing if not skilled with lightning and wind.
The final member of the group, a young woman named Tsukino Haruko, was the group medic and horticulturalist. Why had these people formed a team, one might ask? Because Yokai might have become calmer in the last few hundred years, but they still caused trouble, damn it. And some times Tokyo paid millions of dollars repairing the damage.
And so that's how harry found himself in a group of other elementally-powerful people wearing armor that would make Iron Man fans gush made out of Red Jade and fighting some kind of gigantic kappa that for some reason wanted to destroy humanity. It was an odd way for his life to turn out, but he had what could only be called a family, now. He lived in the outskirts of Tokyo with Mai, Kensuke, Toji and Haruko, working day-jobs and fighting monsters.
And laughing at Sentai TV shows. Can't forget that part. Seriously. Kensuke could come up with better equipment in his sleep.
