Well, here is part II. Hope you enjoy it. :)
And a thank you to xFosTeRx and Shadow Fox 2013 for reviewing to last chapter. ;)
Hello there. You guys remember that, last time we met, I told you about my first night in the Campania right? (byt the way, how I wish I could forget it...)
Well...
Three days had passed since that awful first night in the ship. Three days of having to deal with Chamberlin and Kent on daily basis, since, to my utmost displeasure and shock, the nobleman was good friends with Miss Elizabeth and her family. All the while, suffering with that awful seasickness that left me feeling on the verge of vomiting all day long.
The only good thing of those three days? At the very least, the Marquis and his butler had the decency to pretend not to know me. And, let me tell you, they were bloody good actors.
After those three days had passed, it was the night of the Aurora Society reunion and, coincidentally, the special dinner Miss Elizabeth had invited the Earl to. So, there I was, with Sebastian and Snake, accompanying Young Master to a special, black-tie dinner party as we waited for the Aurora Society to act.
Let me tell you, it was an event to remember.
The First Class Passengers' Lounge was beautifully ornamented, the guests were richly dressed, the music was masterly played and the food and drinks were abundant and refined. It was hard not to gawk at the scenario around me; never in my whole life had I ever been to such a high-class event. And I worked as Ciel's butler for practically a year!
"Ciel! Look! Look! That cake is so cute!" I heard Miss Elizabeth say.
My eyes focused on Young Master and Miss Elizabeth, as the latter pulled him by the hand to admire the (enormous) cake she mentioned. I couldn't help but smile softly at those two; they made the cutest couple ever.
"Wait here." The girl asked from Ciel. "I'll go get you some food!"
With that, she left the boy to his own devices.
…
Or should I say demise?
From the defeated way Young Master was laying his body on a column and the black aura surrounding him, I think demise would be the more appropriate term.
"Are you alright, Young Master?" I asked worriedly. "Are you suffering from sea-sickness as well? Sebastian has a great medicine for that, I'll go g-"
"No." The boy put in. "I'm alright, Elli. It's just… Nobles really don't have anything to do but gather every day and talk about irrelevant things like what family did this or that. With a straight face even! It feels stupid having abandoned work to come here."
"But, you coming here made Miss Elizabeth very happy."
That made the grim expression leave Young Master's face for a moment. "Yes. But, still…"
"Well then-" Sebastian began, raising a plate of food to Young Master. "-why don't you accept the Marchioness' invitation to give you an introduction to fencing?"
And the grim expression was back. I pouted at that; bloody Sebastian undoing my hard work.
"Will you not allow me to see the Statue of Liberty's face, at all?" Young Master demanded.
"I apologize." The demon spoke with a charming smile and he handed Young Master the plate of food. "But, more important, Young Master, it is tonight. It seems that the signal for the opening of Aurora Society is a waiter walking around while carrying empty glasses. The attendees take one glass and go to the meeting place."
"Very well. You two, don't miss the signal."
"Yes, my lord." Sebastian and I answered at the same time.
"Also…" Young Master continued as an after-thought. "Elli."
I straightened up a little at the suddenness with which the Earl called my name. "Yes?"
"I don't wish to draw attention to us, and people already know that now I walk accompanied by two butlers. We'll split ourselves in two parties. Sebastian and I will go in first and you will follow ten minutes later. In the Aurora Society's reunion, you will stay behind us, close, but without allowing others to notice that we're together. Understood?"
Face serious, I nodded my head. "Yes, my lord."
"Good. We will see each other again in the meeting."
And so, Young Master walked away, towards Snake.
"Take this, Elli." Sebastian spoke, handing me a bundle of clothes. "Go change quickly; your butler's uniform is much too simple for you to pass as a noble. Also, you will find a reasonable amount of money in your pants pockets; be careful with it."
I stared at the demon for a second or two, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Where were you keeping these clothes?"
He just gave me that annoyingly secretive smirk of his. "It is only natural that a servant of the Phantomhive would be able to carry a change of clothes without getting others' attention."
Then, he went to join Young Master.
I went to a toilet and changed my clothes very quickly. Now, I was wearing black pants with very thin, vertical white lines in them and a white and fitting, long-sleeved shirt, covered by a dark purple vest and a matching purple tie, and a long blazer, double-breasted with dark purple buttons. My shoes remained the same black ones I use as a butler and I let my almost shoulder-length hair loose, parted to the side and tucked behind my ears.
For some moments, I stared at myself in the mirror, taking deep breaths and not really seeing my image. Truth is: I was nervous about infiltrating the meeting on my own. I had never posed as a nobleman before! What if I screwed it up?
Also, I didn't know how to feel about the fact that Young Master ordered me to do that on my own instead of Sebastian, who was obviously more used than me to do such things. Was it because he really trusted that I wouldn't screw up? Or because he thought that I'd just get in the way if I went with him and Sebastian?
"Forget it." I told myself. "You don't have time to think about this now. Go find that waiter."
As soon as I left the toilet, I walked up to the second floor of the Lounge. It was much emptier than the first floor, where the buffet and the drinks were served, providing me a calmer atmosphere. Also, from above, I could easily keep an eye on the waiters that were walking about, and on Ciel and Sebastian.
And on Marquis Chamberlin and Kent.
My eyes narrowed as soon as they found the two nightmares from my past. Chamberlin was surrounded by young noble girls and their mothers, talking to them with a charming smile playing on his lips, while Kent stood behind his master, just waiting for an order, like the good lap dog he was.
…
I really shouldn't talk badly about Kent in regard to how he served Chamberlin, after all, I behave the same way with Ciel during the events I accompany him to.
Kent's and mine gazes crossed. The demon looked shocked for a second, as if not believing that the person he was seeing was really me, before a maliciously appreciative smile stretched across his lips. I blushed and glared at the demon, making his disturbing smile lighten up to one of sheer amusement as he bend down a little to whisper something in Chamberlin's ear. Needless to say, the Marquis raised his gaze to look directly at me.
My first instinct was to crouch and hide from that gaze but, thank God, I remembered that I was in a social event, with people around me; people that would give me strange looks and comment about what I did and ruin Young Master's plan of discretion. So, tensing all the muscles of my body, I forced myself to stay still and stare back at the Marquis with defiant eyes.
It was the platinum blonde's time to smile in amusement at me. Once again, I blushed and glared.
Then, the Marquis said something to the women surrounding him, something that seemed to… disappoint them? Why was he walking away from those women? Better yet, WHY WAS HE WALKING TOWARDS THE STAIRS?
Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell...
He was coming here.
Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell...
What should I do?
Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell...
Oh, he ordered Kent to wait downstairs. One good new to me, at least. The demon didn't seem to like it, though.
Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell. Bloody hell...
He is close. He is right besides me. He will talk to me. What should I say?
Oh, blo-
"Eliza Davis." The man greeted in a low and amused voice as he looked down at the people on the first floor. "What a nice surprise." He turned his head to me and looked at me up and down. He scoffed. "I cannot believe in what I'm seeing."
I felt my eyes narrow in anger at the mocking tone in his voice. "And what is that supposed to mean?"
"Who would have ever imagined that a street rat like you would be attending such a high class party?" Chamberlin asked no one, in a contemplative voice that dripped acid as he returned his gaze to the people bellow us.
"I'm not a street rat."
"That is right. Please, forgive me. Your little friend was the street rat; you're just a domestic mouse."
Now, that had me seething. Eyes narrowed and jaw clenched, I grabbed Chamberlin Chamberlin's arm tightly and turned him to me, pulling his face down, close to mine. It was with great appreciation that I saw him clench his jaw in pain.
"Darrel isn't a rat either." I spoke through gritted teeth and released the platinum blonde. Then, I turned my narrowed eyes back down to search for Young Master and the waiter with the empty glasses. Ciel was there still, but no sign of the waiter. "What do you want? Came to try and kidnap me again?"
"Kidnap you? In such a crowded place? With the Watchdog and his demon butler right below us?" Chamberlin demanded in an annoyed voice, turning his gaze to the same direction of mine: Ciel. "Do you take me for a fool?"
"No. I take you for a crazy person. And crazy people do desperate things." I answered simply. "And how do you know that Sebastian is a demon?"
"I have my sources."
I glanced suspiciously at the blonde from the corner of my eye. "How do you…" know Undertaker?
I saw the platinum blonde turn to me with a raised eyebrow. "How do I...?"
"Never mind." I said with a shake of my head. "Why are you bothering me? Don't you have something else to do?"
"Not now; I have already spoken to all of the ten or eleven actually interesting people in this dinner. The rest of the people here are so shallow that I feel pain, actual physical pain, just in listening to them." He explained in a bored voice. "I do have an appointment for this evening, but it won't happen until 21:15."
"It's already 21:00, you know? I'd much prefer if you endured fifteen more minutes of that torture instead of bestowing it upon me."
An annoyed smirk stretched across Chamberlin's face. "Your tongue got sharp over the last couple of years.
"…Sorry." I know I shouldn't apologize to Chamberlin from all people, but I couldn't help myself; apologizing for my rudeness is part of my nature.
We spent a couple of minutes in a cold silence before I had the courage to speak again.
"Is it just an act, right?"
Chamberlin turned his head to look at me, searching for something that would give sense to my question.
"The way you behave around Miss Elizabeth and her family." I clarified, turning my head to gaze back at him. "You seem to genuinely like them. But, it is just an act. Right?"
"What if it isn't?" He asked, serious. My eyes widened at that. "What if I truly like and care about them?"
"I don't believe in you."
"I don't care." He dismissed, turning his head back down. "Your opinion about me is already set in stone and I know I can't change it. Also, there is nothing for me to gain from convincing you that I do care about Lizzy, so why should I even bother?"
Honestly, I was at loss of what to say. I opened and closed my mouth several times before giving up on continuing that particular topic of the conversation.
And so, we spent another couple of minutes in silence; a very awkward silence. Really, why didn't he just leave?! He was obviously disliking that conversation as much as I-
Wait! That waiter! He was carrying a tray full of empty glasses!
"It seems my appointment will begin a little earlier." Chamberlin commented with an amused voice and turned away from me. "I will see you in the meeting."
My eyes widened in shock.
As I grabbed one of the empty glasses and followed an old man, member of the Aurora Society, I couldn't help but beat myself up mentally. Honestly, how did I not see that Chamberlin was involved with that Aurora Society? I mean, human experimentations, much?
But, realizing that Chamberlin was part of the Aurora Society wouldn't be only the first surprise of that night. The second one came as I entered the room in which the meeting would take place (after paying an absurd price for a glass of water, mind you) and caught two members of the society greeting each other. One was the old man I was following, the other was a fat man wearing spectacles.
"The complete flame in our chests shall not be extinguished by anyone. We are…" Then, came the most ridiculous pose you can imagine. Ever. "THE PHOENIX!"
Wordlessly, I made to walk into the room, but was stopped by the same fat man that had greeted the old man I was following.
"Is it your first time?" He spoke simply, but, from his tone, I could see that he was expecting something from me. And I had a very clear idea of he was expecting…
I took a deep breath and began. "The flame in our chests… shall never be extinguished. We are…" Swallowing the little pride I had left, I raised my arms above my head and my left knee, as if I was a bird trying to take flight. "THE PHOENIX!"
From the corner of my eye, I spotted Sebastian and Ciel on the other side of the room, both wearing disguises and both observing me. Young Master had an expression of absolute distaste and a little sympathy while the demon appeared to be extremely amused. I threw the demon a glare before returning my attention to the fat man that had greeted me... and was now doing the same ridiculous pose.
"Welcome! Welcome!" He spoke as he closed my right hand around a little broche. "Here is your membership badge. Enjoy the reunion!"
With that, he walked away and, right on cue, I heard a very high-pitched and enthusiastic "THE PHOENIX!" coming from behind me. Startled, I wiped my head around to see a blonde man doing the pose in a slightly modified way. He glanced at me and nodded his head in greeting before walking away, in Young Master's direction.
I spent a good five minutes walking around, trying so hard to pretend not to know Ciel as I looked for Chamberlin and Kent. Those two were dangerous so it was best for me to keep an eye on them, especially since the Marquis said we would meet here. But, strange enough; they were nowhere to be seen.
Suddenly, excited voices around me announced that it was about to begin. Letting out a frustrated sigh, I walked closer to the middle of the room and took a place right behind Young Master, Sebastian and that blonde man from before.
My eyes widened as four men made their way into the room, carrying a coffin over their shoulders. Undertaker's image popped up in my head and I couldn't help but wonder again: how did Kent and Chamberlin know the mortician?
"He is the founder." The blonde told Young Master, pointing to a tall brunette doctor. "Doctor Ryan Stoker."
It was with great distaste that I watched the doctor do the traditional and ridiculous greeting that everyone there seemed to be so keen of. Really, not even the doctors there had self-respect…
"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming to tonight's research presentation of the Aurora Society's Complete Salvation of Mankind Through Medicine." The doctor began in a serious tone. "What is complete salvation, you ask? It is… Complete Health!" Then, his whole demeanor changed to that of an excited little kid. "A healthy body! Healthy teeth! A healthy spirit! And, finally, a healthy mood! Healthiness is truly splendid!"
I felt like vomiting, and it was not due to the seasickness. But, it passed when the doctor dropped that ridiculous excitement and resumed talking in a more somber note.
"However, there is the worst kind of health's issue that we cannot overcome, no matter how hard we try. What is that, you ask? Death!" You could feel the atmosphere grow tense at those words. "And the grand power that will save us from this disaster is the Aurora Society's medicine!"
I am not ashamed to say that I gulped in dread. I had a really bad feeling about this.
The men opened the coffin to reveal the sewed up body of a teenage girl, to which the doctor attached many cables before turning to us.
"Well, ladies and gentlemen! I will show you now! The power of medicine! The complete salvation!"
A large electric current ran to the girl's body, making it glow in an incandescent light for a moment. I remember wondering how the girl's flesh didn't burn to crisps…
"Come and rise from the dead! Like the Phoenix!"
Let me tell you something: in my heart, I was certain that it wouldn't work, that this Aurora Society's plan was just a sick excuse to meddle with other people's bodies, that the dead would never come back to live. So, when an arm raised from that coffin, an once dead arm, my heart and my breathing stopped for a moment.
"Take a look!" The doctor spoke in pure enthusiasm and pride. "With our medicine, we can even overcome death!"
Wrong. It was all wrong! People died and that was it! It was natural! It was HUMAN! Who do they think they are to play around with people's lives like that?! To pull them from their final peace?! Had anyone asked the deceased if the wanted to be brought back? No! Didn't anyone else see how wrong… how disrespectful, it all was?!
"Maggy! Oh, Maggy!" The dead girl's mother exclaimed as she hug her daughter tightly. "Thank you doctor! Oh, Maggy! As long as you're alive, mother will…"
My eyes widened and I felt adrenaline start to quick in my system as I saw the girl open her mouth impossibly wide, as if ready to…
"KYAAAAAAAAAAAAH! WHAT ARE YOU DOING, MAGGY?!"
… to bite off her mother's neck.
As the old woman dropped dead, everyone in the room panicked and started to run, desperate to get away from the room; everyone but me, Young Master, Sebastian, the doctor and two of his bodyguards, and a redheaded couple, that was watching everything from a nice distance with detached smiles on their faces.
Since the room was practically empty, Ciel and Sebastian quickly removed their disguises. The demon wasted no time to take action; he took out those knives he always carried around and threw them in the dead girl's chest.
But, to our surprise, the girl continued moving.
"I am sure I stabbed her in the chest." Sebastian stated, narrowing his eyes. "That… is a being that I do not understand."
I won't lie to you; I was scared. Not of that… thing, per se, but of the people that made it. To change a person like that, after said person's death, was just too much. How could they even imagine doing something like that? Why would they do something like that? Actually, better not to think about it. It doesn't matter their reason; nothing could ever justify turning that girl in a monster like that.
"The Aurora Society's Revival of the Dead may not be occult anymore…" Young Master pondered, staring at the thing with analytical eyes. "I never thought that Lau's story would be true."
"Shit… it failed." The doctor cursed before turning to the two bodyguards that were behind him. "What are you standing here for?! Take her down already!"
The two men pulled out his guns and started shooting the thing, but it still didn't die. Instead, it walked up to them and…
"AAAHHHHHHHHH!"
I think you can imagine what happened next…
"Damn! These useless people!" The doctor complained loudly as he ran away. The bastard! He had the audacity to complain about his bodyguards (that had just died for him!,) being useless as he ran with his tail between his legs?!
Angry, I made to run after the doctor, just as Young Master did, but Sebastian stretched his right arm in front of us, stopping us. Just then, the thing, which was devouring one of the bodyguards, raised its dead, blindfolded eyes to us.
"How are we supposed to take care of that?!" Young Master demanded of Sebastian as I pushed the boy behind me in a protective manner.
"Why do I not dismember it so it cannot move anymore?" Sebastian suggested.
"That sounds awfully impractical…" I couldn't help but comment as I watched the thing walk towards us. "But I guess it is our bes-"
"Actually, to kill thses guys, you have to smash their heads, ya know?" A voice, male and young, came from above.
Not a second later, a blonde teenage boy flew towards the thing and destroyed its head with a weapon that looked like a lawnmower. Also, he used spectacles. And had yellow eyes.
"You should pay attention to the more important stuff." He stated with a cocky smile on his lips.
"Not another one…" I groaned. That was all that we needed to deal with right now: another of those crazy death gods!
"AHHHH!" The boy exclaimed in a childish whine, startling me. "This chick IS totally dead after all! I so told them that I had collected her properly!"
"What is he?" I heard Ciel ask.
"Huh? You don't know?" I let out, making the boy shoot me an annoyed glare. I blushed in embarrassment. "Sorry, Young Master; I didn't mean to of-"
"Just spit it out, already!"
"You should know them well by now, Young Master." Sebastian put in, observing the death god like a hawk.
At that exactly moment, the boy used his weird weapon on the old lady that was killed by the thing.
Young Master's eye widened in comprehension. "A death god?"
The death god finally focused his attention on us. Well, on Sebastian to be more specifically. "That get up… Don't tell me you're the infamous Sebby!"
"Haha- Pfffft!"I slammed my right hand over my mouth quickly to muffle my laughter, but Sebastian had noticed it and shot me an annoyed glare nonetheless. "Sorry…" I said sheepishly
With an equally annoyed sigh, the demon turned his gaze to the death god. "I have quite the aversion to that nickname... however, I am, indeed, the senior butler of the Phantomhive family, Sebastian Michaelis."
"So, that means that you-" The death god pointed at me. "-are the teddy-bear!"
"Pffffft!" It was Sebastian's turn to muffle his laughter and my turn to glare.
"No." I denied, crossing my arms over my chest and sneering at the boy. "I am Elliot Hall; Earl Phantomhive's second butler. And you are?"
"Ronald Knox. From the Collection Division of the Dispatch Association of the death gods. Thanks for taking care of my senior."
"Please, tell me he is talking about Spears." I whispered wistfully. Don't get me wrong, I dislike Spears as much as the next person, but he's a bed of roses when compared to Grell.
"You said that, if we wanted to kill them, we had to smash their heads." Sebastian began. "Do you, death gods, know something about the revival of the dead?"
Unfortunately, that death god, Ronald, knew nothing about the Aurora Society's experiments. But, he did assure us that the thing he had killed was nothing more than a walking corpse; the girl's soul had been collected two weeks before.
"Looks like our only choice is to force that Ryan Stoker to spit it out." Young Master settled, turning around to march out of the room. "Let's go!"
Of course, Ronald wouldn't let us off the hook so easily. Sebastian and I had just turned around to follow Young Master when the death god attacked us with his "scythe". While I grabbed Ciel and jumped away from the danger, Sebastian grabbed the weapon's blunt sides and held it back, just a few centimeters form his face.
"If the Administration finds out that there was a demon aboard, you betcha they'll be going like Aren't you just hiding the fact that you let the beast snatch all of the souls away?" Ronald spoke with a sinister smile on his lips. "Dontcha think that those kinda false accusations will get me in looootsa of trouble? And I totally pass overtime. So, why dontcha just vanish, already?"
Just then, I noticed the couple that was watching walk from the room discreetly. Ignoring it, I quickly put Ciel on the floor and made to help Sebastian, but the boy kept me in place by grabbing my arm firmly.
"Sebastian! I'll go on ahead! After you're done playing, hurry up and follow me!"
"Yes, Young Master." The demon answered, giving Ciel a quick glance.
Then, Young Master raised his determined blue eye on me. "Elli, you follow that couple that was here until now. Those two surely have something to hide."
My eyes doubled their size when I heard that. "No! I can't leave you alone, Ci-"
"That's an order!"
Biting my lower lip in frustration, I dropped to one knee and bowed lowly to the Earl.
"Yes, my lord."
I did as I was told and ran to the direction that couple had gone to. First, my steps were rushed so I could pick up with them. Once I knew they were close, I slowed down and walked quietly to see if I could overhear their conversation. All I could make out were rushed words (why didn't I have Darrel's hearing?) so I didn't understand anything that they were saying, but one thing I can assure you: both voices were deep and baritone.
Brows furrowed in confusion, I continued following those two through the corridors of the First Class' cabins areas, which were empty since practically all of the nobles were at the dinner still. My brows furrowed even more when I noticed that I actually recognized the path those two were following. They were going to…
The couple halted their movements in front of a door. It was the door to Chamberlin's cabin.
"I was hoping you would follow us, little mouse." The man of the couple spoke as he turned around slowly and removed the red wig he was using, letting his long, platinum blond hair fall free to his waist. His smile was demoniac. "You have truly made my night."
The "woman" removed "her" own red wig and tore off her dress (and, I don't know how, managed to grow some inches in a second). Needless to say, the "woman" was actually Kent. The demon was barefoot and his hair was quite disheveled, but, somehow, that 'just-got-out-of-the-bed' appearance only made him more intimidating. The predatory smile he had on his lips helped, also. A lot.
Without a second though, I got in a fighting stance. Widening his smile, Kent imitated me.
"Boris, capture Eliza Davis. Alive."
"Your wish is my comman, milord."
This time, it would be me against Kent, for real.
There was no way I could beat Kent.
It was painful for me to accept it, but the demon was stronger and faster than me. For each successful punch I delivered, he returned three; for each of my kicks that managed to push him a couple of feet back, he kicked me hard enough to make me fly in the air.
I had received many blows to the head and was a little dizzy so I don't remember how or when exactly our fight ended up in Chamberlin's cabin. But, I do remember being on the floor of the noble's closet, sitting on a pile of the man's fine clothes as my blurred vision only allowed me to make out Kent standing in the room, some feet away from me, while Chamberlin watched everything with a pleased smile on his face.
"I think that this is enough, do you not agree, Miss Davis?" Kent asked in a soft voice. "Please, come quietly now."
"N-No." I breathed out and tried to stand up, only to end up falling back down. "C-Ciel… I have to go back to him. M-Make sure he is alright. Tell him ab-"
"About me?" Chamberlin cut in.
I glared at the blonde as much as I could, considering my deplorable state. "Yes."
"And what, exactly, do you plan to tell the Watchdog? You have nothing to share that he doesn't know, or, at least, suspect already." Chamberlin stated with a condescending smirk playing on his lips. "Also, even if you do tell the Watchdog something useful, he won't be able to find any proof of my link to the Aurora Society; all I did was through that idiotic Viscount of Druitt."
"U-Undertaker." I breathed out, shutting my eyes tightly at a sudden surge of pain. "I have to warn Young Master about… him."
Believe me: I didn't mean to say that. Actually, I don't know where that had come from, but I was thankful for it. It reminded me that there was something that I still had to do; that I couldn't let Chamberlin capture me. I didn't believe that Young Master knew about Chamberlin's schemes but that was alright; he didn't deal with the Marquis often. On the other hand, Ciel relied on the mortician's help to obtain information about the deaths of the Underworld; what if Undertaker used that trust to send Ciel to a trap?
Yes, I felt guilty for thinking that about Undertaker, but Kent's words never left my thoughts…
"And who would have guessed? You were with that unpleasant mortician! You are surprised? Well, next time you should be more careful about where you leave your books, my dear; Alice's adventures in the Wonderland is hardly a book Undertaker would read."
Not only did Chamberlin knew Undertaker; he had been in the mortuary. The mortician and the Marquis did have some business going on between them. Don't get me wrong; never for one second did I think that Undertaker had any intentions to betray me and help Chamberlin; I trusted the mortician with my life. But, I wasn't so sure if I could trust him with Ciel's...
Determined to get out of there, I forced my eyes to open once again. The first thing I saw was my lap, with my hands limp over it. The second thing I saw was a small vial on the floor, touching my right thigh. In it was a red liquid that I recognized all too well; it was the activation serum.
Not wasting a second to wonder why Chamberlin had brought that, I grabbed the vial and, since I had no syringe with me and no time for an injection, with the same hand, I pierced a hole in my abdomen, in which I smashed the vial, pouring the serum directly inside of me.
I remember hearing Chamberlin scream something to his butler and Kent run towards me in slow-motion.
Then, everything was red.
