Chapter 10: A new day
(third person POV following Wally)
It was a new day, the sun was shining brightly in the sky by the time Wally had woken up. He had hopped out of bed the moment he woke up, excitement for the day to come giving him more energy than he should have this time of day. He hummed to himself as he got ready, thoughts filling his mind as he tried to remember what had happened to him at school prior to his camping trip. Memories of before the 'incident' had long since stopped being interesting to him, instead he was trying to focus all his energy on figuring out who he was now.
In the back of his mind he knew that his family wanted him to go back to normal, yet he also knew that it just wasn't going to happen.
He was going to change, but something told him it wouldn't be the way they wanted him to...
With a heavy sigh he left the bathroom, his energy fading with his sad thoughts.
He walked back to his bedroom and saw Bart just getting out of bed. Upon seeing him the other boy looked at him with a confused expression. Clearly Bart wasn't expecting him to wake up before him.
Bart's expression amused Wally, it made him smile. "I got up earlier," Wally chirped.
"You should have waited for me to get up first," Bart told him, "You really shouldn't be wandering around the house on your own. What if you have a panic attack? We wouldn't know until it was too late."
Wally laughed at this. "I'm fine -I've been recovering," he insisted. "I haven't felt this good in a long time!"
"I know you feel fine, but you aren't," Bart reminded him as he jumped off his bunk.
Wally glared at him before going back to getting ready for school.

As Wally waved goodbye to his uncle after being dropped off in front of the school, he couldn't keep the smile off his face. He was excited, to say the least, at the thought of finding some of the missing pieces of his memory to do with his time before his camping trip. He was also excited to find out more about the kids from the note. He wondered if they were perhaps the same children that Grampa Jay was talking about yesterday. It would make sense, as they said they were friends with him and the kids Grampa Jay were talking about seemed to be refereed to as his friends. He could be wrong, of course, but the more he thought about it the more it felt right to him. It felt like it was the truth despite him not having any proof.
"You coming?" Bart asked him when he hadn't moved for a bit.
"Of course," Wally said as he followed him into the school.
They walked in silence through the halls for a minute before his cousin stopped and started talking to some kids he didn't recognize. Bart seemed to like them though, so he supposed they were alright. They were really boring to him though and their words made no sense to him as they appeared to be talking about mathematics.
Wally was wondering how long until classes would begin when Bart suddenly got tense.
"What's wrong?" Wally asked his cousin.
"I'll be right back," Bart told him shortly before looking to the other teens and saying, "Keep him here."
Wally frowned as his cousin walked away from him.
He rolled his eyes and ditched the teens the moment they started talking. Fortunately none of them noticed him walking away. He had a feeling that they were extremely unobservant. He had a feeling that they would never get along.
Keeping as quiet as possible he followed after his cousin. He couldn't use his speed, but he was naturally agile so he soon found himself watching his cousin from around the corner.
Bart was yelling at a group of five teens. He's never seen them before in his life but for some reason he felt like he knew them.
"You're lying!" The only girl of the group snapped at Bart. "He couldn't have forgotten us!"
Bart smirked. "He has," he told her. "So you and your stupid little group should just stay away from him. Your strangers to him now."
A boy with a hat covering most of his face pushed Bart away from them. "He's our friend," he told Bart. "I don't know what you did to him to make him forget who we are -but that won't stop us. We'll just reintroduce ourselves to him!"
"Even if his memories don't come back, we'll just make new ones," A very short boy chimed in.
"So no, we won't stay away from him, partner," A muscular boy said, crossing his arms as he glared at Bart.
A boy in dark clothes simply gave Bart the middle finger.
Bart glared at them, vibrating slightly from anger. "I won't LET you near him!" He snapped back. "You will NOT corrupt him!"
The five laughed at him before walking away nonchalantly.
Wally was barely able to hold himself back from laughing as his cousin vibrated in anger. The way those five acted was totally awesome!
Five?
Wally furrowed his brow in though. There were five teens, and there were five names written on the note he had found in his room last night. Maybe it was them that had left him that note? But that did beg the question as to how they had gotten the note into his room in the first place.
He shrugged it off, deciding to leave it for later.
He was about to head back to the boring teens before Bart caught him, but then he saw Bart pull out his phone. His curiosity got the better of him and he decided to stick around until he was off the phone as he wanted to know what he would say.
"Hey Grampa Barry," Bart said to the phone. "Sorry to call you with bad news, but we have a problem."
There was a short silence, which Wally knew was his uncle responding to Bart.
"I just spoke with the delinquents," Bart explained, "Told them what you said, but they refused. Said that they'd help him remember and if they couldn't they'd just make new memories with him."
This time when the response came Wally could hear a distinct cracking sound that phones made when people yelled into them.
Bart shuffled around a bit. "I'm keeping a close eye on him, so don't worry," Bart assured Barry, "They won't get anywhere near him! If they try to I'll get rid of them before they can speak a single corrupting word to him."
Another short silence.
"Do you really think pulling him out of school is a good idea?" Bart asked nervously. "What if he perceives it as abuse?"
The silence was longer this time.
Bart smiled. "I've got it all under control," he told Barry, "Promise."
Wally had a feeling that the conversation wouldn't last much longer, and took this as his Que to leave. Making his way back through the halls and returning to the boring teens whom failed to realize he had left in the first place.
^o^
Bart returned just as the bell rang. He quickly led Wally to class before taking off, leaving Wally with a map that marked off where each of his classes were. Wally assumed that was because he didn't trust him to remember where they were on his own. That also told him that Bart wasn't going to be escorting him to all of his classes, which could give him a possible way to escape from his overbearing eyes.
With that optimistic thought he entered his first class of the day, math.
When he entered the room he allowed a smile to creep on his face. The teens from earlier were all in the room.
He started to walk over to them, but the teacher quickly escorted him a seat on the other side of the room.
Wally frowned at this.
He wanted answers, not to be hidden away.
It was then that he noticed the five teens glaring hatefully at the teacher from their seat. The teacher sent them a look and then collectively gave the teacher the middle finger, causing the teacher to shake their head at the five.
This time Wally didn't bother to hide his laughter.
The five teens looked at him for a second before smiling, then they to started laughing.
They laughed and laughed, laughing harder when the teacher demanded that they stop.

The rest of math class had passed by in relative silence. The five tried to interact with him a few times but the teacher made sure to be quick about silencing them. Wally had to wonder if someone, namely his uncle, had spoken to the teachers and convinced them to keep the five away from him. That would certainly fit with the way his family had been acting around him as of late.
He was making his way to his next class when a blaring noise suddenly filled his ears, causing him to jump in panic.
A fire alarm?
He was beginning to panic when the boy with the hat grabbed his wrist.
"We pulled the alarm, now lets go!" The boy told Wally.
Wally was surprised to hear this. "Go where?" He asked, surprise filling his words.
"To Jay and Joans -we'll explain everything there," The boy told him, tugging his arm slightly. "For now you just got to trust me!"
Wally nodded his head. "Lead the way."
The boy smiled at him and the two of them took off.
They ran out of the school, as they ran they were joined by the last four of the group. Together they made their way to Jay and Joan's house.
Wally debated to himself for a moment that maybe he shouldn't be going with them. His uncle didn't like them, and they seemed way different from anyone he had ever hung out with before. They also told off the teacher, and pulled the fire alarm. At the same time he thought they were funny, and nice. They also pulled the fire alarm for him so that they could talk to him. They were also the only people who weren't treating him like he was a fragile doll. Instead they treated him as if he were on the same level as them. It made him feel important.
Wally pushed his thoughts away as they arrived at the house, for now it would be more important to focus on what the five of them wanted to talk to him about.
They walked into the house, as the door was unlocked.
"Hi!" the girl greeted.
Jay and Joan walked over to them. "What are you kids doing here?" Jay inquired. "It isn't a day off."
The six looked at one another and grinned.
"We're skipping," the short boy declared.
"Pulled the fire alarm and took off!" The muscular boy laughed.
Jay and Joan sighed at them, then they noticed Wally. "It's good to have you back, Wally," Joan welcomed him. "But why did the six of you leave the school? Couldn't you have waited to hang out after school?"
Wally shifted nervously. To be honest he wasn't sure why exactly the other kids had dragged him off.
"My fault," The hat boy confessed. "Saw an opportunity and took it. Had to get him away from his cousin or we might not have gotten near him."
"He was being even more annoying than usual," The girl complained.
Jay laughed.
"Oh, and we have a problem," Mikron pointed out. "Wally can't remember who any of us are!"
Jay and Joan gasped.
"What?" Joan asked them.
"How?" Jay looked just as bewildered.
The hat boy sighed. "We aren't sure," He said before looking over at Wally. "Do you know what's wrong?"
Wally furrowed his brow in thought. "I don't know," he admitted. "All I know is that I've been having troubles remembering things afters I have a panic attack. The memories I lose seem random -but they might not be. I don't know. I don't know..."
They all looked at him sadly.
"Don't give me that look, please," Wally insisted, shaking his head. "I don't want pity -I get enough of it at home!"
Everyone looked away from him awkwardly.
Wally stared at them. "How do I know you five?" He asked finally.
The boy in the hat looked back at him. "We met you in math class when you first returned to school, we all hung out until your uncle showed up and flipped out on us," he said, laughing slightly as he thought about that day. "We've been friends since."
Wally nodded, though the information didn't ring any bells for him.
"Not long after we met you your stupid cousin showed up and tried to separate us," the girl told him, trying to remind him.
"We saw you use your powers," The muscular boy chimed in.
"So we told you we had powers as well," Mikron added.
'We told you our stories, and you told us yours,' the darkly dressed boy signed at him.
Wally looked at them and let their words sink in, he wanted to remember -truly he did. So why couldn't he? It frustrated him so much! He wanted to remember these happy time, not be stuck in these bad times!
Stuck... in the bad times?
He had a... conversation about that once... didn't he?
Yes!
He did!
He could remember it!
He was talking with Wyatt! Right?
Who was that again? He couldn't... remember...
!
Everyone in the room gasped as Wally collapsed unconscious on the floor.

Mist: Happy thanksgiving! At least to everyone in Canada!
Whistle: You get -a cliff hanger!
Mist: Sorry about that, I really wanted to release this today.
Whistle: I had to get her to focus on writing it or it never would have been finished.
Mist: That seems to be a common thing around here.
Whistle: Pretty much.
Both: Please review! See you all next time!
