I DO NOT OWN MAXIMUM RIDE!

Max P.O.V.

I faded in and out of consciousness.

I saw an eraser.

I felt pain.

I saw Jeb.

More pain.

Dark figures rose out of the shadows.

I punched, I kicked, I flew. But I could not escape.

The children with their mouths sewn shut.

Blinding pain.

Numbness.

I was numb. I couldn't feel anything anymore. It was like Flying but I still felt trapped. I tried to move but my body didn't respond.

I was oddly calm. Usually I would be panicking or thinking of a plan to get out.

To get away.

To be free.

But I could never have that. Because this was my life. And as much as I wanted to stay numb to everyone and everything. I couldn't...because I had a reason to live. I had a purpose. And I needed to fulfill that purpose. No matter what.

I felt the power. I've kept it in for so long that its going to destroy everything if I let it all out at once. I heard something cracked and soon I was falling. My back collided with the floor covered in broken glass. I heard footsteps and I opened my eyes. I saw Jeb but there was black smoke surrounding him. the same with all the other white coats in the room.

"Now...calm...power...control..." I heard someone speaking. I'm not sure if it was to me or not.

The smoke lifted me up and wrapped itself around my arms. It sunk into my skin and I looked at all the whitecoats. Now the smoke was surrounding me.

I felt the floor shake and an eraser was behind me. I moved out of the way and the black stabbed it in the stomach. Blood got on to my hospital gown. The black turned into white and darkness came over. I heard Jeb yell,

"Max!"

And then, nothing.

Fang P.O.V.

Nudge explained what the numbers meant. They were coordinates. But not the way one would normally think of them.

The coordinates were like a map of Max's brain. In a way it was a way to write down what Max sees while she's going through an attack. I knew that there was still something Nudge wasn't telling us but I decided not to push it for now. We had to find Max. That was the goal right now and I had to stay focused. Or at least try to.

"Okay, I'll go through it again. Some of the numbers represent symbols. Others are like coded words. Only Max knows what all this mess really says and the answer to the codes in something only Max can figure out." Nudge explained to Gazzy for the third time.

"But this is Max were talking about. She had to have a backup plan right? I mean she knew she was at risk why didn't she leave us a way to decode the message?" Gazzy asked.

"Because if we could figure out what it said then you can bet the whitecoats would have figured it out too. They're scientists for god sakes they're paid to know how to solve this. Us on the other hand, only have what we already know about Max from the few weeks we've known her." Iggy said sighing.

"Wait that-" Nudge started until she turned and ran out of the room, but not before grabbing the mess of numbers on the crumpled sheet of paper.

We all ran after her. We followed her as she ran through the forest weaving in and out of trees until she came to a sudden halt at the edge of the forest.

We were back behind Dr.M's house.

"Want to tell us what we're doing here Nudge?" Gazzy asked looking at nudge expectantly. She just walked to the back door and knocked. We followed her inside when Ella opened the door surprised to see us back so soon after we said goodbye.

Nudge quickly explained something to Ella and they ran around the house. They found scraps of paper, receipts, post it notes, and then the laptop that belonged to Dr.M. They put all of it on the kitchen table and set the crumpled paper in front of them. They looked through the small scraps of paper and took out two pieces of paper for themselves. Dr.M and the rest of us watched as they looked at the bits of paper and wrote things down on the paper.

"We had to have missed something, there are too many numbers missing." Nudge said and looked at her paper compared to the one Max wrote.

It's the same with mine. There are a lot of spaces, just like in Max's but in different places." Ella said as her brow bent downward in confusion.

"Can you please explain to me what is going on? And where's Max?" Dr.M asked crossing her arms over her chest in a 'tell me right now' kind of manner.

"Ok so I figured that Max would always have a backup plan. It just wouldn't make sense for her to not have one. That's one of the things I am sure about her in the few weeks we've known each other. Anyway I figured that she didn't leave anything with us that would help in case the whitecoats were to find us too. Then I remembered Ella and Dr.M. They were Max's backup plan. Remember while we were here? Max was constantly writing things down but not in a notebook or anything she would tear odd a piece of paper and write something down put the paper on a desk or something and then she would blink and just stand up and walk away. I know all of you saw it at one time or another because you were all giving her weird looks as we left Dr.M's house. You knew she was acting weird." Nudge said.

"Ok so we noticed, but that doesn't explain why she was writhing things down or that piece of paper." I said raising an eyebrow at them.

"Hold on, I wasn't finished yet. Every time I saw her writing her eyes would glaze over almost like she was in a daze. Sometimes she wasn't even looking at what she was writing. It was weird but one time I tried calling out to her and she didn't respond. She didn't even flinch when I grabbed her shoulder and shook her a little. It was strange. And when we were looking at that paper I remember a conversation I had with Ella about how Max was acting."

~Flashback~

"Hey Ella? Can I ask you something? Nudge asked quietly.

" Sure, what's up?" Ella asked sitting down on her bed and motioning for Nudge to sit next to her.

"Have you noticed Max acting…different?

"Well I have seen her writing things down and looking awa y and sometimes I can't get her attention no matter what I do. It's a bit weird but I haven't known her for that long so it could just be her trying to relax and think but it seems to be more than that. Why have you noticed anything?"

"Well I keep on seeing her write things down. And a few times I looked to see what they said…"

"Well, what did they say?"

"They were just a bunch of numbers. They were spaced out weird, like some were below others and some were nearly off the page. It was…strange."

"Hmmm…that is strange but maybe it's just something that means something to her, like the numbers represent something to her. Like a name or an important date she doesn't want to forget."

"Maybe…" Nudge said looking out the window and into the forest. She blinked and looked back out at the forest. She could have sworn she saw three pairs of eyes. The color was an orange-red, moving around the iris…almost like fire.

~End of Flashback~

So when I looked back at the paper in the forest I realized that the numbers must correspond somehow and maybe that was the key she left for us to figure out what the numbers meant." Nudge explained.

"But, the numbers don't really match up with the ones on the note. The numbers are spaced out in different ways so I don't know what she was trying to do by writing the numbers down." Ella said and sighed dejectedly.

"Can I see that for a minute?" I asked. I had an idea, it was a farfetched one but it might work. And I'll take anything I can get right now. I sat down at the kitchen table and pulled the papers towards me. I put the ones that Ella and nudge made aside and focused on the one that Max wrote.

I looked at one of the numbers it read: 10 467 471647 465 000

818 0495 3495 18000

I looked at the paper that max wrote and focused on a single section with numbers close to the one on the slip of paper.

The section numbers read: 1 8437 1038 60183 4751000

8 46273 047283 04959 265 000

I put the two lines together and it read: 108437467103847601834654751000

8184627304728304959349526518000

I realized the numbers created a pattern, with three zeros at the end. I told the rest of the guys what I was doing and they sat down next to me. Soon we were all trying to de scramble the mess that Max left us. Even Dr.M and Ella were helping.

I decided it then.

There was no going back.

We were going to save Max, no matter how hard it was got to end up being.

We were going to save her.

Max P.O.V.

I was running on hot colas for the 34th time that day. she beat her previous record and the white coat nodded at the cup of water on the table beside him. I grabbed it and drank it all in one sip. My whole body was sore and all I wanted to do was to go lay down.

"All right Maximum, now we are going to test your wing speed." The whitecoat said toe me walking away. I followed him and we walked into a huge room. There were many machines and a tall ceiling. Sadly there were no windows.

"Maximum, fly to that side of the room and back only trying half way. I didn't want them to know how much stronger I've gotten. All they would do was use it against me. It works out better for me and my flock and gives us an element of surprise witch is a huge advantage in a fight.

They recorded how fast they think I can fly and I sighed. We did more and more tests and I honestly lost count of all the different types of tests.

"Here's the two last test's of the day." The whitecoat said. I looked over at the weights and grimaced. Strength testing, great. I did whatever they told me to do. I'm not sure how long the test's took but it felt like they would never end.

"Here's the last test. A fight against an eraser." The scientist said pointing down to a man with his back turned towards me. I smirked his was the best of the day. I get to knock out and eraser. Said eraser turned around and looked at me and luckily I lept my poker face up. But the gears were turning in my head. and I swore that there was smoke coming out of my ears.

"Ari...you're an eraser?"

Oooh a cliffey! Hopefully I will be able to post soon! Thank you so much for reading and please review. Also tell me what you think about the techinique with the numbers. Tell me if anything was confusing or I didn't explain something well. I'll try and go back and fix it. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me. Well that's it for this chapter. Hope to have you reading the next one! Bye for now!
