Before the Epilogue.
Decisions to Be Made.
Later that Afternoon.
Ron had just finished his daily routine and was walking down the stairs when he smelt something odd, it was by no means unpleasant, simply different. His curiosity piqued and his stomach rumbling, he followed his stomach and nose into the kitchen where he saw Harry sitting at the kitchen table talking to Neville.
However that was not the strange part, the strange part was instead of seeing his plump mother in the kitchen waving her wand and making preparations for lunch. His beautiful French sister in law in the kitchen wand in hand preparing lunch for the Weasley family.
As he entered the kitchen he become extremely interested in the way that Fleur prepared the food and the ingredients. He noticed that her style differed from his mother's whereas His mother normally had all the ingredients in a neat little order and had them marching like soldiers in formation. Fleur's cooking seemed to have a more musical theme to it, her wand acting like the stick of a maestro leading an orchestra.
After greeting his friends and biting into and savoring the roast beef sandwich that Fleur had put in front of him he blatantly realized that he was within 3 feet of his half-Veela sister in law and realized that not only him, but neither harry or Neville were affected by her magic. Despite racking his brain for an answer he couldn't figure it out, so he decided to ask the source. "Hey Fleur, if you don't mind can I ask you a question?"
Fleur turned back from her cooking and smiled and said "Mais oui (Why yes), Ron what would you like to ask me?" Ron chewed on his sandwich slowly and thoughtfully trying to frame his answer in a proper way "before I ask I am sorry if it sounds crude but I have been wondering about this for a while now, why is it that your Veela magic doesn't affect us as strongly as before, specifically me?"
Fleur smiled softly and speaking in perfect English said "I was wondering when you would ask the question? The reason my Veela magic no longer strongly affects you is because unlike previously you are now confident enough in your masculinity and are in a healthy relationship because of this your mind is stronger and is no longer affected by the illusion that my Veela magic causes on the male psyche."
Neville sniggered at Ron's surprised reaction and said "wow Ron, it seems that finally hooking up with Hermione has caused many far reaching positive consequences for you, speaking of Hermione where is she?" looking around the kitchen "in fact Neither Ginny nor Lune seem to be in the house where are they? I don't see them."
They're in the back yard practicing their dueling with mum, ever since Fred's funeral, she gets very depressed if she is left alone for long periods of time, so everybody is trying to keep her busy. The girls have been key in helping her channel her grief and anger into teaching. So the girls got together and convinced her to help them improve their dueling skills. Meanwhile Fleur has been learning how to cook typical British food while at the same time teaching her how to cook delicious Gourmet French food."
Neville nodded his head and in a serious tone said "the girls have the right Idea, dueling with Ron's mom will greatly improve their own skills, and might just make the difference in a life or death scenario. Merlin knows there are still a bunch of cowards out there who think that attacking women is the height of bravery and skill. It's a good thing the Minister opened a new dueling center that allowed many witches and wizards learn basic dueling, and ever since those three girls aced the exam they have been allowed to practice magic even though they are not yet 17 years of age."
As Neville spoke Ron and Harry could see that he seemed to be gripping the table a bit more tightly and his laughing chocolate brown eyes turned murky brown. However before they could say anything Neville took a deep breath and let it out slowly before speaking again "You know I don't envy you Harry, I finally understood last year how you felt when people would expect you to have a solution or an answer, and not only that but to have the burden of being everyone's you guys left last year, everybody looked to Ginny, Luna and I to have all the answers and to be strong against the Carrows, and we tried our best, sometimes it was enough and sometimes it wasn't. I think not only me but every one of us has had to do a whole lot of growing up in the past one year but I have a feeling I still have a lot more to do."
Harry and Ron murmured agreement and again the boys ate in silence for a few minutes each thinking their own thoughts. The silence of the kitchen was suddenly interrupted by the loud crack of someone apparating into the kitchen. The teenagers were forced out of their thoughts by the appearance of Kreacher the house-elf. Who seemed to be tired but happy nonetheless as he greeted his master and his friends.
Harry smiled when he saw Kreacher and said "hey Kreacher how are you? You seem tired why don't you have a seat and drink some water and have some food with us?"
Kreacher bowed before his master and said "greetings master Harry, Kreacher thanks Master Harry for his kindness but unfortunately Kreacher does not have much time for greetings. As you requested Master Harry I have informed the Headmistress that you and Masters Ron and Neville wish to speak to her about something. Unfortunately the Headmistress has been extremely busy over the last week and was unable to entertain your request, however The Headmistress has asked Kreacher to send for Master harry and his friends as she is now free to speak with them."
Harry nodded his head and said "thanks Kreacher, we appreciate the message, can you wait for 15 minutes while we change our clothes and finish our breakfast? In the meanwhile I want you to sit at the kitchen table and ask Fleur to give you a glass of cold milk and a couple of her Roast Chicken sandwiches, you look like you have been working nonstop, you might as well take a break."
Kreacher nodded his head and said "As you wish Master Harry."
While Kreacher was sitting at the table eating the sandwiches, the girls had just finished their dueling session and were walking towards the house their clothes torn and faces caked with sweat and blood, but looking oddly relaxed. "So what do you think about Muggle Dueling mom, isn't it interesting?" Molly had a tired smile on her face as she answered her daughter. "Oh yes, I must admit Ginny that Muggles have a very interesting way of Dueling." Hermione laughed and said "With all due respect Mrs. Weasley, it's not called dueling its called Martial Arts, and there are many different types of Martial arts in the world."
Molly smiled and said "that is very nice Hermione dear, while I appreciate you telling me about all this I am afraid it is all going all over my head. I am afraid I am too old a witch to learn new dueling skills, but why don't you teach Ginny and Luna these skills I am sure it will come in handy for them what with them being war Heroines I am sure they will have many boys trying to impress and vying for their attention."
Before Hermione could reply Ginny said "what my mum is trying to say is that because we are now famous, there will a plethora of boys trying to get in our knickers and she wants Hermione to teach us so that we know how to defend ourselves against boys who believe that they may do what they feel like with us, without any repercussions."
Molly Exclaimed loudly "Ginevra must you be so crass, you are a young woman after all, and you should at least act like one." As if to torture her mother even more Ginevra said in a pseudo innocent voice "But mum Harry loves it when I talk dirty, especially when I whisper them in his ear at the..."
Molly had a blush on her cheeks as she spoke sternly "That is enough Ginny, while I appreciate that that Harry and you are comfortable in your relationship with each other he is still like a son to me and I do not need to know the ponderings of hormone driven teenagers. I would also suggest you not to tease him so much I can tell that boy is still entirely unsure on how to act with you when he is around us and he does not need you tormenting him any more than he already is."
Luna in her usual dreamy tone said "I believe that is exactly what Ginny is trying to do, she is trying to see how far she can tempt Harry. I believe the term for it is being a tease."
Molly smiled kindly and stepping back into the house said "I understand that you girls are trying to have fun with the boys by trying to get a rise from them, but remember while it might be fun at times it can be very stressful for the boys, if taken too far it might result into a situation where neither of you are prepared to face or ready for. Despite how enjoyable it seems at the time."
While Molly took the stairs to take a shower the girls entered the kitchen to grab a snack Ginny was about to say something to Luna when she was interrupted by Kreacher bowing low and saying "greetings Mistress Ginny, how may Kreacher serve you?"
Ginny smiled kindly and patting Kreacher's head said "Oh hey Kreacher, how are things at Hogwarts going? I assume you're here to pick up the guys for their meeting with McGonagall right?"
Kreacher nodded his head his green ears flopping. "Yes,is mistress Ginny pleased with the Elf Magic that Kreacher has used upon her house? If Mistress Wishes Kreacher can add more charms in place, Kreacher has been appointed as Leader of the House-Elves of Hogwarts. Headmistress says that I have helped her strengthen the walls of the school with ancient Elf magic.
She tells us Elves to work hard and to take pride in our work but is always kind to us. The Headmistress is strict but fair, she says she wants us House-elves to be her comrades and her equal. Why does the Headmistress want to be our Friend Mistress Ginny? We House-elves have always been treated unfairly by Wizards before?"
Ginny had a sad smile on her face as she bent down to Kreacher's level and said "Well Kreacher you see thanks to the efforts of your Master Regulus and Master Harry, Wizards and witches have been unkind to House-elves and other magical creatures and they have suffered as a result of it. So now the Headmistress wants the Magical world to know that not only House-Elves but every single Magical creature should be treated equally." Ginny suddenly had an idea and decided to run with it. "Kreacheryou have been instrumental in helping keep my Family safe and for that you have both my thanks and the thanks of my family. From now on, I want you to consider yourself as part of my family."
Kreacher was smiling through his tears as he thanked Ginny for her kindness as she bent down to talk with the House-Elf the front two buttons on her blouse inadvertently popped open giving anyone who wished to a great view of her ample breasts. Harry who was the first one to come down the stairs saw Ginny talking with Kreacher and was clearly able to see down Ginny's blouse.
Seeing Ginny in that position made something snap in his mind and he suddenly had an evil look in his eyes and a smirk on his face as he motioned for the girls to remain quiet as crept up behind Ginny. Once he was behind her he spoke in a booming voice "Oi Ginny I don't appreciate you showing your cleavage to others, your cleavage is only for me to see!"
Ginny jumped up in surprise atHarry's angry voice and was even more surprised when her jeans clad bum made contact with his crotch. The Intimate contact immediately caused Harry's Trousers to Tent and push against her bum.
She turned towards Harry in surprise and said "Harry what are you... oomph" Her words were interrupted by Harry's mouth crashing on hers, However before she could even melt into the kiss Harry's strong arms wrapped around her waist and using her own body's momentum turned her around so hard that her breasts crashed into his rock hard chest.
Suddenly breaking the passionate kiss he quickly wrapped his lips around a spot just above the base of her neck and using his teeth to cause a small bit of pain and kissed her neck, Ginny was in heaven she could no longer move and was reduced to grabbing a fistful of Harry's Jet black hair in each of her fists as she held on for the release of the wave of pleasure that was slowly building inside her.
Unfortunately Harry had other plans he brought Ginny to the absolute crest of pleasure, and just as Ginny was about to come from the pleasure, Harry suddenly took his lips of her neck and pecked Hermione and Luna on the cheek before grabbing hold of Kreacher's shoulder and said "Bye girls see you later, I Love you 's go Kreacher time to can come back for Ron and Neville Later." Before Ginny could do more than just realize what had happened Harry was grinning wickedly as he disappeared into thin air."
Just as Harry disappeared with the house-elf, Ginny suddenly realized what had happened however by that time it was too late as Harry had already left. "Ooh that Harry Potter what the hell does he think he is doing, in the past few weeks he has gotten really sneaky, I hate him! He knew I would be high on adrenaline and would be susceptible to his tricks. How dare he get me all aroused and then not finish the job, ooh I am going togive that boy a new scar the next time I see him!"
She then turned to Ron and said "Ron, your my big brother do something about this, your best friend Harry Potter has caused me undue stress to my virtue, it is your duty as my brother to beat him senseless!"
Ron was sitting at the kitchen table calmly eating his food waiting for Kreacher's return, he looked at Ginny with a look of pity and said "Normally I would be inclined to agree with you on this Gin, but unfortunately I have to side with Harry on this one. You have been going too far in tempting the bloke, he had to crack sometime although I am surprised it took him so long. He then turned to Hermione and said "what is that Muggle adage you told me about once you reap what you sow?"
Ginny opened her mouth to say something but she was interrupted by Kreacher's appearance "greetings Mistress Ginny, Master Harry has asked me to deliver this message to you."
Ginny took the folded piece of paper from him and read it silently.
Dear Ginny,
I hope you enjoyed that little prank as much as I did, I'm sorry sweetheart but you pushed me too far, but If you behave like a good girl and ask me nicely I might finish what I started. Just so we are clear no matter how much you tempt me, you will not get what you most desire before your 17th birthday. So just remember that if you continue your lovely antics, that two can play the same game.
Love you dearly
Harry "The Chosen One" Potter
Luna was reading the message aloud over Ginny's shoulder which caused even more laughter. Ginny was fuming mad but most of it was an act, she was happy to see that Harry was now comfortable enough with their relationship to show public displays of affection the fact that he was once again using sarcasm and dry wit when speaking about their relationship was proof of she read the message she caught the hidden message that Harry had given her. Harry would no longer care what her brothers thought or said about their relationship, it also meant that he would no longer react to their threats.
She looked at Kreacher and said "Thanks Kreacher, tell Harry I received his message." She then returned to Ron and Neville who had their hands on Kreacher's shoulder and said "Take care guys and be careful. I will see you later." She then turned to Luna and Hermione and said "ok the break is over, let's go back out and practice that Martial arts you were talking about, thanks to my sarcastic prat of a boyfriend I now have to find another outlet for my frustration."
Hermione and Luna were once again laughing their heads off as they followed Ginny out the kitchen door.
A few minutes later
Ron, Neville and Harry were walking up to the Gates of Hogwarts accompanied by Kreacher. As they walked towards the Headmistress's office, they saw that all the house elves were at work fortifying the castle walls, and alongside them were the professors of Hogwarts, wands in hand assisting the housel eves where they could.
Neville was the first to speak and said "Hermione would be happy to see this, she has always said that house-elves deserve to be recognized as more than servants, hopefully then ending of this war will bring some good with it."
The two boys grunted agreement with their they were walking to McGonagall's office, Horace Slughorn had just come out of the Dungeons with a house elf in tow, both of them hovering large cauldrons of potions which were sloshing around the sides of the cauldrons but not a single drop fell out.
Horace caught sight of the three Teenagers and said "ah how good to see you boys, have come to see me for some advice. If so I am afraid I am extremely busy at the moment, you should have sent an owl ahead and…"
Harry Interrupted Him and said "uh thanks professor, but we are actually here to see ProfessorMcGonagall not you, we wanted to discuss something important with her."
Horace's smile suddenly faltered for a few seconds and the cauldron he was levitating with his wand suddenly dropped a few inches before the House elf used his own magic to keep the cauldron steady. Unfortunately a few drops spilled out of the cauldron and fell onto the ground barely Missing Ron's foot by a centimetre, as it fell it caused a loud hiss and the place where it burned a hole three inches deep into the concrete pavement.
Ron stifled a curse and said "Watch it you old codger, what is that thing anyway and why are you carrying it around in the open like that?"
Horace laughed heartily and said "That Mr. Weasley is a very complex and powerful potion that eats away at all attempts of Magical concealment and also renders the person totally paralyzed while at the same time causing them to relive their worse memories. Unfortunately the potion is still not complete, I still need VenomousTactula seeds, root of Mandrake and leaf of a Dittany Plant that needs to be added at a specific time during the potion making process. The house elf next to him pulled lightly at his robe and said "Potions master we still have much work to do."
Horace Slughorn smiled good-naturedly and said "indeed you are correct my dear house-elf we must be off. I shall see you soon boys." He then bid a hasty goodbye to his students and walked on at a brisk pace with the tiny house-elf running to catch up to him.
A few minutes later
After the three friends reached the Stone Gargoyle that once again stood guard over the door to the Headmaster's office, or in this case the Headmistress's office. The three friends looked at each other silently asking the same question. Ron could not take the silence anymore and finally asked the obvious question so are we all convinced that we have made the correctdecision?
The boys each had a pensive look on their face as they nodded their head. Harry looked at the Gargoyle and said the password: "Ginger Biscuits." The Gargoyle suddenly came to life and as he slid to the side to reveal the spiralling staircase to McGonagall's office. While the others started up the staircase Harry turned to Kreacher and said "Why don't you come with us Kreacher, I am sure the Headmistress would like to see you as well." Kreacher nodded his head and followed his master up the staircase. When the friends reached the top of the stairs they knocked on the door.
When they were given permission the three friends entered the office to see Minerva McGonagall sitting in the chair that used to once belong to Albus Dumbledore. Minerva looked up from the parchment she was reading and seeing her former students standing at the door waiting for permission to enter.
She smiled briefly and ushered the three boys into her office. Once the three friends were seated they finally got a good look at their former head of house and could see that she had recently been under a lot of stressevident by the bags under her eyes.
Unable to restrain himself and if only to try and break the heavy silence in the room Neville blurted out what was on his mind "You don't look so good Professor, are you ok? You look like you just finished duelling ten rounds with Grawp the Giant and lost." Neville suddenly realised what he had said and tried to backtrack as his friends were trying not laugh. "N-not t-to m-mean t-that you don't look good…. I-I m-mean I-it's not like I-I e-ever s-saw you in that way…."
Ron and Harry could no longer keep from laughing and started giggling uncontrollably as they clutched their stomachs, making no attempt to help their friend out of the deep hole he had dug for himself. The former headmasters were of mixed minds of whether to be outraged or laugh at the poor boy. All except Dumbledore who was laughing softly in his portrait. Neville's face had turned crimson red as he looked at the expression of his head of house, finally he shut up and after taking a deep breath said in a defeated voice "oh just forget it, just turn me into a toad already."
McGonagall took her wand but instead of pointing it at Neville she pointed it at her cluttered desk and said "Evanasco." With her desk cleared McGonagall looked at Neville and said "I have no intent on turning you into an amphibian or any other animal for that matter Mr. Longbottom, while your sentence structure and wording could have used some work your concern was noted and touching. I appreciate that you are concerned for my wellbeing and health.
While my new job has been made all the more difficult by the mess left behind by the Carrows, getting things into working order has indeed been challenging however it has been a good challenge and had it not been by the efforts of you three young men this war would still be ongoing. You have proven to the Wizarding world at large that the time has come for the younger generation to speak and the older Generation to listen, you called for his meeting gentlemen so I shall allow you to speak while I listen."
The three boys were thunderstruck at her words and were rendered speechless but Ron was the first one to recover and said "your joking right, I mean sure we went through hell and back but that doesn't mean it's time for us to lead. I mean compared to your experience and power we are not even baby chicks out of their eggs. Besides haven't you always told us to listen to our elders and all that stuff? I mean the only reason we were able to win the war was because of a few lucky breaks and you and the other adults guiding us."
The Headmistress smiled and said " You Disbelieve me Mr. Weasley, but as I told you in your home a few weeks ago it is Human Nature to err, however it is what we do to rectify those mistakes that counts, as for luck… well luck is always part of life and battle. You have all earnedmy respect long ago Mr. Weasley. However I am sure you have other more important things to discuss with me so let us start."
The three boys were once again struck dumb by McGonagall's words, they all knew her very well and knew that she was not one to give praise lightly. This gave them the courage to speak openly without intimidation. Harry was the one to speak this time and said "professor you have no idea how much your words mean to us, I mean you have been our head of house for six years and in many ways you know us much better than ourselves. I am sure you know why exactly we have asked for this meeting: as you know today is the last day of the time limit that was given to those Hogwarts students who had either were 17 or older at the time of the battle of Hogwarts to decide whether they wish to continue their Hogwarts education or join the Auroras department. While we three have made our decisions we all agreed that we owed you the respect and courtesy to tell you or decisions in person."
Minerva looked on at her students with a blank face but inside her heart seemed to cry with bittersweet happiness as she realised how much her students respected her and cared for her, this thought also brought along the realization of the fact of how many students, family members and friends she had lost over the years. When she spoke her voice cracked slightly and said "I appreciate you coming in person gentlemen, now which one of you would like to start first or will I have to choose."
Neville smiled good-naturedly and said "No professor you don't have to choose, I would like to go first: looking his headmistress straight in the eyes Neville spoke clearly and confidently albeit with some regret. "Professor I have decided NOT to continue my education at Hogwarts and instead take up the Minister on his offer of joining the Aurors. This decision was not taken lightly professor I assure you I have weighed the pros and cons and even discussed my decision with both my grand mum as well as professor Sprout before making my decision. It was not an easy decision to make especially when faced with the consequences both good and bad of my decisions."
Minerva and everyone else both living and dead stayed silent while Neville spoke. Neville continued his rant and said " Professor my parents were tortured into insanity by that cold blooded bitch Bellatrix Lestrange and for years that thought has haunted me and made me feel helpless that I am of no use, what good am I to anyone if I counteven save my mom and dad. But this battle and Professor Sprout have helped me realise that I am not helpless or weak in fact if anything I am powerful not because of my blood status, not because of who my parents were.
I am powerful because of the choices I made and I saw those results at the battlefield when the sword of Gryffindor appeared inside the sorting hat and allowed me to slay Nagini. I saw the results when Voldermort and his followers were unable to control me. I have decided that I want to join the Aurors not because my parents were Aurors or because I am on some misguided path for revenge. No I want to join the Aurors because if I can make the wizarding world a safer place by preventing in some small way even from another child losing his parents and family to dark wizards and their cowardly ways then I shall do so even at the cost of my life."
Minerva was struck silent by Neville's words and could not help it as a few stray tears escaped her eyes. "Neville Longbottom, when I first saw you in those lines of first years shivering from the cold waiting to be sorted, I saw you for what you truly were: A diamond in the rough, when you were sorted into my house I tried my best to shape your remarkable talent into something more, although I was disappointed that you never had much of a talent for Transfiguration I was happy to see that you excelled in the study of Herbology and along the way you found a few good friends who were able to shape you into the diamond that I knew you would someday become. I am proud to say that you have today "
While Neville sat in his chair and pondered these words Minerva turned to Ron and harry and said who would like to go next Mr Weasley or Mr. Potter?" there was a silence in the room as both Harry and Ron had an uncomfortable expression on their faces, an expression which was slowly turning to suspicion. The Headmistress astute as she was smiled at the confusion that her students was facing turning to Dumbledore she said "Tell me Albus am I truly that strict and too few with my praises that when I praise my students, they would think of me as an imposter?"
Dumbledore chuckled in his portrait as he answered the question "well I must admit Headmistress you are very strict and are not quick to praise your students, because of your high expectations of your students and because very few students are able to reach your expectations, when you praise your students it makes them suspicious."
McGonagall turned to her students and with a twinkle in her eye she suddenly changed into her animagus form of a cat and let out a meow before changing back. "I presume I have convinced you two that I am in fact the real Minerva McGonagall?" seeing the boys nod their heads dumbly she continued; "I might seem harsh to my students gentlemen, but it is not because I don't care for you, on the contrary I care deeply for my students, and expect great things from them because although they may not see it within themselves, I see it clear as day." Her eyes looking at each of her students before settling on Ron.
Ron was tempted to look away from McGonagall's piercing gaze, however something within him told him that he should not look away lest he fail to learn something important, and so he held her gaze for a few more seconds until she smiled and nodded her head and said "so tell me Mr. Weasley what is your decision, will you stay or will you leave?"
Ron had a determined look on his face and said "before I answer that question professor I have a question for Professor Dumbledore. Turning towards the portrait of Dumbledore he looked at him straight in the eye and uttered a single word "why?"
Dumbledore smiled knowingly, his eyes twinkling as he said "yes, indeed Mr. Weasley why is the question you should be asking. Indeed the deluminator I gave you was one of my own creation, it was during one of my more creative moments. Indeed the deluminator had been created to extinguish light from its surroundings, however during one of my many excursions into the Muggle world I read a newspaper article of a lost sailor who had found his way home by following the North Star.
I was intrigued at how this piece of information and after consulting Professor Sinistra I understood that the North star in comparison to its brethren stars' apparent positions in the sky change throughout the night, as they appear to rotate around the celestial poles, pole stars' apparent positions remain virtually fixed.
This makes them especially useful in celestial navigation: they are a dependable indicator of the direction toward the respective geographic pole although not exact; they are virtually fixed."
Ron had an incredulous look on his face and said "so what you're saying is that while other stars move around during the night the Pole stars do not;
I know that too but how does that answer my question." Dumbledore laughed softly and said "Patience Mr. Weasley I am getting to that in a moment, after researching about the Pole star and the Deluminator a bit more I decided to combine the two together. I believed that if a Deluminator could take away light in order to hide the position of a person it could also unleash light to show the presence of a person most sought. However it wasn't until your 5th year that I finally perfected it, and so with some powerful enchantments and magic I created my deluminator. However I was still unsure of what to do with it, that is until a conversation I had with Harry in your mother's broom closet about telling you and Ms. Granger about Lord Voldermort's past."
"Believe it or not Mr. Weasley I saw much of myself within you when I was your age. We each had our doubts and insecurities that led us astray temporarily, my mistakes led to the death of my sister Ariana, I did not want you to suffer the same fate. For many days I watched you closely and saw how you pined for Ms. Granger but were too scared to admit the truth, how you were sometimes intimidated by your best friend because of who he was."
"Besides that I also saw your deep love and loyalty you held to your family. Although I knew you were a loyal friend to Harry and would never lead his side of your own free will, I feared that if such a time came and you were forced to make a choice, I fearedyou may make the wrong one like I did when I wore Marvolo Gaunt's ring in hopes fo seeing my long lost sister, and if such a time came I wanted you to have a way to reach your friends, and so I bequeathed my deluminator to you after my death, not because I was afraid that you would make a wrong choice, but because I was confident that you would make the correct choice."
Ron had an unreadable expression on his face and he was silent for many seconds before he spoke "I can think of many words and things I want to say to right now professor Dumbledore not a single one of them flattering, however I will admit this much that for better or for worse everything played out as it was supposed to so for now thanks for giving me a chance to get back to Hermione and though it caused me great pain and regret to leave them in the first place and even though I might not like it it's a truth that I will have to deal with."
He then turned to Minerva and said "in answer to that question professor, I am afraid that I won't be staying, I will leave Hogwarts too and enlist in the Auror academy to become an Auror. Ever since 4th year when the fake Alastor Moody had told us that we could become aurors I have thought about nothing else as a career choice.
At first I thought it was because Harry wanted to be an Auror or because it was a cool job, but later I realised that I wanted to become an Auror because after seeing my sister taken into the chamber of secrets, my father being bitten by a demonous snake, and losing my older brother in battle, not to mention going through all kinds of hell to just survive.
It has made me realise that I want to do something meaningful in my life. I want to honour my Brother's memory by fighting the dark wizards that act like a virus. I realise that I may never be as good as Alastor Moody, Tonks or any other Auror.
Hell I am not even as good as Harry when it comes to duelling. Even if it means I will be at best a second rate Auror, I want to do the best I can in helping rid this world of cowards who practise the Dark Arts."
Harry looked at Ron with an expression of exasperation and said "oh come on Ron not that again why do you always have to doubt your own abilities, you're a great dueller in your own right, and not to mention you're the one with the plans, if it hadn't been for you in first year we wouldn't have crossed the Chess Board without your help. In second year you faced Aragon in the Forest of Death to despite your fear of spiders in order to learn about the Chamber of Secrets.
In third Year you faced a werewolf and lived to tell the tale, in fourth Year you stuck by me when I told the world that Voldermort was back despite knowing that I would be doubted at best and shunned at worst. In fifth Year you followed me on a Thestral to department of Mysteries and you fought not one, not two, not three but twelve Death eaters.
In sixth Year you again battled Death Eaters at Hogwarts and protected the other students. As for the last year your acts of skill and bravery are too many for me to count, I really do not understand why you always have to tear yourself down."
Before Ron could respond with an argument Minerva spoke "Mr Potter is right Mr. Weasley, you are only as strong as you believe yourself to be, and your problem is not your lack of magical power or your duelling abilities. The problem is your own self-confidence.
However despite your self-confidence issues you were able to perform remarkable feats that very few people could even think of matching. I would be very interested to see what you could truly be capable of when you finally stop doubting your own capabilities."
Seeing Ron' disbelieving look The Headmistress sighed and said "Your mother once told me something very interesting Mr. Weasley: we are what others imagine us to be. This is a fact that holds true not only for people but also for gods.
Being a Pure blood you might not know much about Greek and Roman Mythology, so I will explain to you. Many centuries ago the Greek and Roman Civilisation were two of the largest and strongest civilisations of their time, like many civilisations they had their own customs, rules and gods.
One of their gods being Athena and Minerva. Although the Greeks were the Precursors to the Romans, when the Romans had conquered The Greeks they had also assimilated most of their culture into their own and even adopted the Greek gods although they called them by different names and envisioned them in different forms.
Although they were the same gods they were envisioned differently Rome being more militaristic and disciple envisioned their Gods in a similar light, as a result many of the gods became more disciple and militaristic. Athena was the exception however.
Athena was the Greek virgin goddess of wisdom, handicrafts, useful arts, and battle strategy. Athena was the goddess of ferocious and implacable fights.
She is a much disciplined, quick thinking, and wise goddess. She was very brilliant and always took precautions before acting. In short she was the Greek Goddess of war and Military strategy because this is how the Greeks envisioned her.
However In her Roman form Minerva was the goddess of wisdom and crafts. Unlike her Greek counterpart Athena, Minerva lost most of her war skill and instead was a goddess of crafts. This goddess represented the application of intellect to everyday tasks. As the goddess of wisdom she was accredited with inventing spinning, weaving, numbers, and music. She was also the patron of goddess of medicine."
Ron had a thoughtful look on his face as he replied "so what your saying is that I actually have talent and am good at something besides making a fool of myself and I have to stop letting my low self-esteem get in the way of my growth?"
McGonagall almost laughed out loud but held back and said "something like that Mr. Weasley, you must decide for yourself whether you are Minerva or Athena. Although I must say that you possess many qualities that I prize in my students, Loyalty, quick thinking, sense of humour and many more.
Although I accept your decision, I will be sad to see you go. You would have an excellent Head Boy." Seeing Ron's shocked expression she chuckled and said "I never thought I would see the day, a Weasley struck speechless. Perhaps the next time I meet you we might just get to play that game of Chess you wanted. I have a feeling you will make an excellent opponent."
She then looked at Harry and said "it seems you are the last one left Mr. Potter, what is your decision will you stay or will you leave? You always said that Hogwarts was always a home for you, so will you stay home for one more year or will you leave the nest to roam through the open skies."
Harry grinned at McGonagall and said "you seem to be getting Poetic in recent times Professor, if I didn't know better I would say you were starting to crack under all this pressure."
The head mistress of Hogwarts smiled slightly and said "I assure you Mr. Potter, I am of sound mind, now please tell me your decision, I have many other matters to attend to as well, will you stay or will you leave Hogwarts forever."
Harry had a serious look on his face as he spoke "I am afraid I won't be staying either Professor, although Hogwarts has been my home for many years now I am afraid that it is no longer the home it once was and Hogwarts now has nothing left to offer me.
I have decided that also want to join the Aurors, but I am afraid at the same time about being on my own, I mean previously whenever I got into some kind of trouble or if I was in the middle of a group of Death Eaters.
I at least had Ron and Hermione to back me up, it sometimes makes me wonder how good I would be if I was alone without anyone to help me."
Minerva McGonagall looked at Harry over her spectacles and said "Mr. Potter the doubts you are having are Natural, up until now whenever you have been in difficult situations your friends have been beside you helping you, however it is now time to learn what you can do alone.
However always remember Mr. Potter, even as an Auror you will rarely act alone and will mostly act as a team, however the Auror academy will still help you learn how to fend for yourself alone and rely on your own abilities to come out of a difficult situation."
Harry looked at McGonagall and said "I am scared Professor, I am scared I am making a mistake, what if I am making a mistake, what if I make the wrong choice."
McGonagall looked at Harry and said "It is good to feel scared Mr. Potter even the best of us feel fear, fear is a healthy emotion, a healthy amount of fear tells us where the limits are, however fear is also a hurdle that we must cross in order to truly reach our true potential.
Now before I end this meeting I have a gift for all of you, when you three sent me a message saying you wanted to speak to me, I realised that you three most likely wanted to tell me that you were leaving, I knew that you felt you owed me an explanation for your decisions, so I decided that since you three felt you owed me your allegiance and fealty.
I felt I owed you a reward for thinking me worthy of your loyalty." She then took out a dozen envelopes and separated them into stacks of four each, she then handed each of the boys 4 envelopes each and said "This gentlemen is a letter of recommendation that was written and signed by Professors Flitwick, Sprout, Slughorn and myself for each of you."
THz three boys were struck dumb and McGonagall was happy to see she had finally rendered her students speechless. "I have respected your decisions Gentlemen, you have each done and sacrificed much to ensure that the wizarding world remain safe. It's high time we repay the favour and these letters of recommendation are just the small token of our appreciation that is my decision and I ask you to respect it just as I respected yours."
A/N: Ok Guys and Gals first off sorry for the delay, it has been a very long time since I last posted but unfortunately life in the real world has go ten very hectic, what with working overtime and getting a promotion. Life has been hectic hopefully the next update will be sooner, but I make no promises. Some of you might object to the way I portrayed the characters within this chapter. If so I apologise but the characters are mine to manipulate as I see fit. A couple of things I want to get out of the way.
I am writing these chapters on the fly, i.e. the story has no set time line chapters my vary from scenes from the same day to many weeks later, so get used to it.
As I mentioned in my previous chapters I will be taking inspiration from my two favourite subjects Mythology and Martial arts. So this chapter contained a bit of both I hope you liked it.
The bit about the Roman and Greek forms of Athena/Minerva are true. For those of you who do not know I will give you a small history lesson. Once upon a time Greece was all powerful and so were their gods, then after many years Rome came to power and defeated Greece and in doing so adopted their gods. Zeus became Jupiter, Poseidon became Neptune and Hades became Pluto such not only their names but also the way that they were imagined changed as rom being more disciplined. Most of my inspiration for this came from Rick Riordan's recently completed Percy Jackson series.
I have shown in this chapter that Hermione was teaching Mrs. Weasley Martial Arts, I brought in there because I wanted to show that Hermione was trying to help her friends rely not only on their magical abilities but also on their physical abilities,
I also showed that Luna and Ginny were openly practising magic while at the Burrow despite being underage, the reason for this is that since the aftermath of The war the Minister had given special permission to those who participated in the war to use magic freely even though they were not yet 17 years of age until such time that Hogwarts had reopened on the condition that they abide by the statute of secrecy and other pertaining laws.
I also showed that Veela magic no longer affects Ron, I am not sure exactly how it works but as per my understanding it seems to be some kind of illusion, and if the mind is strong enough it can resist and even see through illusion."
I also showed Harry as a bit of OOC in the beginning but I just wanted to reinforce the fact that as time slowly passed by Harry was starting to act like a normal teenager, and that included being sexually aroused by Ginny's sexual teasing.
The next two or three chapters will focus on and feature many events taking place simultaneously leading up to the start of the school year and Auror Training. I know there is still a bog plot hole about Hermione rescuing her parents from Australia I'm not sure how I will portray that but let us see how things unravel, if you get any ideas in the meantime then please leave a review or send me a pm.
I have received many comments about me not sticking to the personalities of the characters, to that I will answer this. I believe that a person's personality are not one dimensional or even two or three dimensional but are multidimensional and their personality can change because of significant events that happen in a person's life, and seeing the war was a significant event no one but the author can tell how much or how little the personalities of the characters have changed. Secondly unlike many of my fellow readers I am not such great fan of HP that I have studied very minute detail of the series. Although I am a fan and enjoyed the series thoroughly I am not always accurate with the facts despite my best efforts and research, so when and if such things occur please forgive this humble author and remember that like many of you I am also human and prone to error.
Last but not least I would like to thank everyone who read reviewed, favourite or followed my story, I thank you whole heartedly and wish you and yours a happy, safe and wise Holiday Season. Happy Holidays to one and all.
