The rest of July for Mia was full. Every second or third day she was back at the Ministry for some reason or another thought up by the lawyers, at one stage they were challenging for ownership of her vault at Gringotts. That petition had lasted a week of continuous attendance, numerous bank employees, and even the Minister himself at one stage after he learnt of it.
When she wasn't needed, Mia now spent her time wandering the departments of the Ministry, she really didn't need the stress and Lady Longbottom had pulled her aside on the first day to ask her if she would, the elderly witch knew that it was going to get very dirty.
The second day the Minister found her eating lunch in the employee cafeteria, Tonks had let her in, and sat down at her table, "Now what has brought you here on this bright day Mia?"
Recapping the starting debacle, Mia shrugged, "Lady Longbottom asked me to stay out as much as possible, gave me an alert bracelet for when I'm needed."
Again Cornelius struggled to keep his anger down and it took far longer this time but he soon had it, changing the subject to a better one, "I was going to get in touch with you actually."
"What for?"
"Well I was telling my wife about our talk and she agreed with your idea that I should get in touch with the other Ministries about my book. Seeing as we have a French representative in the building almost every day anyhow, I decided to approach her about it," his grin was large and proud, "She had no idea that I was the same person who wrote the book. Apparently when you go for your apparition license in France, you have to study my book."
"That's wonderful Neil," Mia was honestly happy he had found that out, it already showed that it had helped with his self-worth.
He grasped and squeezed her hand quickly, "And it's not only France. After hearing that, I got in touch with the International Confederation of Wizards, and every single country that purchased one of my books has made them required reading for apparition tests and also training for their own Magical Accidents and Catastrophe departments. It also came with letters from their various Gringotts branches. Apparently they were unaware that it was my book, not many people know my middle name is Oswald, so placed the money for every book they had published into bank accounts under Oswald Fudge. I've got a pretty Knut heading to my vault because of you."
"Thank yourself Neil, you were the one who wrote it. Are you going to have it added onto the British curriculum now that you know how influential it truly is?"
"It will be added for the coming term, but I have this one just for you, I was going to send it with the letter," he removed a brand new copy of his book and passed it over.
Mia ran her hands over the crisp cover before opening it and seeing that there was a message inside, 'To Mia, this was possible because you made a big enough impression onto an old man. I am in your debt, Neil.'
Before she could say that he wasn't, the man was on his feet and squeezing her hand once more, "Unfortunately I have to run Mia but remember what I said."
"Ok Neil," brown hair flew about as she shook her head in disbelief but she returned to her lunch and placed the book carefully into her satchel.
The last week of July brought two happy events, the motion for Mia's vault was thrown away in part to Fudge's surprise appearance, and the Weasley family won the Daily Prophet Jackpot prize. Ron was so proud and happy, he sent her the clipping from the paper of the family outside of the Great Pyramid, it had run on the front page of the newspaper.
Then on Neville's birthday a news announcement went over every media outlet, Muggle and magical. Sirius Black had escaped, the Muggles were told he was a mass murderer and should not be approached, to call the hotline given if he was seen. What everyone else was told was different. Black had been caught by the Aurors after killing 12 Muggles and Peter Pettigrew, laughing insanely. Thrown directly into Azkaban, no one had heard anything else about him since that day. He was still to not be approached, to alert the aurors if he was seen, to be observant.
Mia had been visiting Neville for the day when the announcements began, they were both aware of who he was other than just a murderer; he was the traitor who gave up the Potters' location to Voldemort. Augusta, or Gussie as she had told Mia to call her when outside of the courtroom, heard the news and gave a brief rundown of what she had heard.
Fudge had gone for his annual check of Azkaban, make sure things were still effective, and had come across Black's cell. The man had acted as sane as the Minister, even asking for his paper to do the crossword, it had freaked him out. Then for the past week he had been heard muttering that 'he' was at Hogwarts. People were certain that the person he meant was Harry, the last remaining member of the family he had tried to destroy.
"Utter bull if you ask me," Gussie said as she sipped her tea, "I knew the lot of them for years, the Marauders. James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, thick as thieves and good friends with my Frank, came around here all the time. There is no way that Sirius betrayed them, he was James' brother, the Potters had taken him in after his dark as night family kicked him to the streets when he was 16. He would have died before betraying him, and the idea that he would go after Harry. That baby was his life from the second he was born, I watched him sit in this very room with Frank once, they played peek-a-boo for 3 hours straight with you and Harry, Neville. He'd never hurt a hair on that boy's head, he's still his godfather even if a 'criminal'."
That gave the pair a lot to think about and when Mia returned home that night, she went in search of more information. The Flamels were involved in nearly all occupations about, and more than a few were in the Ministry, some even had ties in the British Ministry. Flicking through her mental library she found the ones that she knew would have an idea, and sent them all off a letter.
The responses were quick, not surprising, and they all came with one form of information or another. Violetta, a lawyer for the French Minister herself, sent the files that the Ministry had about the escapee, the copied file was about 2 inches thick. Adam, who married into the family, used to be an auror, worked with Sirius and James, and sent his memories for her to study, as well as getting some from his former colleagues. There were more memories sent, investigative reports that Juliette had done on the arrest back when it happened for the French papers, and a heap of background information that joined everything.
After reading and watching everything that she received, Mia had actually created another room in her mind. This one was dedicated solely to family trees and even had the Norse Yggdrasil etched as the symbol. All of the information was copied from other rooms, and it took her almost the entire night, which was extremely long when taking into account that an hour inside of the mind was equivalent to 15 minutes on the outside, but she finally had everything she knew at that moment set out.
She had more than just one tree up, there were those for the Longbottom, Potter, Black, Fudge, Flamel, Weasley, and Malfoy families there, but each was connected by at least one member. She had even placed Severus on there, he was connected through her family, his mother was a distant cousin of Zara's. It was fascinating as she looked at it all, it encompassed the room, different colours representing different things such as whether they were known Death Eaters, supporters, members of the Order of the Phoenix, Ministry members, dead, etc.
Touching one brought up a picture, if she had one, and as much information as she had collected about the person. It was ingenious and as she left her mind, rather tired, the only thing the teen could think was how much she wanted to show her potions professor.
