Chapter 11
I was in a cage; I looked around, remembering everyone falling down with darts. I looked around the small white room. It had a brown desk, which held notes on it and two backpacks, Sam's and Kathy's. There were about three phones on the desk too. The floor was tile, the roof was that stuff they put in schools, and the walls were white, two men were in the room. I was about to speak when I noticed cages around me. They were either made of iron or steel, across me was a cage, it was empty. There was about 5 feet between me and the empty cage beside it, on the right side of the cage was Sam, he was crunched up in the, I think 5 by 5 cage. I couldn't see who was next or across from him F.Y.I who would be on the right side of me, Sam was still knocked out. I was about to wake him, but a few sounds came out of my mouth I couldn't form the words. To the left side of the empty cage across from me Storm was awake, but I could tell he couldn't talk right now either. What did they plan to do? More where was Kathy? I felt so groggy I wanted to fall back to sleep, but I couldn't, had to find a way out. I curled up in my corner I had to think of something. Storm eyed me a few times like, "Do you remember this?" I would just shrug. My scarf, It was missing, I looked around and saw it on the desk with the backpacks. I knew this was more than an little experiment, this place was way too big, and people came in and out of the doors constant.
"Ok get project A out and test its pulse and compare it to a normal Jolteon," one said, he had red hair, and I don't mean the red head kind of hair I mean the solid color red. Another man he had been talking to, walked over to me, he had black hair.
"Ok I need to take your pulse," he said to me acting like I was stupid.
"I'm… not… stupid… don't… treat… me like a… kid…," I chocked walking over about to shock him when I walked over I noticed I wasn't limping any more, well that's a relief, compared to the other things happening of course. The man was surprised a bit. I tried to charge electricity, but nothing came, he reached thru the cage bars and grabbed me by the muzzle then shoved a muzzle guard on it. Then he opened the cage, he picked me up, I wanted to kick, but the tranquilizer still hadn't totally subsided so my leg moved in a walking motion. He sat me down on the table then put his hand under my neck.
"It seems regular," he said removing his hand. I growled I was regaining my voice and strength, but I still couldn't charge any electricity. The man then stuck a needle in me, he smiled. "That'll keep you from charging any electricity," What? Was he serious?
"Should we dose the others?" one asked.
"No we are short on the medicine, keep them for this one." He smiled at me, I growled. He walked me back over and put me in the cage.
"Hey, did they finish Darren's transition?" one asked, his transition, oh no, he didn't escape, they caught him!
"I think, he is probably in the incubator room," the other said "Boy I like working here more than that dump in Newbark," the voice, suddenly seemed familiar he was the one who told Darren to lock up!
"You remember me don't you," he smiled sarcasticly looking over, no use to growl at some low life scum. He walked back over and sat me down in the cage, and locked me up.
"Caleb, w-where is Kathy?" Storm asked, he cringed. I shrugged, I tried to motion some things out. "Are you asking where everyone is like Cyndy?" I nodded. Stupid muzzle guard.
"We are right next to you," they both said in union. I paused, Cyndy on the right, Carly on the left. One of the phones began to ring. The man picked it up and began muttering, I started calling him Scum in my mind, because that is what he was. Scum nodded and hung up the phone.
"They say that girl want listen, they have the Eevee's D.N.A and stuff ,but they are having a hard time calming her down and collecting her D.N.A, she has already put, two people in coma with the tranquilizers they were putting in her," said Scum, I smiled, way to go.
"We already have, project A and Darren, Aka, project B," the other said. "Why do we even need her?
"We haven't tried the transition on a female though," Scum said. "We need to test one. I'm really surprised all we have tested with is Eevees; I guess Joey is fond of them. He said to bring, Project A down to Lab 3," I thought they would get me out of the cage, but no, they picked up the cage with some machine and put me on a roller. They opened the door and we strolled out. The hall was white, and it never seemed to end, the white was so hard on my eyes, at least I wasn't wearing my reading glasses (I never did) or I bet it would come in a glare. We came up to a high tech door in the middle of the hallway, where lights were flashing on it, Scum walked up to the door and punched a code in. The tiled floor made me want to do the "If you step on a crack…" thing but first, I had matured, second, I was a Jolteon, third I was in a cage! We had strolled down the hall for a minute or two, I was trying to catch the name of the plates that labeled the door "Computer tech, math, science, biology" and so on, but one thing that caught my attention, first, they were subjects that you could find in schooling. Second, there was no, English, history, social studies, art, typing, Spanish, gym classes, they were just subjects that could be used in a lab. We came up to a another high tech door, Scum walked up to the door again, but this time after he punched in the numbers, he held out his hand on a little scanner, the scanner blinked, then he held his eye lid up and looked into what looked like another scanner, it scanned it with a little beam of light then beeped and the door opened. Tough security huh? We walked down the hall making lefts and rights all the time so my mental map screwed up. We walked halfway down the next hall, I thought they had stopped to take a break, where were they taking me anyways? The other guy (not Scum) opened a door to our left. He smiled and we strolled in, everything was white (big surprised) ok that last bit was a lie, the room I was in was a white, but through the glass wall in front of me was black as space. There was a lab bed in the middle of the room with a light over it and a bunch of machines, behind it. But the main attraction in the room was a girl (Guess who) and a man in the middle of the room. The glass wall had filters, so you could hear thru the wall.
"Please, put the syringe down," the man said.
"Not until you get me and my friends out of here," Kathy said. Scum hit a button on the wall.
"Joey, we have project A," Scum said Kathy and Joey looked at us.
"Are you ok?!" Kathy practically yelled. I didn't nod, who would?
"Ok, girl, either your friend here gets it or you give the syringe to me and hold out your hand," Joey stated.
"You can't do nothing to him,' Kathy said turning her attention back to him, she was turning into a leader.
"125, choke him," Joey said. Scum, (I'm not using 125, only complete idiots name their co-workers as numbers, he still deserves a name) opened the cage, pulled me out with the muzzle guard, then put a choker hoop on me, it was connected to a stick and if you pushed the stick down, well the hoop tightens. He pushed down on the stick. I gagged, it was horrible.
"Stop!" Kathy yelled, I was still gagging, but I summoned enough power, I looked Kathy in the eyes and shook my head "NO" don't give in, keep fighting. I was too the point the last bit of oxygen had probably was leaving my blood. I practically imagined in a few minutes blue blood running thru my veins, this is it I guessed.
"I give up!" Kathy yelled, I could barely make out the voice because of the lack of oxygen. The choker loosened and my nostrils flared as oxygen reentered my body. I looked up, hyperventilating, She had dropped the syringe, it laid about a foot from her feet. I looked at her face, a tear ran down it. Joey walked over and stuck a syringe in her arm. He pressed down on the injector, and she fell to the ground within twelve second, and those twelve seconds felt like an hour. Why did she do it I told her not too? I sighed how could she? Joey picked her up and put her on the bed then looked at us.
"Take him back, that's all I needed and take that muzzle guard off him, so he will stop hyperventilating," he said. They nodded, took my muzzle guard off. I was about to bite when one of them slammed me back in the cage and locked the door. I was regaining my breath when they walked outside, it felt so good.
"We will get a raise for that," Scum said sarcastically.
"Why should you get a raise, when you don't deserve anything," I said.
"Shut up freak," he said.
"Shut up you sick in the head, scientist," I replied. "Is this a school or something?" We had just went back thru that high security door.
"Since you will never escape, yes it is we are training college students, like Darren was, to be scientist here, and you know what happens if they try to leave," he smirked, I snared.
"Why'd you have to catch us, me," I said, "All I did was go down the wrong road. I don't believe that crap about them forcing you to take me, or you die."
"Ok you really want to know why I work here?" he said I nodded. "Both my wife and my daughter have a genetic disease, they can't walk, my daughter said she would do anything to walk. My wife said she would too. So here I am, I plan telling them once we have confirmation that female transitions are possible."
"I'm gonna admit that is sad," I said, "But you can't do that, if they give their physical humanity away, I just can't stand the thought of that. It isn't nature's way. I didn't get to choose you know."
"Shut up!" he said I ignored him and turned to the guy that was with him.
"So why are you here?" I asked.
"For science," he sneered, I sneered back.
"And why is your leader doing this?" I asked.
"Oh you mean Joey, I don't know, to tell you the truth, I think he is sick to his mind, but he is sane," Scum said. "Now my turn, why can you talk?"
"Oh that is classified," I said smiling, he smirked in a sarcastic way. A bell had rung and students were flying out of classrooms. A girl, college age of course walked up to us, but she was wearing a lab coat, she must have graduated.
"Any news on Darren?" Scum asked.
"W-well, they didn't put his memory cells and personality cells in a Eevee egg cell like the others, They used different DNA," she said she seemed ashamed then looked down at me, "And who is this?" she put her hands thru the cage and started petting me, I liked it, I know you're like, how can you enjoy that? But when you're a pokemon it is all the better. Kathy had been lacking the Job since I had told her who I was, and probably be lacking the job the rest of her life. I was mad at her, and will be the rest of my life, she gave up humanity, and that is something you should never give up, even if it was in the best interest for me.
"That's Project A, the first transition," Scum said. She instantly stopped the petting, stood strait nodded and walked away. So much for good times. We passed that second hallway door, took a few turns and we were back where I was took from. They opened the cage next to the stroller and I walked in, why resist they'll find a way anyhow to get me in the cage. They closed the cage door and I sat there helplessly. Sam crawled to the end of the cage.
"Did you see Kathy?" he asked, I nodded, "What are they doing?"
"What do you think!?" I yelled. Then quietly walked over to the end of my cage and began to fall to sleep, the tranquilizer wore off. The thing was I couldn't fall to sleep so I just sat there thinking. "She chose to do it, to save me…"
"They manipulated her?" he asked. I nodded.
"But it was still her choice and I'm never forgiving her for that," I said angrily, why couldn't she have let it go I would've died ,but they wouldn't throw me away like that Scum or the other guy would have started breathing air in my mouth or shock my heart , or might have let go before I died, well maybe they would've.
"You can't-,"I interrupted him.
"She gave her physical humanity away, a nature's taboo, she threw her family and friends away for some, some stupid idiot," I began to cry, I was a wimp like that. I sucked it back, up, I'm sick of being the kid everyone feels sorry for. I look back and wondered if I went too far calling myself an idiot. "I knew this wouldn't be done, after Darren got me from that lab in New Bark, I should've known that I would hurt almost anyone I associated with!" I felt like that song, running thru Hell, except I still felt like I was in it. We sat there hours, friends around me who I had betrayed; I should've used my brain over feelings. They had stopped and gave up; silence surrounded me like a desert with no wind, and no, there was no exotic music running thru my head. I felt so awful, I forced myself asleep after an hour I finally had.
I was in a dream, I was in the army in the dessert, no it was coming into better view, I was in a green jungle( the first was a far off guess right?) I was human, and felt awful, my hand was bleeding like, you know what, and we were in a trench walking. The trench was really muddy and there was water up to my boots. And a woman kept coming to my mind.
"Run it's a Bomb!" someone yelled far up in line. We began to run the opposite way. I was running for that woman, not for myself. For some reason.
"Run, Smith, run," the man behind me said, he addressed me by my last name. I blanked out as I heard a bomb go off. Then I went to a purplish place with a white haze around it. Jirachi, I said in a bet, but it wasn't Jirachi. Oh no, think big, yeah your right Giratina. He had the six legged form unlike the other one that is in myths, wait I think it was six legs the place was kind of blurry.
"What did that dream feel like?" he asked me in a stern voice.
"I don't think-"he interrupted me.
"What did it feel like!" he said so loud I think I was gonna go deaf. I thought for a second.
"It felt like earlier today, I was putting the well being of someone else before me," I said timidly. A smile thing went across his face.
"Good that's lesson one, from yours truly Giratina," he said happily. Gah, he is as corny as Arceus.
"What does it mean," I said he turned serious.
"You know what it means, Kathy was putting you before herself, you were putting her before yourself, because of one thing and you know what that is, and don't try to hid it, every time you almost go into subject with it you change it." I made a fowl snare, I know everyone has know that feeling, let it be you or me, let it be true or false, that was a personal feeling and no one else should know it unless it concerns them.
"Shut up you six, I think, legged freak," I said he just smirked, he just drew the line, "Go to-,"
"Bye, bye now" he said in a corny way.
"You still didn't change my mind," I snared before he left, he touched the most personal, most embarrassing, most valuable feeling in the world and I didn't want him to get away with it, I wasn't letting him have the satisfactory of that.
