The announcements begin as Amy slides into her seat at the back of the computer classroom. "Attention all Westerberg High students todays lunch is a slice of pizza with a side of orange slices or a salad with a side of toasted chips. The Yearbook meeting has been moved from room 124 to room 157 for all further meetings. In a special announcement we here at Westerberg high are proud to announce that we have received word that a ball is to be held at the Royal Marigold hotel just a few streets over from here this Saturday. The ball is in honor of Ian Kabras 17th birthday and all students of Westerberg high are welcome to attend. That will be all for today's announcements, thank you and have a great day."
As Amy started up her computer she wondered why some guys' birthday deserved a ball and why he would invite an entire high school, she knows Westerberg is a crazy exclusive school but she didn't think that there were nearly enough important people involved in it that it warranted a mass invitation. About half an hour into class as her mind began to wander Amy decided to look up this Ian guy to see what the fuss was about. She began typing his name into the search engine he turned up after only three letters, so she supposed that he must actually be very important. Maybe important enough to have a ball in his honor. Once the search results finally loaded Amy was greeted with a picture of a boy about her age with artfully tussled black hair and amber brown eyes, she had to rip her eyes away from his picture to read the blurb under the image. 'Prince Ian of Lucia is the eldest child of Vikram, Prince of Lucia, and Isabelle, Princess of Lucia' not recognizing where he was from she clicked on the link to his Wikipedia page. From what she could glean from three minutes of speed reading Ian is the prince of Lucia, which is a small island nation just off the coast of Britain, and is second in line for the throne right after his father. His younger sister Natalie is third in line for the throne and he's just a year older than her. She closes the page right as her best friend Sinead rolls her chair over.
"What were you looking up?" Sinead says in a rather no nonsense tone. Amy knows that trying to dodge the topic will just drag the conversation on for the entire day. "Just the guy they mentioned in the announcements." She quietly replied hoping Sinead would be merciful and just drop it. "Oh Ian? Yeah my parents are making me go to that ball, apparently we're distant cousins or something." she sighs, "You'll come too right Amy?" Amy looks back to her screen considering. She knows that Eisenhower doesn't really care what she and Dan do, but she doesn't think he'd be willing to buy her an appropriate outfit for the ball. "I can try but you know how it is." Sinead just rolls her eyes at Amys meek response, "Just tell Hamilton to ask for you, you know his dad will do practically anything he asks." as she mentions the oldest Holt sibling Sinead gets slightly doe eyed. Amy can't help but smile at her friends crush, especially knowing that Hamilton shares her feelings. The only reason she hasn't set them up already was their insentience that she never tell a soul about their crush. She makes a point to ask Hamilton about asking his dad later as she and Sinead get up to walk to their next class.
~Time skip to end of the school day~
As Amy walked Hamilton to football practice she considered how to approach him on asking his father to allow Amy to purchase a dress for the ball. "Hamilton can I ask for a favor?" she starts carefully not putting any emotion into her tone. He glances over as they continue to walk toward the field, "Depends on the favor, I'm not dying my hair again no matter how much you and Dan ask-"Amy laughs at the memory, "That was a favor for Dan not me, I'm much more reasonable." Hamilton didn't look over this time, "That's true but that means you're much better at convincing me something is a good idea." Amy huffs acting offended but quickly breaks out into a grin. "I was wondering if you could convince your dad to let me get a dress for that ball." She says as the finally reach the entrance to the field. Hamilton's mouth goes a bit funny, "I'm not sure Amy, I probably can't convince him to pitch in a lot even if I lie and say its stuff for me." He says apologetically. "That's fine I don't need a lot, I just want something halfway nice to go in." Hamilton lets out a heavy breathe as he starts to go through the gate, "Yeah I'll ask." Amy smiles brightly at him in thanks and rushes back toward the school to meet Dan at the car.
POV CHANGE
Everything was going to plan. The woman watching laughed as the girl tried to bargain to get a dress. If only she knew that she was going to get exactly what she deserved. While the woman was at it, she decided suddenly, she might as well sort out the other short ends as well. This was going to be a busy week.
