"No I wanna sit in that van!" exclaimed a certain red-haired miko.
"Well I wanna sit with my dear Monk! You know he should have married me!" said a certain young man who was currently latching onto the arm of said monk.
"Not this again! Mai make him stop!" pleaded the monk.
Being in the midst of this chaos, this early in the morning at 3am, I was half-attempted to pinch the bridge of my nose and close my eyes out of annoyance like a certain narcissist.
Deciding that those three will surely tease me about how I am becoming more and more like Naru, I decided against it and instead stalked over to where the young man known as Yasu and the monk known as…well Monk was, and yanked them apart.
Unfortunately, hoping for a bit of peace in the SPR team was unheard of and so as soon I started to stalk away from them, my arm was pulled back and I was embraced in a back hug.
I sighed…and then sighed an even bigger sigh.
"Yasu, get off me. I'm too tired for your games."
"Why? You clearly wanted me off of Monk and so I concluded that you were jealous! I mean even though your husband is handsome, I'm even more so devilishly handsome!"
"What! I only pulled you guys apart because Monk aske-" Before I could get another word out, Naru's voice drifted through the air like a military command causing us to pay attention straight away, only it was more icy, sharp and deadly.
Goosebumps formed all over my skin under the thick winter clothing and the hairs on my neck stood on end all rigid and stiff.
"If you all don't stop misbehaving, I'll make you walk the 347 miles to the Nishida Mansion. Yasuhara, if you don't get off Mai in exactly 2 seconds, I'll make you walk WITH some equipment on your back in tow. Do I make myself clear?"
No-one replied, in fear of having their precious vehicle taken away from them.
In fact the only person to move was Yasu, who had slowly taken his hands away from me and put them in his pockets.
He then slowly walked to Naru, and to me his each step was like the gavel being struck against a sounding block sending a death sentence.
Yasu was now only about 3 inches away from Naru with a gleam of amusement in his eyes.
"Naru, were you jealous of Mai and I?" Yasu drawled out clearly enjoying this.
Naru stiffened and then smirked "So it seems that you opt to walk?"
"Surely you wouldn't do that as you need your precious researcher in time for the investigation."
"True. It won't be beneficial to me if my researcher was late. Though I could always make you walk back home after the investigation. Surely you can reason that I don't need you after we have finished."
The gleam of amusement vanished away from Yasu's eyes as he realized that he had stepped into a precarious minefield and he gave a small smile then made a dash for Monk's van shouting along the way "So you ARE jealous!"
Everyone let out a bated breath before Naru barked out "Mai and John you are with me in my van and Matsusaki you are with Takigawa and Yasuhara. We need to leave now."
Everyone scurried to their appropriate places.
I got into the back of the van while John was driving and Naru was sitting in the front reading the case file.
Realizing that Naru was way too absorbed in reading the case file and that John was quite determined to focus on driving as he only got his license recently, I leaned my head back onto the headrest and almost immediately I fell into slumber.
I slowly opened my eyes to see that I was in a large greenhouse and all around me there were beautiful exotic plants and flowers.
A small fountain stood just in front of me, clear water gently trickling down the sides.
I felt at peace with my surroundings until I felt a hand on my shoulder. I gave a little jump then sighed in relief when I noticed it was Gene.
"Gene, where are we?"
"Good to see you to Mai! How's the marriage going with the idiot scientist? Made any nephews or nieces for me yet?"
"Gene! Don't talk of such stuff so lightly! Anyway you already know how the marriage is going. I know you secretly still contact Naru through your telepathic connection."
"Yeah but Mai, you know how Naru is. Whenever I ask him about you he just ignores me or says it's not my business and then you know what he says afterwards!"
"What" I replied dryly, though I could already guess what Naru would have said.
"Every time I contact him, he ends with 'So when are you going to leave?' How cruel! Imagine your own brother saying that to you all the time!"
"Firstly I am not dead. Secondly I have no brother. And thirdly, Naru's just worried about you.
"Yeah, yeah that's what you say all the time."
"Well I say it all the time as you complain all the time."
Gene gave a wide grin and then beckoned me to come closer. I hesitantly stepped closer to him and then he bent down and whispered into my ear "Tell that idiot scientist I'll only leave when at least there is one nephew or niece."
"I won't say that to Naru!" I slapped Gene's arm and blushed profusely throughout my cheeks.
"It's a good enough reason to stay though! One, I can thoroughly tease you two about it and second I can least see some of my genes being passed on!"
I started to laugh and Gene followed tow, starting to chuckle.
Suddenly a noise from the door of the greenhouse broke me out of my laughing reverie and Gene whispered in my ear "In response to your first question. We are at the greenhouse of the Nishida Mansion. Watch."
And so I watched intently as a young woman no older than me came to the rose section which was near me and started to tend to the roses.
She wore what I presumed to be a maid outfit as the black dress reached her shins and the white apron was draped across her front.
She also wore a white lace bonnet hat and small white gloves.
I walked closer to her to get a better look and saw that she was quite pretty with dark brown eyes and pitch black hair tied into a bun.
Her face was pale and looked almost fragile. I don't know why but I felt an immediate connection with this young maid.
I was about to step closer when the door opened again and I quickly stepped back towards Gene. I watched as a young man, probably a few years older than me came towards the maid.
He wore a neatly pressed formal suit and had a black fedora hat on.
"Anju" the man said.
Anju immediately looked up and then quickly stood up and bowed and said "Master Nishida."
"Anju my dear, your roses are very beautiful. I can see that you have put a lot of effort into growing them."
"Thank you Master"
"Also you cooked a wonderful breakfast this morning."
A blush was now appearing on Anju's face as she shyly looked up at her master again. While the master gently looked at her and took her hand and kissed it.
Anju gasped and stepped back a little. "Continue the good work Anju."
"Yes Master" Anju replied before bowing, and then the Master left.
My attention was turned back to Anju as she had this gentle blush adorning her smiling face.
I felt a little warmth fill my heart however I couldn't help but noticing the little dread creeping into me as well.
