Light-kun, Light-kun, Light-kun...

The name repeated itself in L's head. He couldn't get it off his mind. Or, rather, he did not wish to. It brought him a bundle of unfamiliar feelings which never failed to seize his interest.

He hummed in wonder as sat at the long table Watari set up for him at the HQ. There were dozens of dishes set up for him to choose from- and dishes meaning deserts. Bowls of bon bons, chocolate truffles, cookies, and many others as well as strawberry shortcake. The many sweets filled the air with heavenly sweets.

Watari stood a couple feet from the detective, patiently waiting for a response. When there was none (unless you could count L's enigmatic humming), the butler spoke up. "Is there anything else I may do for you, sir?"

"Ah. No thank you, Watari. You have done enough for now..." L said absentmindedly. He got a spoon and scooped up some vanilla pudding and slipped it into his mouth.

Watari nodded and walked off to who knows where. L's dark eyes edged downwards as he thought deeply.

I wonder what Light-kun is doing right now. He thought, licking the remains of his pudding from his little bowl, making sure Watari wasn't around to witness his childish behavior. He pushed it to the side and scanned the other sweets. He is most likely doing schoolwork... His fingers unconsciously reached for a luscious strawberry. L turned it in his hand and admired it. I wonder what that girl is like... She must be something special if Light likes her. He thought, taking a snarky bite off his little fruit and sighing through his nose.

L went over the events they shared at the theater a few days ago. He may not have enjoyed the film, but he truly did enjoy being with Light. He still wasn't certain why Light worried about things that he saw as utterly trivial. Things such as letting others' know how they felt after being irked or simply commenting on flaws of that movie. But then again, L didn't care much for the way the "outside world" (meaning anything outside of HQ) worked.

Then he remembered the more pleasant moments such as first spotting him, being spoiled with all of the candies, grabbing his sleeve and having his fingers so close to Light's warm hand, needing to wake up Light after he had passed out during the movie... The latter L unable to keep himself from smiling at. He adored that little scene.

A soft chuckle escaped his lips. He dipped a strawberry into some chocolate and ate it. Then, deciding he needed to do something more productive, he picked up a plate and put a couple cupcakes, brownies, a few strawberries, and cream puffs on it before using his feet to pull the rolly chair he was on to his computers.

As he browsed through his e-mail for any requests for help on cases, his mind kept wandering to the brunette he had come to know so well. He ended up just wanting Light for himself and wishing Tsuki hadn't popped up in his life. He considered how childish that wish was... But didn't try to change his mind.

"Haha! You're funny, Light." Tsuki said cheerfully as they walked through the hallways together.

Light smiled at her. "Thank you. It's nice hearing you laugh." He said.

"Aw, shucks." She held her textbooks closer to her heart with a bashful grin.

Class was over that day. It had been a nice Wednesday. Nothing super stressful happened. Light was in a good mood so he decided to bring up his question. He put a confident smile on and cleared his throat.

"Hey, Tsuki?" He started.

"Yeah?" She looked up at him with almond-shaped eyes.

"Did you want to go out sometime?" There was no anxiety in the question. Light had surprised himself by this fact.

The girl beside him gawked, making her look cuter than ever.

"You- you... Mean as boyfriend and girlfriend?" She asked.

He gazed at her with a flirtatious yet gentle look in his brown eyes. "Yeah."

"Y-yeah. Sure." She said with a sweet beam.

"Great. We'll have to set up a date sometime... Maybe this Saturday?"

"Mm... Maybe! We'll have to text about it. I've got to hurry on to work. So, I'll see ya later, Light." Tsuki said sweetly with a wave.

He waved back as she hurried out of the building. Light double-checked his phone to see the time. He had a few minutes before his bus would arrive.

Light sat at the bench by the road where he waited for his ride. It was a nice sunny day. However, the sunshine didn't really affect him. He thought he should've been very optimistic. But he was just confused.

I literally had no nervousness when asking her out. Light thought curiously. That's kind of weird, huh? It was like there was no anticipation. I don't know why... His lips sat in a straight, concerned line. He sighed and held his head in his hand. I'm probably just really relaxed around her. There's nothing to worry about.

That week was full of fascination and uncertainty. Light excelled in school as usual. His conversations with Ryuzaki were decent, albeit choppy, but better than none at all. And Light relished in his times with Tsuki. He really did take pleasure in her company; she was kind, intelligent, lovely... So, Light was baffled by his lack of excitement around her. He found himself more enthusiastic when talking to Ryuzaki.

But why? He wondered that Saturday morning before he would go on that date with Tsuki. ...Emotions can be controlled to some extent. He buttoned up a white shirt and looked at the floor of his room.

He considered that maybe his attention span had been cut after the Kira case and that he simply felt excited when talking to Ryuzaki out of hope for a new case. This explanation satisfied him for the time being.

So, I should be feeling excited about going out with Tsuki. I did ask her out. The brunette smoothed out his shirt and ate some breakfast. He spent the day reading some books, watching some crime shows, and cleaning up whatever he could. He didn't message L that day because he thought that maybe doing so would only lead him to worrying again about things.

Their date was alright overall. They had gone to a restaurant, one which Light was more familiar with than her which gave him the chance to lace her arm with his and lead her to where they could sit. Seeing her shy reactions was something of a treat for him. They talked for a while and enjoyed their meal. When they had to depart, Light gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead which earned him a pleased, sweet little smile. He made himself smile back, despite feeling nothing.

"Well... That one was rather anti-climactic." L said while filing away data for a just finished case of his. He sighed in helpless boredom. L mustered up all of his self-discipline and shut off the screen for his computer. He got up from his rolly chair and picked up the plates he had snacked on. With Watari in another room talking to someone on the phone, he would rather not watch the world around him become a wall of plates and bowls and cups. Even though he could become very immersed into his work, he favored cleanliness. The man picked up a chocolate truffle and bit out of it. He sauntered over to the doorway in which Watari stood which was to the butler's bedroom. L patiently leaned against the wall, listening in to his friend on the phone while savoring each bite of the chocolate in his hand.

"Ah... So, I see..." Watari said. He let out a sigh. "Well, yes... Yes, I will leave soon."

L's eyes widened at this.

"Yes... Goodbye." He said and put hung up his phone.

The younger man watched, inspecting the situation, as Watari sighed again and scratched the back of his neck. The butler turned around and walked to the doorway.

"L- oh, you startled me." Watari clutched his chest upon seeing the raven by his doorway, innocently licking the chocolate off of his pale fingers.

"I am sorry, Watari. I did not intend to." He responded.

"Oh, I know you didn't..." The butler said. He seemed sober.

"Is everything alright, Watari?" L asked, putting his thumb between his lips.

"Why, yes. Thank you. It is just that... Well, I'm afraid that Roger recently had a death in his family."

"Oh... Well, that is too bad."

"Yes. It truly his. He is very upset about this. But this means that soon I will need to leave Japan for England in order to help with things at the Wammy house."

"But... We just arrived." L said sadly.

"I know." Watari gave a sympathetic smile. "You may stay here if you wish. I know how badly you had been wanting to see Light-kun."

"Yes. That is true. However..." The raven looked downwards. "I am incapable of taking care of myself."

"Well, you will not need to stay alone. I suppose you could always ask one of the members from the Kira investigation to stay with you."

"Yes. That is true... But Light-kun has schoolwork to do and I am uncertain of who else to ask." L's eyes took a more rounded and concerned, less apathetic shape. He truly did love Watari. The man was like a father to him. Unfortunately, however, he usually took him for granted.

The elderly man gave a comforting chuckle, despite his seemingly worried expression, and affectionately pet L's head. "Don't worry, L. I'm certain everything will be fine. I am not going to leave right away."

"Alright... Good..." L said, relaxing his muscles. "Because I believe there are some things I need to talk to you about sometime."
