I don't own InuYasha, but you knew that.
Little heads up guys... I'M GOING TO SCOTLAND!
THIS MEANS- that I might not be able to update a whole lot in the last two weeks of August, but I've got WiFi where we're staying, so I probably can. Don't worry, I'm working on the other stories so they'll be up soon.
Enjoy ^^
Twenty on a girl!"
Every pair of eyes in the living room turned to Kagome, her name and amount scribbled down in the red ledger they were using as a broker, her bills slipped into the can they used as a pot.
"That's twenty you're going to lose," InuYasha told her, his own name scribbled inside while he placed his bet, "they're having a boy, there's no way it can be anything else."
"What do you mean by that?"
"Simple," the half-demon explained to his girlfriend, "Rin has had nothing but brothers; it makes logical sense that they have a higher chance of having a boy."
"You need to pay more attention in biology son," InuTaisho smiled as he wrote his own bet in the pot, "the boy determines the gender, not the girl."
"Either way, Sesshomaru's only got one brother," Izayoi finished as she wrote down her bet, "it does make sense that they would have a boy if he's got your genes."
"Higher chances just mean you have a better one," Ayame cut in as she slipped her name into the book, "it's not a definitive answer."
"Gotta go with lady wolf," Koga agreed, "besides, Sesshomaru's so girly it tips the scales a bit!"
"I'm sticking with facts," Sango told them as she scribbled down her bet, "they're having a boy!"
"I will go with a lovely little lady," Miroku practically cooed, "she'll be adorable."
"It's gonna be a boy," InuYasha grinned, "dad had two kids with two different women and bother were boys; she's gonna have a boy."
"Oh sure, now you pay attention to what I have to say," his father teased.
The joyous occasion of their wedding had been just over a month ago, the newlyweds returning to the Takahashi manor after two weeks, Rin looking bigger than when she first left them, the baby bump now visibly noticeable to all who were in attendance. Since their return, the family had been doting over the pregnant young woman, hands reaching to touch the growing belly and bug her on every change her body went through, Izayoi advising her on how to handle the differences.
While Sesshomaru and Rin were staying with the family, they were in the process of moving to the secondary house the Takahashi's owned, a smaller one in scale though it was further into the country but still close enough to the hospital that should something happen, they would be safe and in a doctor's care in moments. Currently, Rin was in said care in the hospital, specifically with an Ultrasound technician to determine how the baby was coming along, fetal movements slow but noticeable.
"We're back," a tired voice suddenly filled the house, the entire group turning to look at the approaching figures, Rin's hands over her growing belly to support herself, the child she was carrying still not too large to inconvenience her greatly, though it was fairly obvious that she was pregnant to everyone around her, even those she just met.
"How was it?" Izayoi asked calmly as Sesshomaru helped his young wife to the couch, her still relatively slim body nestled between Kagome and Sango, both girls looking excitedly at her.
"It was… interesting," Rin answered honestly after a moment, her brown eyes darting to her demon husband, his own face a surprising pale shade and his actions seemingly slightly shocked, the rest of their company now keeping him in their view.
"How so?" the elder woman asked calmly, the young woman swallowing thickly before Kagome interrupted her.
"So, what are you having?"
"I… pardon?"
"The baby," Kagome practically bounced, "c'mon, you promised to find out what it was for us!"
"Why-Why do you want to know?" the other asked weakly, the red notebook passed to her hands where her brown eyes scanned the writing, her eyebrows raising at the sight.
"This is the first round," the young woman explained, "the winners of this one go onto the next one and so on until one of us wins the pot!"
"You all made bets?" Rin asked incredulously as she sat down on the couch, her growing stomach adjusted comfortably while Sesshomaru leaned against a wall, his stoic face seemingly distant.
"Sure did!" Kagome beamed, the book shown to Rin, "look; InuYasha, Izayoi, and Sango think it's a boy but InuTaisho, Miroku, Ayame, Koga and I know you're having a girl."
"Oh," the pregnant woman murmured, her eyebrows raising even further as she took in a deep breath, her brown eyes glancing towards the demon.
"So?" Kagome pressed, "tell us who won!"
"Well," Rin looked back down at the book, her teeth chewing on her lower lip, "who bet on both?"
The room seemed to freeze at the question, the woman smiling nervously as everyone stared at her.
"What?" InuTaisho whispered, his face as shocked at the rest of them, his amber eyes flickering form the young woman to his son, Sesshomaru's hands hiding his own amber irises.
"She's having twins," Sesshomaru explained exasperatedly, the tone in his voice telling the rest of them that even he didn't believe it, "fraternal… twins."
"So… wait," InuYasha grinned stupidly, his face looking on the verge of laughter, "you knock her up, on her first time, and it's with twins?!"
"Shut up InuYasha," the demon groaned to his younger brother, the half-demon bursting into a fit of laughter.
"Oh my God!" the younger laughed, "that's great!"
"Damn," Miroku murmured, his face turned to Sesshomaru, visibly impressed, the demon torn between fainting and murdering the other two.
"Will you two knock it off!" Izayoi demanded, standing from her chair to walk over to Rin, "this is wonderful Rin! Congratulations honey!"
"Thank you," Rin smiled weakly as she hugged the elder, the rest of the room coming alive after the startling news, the group congratulating her and Sesshomaru.
"She's having twins," Sesshomaru whispered as his father stood beside him, "one boy and one girl… how does this happen?"
"Well Sesshomaru," his father teased, "when a man loves a woman very much-"
"I didn't mean that!" the demon snapped, InuTaisho laughing softly, "I meant-"
"I know," the elder smiled as he shrugged his shoulders, "these things just happen sometimes."
"To us apparently," Sesshomaru mumbled.
"Well," InuTaisho sighed, chuckling lightly, "so it would seem. How are you feeling?"
"Shock seems to be the common theme," the younger demon admitted, his eyes catching sight of Rin's dark ones, a slow smile slipping on his lips, "but I think… I'm happy."
"Oh Rin!" Kagome squealed, "what are you going to call them?"
"I… I don't know," the young woman stammered, "we-we haven't decided on anything yet, we only just found out-"
"What about naming them from Star Wars?" Miroku piped up, the entire group looking at him incredulously.
"There is no way in hell I am naming my children Luke and Leia," Sesshomaru snapped, the grin on the other growing wider.
"Of course not," the young man simpered, "I'm talking about Darth and Vada."
"Miroku," Rin interrupted, "you are just begging to be kicked to the moon."
"Or strangled," the demon growled, the cheeky grin still on the other's lips as he stood.
"Right then… I think it's time we leave Sango-"
"You can go," the young woman told him, "I wanna stay and celebrate this with Rin!"
"Let me get the champagne," InuTaisho grinned, "and the sparkling grape juice for Rin and our non-drinkers!"
The rest of the afternoon was spent with food, friends, and lots of people rubbing Rin's stomach multiple times, congratulating the two of them multiple times while they munched on hors d'oeuvres, cheese and crackers, and other appetizer-like snacks. Laughter bubbled from the house as the mood was as joyous as a Christmas morning, InuTaisho allowing his son and some of his underage friends a glass of champagne or two though a handful drank the sparking grape juice to help support their pregnant friend.
After almost six hours of family enjoyment, both Sesshomaru and Rin decided to head off, figuring they needed to spend a night in their house in order to become fully settled in, some of their worldly possessions still at the main house, though there were few of them.
The hour or so drive was filled with a peaceful silence much unlike the almost stunned one that occupied the drive on the ride from the hospital. Rin's fingers absent-mindedly ran over her babies as she found she was doing more often now, a small smile on her lips as she felt a small movement in response to her touch or her voice when she spoke to her children. The movement, though infrequent, always sent a shiver of excitement down her spine and manage to make the normally stoic face of her now husband light up whenever he felt the small kick.
Their first encounter with their infants movement came about a week ago before their ultrasound, Rin aiding, much to her husband's displeasure, with the moving of some of her boxed books, the result her dropping the box in surprise and nearly giving her demon husband a heart attack. Her excited news had his long-fingered hand to her stomach in a successful attempt to feel their child, a slow smile on his face as something moved ever-so-slightly against his hand.
Rin was careful as she moved up the stairs to their bedroom, her body slipping into a white nightgown before she finally broke the silence between the two, her body resting on their king-sized bed.
"Wow," Rin groaned as she looked up at the ceiling, her hair splayed on the mattress, "first time I ever have sex and I manage to get myself knocked up… with fraternal twins."
"You and me both," the demon agreed, "I can't believe I did that to you."
"It's not like I didn't enjoy it," the young woman teased softly, "besides, neither one of us could have predicted this."
"Even if you could," his amber eyes looked down at her, "would you have gone through with it?"
"Would you?" Rin asked quietly, her fingers trailing over their growing twins while the demon sighed.
"I… I don't know," Sesshomaru answered truthfully, "I would like to know what I know now, know that coming clean with you was the best thing I could do for the two of us, know that you loved me as I you," his fingers trailed over the growing flesh, his hand covering hers, "but if we didn't… we wouldn't have them. On the other hand… we could have been a little safer, condoms maybe… but then… I don't know how our relationship would've progressed."
"It might not have," the young woman shrugged, her lungs expelling a sigh as she heard more than saw the demon slipping into his pyjama bottoms, his body slipping on top of the mattress beside his wife, a chuckle escaping his chest at the sound of her growling stomach.
"Hungry?" he teased his groaning wife, Rin's hand resting over her stomach as she sighed.
"No, actually," she murmured, "I can't believe how much I ate!"
"You're eating for three," Sesshomaru informed her, his body moving to its side so his hand could cover hers, "you're supposed to eat a lot."
"I guess," Rin shrugged, "though if I crave anymore sweets I'm going to wind up getting cavities!"
"I'm just thankful it's nothing ridiculous like pickles and ice cream," the demon murmured, his partner smirking for a moment before she sighed.
"I'm going to be huge," the young woman groaned.
"You won't be that big-"
"I'm going to have my own gravitational pull in a few weeks," Rin turned to the demon, "what do you call that?"
"Carrying twins," Sesshomaru teased softly, his body lying beside Rin with a soft smile on his lips, his fingers trailing over the rounding and stretching flesh as he reminisced about their appointment.
Rin shuddered as the cold gel touch her stomach, the hand in Sesshomaru's squeezed tighter against his instinctively, the fingers around hers reassuring. Brown eyes turned to meet the demon's amber, a soft smile on her lips as his own calmed her greatly, the young woman incredibly thankful that she was not doing this alone.
"You okay ma'am?" their nurse asked, her blue eyes looking down at the pregnant teen, her dyed blonde hair flipping in its ponytail.
"Yes, thank you," Rin told her kindly, nodding for her to continue, the woman's pink frosted lips smiling as she gently placed the probe on her patient's growing stomach.
The two watched with anticipation as the device moved over the taunt flesh the picture on the screen turning from black to a fuzzy grey image of the young woman's womb, Sesshomaru feeling his smile grow wider as the sight of a small head and hands slowly came into view.
"That's our baby?" the young woman asked softly, Sesshomaru noticed tears pricking the corners of her eyes, her brown orbs darting to him for a moment before back to the monitor.
"Yes it is," the woman told them kindly, "there's the head… and the body… and-"
The woman paused, her face leaning to the screen with her brows knitted together, concern filling Rin's beating heart.
"Is… Is something wrong?" Sesshomaru dared to asked, the hand in his tightening.
"Well," their doctor smiled, pulling back to look at them, "unless your baby has two heads," the probe moved against the flesh, "you have twins."
"So, apparently, the pot's still up for grabs," Rin interrupted his thoughts, "now they're betting on dates."
"I see," the demon smirked, "and which day did we get?"
"We don't get a shot," the young woman told him, "says it's like cheating."
"That's a shame," Sesshomaru grinned, "I heard it was growing quicker than you."
A smack on his arm had him chuckling anew, Rin rolling back over to her back in order to adjust comfortably.
"Izayoi thinks it would be interesting if we named them as opposites, you know, like one sun and one moon, something like that."
"And you?" the demon asked, "you don't seemed fond of that idea."
"I don't like the idea of the two being opposites, I mean, I know it may happen with brother and sister, but…"
"You don't want to set them up for anything," the demon finished for her, "I understand; but what of my father's suggestions?"
"It sounds too military to me," Rin groaned, "I don't like the idea of naming them in birth order. But what do you think?"
"I don't really know," Sesshomaru shrugged, "I think the children will already know which one's eldest."
"So…" the young woman paused as she leaned into the demon, "how do you want to do this?"
"I think naming two children who aren't twins sounds like the best thing," the demon commented, "besides, we both agree that they'd be their own personalities, so they should have their own names."
"I think that's best," Rin agreed softly, confusion on her face as Sesshomaru's body adjusted to lie his head by her belly, his lips brushing over their growing children, "Sesshomaru, what are you-"
"Shh," he murmured, his fingers reaching to graze over her skin, the smile pulling on Rin's lips was coupled with a deep flush on her cheeks.
Her head resting back on the pillow, the young woman let her delicate fingers run through his silver strands, a soft hum slipping from Sesshomaru's lips as he kissed and stroked her flesh. The demon felt the chest he rested on shudder as his wife giggled lightly at the feeling of her kicking child, whether it was her son or her daughter Rin didn't care as she let her husband have his moment with their children, her heart hammering as she hoped there were infinite more to come.
Rin's about 18 weeks here. Also, when I asked my mom about her cravings, she said she really wanted comfort foods she had as a kid, beans on toast and things like that and my grandma said she liked chocolates so weird things like pickles and peanut butter I think are exaggerated by T.V. shows, though I don't know every pregnant woman's experience so I could be wrong.
