First, I'm so so sorry that its taken me so long to update, I didn't really know what to write but I have idea's now. Secondly, I read all of your comments and appreciate every single one. I hope you're all still reading and please please let me know your thoughts of where you think this story should go
"Why do you look so happy?" Marlene questioned with wondering eyes as I entered our room. She stood, walking in slow circles around me as I stood in front of the mirror. "Are you high?" She poked my arm.
"As if, Marlene. It's just a nice day that's all." I said, catching her reflection behind me in the mirror.
"Are you kidding?" She asked and opened the blinds to emphasise her point. "It's freezing outside! Unless cold temperatures are your thing - which I know they're not - you're hiding something."
I turned around, throwing my jacket over a chair and slipping out of my shoes. "Maybe you're just paranoid."
Marlene laughed. "Paranoid of what exactly?"
I shrugged, laying across my bed while grabbing my text books. "I don't know. That I'm hiding something?"
She walked closer, sitting on her bed opposite me. "Your poor effort to divert the conversation only proves that you're avoiding talking about it."
I rolled my eyes. "Since when did you get so good?" When I looked up, she was smirking. "Honestly, I thought that I would've been able to hide it for longer."
At my confession, Marlene suddenly perked up, now jumping onto my bed. "Tell me everything." She squealed then abruptly stopped, "Wait, it's something good right?"
I giggled. "Yes. Four asked me to be his girlfriend."
Jaw dropping would be an understatement. I thought Marlene's jaw had unhinged itself. I didn't realise how big of a deal all this sort of stuff was at this school. My old school would have never paid any attention to anything like this. "Shut up!" She squeezed my hands tight in a way that I could only assume was positive. "Have you told Christina?"
"Not yet," I shook my head, "I came here first."
"Well what are we waiting for? Come on."
I laughed at her hastiness. "Don't you think I should tell you the rest?"
Her eyes went wide and I took that as a sign to continue. "He asked me to the dance as well."
Marlene's eyebrows rose which wasn't exactly the response I was waiting for. I thought there would be more screaming and worry filled my stomach. "That's a good thing, right?" I asked.
She shook her head as if shaking away unnecessary thoughts and gave me her dazzling smile, "Better than good." I sighed in relief and picked up my text books.
"If we're going to Christina's then I've got to get some studying done. Who knows how long we could end up in her room. Marlene laughed and we headed out.
I passed the ball to Zeke, considering I was planning to leave this sport once school was over, I was pretty good at it. I loved how I could get into my own person zone and concentrate. So much that I hadn't heard a single word Zeke had said to me in the past minute.
"Are you listening?" He asked, catching the ball.
I nodded. "I am now, start again." Zeke rolled his eyes, this always happened when we practised.
"I said… can you believe how this only started as a bet and now you're in love."
I shot him a hard glare. "I'm not in love, Zeke. Don't say stupid things like that around anyone, you know how rumours spread around this place.
He feigned shock. "This coming from the guy who just asked her to be his one and only girlfriend."
I scoffed. "One and only? Where do you hear these things?"
Passing the ball back to me, Zeke moved hair from his face, "It's not true?"
I bit the inside of my lip, angry that I had gotten caught in his game. "No, it is, but-"
"But you don't want to admit you love her?" He smirked.
I caught the ball and aggressively threw it back at him. "Cut it out, Zeke. She's my girlfriend and we're going the dance together. That's all. That was the deal, right?"
Zeke held the ball above his head, stopped at my words. "The deal was the dance, not the girlfriend part man, but look, I'm just joking around, if you want to be in a relationship with her then go ahead."
I hadn't realised but my hands had formed into tight balls at my sides, fingernails digging into my skin. What was this girl doing to me? "Fine then, I'll finish it." I spun around.
"Wait. Four," Zeke grabbed my shoulder, "What's up with you?"
I sighed, gritting my teeth and looking away from him. "This isn't me. I don't do relationships but… somehow she's made me that way and it drives me insane. Everyone knows the usual me. Know that I take any willing girl to the dance and that's all."
Zeke sighed and patted me on the back. "I never thought I'd have to get all sentimental with you." He smirked, "But don't fear change. It's a good thing. How do you think I felt when I first started dating Shauna? Look, I know you don't love her, I wouldn't expect you to at this point, but you are more than allowed to like her in a more than friendly way."
I blew air from my mouth then took a deep breath. "Maybe you're right."
"Damn straight I am," Zeke laughed, "Now find her, make sure she knows you're serious and pray to god that she never finds out about this bet."
I nodded. "Thanks Zeke."
"So now we all have dates to the dance!" Christina smiled.
"Uh?" Marlene waved her arm over her head. "I think you're forgetting me. I don't have a date."
"Oh please," Christina waved her arm, "Uriah is definitely going to ask you." Marlene looked away and I could've sworn that she was blushing.
"And speaking of boys," Christina turned to me and winked, "Where is your boyfriend?"
"You know you can just call him Four." I smirked.
"What's that deal with that, by the way? Has he told you?"
I looked from side to side, hoping an answer would appear from thin air, "What are you talking about?"
"His name!" Marlene laughed.
"Oh," I shrugged. "I don't know. That's his business and I guess he'll tell me when he's ready."
"Unless his actual name is Four." Marlene laughed.
