Chapter 10
As I stood there just staring at all the people in Jake's living room he started to introduce them. There was Sam, Jared, Paul, Embry, Quil, Leah, Seth, Brady, and Colin. They all nodded when Jake said their name. It was Brady and Colin I felt the strange pull too. If I had to compare it to any of the other bonds I have I would say it was similar to my bond with Jane and Alec.
"Bella you should probably sit," Billy said rolling up next to me. Billy was wheelchair bound due to his diabetes.
"What's going on?" I managed to ask. I didn't move to sit as requested.
"Well you can think of this as an intervention of sorts," my dad said from behind me. He was blocking that exit and from what I could tell everyone else was positioned in a way that would prevent me from getting out. I felt trapped and was starting to feel some fear creep in. I couldn't help but wish my Mate and coven were with me.
"Intervention for what?" I demanded "I don't do drugs, I don't smoke, I don't drink. I get excellent grades in school. What would I need an intervention for?"
"Bella, this has more to do with the people you associate with," the one introduced as Sam said. He hid it well but I could see the disgust when he said 'people'. "Your dad has asked for us to explain some things to you."
"What things?"
"Your boyfriend isn't human," the lone female in the room, Leah, got to the point for me. Granted, that's not what I expected to hear from them.
"Excuse me?" I didn't know if it was more my shock at having someone point it out so blatantly or if I was unconsciously trying to keep the secret but that's all I could manage to get out of my mouth.
"First we should start by telling you all our legends are actually true," Sam spoke again.
"You mean the ones about wolves and cold ones?"
"Yep," Quil nodded. He seemed a little excited about this.
"Yes," Sam gave Quil a sharp look before continuing. "All of us," he indicated everyone Jake had introduced earlier, "shift into wolves. Our main purpose is to destroy any Cold Ones who come through our lands."
"Except for the Cullens," Embry amended Sam's last statement.
"Yes, except for the Cullens," Sam agreed. "Your boyfriend is a cold one-"
"Also known as vampires, but I prefer blood-sucker or leach," Paul interrupted Sam.
"Paul," Sam growled and that sound alone made me realize they were serious. No human would be able to growl in that manner. Now I was scared and wanted my Mate and wanted him now but was trying not to show my fear. "Rosalie and Jasper Hale and Emmett Cullen are covered by the treaty as they are apart of the Cullen Coven. The two vampires who have been around Jasper are covered by the treaty as they are friends of the Cullen Coven but if they break one rule of the treaty we will take them out."
I stood there silently listening to everything I was being told. My dad didn't seem fazed by any of this and I assumed he knew before we got here but wondered how long he has known for. Something told me this was a new development for him.
"Sam, I assume you are the alpha of the pack," I stated not really asking but waited for him to confirm this before continuing. "I appreciate you trying to look out for me but I know exactly what I am getting into. I've known since about a month after I met Edward Cullen. Now before I leave I will give you some free information-"
"Bells you aren't leaving here," my dad said. When I just stared at him he elaborated. "Until the Cullen's are gone you won't be leaving the reservation. Billy and Sam explained how the treaty prevents them from coming onto tribal land."
"Well there's a few things wrong with that statement," I countered. "And I guarantee I will be leaving tonight. If you let me go right now we can pretend this never happened but if you don't and my Mate and Coven show up looking for me heads will roll."
"Did you not hear that they can't come on the land without breaking the treaty?" Leah scoffed. I looked around the room and the only ones who hadn't said anything were Seth, Colin, and Brady. Colin and Brady looked worried and I just felt like I needed to reassure them, but I held off since I didn't know what this connection meant.
"Before I get into how wrong you all are, how do you know about all this?" I directed this question to my dad.
"That would be my fault," Jake spoke up looking a bit sheepish. "Your dad was over watching the game when I got into it with Paul and because we were so angry we both phased right outside the door. Your dad saw it all."
"Huh, so you just told him everything?"
"Well we had to tell him something and the truth seemed to be the best bet," Billy answered this time. "Besides he's been a friend of the tribe for many years. We knew he would be able to keep this secret. The only thing he requested is help in keeping you safe."
"I was perfectly safe until you forced me onto the reservation," I countered. "My Mate and Coven are physically incapable of harming me due to the bonds we share. Even if they hadn't feed in months or years and I was the only source of blood they wouldn't feed from me."
"How can you be so sure of this?" Seth queried. The rest of the wolves looked as if they didn't believe me.
"I just do," was my simple response."Back to how wrong you all are. The first thing you are wrong about is all the Cullen's have left," I smirked when I saw the confused looks on their faces. "The one's who are here are part of the Whitlock Coven and you don't have a treaty with the Whitlock Coven. Now they have respected the treaty set forth for the Cullen Coven as they had no wish to cause problems but if you intend to hold me hostage on the reservation not only will they becoming to get me but the Volturi Coven will also be coming to town to assist them."
"Who are the Volturi Coven?" Jake demanded.
"They are the coven who rule the vampires," I smiled. "And I'm their princess. I am a direct descendant of one of their Kings. Not to mention that a number of them have come to form sibling bonds with me to the extent that if at least one of them doesn't hear from me about every hour or so they start to panic." I couldn't help but remember early at school.
"And how many are in this coven?" Sam asked. I figured he was trying to plan on how to take them all out.
"More than the number of wolves you have," I had finally sat down. I realized I had been here about an hour and since I hadn't been in touch with my coven or any of the Volturi's I knew my Mate would be tracking me down soon.
After that I let everyone keep trying to talk me into staying away from my vampires. I stopped responding and just observed. I knew when my Mate and Coven were close as all the wolves tensed up. The thing that surprised me the most was when Brady and Colin sat and curled into me as if I would protect them.
"Brady, Colin, let's go," Sam barked as everyone filed outside. They just shook their heads no and shrunk into me more.
"Now!" there was something about his tone and it seemed the boys were fighting his command.
"Sam you leave them alone!" I was pissed and knew it had to do with the connection I felt to them. "I don't care if you are the damn alpha you will not be commanding my boys. You have just lost two wolves as I will be taking them with me when my Mate gets here."
Sam seemed shocked as the boys bodies relaxed into me, but he quickly moved out of the house when he heard, what I knew to be, my Mate's roar of anger.
"Don't worry boys," I soothed them. "We will be leaving shortly. You will be safe with me. I promise."
They nodded and followed me when I stood to go outside. I stopped and held my hand out to my dad silently asking for my phone back.
"I'll be collecting my things but I won't be staying with you any longer Charlie," I turned to leave but stopped with his next words.
"You are my daughter and are still in high school, you can't just move out!"
"I'm 18. I can and I will," with that I walked outside to see eight giant wolves standing between the house and my Coven. All the supernatural beings were growling. I knew my coven could take the wolves no problem but I really didn't want them to fight. Just because I knew my coven would win didn't mean they wouldn't get hurt. I knew if I could get to my coven we could leave but I didn't know how to do that.
As I was contemplating on what to do Colin shifted.
"Get on," Brady said while guiding me towards Colin. Once I was on Colin's back Brady shifted as well and they took off running. They did a loop around the other wolves and tried to go wide enough to stay away from the other wolves but one went after my wolves.
The smallest wolf turned and started chasing my wolves down. I laid as close to Colin's body as possible in an attempt to keep myself as aerodynamic as possible. I could see the small grey wolf gaining and when I heard it's growl right behind us I felt something expand around me and my two wolves. When I looked back again I saw the small wolf being pinned down by Rose. Rose had her by the neck so the wolf wasn't able to get away from her
I sent all my love and trust to my Mate and hoped none of my coven attacked the boys.
"Brady, Colin, get back here!" Sam had shifted back to his human form and was again using that weird voice he had used in the house earlier. "Can't you see what they are doing to Leah?"
"I already told you, they are coming with me," I glared at Sam. Brady and Colin had managed to make their way behind my Coven. I saw my coven give me a strange look but knew they would back me up. "Now if you all back off and let us leave Rose may refrain from actually killing that puny wolf."
"I'm not just letting you take two of my wolves into a vampire's lair," Sam scoffed.
"Well that's too bad," My Angel growled out. "My Mate says they are coming to our home so that's what's going to happen."
I assume my Mate sent out a large dose of fear or something as the wolves all transformed back and dropped to the ground trembling and naked.
"Follow our scent trail," My Mate commanded to my wolves. They immediately took off running. I saw Rose and Char flanking us and figured the guys would be following behind when they were convinced the wolves would stay away from us. I did notice when Rose dropped Leah, Leah was passed out cold. I couldn't help but wonder if Rose had actually killed her.
When we reached the house Brady shifted back first and helped me off Colin's back so Colin could shift as well. The boys quickly got me onto the porch and pulled on their cut offs. Rose and Char stood directly in front of the house waiting to protect us.
"Darlin' are ya OK?" My Angel started checking me over as soon as he ran into the yard.
"I'm fine," I sighed before launching into the story of what had happened from when Emmett dropped me off at Charlie's to when we got home.
"So you have two dogs now?" Emmett chuckled when I explained about the connection.
"Emmett McCarty Whitlock," I growled in warning while Rose smacked him on the back of the head for me. I smiled my gratitude to Rose.
"At least they don't stink like the others," Peter grumbled.
"Jane and Alec are going to love this," Char shook her head as we all headed inside.
"First thing is first, Colin, Brady, where are your parents?" I asked the two boys who I was quickly accepting as my sons.
"They disowned and kicked us out when we phased for the first time," Brady stated. I could see how hard he was trying to hide his emotions.
"We've stayed with the other pack members but none of them were able to take us in long-term," Colin sighed.
"We've basically been couch surfing," Brady picked up. "Every night we slept at a different person's place. There was even one night we had to stay phased and slept in the woods."
"So I assume you are brothers?" I asked. I was barely controlling my rage at the pack of mutts. I wanted nothing more than to go back and destroy the entire pack after hearing how my boys had been treated.
"Yeah, we're twins," Colin confirmed.
"Call Grandpa and have him send the jet," I turned to my Mate, I made my decision. "We are going to Italy."
"What about finishing school?" Rose asked.
"I'll do it online."
"What about us?" Brady asked almost as if he expected me to tell him he had to go back to the reservation.
"You are going with us," I nodded. "We'll buy you some things once we get there."
"Is that where the other coven you mentioned lives?" Colin asked.
"Yes it is," I confirmed. When I saw the scared look on their face I reassured them. "None of the vampires there will hurt you or they will have to deal with me."
"Darlin' your grandfather has a vendetta against all wolves," my Mate spoke up.
"Well then I guess I had better call him," I smirked.
"Don't worry I'll be behind you no matter where we go," Jasper said. "Char show the boys to their rooms please."
"Can we share?" Brady asked.
"If that's what you want," Rose spoke up. I could see her maternal instincts kicking in with these two.
As Rose and Char showed the boys a room they could use until we left I sat on my Mate's lap while I called my Grandfather.
I quickly explained the situation and he was pissed when I mentioned how wolves were trying to keep me away from my family. He was shocked when I told him two of the wolves were coming with us as my sons. In the background I could hear two cries of anguish. I'm sure that was Jane and Alec and knew I would have to speak with them next to reassure them that they weren't being replaced. After a few minutes my Grandfather agreed not to harm these two wolves and said the jet should be here tomorrow evening so we could leave the morning after.
My call to Jane and Alec wasn't what I hoped for. They were pissed and upset. I did my best but trying to console and reassure them over the phone wasn't working. I finally admitted to myself that I wouldn't be able to do much until I got there.
That night I curled up in bed with my Mate. He had kept me in his arms ever since we had got back to the house. Char and Peter were going to Charlie's to pack all my belongings. They knew what I would want and what I didn't care about while Rose and Emmett patrolled around the house to ensure none of the wolves tried to come and take either me or my boys.
Of course when I told Peter about where the note was he smacked himself upside the head. I teased him mercilessly about that and had plans to bring it up periodically over the next few centuries, at the very least.
The next day I made a phone call to the reservation school and told them Colin and Brady would be withdrawing and requested them to mail their records to Jasper's lawyer in Seattle. The school didn't question it which I found odd but I found out why later when Sam showed up, in human form, flanked by two wolves.
Jasper and I stood together as the Coven Leaders with Brady and Colin standing directly behind us. Rose and Emmett were on Jaspers other side right next to the twins while Peter and Char were on my side next to the boys.
I gave Sam a verbal lashing before the twins spoke up and told Sam of their desire to stay with me. No one told Sam where we were going just that we were moving. From our conversation last night, I knew the boys weren't part of the pack mind any longer which was for the best. It seems Sam felt it was better to let them go than try to fight my Coven. I had to wonder what exactly Jasper, Peter, and Emmett said or did after the rest of us came back to the house last night. In a way I hated that Sam didn't fight harder for the boys because it showed both them and me that Sam didn't really care about them to begin with but at the same time I was relieved as I didn't want any of my family to be hurt.
I couldn't help but hope this was the last time we would ever have to deal with the pack. I had already made my peace with never seeing my mother again after the last visit with her and now after how my dad acted and sided with the wolves without even talking to me basically sealed my feeling for him.
After Sam left I called my school and found out I had more than enough credits to graduate immediately due to the classes I took in Phoenix. I made the arrangements to withdraw from all my classes and gave them Jasper's lawyers address to send my diploma to. Since I was 18 I didn't need parental permission but I should have expected the school to call my dad being this was such a small town and he is the Chief of Police.
When he arrived I invited him in, unlike how we met the wolves outside. I instructed Colin and Brady to stay in their room for the moment. They didn't need to be witness to this discussion, even if they could hear every word due to their supernatural hearing. My Coven didn't want to leave me alone with Charlie and they were all sitting in the living room when he got there. I led him into the dining room so we could talk.
"Rose, Jasper, would you join us in the dining room please?" I asked those two as I knew my Mate wasn't about to let me be completely alone with Charlie after the stunt he pulled last night and I would be willing to bet Rose's maternal bond would be kicking in full force with this situation.
"Look I was ok with you moving out of my house, but I will not allow you to drop out of school," Charlie jumped right into the heart of the matter.
"Allow her?" Rose hissed.
"I'm not dropping out," I said coldly to Charlie while laying a hand on Rose's arm. "I spoke with the school and due to the classes I took in Phoenix I am able to graduate early."
"I don't care," Charlie stood and grabbed my arm. It took only a second for him to release it and fall to the ground unconscious.
"What did you hit him with?" I glanced at my Mate.
"Lethargy," Jasper sneered. "I figured I shouldn't be too mean as he is still your dad, even if he is a bastard."
"Oh," I just nodded at that. "Emmett would you mind putting my dad in his car so he can leave when he wakes?"
"Sure Sissy," Emmett's grin was a little disconcerting but I figured he wouldn't do anything to terrible so I didn't say anything.
After that we spend the rest of the day packing everything up. I knew we would just load up all the vehicles of what we wanted to take and drive them directly on the jet in the morning. I did hear my dad drive off about an hour after he had been moved out to his cruiser. I have to admit to feeling relieved that my dad made it so easy for me to give him up.
I still couldn't get Jane or Alec to talk to me but I did talk with the other's throughout the day. Jane and Alec's phones would just go to voicemail. I did leave a couple of messages but didn't want to seem like I was being over bearing. I also didn't ask any of the others about them and they didn't volunteer any information.
Colin and Brady helped when asked but were very reserved around everyone. They tended to stick close to me for the most part. I was hoping the flight would get them to open up a little to my coven so everyone could be on friendly terms.
Colin, Brady, and I went to bed early that night so we could get an early start. I knew the jet would be ready to take off whenever we got to the airport in the morning but I was more than ready to get out of dodge!
The next morning found all my vampires ready to go and it only took Brady, Colin, and I a few minutes to get changed and go. We stopped to get something to eat and it was the first time I had seen how much they eat. I was very grateful my Mate was rich as it was going to take quite a bit to keep them fed properly.
I was surprised at who was waiting on the plane for us. I didn't think any of the vampires were coming from Volterra and wasn't sure how the next 16 hours were going to go.
A/N: Again, I look forward to reading any thoughts and comments you may have! The reviews over the past few days have really kept me going. I will warn you that after all the inspiration and writing I've done on this story in such a short time I'm feeling a little like my other stories need some attention as well. Please don't worry if you see updates on my other stories and not this one for a short time as I will still work on this and if the reviews keep coming they way they have been I know I won't be able to leave this story alone for too long. :)
