Try

A/N: I promise I'm going to finish this fic, even if it does take awhile. I'm just extremely busy with apply to things and prepping to go back to school. Enjoy the chapter.

Fluttershy's POV

"It was the last thing my father gave me before he died," Sombra said, hanging his cape up on the coat rack. He frowned, continuing, "Only thing I had when I was banished. Are you sure this is a good idea?"

I nodded, starting upstairs as he followed. "Maybe visiting the Crystal Empire will help you reconnect with the people. And I'm sure FlurryHeart would like the company."

"I don't remember anyone named that," he said, walking to the other side of my room.

I smiled, answering, "It's Princess Cadence and Shining Armor's baby. She's so cute and sweet, can get into a bit of trouble too. I think you'll like her,"

Sombra hummed, settling into bed. "I'm not worried about the baby," he said as I turned the light off. "It's the people, it'll take Celestia herself for them to forgive me."

"Would you do it again if you had the chance?" I asked, watching his eyes faintly glow.

The covers rustled as he turned over. "Good night, Fluttershy," he said, pulling the cover over his head.

Sombra fidgeted as he sat on the train, keeping his eyes on everything outside and ignoring the few people staring at us. Stepping off the train, he stood in front of the empire a while longer before saying, "It's changed so much. I wish I had known better,"

I smiled, replying, "It's in the past now, I'm sure no one will notice you." I hoped no one would. Sending these people into a panic before meeting Cadence wouldn't be easy to clean up.

He huffed, walking alongside me as the castle towered overhead. "Let's just get this over with," he mumbled, his eyes darting around as ponies stopped and looked at him. He rubbed his arm, seemingly reaching for his cape. He left it to blend in more.

Silence carried throughout the square as we went towards the castle. Sombra breathed in as we stood in front of the door, slowly letting it out as the guards opened the door.

"You'll be fine," I said, nudging him. I swallowed as the throne room was ahead of us. "I can let you go alone this time, I'm sure—."

"No," he interrupted, lifting his head as his tail flickered. His cutie mark shifted as he backed away from the room for a moment. "I need you to watch over me. Make sure I don't. . ." he paused, shaking his head. "Just be there for me."

I nodded, feeling him walk behind me as I looked at Cadence and smiled. Sombra stood next to me, sending her and Shining Armor a short bow. "Princess, I want to. . .apologize for my treatment of the kingdom." He said, looking Cadence in the eye. "My—your people gave me their trust and I used it against them. Any punishment—."

"There won't be a punishment," Cadence said, cutting Sombra off. She stood, walking towards us. "Come with me." She ordered, going down the hall.

Sombra glanced at me then at Shining Armor before following Cadence.

"They'll be fine," I said, watching Shining's jaw tick. "Sombra's getting better, I promise."

Shining sighed, walking out of the room as well. "I hope so. FlurryHeart wanted to see you," he said, a fond smile crossing his face.

I smiled, trotting after him. I paused, hearing Cadence's voice in FlurryHeart's nursery.

"Fluttershy can help you with friendship, maybe even love, if you let her." She said, her gaze solely on Sombra as Flurry gurgled and squealed, reaching for him. "It's not her—."

"Job to change me. I know," he said, making a face at Flurry, getting closer to the pair. "Are you sure she was born like that?" he asked, blowing raspberries with Flurry.

"Yes," she replied as I slipped inside the room. I watched as Sombra floated with Flurry, twisting and turning with her. "Sombra, we can arrange meetings to ensure your progress."

He landed, holding Flurry, he cleared his throat. "That sounds fine, princess. Once a week," he offered, walking past me.

Cadence cleared her throat, holding her arms out for Flurry. Sombra frowned, mumbling, "She wouldn't let go, I don't kidnap babies."

Cadence scoffed, setting Flurry back in her crib with her favorite toy as her bottom lip trembled. "I'll see you two next week," she said, shooing away the guards at the door.

Sombra went ahead of me outside, ignoring the rest of the ponies as they gathered in front of the castle.

"Fluttershy," Cadence called, putting a hoof on my shoulder. "Please be careful around him. He might be changing, but something feels off."

I swallowed, replying, "I'll be fine, maybe Twilight can help us."

As I walked outside, I looked at the ponies gathered in front as they murmured and whispered.

"Was that King Sombra?" one mare asked, shaking.

"It can't be, he should be dead."

"Didn't look like him. Then again, never saw a crystal cutie mark with two toned crystals." A stallion said, looking back at the direction Sombra took.

I pushed through them, seeing Sombra at the station as the train pulled up. Reforming Discord wasn't this difficult.

"I doubt you could teach me love," Sombra said, spitting out the last word like a crabapple. "Friendship, sure. But love. . ." he laughed. "Try if you want to."

I frowned, opening the oven. "Maybe I will," I said, putting the apple pie on the table. If he wanted to be difficult then fine. Two can play at that game.
