A - is meant for a transition of P.O.V. for the story.
Tails looked toward the light sources and forced Fiona down behind a bush, temporarily hiding them from the guards. The higher ranked guards were barking orders to their subordinates as Tails' mind ran through a few ideas he had.
"Uh, I could create a distraction to lure them away while you run and find someplace safe," Tails said looking at the ten or so guards that approached the crash site as they spread out closing all escape routes.
He felt Fiona grip the collar of his uniform and then she pulled him down to his knees level with her face. She looked him in the eyes, for the first time he saw the expression of true fear on her face.
"No," she said in a hushed voice.
"Check the forest!" the head of the platoon of guards called out to his men, "Try to find those responsible."
"Just go with my plan. I'll go out there and draw…" Fiona just cut him off before he could finish.
"No, no, I almost lost you to a plane, I'm not letting you hand yourself over to them on a platter." she said still gripping the collar of his uniform, Fiona's eyes became misty as she talked to him.
"I've grown up a bit and I can outrun them. They're getting too close now, just run," Fiona pulled him into a kiss after he finished.
"When you get clear of them you come right back to me."
"Where else would I want to go?" He asked with a bit of bravado in his voice.
Fiona watched as Tails stood up and stepped back from her, "get to someplace safe and I'll try to find you."
She nodded as Tails decided to take off for the guards and draw their attention away from the forest. Fiona stood up just enough to see over the bush hiding her though she could not be seen by any of the guards she could see them. Fiona watched as Tails ran up to a piece of twisted metal impaled into the ground.
There was a small fire illuminating the area Tails was standing in, Fiona's ears flattened out as she saw him pick up a small pipe still containing some partial wiring. He swung the pipe at the twisted metal creating a great noise that grabbed the attention of all the guards.
Tails turned and ran as they began to chase him, "run faster," Fiona said to herself under her breath as she watched them chase her boyfriend.
Fiona turned away, fighting the urge to abandon Tails' plan and help him, and took off into the woods. Pangs of guilt hit her as she ran deeper and deeper into the woods. A few minutes went by and she decided to stop and rest against a tree. Fiona leaned her back against the bark of the tree and slowly slid down to her bottom. Fiona wrapped her tail around her waist and put her knees to her chest.
The air of the night was cool and the wind was a gentle breeze and the stars were out but blocked by the tree tops above. Fiona only looked at the ground as she waited for a few more minutes.
"Please be okay," Fiona thought to herself, a few bushes infront of her moved in an unnatural way.
They moved in the opposite direction of the wind and just stopped as Fiona took notice. She pulled the combat knife Harris had issued her just before they had left to scout the base on the surface.
"Come out, now!" She yelled to the person in the bush, taking a fighting stance.
Slowly a small brown fox came out of the foliage, no more than four or five years old, looking mostly at the blade in Fiona's hand than at her. He was wearing very little clothing, torn pants and he looked as though he had been taking care of.
"Who are you?" Fiona asked relaxing and sheathing her combat knife.
"My name is Joshua," he said in a frightened tone.
Tails was running from the guards who were in pursuit of him, he saw an old bridge, over a river, that looked ready to collapse at any minute. He ran over it and he could hear some of the old support struts give way as he and the guards ran over it. Tails jumped just before the bridge collapsed and caught the edge of the river's bed dangling over the water. He could hear the shrieks of the guards as they were swept away.
He swung his right leg up onto level ground and pulled himself up and sat for a second on the grass. Two trees on either side of the river had their branches overlapping each other.
"A new way back over, great," Tails said to himself, hating the idea.
He then walked over to the two trees and proceeded to climb up onto the one on his side to get to the other. Tails climbed to the branch he need then started to crawl to the middle where the trees connected. Tails attempted to switch branches but he slipped and caught the other branch before he could fall.
"Great idea Tails. Great fucking idea," he said to himself, his voice was strained as tried pulling himself up onto the branch instead of just hanging there.
He got onto the tree and climbed off it in a hurry to be off of the damn thing. He set off in the direction he last saw Fiona, he found the wreck of his plane in a few minutes of walking. Tails kept heading for the forest to find Fiona. Tails walked for what felt like an eternity, his feet hurt from the time spent, and finally heard someone but not Fiona. It was a child's laughter, he looked around to find the child.
Tails saw finally the person he was looking for and someone else. A small child was sitting in Fiona's lap laughing as she played with him. Tails smiled at the sight of Fiona acting just like a mother, he also noticed she had yet to notice his presence. An idea came to mind and a mischievous smile spread across his face.
Fiona had Jaeto in her lap and she was tickling the child making him laugh loudly. Joshua was squirming and laughing as Fiona tickled him mercilessly but Fiona stopped after she heard a noise off to her right.
"I'd never have pegged you to be the motherly type," Fiona snapped to her left hearing the voice.
"Tails!" she nearly screamed with overwhelming joy, the child now petrified in Fiona arms looked up at Tails with wide, worried eyes.
"Who's this little guy?" Tails asked kneeling down to see him better.
Joshua turned and hid his face in Fiona's chest as if she was his mother.
"His name is Joshua," Fiona said running her fingers gently through the hair on the back of Joashua's head.
"Are you trying to steal mygirlfriend, little man," Tails said jokingly with a smile on his face.
Joshua didn't respond he still held on tightly to Fiona, Tails looked at Fiona who looked shocked at his comment.
"I-I mean… I… do you want to make this official…" Tails chocked out nervouly looking at Fiona.
Fiona slid Joshua off her lap onto the soft ground under them and stood smiling in front of him. She raised her hand and pressed it against his cheek. He shuttered as she gently ran her fingers across his cheek.
"I wanted to, but I was just usure of where to start," Fiona said to him.
"Joshua!" a male voice shouted from a distance.
Fiona and Tails quickly turned toward the direction the call came from.
"I gotta go, dad's calling for me, bye!" Joshua said as he ran off through a few bushes.
Fiona watched as Joshua ran toward his home, "I'd like a son named Joshua."
"Uh.." She turned to Tails and saw his wide eyes.
"Not right now, so don't worry," Fiona said with a smile as she passed by him.
"If not now when?" Tails asked following her toward the base.
"I'm not sure when but maybe in a few years," a sly smirk grew on her face as they walked through the forest, "I'm definitelysure on who going to give them to me,"
Fiona looked to Tails smiling and slid her hand onto his interlocking their fingers together. The two foxes walked together until they reached the base, though the area was very different now. The area surrounding the entrance was now concret and pavement, large machines being controled by humans each in a kind of cabin on top of the machines creating a few structures on the surface.
A group of humans stood near the main entrance one broke away from his group and started to run over to Fiona and Tails.
Harris was standing in a group of human construction workers leading his project. They were all standing at a table strew with many different schematics and blueprints. Harris was looking down at the papers as the workers talked amoungst themselves. The sun had finally breached the horizon illuminating two figures walking slowly toward him.
Harris welcomed the two back and asked for a briefing on what happened. He was amazed by how Tails managed to come out of a plane crash with almost no damage.
"Wait, hold on a second. You went down with your plane in a fucking fireball and you didn't die?" Harris asked looking at Tails while rubbing the back of his neck.
"Yep," is all Tails said to him.
"You are either the dumbest or luckiest person ever," Harris said chuckling and smiling.
They were all sitting on a pallet stacked waist high with wood two by fours. Tails looked around at the construction as Fiona fiddled with her shirt.
"What's with all this?" Tails asked.
Harris felt his emotions boil inside of him hearing that question. A mixture of anger, sadness, and pride was brewing inside his head. He got up and stood in front of the two foxes and began to speak.
"We're finally coming back to life. A people laid to rest for almost an eternity will rise and take back what was ours. We will take this planet and reform our government. Within the next year it will be ours then we will take to the stars to reclaim our colonies on other planets," Harris exclaimed, his hands began to ball into fists, "those who join our faction will become allies, and those who do not become casualties."
"Is that really the honorable thing to do?" Tails asked.
Harris walked very calmly to Tails and said, "stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask them if honor matters."
Tails and Fiona sat there looking at Harris and gave no replies.
"The silence is your answer." He stood straight up and took his leave from the group.
