Author's Note:
I have no excuse for my disappearances as of late except for school and the new laptop I got, like, how the heck do I upload chapters from an app!? Hopefully I'll get used to it...anyways on with the OCs and the story!
Natasha-Chipmunk of Vengeance
Rahgol-TheTimberWolf09
On with the story! And thanks to everyone who's reviewed, favorite, and followed!
"Something big?" Alvin frowns as his gaze flickers to Natasha who hurries into the room and begins to rifle through the boxes laying upon the floor, having been discarded by their human caretakers.
"Uh, guys she's right," Simon adjusts his dark rimmed glasses upon the bridge of his nose as his fingers work at the keyboard in front of him, the fuzzy image upon the computer monitor blurring in and out of focus until Jeanette slips her paw up and clicks a single button, the image comes into perfect focus.
"Whoa how'd you-"
"What the heck is that!?" Simon jumps in alarm as Brittany cuts him off, the rodents huddle around the monitor as they absorb the clear image of the creature Natasha had mentioned.
From the angle of the camera outside they can only see it's back and side, but it's a good enough angle that they can tell just how BIG the thing is. It's roughly around the size of an elephant but it seems to belong to the feline family, it's tail is about as long as it's body and drags along on the cracked earth like a dead limb, it's skin looks grainy and rough just like the Wasteland.
"Holy fu-" Alvin grunts as Simon jabs his elbow into his ribs nearly making him bite his tongue, "What!?" he yelps as the ground quakes softly beneath their paws.
"I told you, and none of you listen," Natasha rolls her sapphire green eyes as she pulls out what looks like a cluster of simple white orbs, Simon hops down from his perch and takes a few from her, "We don't know what that thing is, how do we know that these bombs will work?" He asks frowning.
"Those are bombs?" Eleanor asks as her eyes widen, the ground quakes again beneath them, harder this time, it makes a few items on the shelves titter towards the edge and the rodents cringe as they wait for another sign of the approaching trouble.
Alvin moves forward quickly and yanks a bomb from Simon's grasp, "So we don't know what the hell that thing is, let's test some theories shall we?" He grins widely and suddenly bolts from the room, "Alvin wait!" Simon yells fisting a paw into his hair, "Gah one day he will die..." he grounds through his teeth as he turns to the others, "We need to gather as much weaponry we can, I've never seen something like this and I have no idea what will damage it, Alvin is risking his tail out there and we'll need to supply him with weapons," He says as his sea blue eyes drifts from face to face; the munk frowns when he realizes that not only is Alvin missing...but now so is Brittany.
"So how do these work?" Alvin whips around and growls at the chipette who cracks a smug grin at him, leaning casually against the Vault door as if they weren't about to face some sort of monstrosity, "What are you doing!?" He grits through his teeth as she approaches him and yanks the bomb from his paw.
"I want to blow it up!" she answers simply making the munk blink owlishly, trying to let her answer sink in, "Y-you what? That's a stupid excuse!" He shouts as she narrows her eyes, "What's yours then?" she seethes making him come up short yet again, how come she always had to stump him? It's so damn annoying, the russet furred rodent huffs and shakes his head.
"Fine, just don't get in my way," he states coldly as he turns his back to her and checks over his interior system's functioning, small charts flit across the surface of his pupils and he is relieved to see that he's pretty much back to normal save for the higher percentile of adrenalin which isn't much of a surprise since he's about to fight.
Brittany scowls at his back and looks down at the bomb in her paw, would something so small really have an affect on this creature? Was it even really dangerous? Her gaze drifts over to Alvin who has straightened up, his dark golden eyes probing the dusty terrain and the chipette curiously follows his gaze, wondering what his enhanced sight is seeing.
"It's getting closer," he states a moment later as a few pebbles near their hind paws begin to quiver and bounce along the surface of the earth, Brittany lifts her gaze up in time to see the large form as it suddenly breaks through the dust circling through the air.
It's head looked squashed together, it's two eyes are completely black and are stationed on either side of it's head and it's muzzle is short and flattened, it's ears are similar to a cows and a crop of scruffy hair starts at it's scalp and stops halfway down it's neck.
"Ugh ugly," Alvin wrinkles his nose as if the creature smelled bad and a moment later Brittany's nose is hit with a foul scent that makes her gag, oh so the thing did stink, great.
Alvin adjusts one of the bombs in his paws and a soft whirring sound comes from the orb-like device as a blue light filters between his fingers, he walks up to Brittany and presses two fingers against the top of the orb, it starts whirring and blue light shines through invisible cracks along it's surface, "When you throw it press in the same area I did, it only takes ten seconds for it to go off after that so don't hang onto it," the chipette nods, listening to his voice as his paw lingers against hers he moves away just as the creature stops walking.
It stands still, it's blank dark stare focused straight ahead of it as if it were looking at something in the sky that only it could see, Alvin steps forward and arches his arm back before clicking the button and launching it towards the creature's leg, the bomb doesn't even make contact before it explodes in a brilliant flash of blue flames.
Gray smoke cascades down to the earth and when it fades the two rodents are stunned to see that the bomb did no damage what-so-ever, "Dammit!" Alvin curses scowling at the sight, Brittany tilts her head as she squints at the area the bomb hit.
It looked like a different shade then the rest of it, "Hey...maybe you weakened it, here try it again," she holds out her own bomb and he takes it nodding thoughtfully as he arms the bomb and tosses it again, it hits in the same area as before, this time the creature responds.
"Get down!" Brittany gasps as Alvin tackles her and pins her against the earth, something whistles past their ears and wind buffets against their bodies, dust swirling around them, "Didn't think it would be that nimble," Alvin helps Brittany to her paws and she realizes that the monster had used it's tail to try and knock them off their feet.
"Look!" She points to the monster's leg where black ink-like blood oozes down it's leg from a single hole in it's flesh, "So it takes two bombs to weaken the flesh on it's legs..." Alvin's gaze travels along the creature's body eyeing it's chest area with a frown.
"Alvin, Brittany you there?" Brittany jumps at the static laced voice coming through Alvin's collar, "Yeah we're here Simon, what's up?" he asks pressing a button on his collar as the creature turns back around slowly, reminding Brittany of a giant turtle at the zoo.
"We've gathered as many weapons as we could, Natasha will be coming out to aid you guys so don't be alarmed when the Vault door opens," Alvin nods as his gaze drifts the firmly locked door, the creature's mouth drops open and an ear shattering roar explodes from it's throat, the two rodents cringe and cover their ears in hopes of drowning out the sound but it does little good.
Brittany cowers against the earth her heart racing as she ground trembles against her body, her ears begin to burn and a high pitched whining sound fills her numbed ears, something nudges her shoulder and she jerks back in alarm as Alvin comes into view, his mouth moving as he tugs at her arm, harder this time as a look of confusion passes over his face.
She shakes her head, she couldn't hear a word he's saying, his paws are suddenly yanking her off the ground and she feels the world tilt as something slams onto the cracked soil behind them.
Alvin pulls Brittany along gazing back at the chipette as she stares ahead blankly, something red drips from her ears and the munk recalls that regular creatures have red blood just like the humans do, panic settles over him as he realizes the creature is turning back around, readying itself to charge.
The Vault can withstand the worst sandstorms, but he isn't too sure how it'd hold up against a monster the size of an elephant with doubled the strength, he shoves Brittany ahead of him and she stumbles obviously still not recovering her hearing as she looks back at him her eyes wide with fright.
"Keep running!" He shouts as the Vault doors slide open, he recognizes the barrel of the new rocket launcher Simon had been helping to design and he curses beneath his breath as Brittany slows, a warning flashes in the corner of his eyes and he realizes that his body is telling him that he's hyperventilating.
Alvin closes his eyes as the machine begins to turn on automatically, it wasn't designed to be controlled by human means, it's programmed to defend the Vault against any threat and the beast behind them is defiantly a threat, the only down side is...Alvin and Brittany are in the direct line of fire.
Something clicks deep within the munk's mind and he stops in his tracks as the world takes on a dark green hue, his breathing evens out as all his muscles relax, Alvin panics on the inside as he realizes what's happening just as a shape comes into view, a shape ranging in different colors from yellow, orange and red, however unlike the humans he's seen instead of a red hot color at her center Brittany's is a brilliant white, like a star.
He catches his breath as he studies her heat signature, however his body moves forward with swift purpose and Brittany let's out a startled cry as he hooks one arm around her waist and hoists her off her feet, his programming droning on about what he needs to do.
1. Grab the objective
2. Find shelter
3. Avoid death
The last one is a no-brainer to Alvin but his programming was in charge now and it seemed to want to make that part of it's "Survival Mode List". This is a part of him he wishes they left out, the part where he was still awake but could control nothing but his inner thoughts, it's like someone took the wheel and left him to sit in the passenger seat watching in horror as the driver drove the vehicle off a bridge. Except this time the programming isn't harming Brittany, it's saving her.
The ground begins to shake roughly beneath his paws at the beast charges, the rocket launcher makes a loud humming sound and Alvin's body shoves Brittany into a small indent in the earth, climbing over her and hunkering down just as a blast of heat scorches his back, that's when the control came back full force.
Alvin cries out and curls closer to Brittany as he grits his teeth to stop another pained scream from escaping his mouth, the heat feels like liquid fire against his spine and for once Alvin's glad he has the inability to cry.
Not as long as I would've liked it to be but I will have the next chapter up soon! Sorry the skips as well.
Thanks to everyone again for the kind reviews!
