Cathrine

Blond hair, blue eyes, and from a country Deirdre had always dreamed of traveling to. The Professor had found a mutant that showed potential of becoming a strong student of the institute all the way in Norway, and he had brought Deirdre along in hopes that her ability to speak Norwegian would calm the woman they were trying to recruit.

Deirdre however, had warned Professor Xavier that she was not fluent in Norwegian, and was not the best candidate to come along on the trip.

"Why not use your abilities Professor?" She had asked before leaving for Fagernes, Norway. Of curse he had told her it was wrong to use his abilities in that way. Her reply to that was a quick canine snort.

Now, Deirdre smiled warmly at a young woman standing before her and the Professor. "Hei," she began. "Jeg heter Deirdre," she pointed toward the professor, "Han hetter Charles Xavier." The young woman blinked at her, Deirdre sighed and continued. "Er du engelsk?"

"Ja, jeg er engelsk…" The woman replied.

With the revaluation of the young woman's ability to speak English, Deirdre almost jumped her in a hug of joy. Instead she settled for a long sigh of relief.

"Thank the lady," Deirdre said rubbing the back of her neck and smiling at the girl. "I haven't mastered my norsk…" she explained, "so I have no confidence at all when it comes to speaking it."

The woman stayed silent through out Deirdre's explanation, causing the other woman to blink and stare at the young woman's cold shoulder.

Deirdre sighed, "okay…" she began looking toward the professor, "Alright Professor she can speak English, sooo you shouldn't have any trouble."

Deirdre started to turn away, "So since you don't need me anymore, I'll just go wait in the Blackbird for you and our new freund." She gave the word friend a German twist.

The Professor reached for Deirdre's arm and halted her from her fleeing.

"Please, stay at my side Miss ó Faoláin." He said, being way to formal for Deirdre's liking.

She was not use to the Professor calling her by her last name, and in truth it made her quite uneasy.

Professor Xavier smiled and turned his attention to the young mutant girl standing before him and Deirdre.

"Hello Cathrine." He greeted, "I am Professor Charles Xavier, but you may call me Professor Xavier."

He smiled and continued, "I run a school for the gifted like you."

The young woman tilted her head softly in confusion.

"Gifted, like me?" She asked softy a sweet European accent rising from her lips.

Deirdre found herself blushing, Cathrine was so pretty the young woman could put super models to shame.

"Yes, like you, and like us."

The professor gestured to Deirdre and looked up at the empathic shifter with a smile.

"Would you show her Mss ó Faoláin?" He asked sweetly.

Deirdre blinked at the Professor for a moment and then nodded, "of curse professor…"

She took a step back, closing her eyes and then concentrated.

A silvery mist began to lift around her, trapping her within a vortex of silver dust. The woman within the mist let out a low sigh and then vanished within the fog, and when the fog cleared a gray timber wolf stood in the place of the woman. The wolf looked up at Cathrine, gray orbs meeting that of the blue sky. The wolf smirked, and then allowed the silvery mist to devour its form once more changing it back into a woman.

"We are you friends Cathrine," Deirdre replied stepping from the silver mist that vanished around her.

She gave the other woman a soft smile, "We want you to join us, and come to New York to enroll in the Professor's school for the gifted."

Cathrine stayed quiet, the stern coldness of the young woman put Deirdre off but the empathic shape shifter kept her smile calm and pleasant.

"Will you?" Deirdre asked keeping a friendly melody to her words.

The other looked hesitant, as if she was uncertain of their friendliness.

Cathrine glanced between the Professor and Deirdre, then smiled and lifted up her hands. She breathed in, and then exhaled as she forced the air around her to form into small little tornadoes within her palms.

"I can manipulate the air around me, the wind." She smirked and closed her hands, destroying the small tornadoes. "I will come with you to this…School of the gifted."

She lowered hands back to her side, her smirk showing sign of smugness.

Professor Xavier nodded. "That is excellent my dear," he begun turning to head back to the Blackbird.

Deirdre smiled and offered her hand to Cathrine.

"Come on," she began. "If you want, before we return to the Mansion, if there is any place you wish to stop at, any family members you wish to say good-bye too…"

"I have no others," Cathrine interrupted walking pass Deirdre.

Deirdre watched as Cathrine headed after the Professor, her hand dropping as she allowed a hopeless sigh to escape from her lips.

"Okay…"

The blackbird landed just as the X-men were returning from a mission, the small group of X-Men waited for their chance to greet the home comers.

As the door to the aircraft opened, and the hatch lowered to allow its passengers to touch land. Deirdre burst out from the plane, her hands were spread out at her side for balance as she carefully lowered herself step by step down the ramp until her feet touched the sold concrete of the base's floor.

"By the lady!" She cheered, returning her hands back to her side as she leap off the remainder of the ramp and stepped forward to allow the other two beings to escape the belly of the metal bird.

Deirdre inhaled, and then exhaled.

"Glade to be home," she thought warmly as she looked around her for the reason the mansion was now being called her home.

Deirdre almost released a soft whimper of sadness when she could not find what she was looking for, however, soon after another look around the room she caught the glimpse of a certain blue furry elf standing beside the rest of her teammates.

"NIGHTCRAWLER!" She howled racing toward the teleporter with great speed. She bounded forward and leap into the blue creatures arms.

The man smiled and then laughed, wrapping his arms around her.

"I've missed you so much!" She moaned pressing her face into his warmth. "I hate flying, hate heights…I did not like it one bit!" She complained pulling her face from Nightcrawler's chest to place it on his shoulder.

Nightcrawler chuckled, "And Norway, how vas it?" he asked moving her face in front of his so he could capture her gaze.

Deirdre smiled, "Beautiful…only wish I had a camera with me so I could've brought home pictures."

Kurt placed a gentle kiss on her lips, "I vould have liked that…" He gave her another gentle peck.

They hugged for another moment until a clearing of a throat interrupted their reunion.

Deirdre glared toward the culprit who had so rudely interrupted her moment with Nightcrawler.

Jean Grey backed up slightly and gave the wild woman a soft waned smile.

"The mutant?" She asked carefully.

Deirdre pulled away from Nightcrawler and turned to face the professor and Cathrine.

"Meet Cathrine Buran, manipulator of the winds." She said playfully as the woman in question walked up to greet everyone.

Cathrine strolled up beside Charles Xavier when he approached his students. She glanced curiously toward each of the individuals she faced.

The woman who had accompanied Xavier in her recruitment, the shifter, now stood in front of a blue demon.

Cathrine's heart raced when her gaze fell onto the demon.

Gentle yellow orbs flicked in her direction and Cathrine smiled.

She began to study the relationship between the woman named Deirdre and the demon. Interest in the other mutant began to form within her.

She stepped up and held her hand out toward the demon.

"Cathrine," She said softly pushing her hand behind the shifter and introducing herself to the azure creature.

She felt the gaze of the other woman on her hand, and ignored her. She was more interested in the creature as he reached his hand from behind the shifter and took hers in his.

"Nightcrawler," he told her.

Cathrine sighed.

"Cathrine…" She repeated.

She could hear a small growl escape the other woman's lips.

The demon smiled.

"Kurt Wagner," he said with a German accent.

Cathrine returned the man's smile.

"You're European?" She asked falsifying excitement.

Kurt nodded his head as he pulled his hand away from hers and tucked it around the shifter's waist.

Cathrine's gaze followed the blue three-digit hand as it traveled to lock around the shifter's waist. The young woman looked up to meet Deirdre's gray glance, and she could see a small spark of loathing rise up in the other woman's gaze.

"I'm from Germany," Kurt answered.

Cathrine returned her gaze to the man.

"A German." She said, "I would like to get to know you, Mr. Wagner." Cathrine smiled, "I'm far away from my home, and I would enjoy the companionship of another."
