Author's Note: Like a lot of my works, there are false starts for Ginger Snaps. As I'm getting down to the last couple chapters, I've decided for this Feast of Stephen to present to you the discards from that story with some notes as to why. Chapters are referenced by title, not number, as this story begins with a prologue which confuses some people.

The first discard is from "Singing in the Rain", where Draco realizes he's got a crush on the female Harry, not knowing that it is Harry Potter. After I started writing it, I realized that I was making Draco a bit too mature, so discarded it.

Draco was pretty sure that this was the first meal he'd actually eaten that was cooked by a witch. Most of the time he'd had house elf prepared food, and once, last year, Professor Snape had taken him out for something called fast food. Draco wouldn't admit it to anyone, but he loved the taste of Irn-Bru.

The witches who had cooked the meal were seated with him, along with Professor Snape. Both of them were dressed in muggle clothes. The one that Professor Snape called Ginger, reminded him a bit of the Weasley girl, but he knew that she didn't have green eyes. He couldn't stop looking at those red haired, green eyed, girls.

Ginger was wearing this pale blue short sleeve shirt, which she had left its three buttons unbuttoned. If the buttons had just went down just a bit further, he was sure he'd see a bit more of her boobs. Not that she had a lot, but Draco was fascinated with boobs of all sizes. He wanted to feel them in his hands. Even his father had noticed.

The other girl, Harikleia, appeared to have not really gotten up all day. Draco was sure that the gray dress she was wearing was really just a night shirt. It was shorter than the white apron she wore. Not short enough, though. Draco really wished he could see what was under that shirt. He had a vivid imagination, but really didn't know what a girl looked like, down there, save that they were different. He was an only child, after all.

I had a plan to do a potion's lesson for "Preventive Dosing", and it didn't go the way I wanted. Then I realized that it was a bit out of focus for a Ginny scene, and rewrote it, cutting the potion's lesson.

Ginny Weasley felt very lucky to be included in the latest potions tutorial that Professor Snape had offered. This particular one was designed for some of the second year Slytherins who hadn't done as well as the Professor wanted them to. As she'd just completed her first year, it was somewhat an honor be included with the three Slytherins, Crabbe, Goyle, and Parkinson.

It was also the first time her backstory would really be tested. She was not as well hidden as Harry. She really didn't need to be. Her disguise really existed to bolster Harry's. So she was Ginger Prince. Her brown eyes were green. Her hair had been altered to be a bit closer to Harry's particular shads with muggle hair color. Instead of the simple hairstyles she'd favored at Hogwarts, the mid part or the pony tail, she had chosen to put her hair up in a bun, and used a couple knitting needles to hold it in place. Of course, the Professor had transfigured them to appear much nicer than the plain polished wood that her mother had given her.

Ginny was highly unlikely to do any knitting, even though her mother had packed yarn and the knitting needles. Despite what she's thought when she'd left the Burrow, Spinner's End turned out to be a rather fun place to spend the summer, even if she'd spent most of it getting treatment from a mind healer, and it had rained in the most inconvenient times. Still she'd managed to walk through the neighborhood, play on the swings in the park. Professor Snape had even offered to take them to a muggle 'Olympic sized' pool tomorrow. She just had to get through today's tutorial.

Ginny carefully cut the pears required for the potion that Professor Snape was having her prepare in his basement potions lab. Beside her at the same table was Parkinson. The other table had Crabbe and Goyle.

"Miss Parkinson, pay attention to the way Miss Prince cuts her pears," Snape said. "It is very precise, and every cut is even."

"How do you manage to do that, Prince?" Parkinson asked of Ginny.

"See the mark on the cutting board," Ginny explained. "Every time I'm about to make a cut, I move the pear up against it.

He was carefully observing her technic, and actually smiling. It was somewhat disturbing, actually. The Professor never smiled in class.

"Ginny, what is the most difficult potion you've ever prepared?" he suddenly asked, as she just finished with the last pear. "Put those aside and dice finely the new

"I think that would be Scouring Solution, sir," Ginny replied. "Mum has had me making it since Ron left for Hogwarts."

"That is a rather difficult potion for a first even a second year," Snape said. "Are you more likely to make it too strong or too weak?"

"Too strong, way too strong," Ginny said. "The batch I made before Ron came home last year stripped the finish off the floor, even when it was diluted five to one. Mum says it's because I pick my own dandelion leaves."

"I see," Snape said, "Adjusting for the freshness of ingredients is a topic for third year, when you will gather the ingredients for several potions varying days before the class you use them in during Herbology.

This bit is really short from "Departing the End", because I realized that Harry needed to return to Privet Drive with Snape instead, but it's a discard, so here it is.

Harry Potter, still female, sat in the passenger's seat of Mrs. Weasley's Stag. Having recently heard about his father's patronus, he found the fact that he was going back to Privet Drive in a Stag to be somewhat amusing when he realized it. In fact he'd giggled shortly after it hit him, just as they were pulling on the M6.

This particular version nearly was in the most recent chapter "After Effects" but I realized that my introduction of Tonks didn't quite work, and it was a character addition that happened too late. So it was rewritten almost entirely (save the first three paragraphs).

Harry Potter pounded down the stairs. He couldn't believe it. He'd though he was done with being a girl. He was looking forward to tomorrow and his planned kiss of Ginny Weasley. In fact he'd had a really good dream about it after Professor Snape had given him the talk. That had been embarrassing, but not as embarrassing as his aunt discovering that his sheets needed to be changed.

The suddenly, while he was changing, he had to end up changing back into his girl form. It was a good thing that his boxers actually fit now, because if he'd been wearing the pairs that he'd worn before Spinner's End, he was sure that he would have ended up practical naked when it slipped down. And it was a really good thing that he had turned back quickly.

He knew who to blame, and once again, like he had that day she had work up bleeding. ""Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore," he growled, in an echo of that day, each syllable matched with a pounding step down the stairs.

When he got down to the kitchen, Mrs. Weasley wasn't there. Instead there was a witch with pink hair who hadn't been there when he'd went upstairs to get ready for bed. "Where's Mrs Weasley."

"She just took Fred and George to Spinner's End," the pink haired woman said. "I'm Auror Trainee Tonks. I just got dumped by Charlie by letter, so I had to check to see if I was still invited to Ginny's birthday party tomorrow, and see if he's still coming, which he isn't. I promised to stay until she came back to keep an eye on things. So what's the problem."

"That bloody potion is still making me a girl again," Harry growled.

"Really. Did you get exposed to another dose?" Harry shook his head. "Potions only do transformations when consumed.," Tonks said, as Ron came to a stop behind him.

"Then how did I turn back to a girl," Harry replied. "I'm sure I didn't drink any more of the potion. I was just telling Ron about how I looked as a girl, and suddenly I was back as a girl."

"Hmmm, can you imagine yourself with, say hair the same color as mine," Tonks asked. "Just think about how you'd look with it."

Harry thought about the idea of him with pink hair. It would never be something he was allowed to do, but he had seen many a rebellious teen with strange hair colors, especially a couple on Spinner's End, part of the group that Professor Snape had intimidated to silence. He could see himself with pink hair, maybe a little longer than his current black hair. A wisp of that hair appeared in his vision. He had pink hair. "What!"

"It appears that you're a triggered metamorphmagus," Tonks said, as Harry's hair turned back to black. "I was born one, but sometimes something triggers it. Think hard enough and concentrate and you can look like whatever you want to. I have a bit of trouble with cross sex morphs, but if the potion you had was the one that I think it was, in April's issue, then you've been effectively trained for that particular form. Much better than spending a week under polyjuice to learn, which is the only way a female metamorphmagus can learn. Now think about how you looked as a girl, and we'll see how long you can hold it."

Harry thought about how he'd looked as a girl, and suddenly his hair turned red and his breasts swelled, pushing against the pajama top. His boxers were no longer pushed slightly to the right. He was a girl again, the flame haired maiden.

"Cool," Ron said. "You've got the same color of hair as Ginny does."

"No, hers is a bit more orange than mine," Harry said automatically. "The Professor called mine a mass of flame, flickering auburn and scarlet."

"Well, it looks to me like you've got it down," Tonks said. "At least that form. You didn't even change any when Ron gave a different description. Keep focus on it, and let the feeling and image fill your mind. Just another couple minutes."

Harry nearly made it, but the sound of Mrs. Weasley flooing back in caused him to loose his concentration and revert.

"Good, Harry," Tonks said. "Mrs. Weasley – Molly, it looks like Harry here had his latent morphic trait from the Black Family triggered. He can turn back to him as a girl like he was under the potion. Show Mrs. Weasley how you change, Harry."

"Really, that's a rare trait," Mrs. Weasley said, as Harry once again felt his hair get longer and breasts swell. "We're related to the Black Family, Aurther's grandmother is was Cedrella, anbut have never had any one turn out to be one."

"How exactly am I related to the Blacks?" Harry asked.

Tonks tilted her head briefly, and then said. "You know, I'm not actually sure. I know you are, but exactly how, I'm not sure. I thought it was via Dorea who married Charlus, who I thought was your grandmother, but your grandmother was Euphemia, who married Fleamont. I think it might have been by Taurus Black's eldest daughter, Andromeda, twin to the first Cygnus, who my mother was named after. Was she the one who married Josiah Fleamont? Whose daughter married Henry Potter's mother inflicting that awful name on Harry's grandfather?"

"I think so," Molly said. "That makes you sixth cousins twice removed, I think. I'd be a sixth cousin. We'd have to double check though."

"I'll ask

Now as just a bit of background, for the above scene, I decided to connect up the Potter and Black trees a bit higher for direct ancestry for Harry for this story, using JKR's trees and building on them. To work up and back down here is Harry's connection to the Blacks...

Harry Potter, son of James Potter and Lily Evans
James Potter, son of Fleamont Potter and Euphemia
Fleamont Potter, son of Henry Potter
Henry Potter, son of the last Fleamont, Nymphadora
Nymphadora Fleamont, daughter of Josiah Fleamont and Andromeda Black
Andromeda Black, daughter of Taurus Black

And working back down to Nyphadora Tonks

Cygnus Black I, son of Taurus Black and twin brother of Andromeda Black
Phineas Nigellus Black, son of Cyrus Black II
Cygnus Black II, son of Phineas Nigellus Black and Ursula Flint
Pollux Black, son of Cyrus Black II and Violetta Bulstrode
Cygnus Black III, son of Pollux Black and Irma Crabbe
Andromeda Black II, daughter of Cygnus Black III and Druella Rosier
Nymphadora Tonks, daughter of Ted Tonks and Andromeda Black II

And working back down from the same for Ginny Weasley

Cygnus Black I, son of Taurus Black and twin brother of Andromeda Black
Phineas Nigellus Black, son of Cyrus Black II and Violetta Bulstrode
Arcturus Black, son of Phineas Nigellus Black and Ursula Flint
Cedrella Black, daughter of Arcturus Black and Lysandra Yaxley
Arthur Weasley, son of Septimus Weasley and Cedrella Black
Ginny Weasley, daughter of Arthur Weasley and Molly Prewett

This makes Harry sixth cousins once removed with Tonks, and sixth cousins with Ginny. Ginny is a third cousin once removed of Tonks.
