Chapter 11: Sins of the Father
The gun I am holding now is something new. I've never handled one like this before. It looks more like a hunting rifle from the catalogs that uncle Vernon would buy. I advance with the rest of the men as I examine the gun. It has a simple... stock? Made of a sturdy wood. The barrel is simple at that with a scope mounted above and a bolt sticking out of the side. The clip is completely flush with the rest of the gun, so I look for a release for it, which I find under the clip.
I finally look up to see we have gotten into a junkyard full of cars. "Bravo Six," I'm still Soap! Though Jackson is dead, sooo. "This is Vulture One-Six. Radio jammers are active, you're cleared to engage the guard station. Out." we give no reply as we walk further into the junkyard and up over a broken part of a sheet-metal barrier.
Once clear of the barrier, I find that we are right next to a guard station. Man, I thought it would have taken longer to get here from waking up. Price stands to the side of the building and commands, "Soap, get on that dumpster and prepare to take out the guards in the tower on my mark. The rest of you follow me."
I look around and the only dumpster I see is one full of empty fuel drums. I climb up the rusty container as the men start to disperse. I put my crosshairs on the left most guy in the tower. On Price's go, I squeeze the trigger and the gun barks in my hand. I shift and squeeze the trigger once more. It does nothing but click.
I duck as fire peppers the roof in front of me as I look at the rifle. I grab the bolt and pull it up and back. A spent round shoots out of the slot and I see a new one takes its place. So this thing is a bolt-action... I kind of feel stupid for not figuring that out with it having a bolt on the side and all. I pop back up and quickly aim at the man shooting at me. I squeeze the trigger and take him out at the neck.
I jump down as I switch the sniper for the assault rifle on my back. I run into the thick of things and start to gun down any enemy soldiers I see. We slowly advance into the guard station, but we lose some men as we push for one of the buildings. They are dug in deep under the windows and it is concrete, so our bullets won't penetrate through.
To counter this, Price commands us, "Take cover and when you of them pops out, shoot their bloody heads off!" I decide to take my position behind a burnt out car and whenever anyone pops out, they are met with a ocean of bullets. The enemy catches on pretty quickly that looking out is a death sentence, so they stop.
As I scan the windows, I see some allies stalking under the building as they pull something out. I don't have long to guess as they fiddle with the objects, then throw it into the rooms. In a few seconds, the grenades go off and the walls seem to buckle under the impact. At this, we all charge and storm the station. There is only two guys left, so we make quick work of them before they can recover from the blast. "Area secure," Griggs says as he let's his weapon down. I let the gun in my hand hang off my torso as I come out of cover.
Price has us regroup. "All right, let's get this place sorted out. Change into the enemy uniforms and douse the fires. Kamarov, I need your men on the ground if the drivers start asking questions. Just keep them busy until we locate Zakhaev's son."
We all shout "Sir!" and get to work. I grab some of the enemy bodies and drag them into the station and into a backroom. Some men join me to help move the bodies into the room. We put our own allies in another room in neat rows, not just tossing them in a pile like we do with the dead Russians. Do not disrespect dead comrades. Even I know this.
When I get to the chunks of people, I gag a bit as I carry the bloody chunks and toss them into the enemy room. This is a job that no one else takes, seeing as I "got this." When all is done, I use the hose that the men were using to put the fires out to wash my hands of all the gore and fluid.
Gaz comes up behind me, "Soap!" I jump from the loud shout and turn quickly. Gaz is standing there with a smirk on his face. "Hey mate! Your uniform is waiting for you in the station. Put your uniform in the provided dufflebag. We have people coming to pick up our dead and they will get the bags on the way out." I nod and go find it.
I grab the gear and strip off my SAS uniform and shrug on the Russian version. I make sure to tuck everything in and replace all my ammo into the vests. As I do this, some more men come in as well and change into the enemy outfit. When I'm ready, I put my stuff into the bag and when I ask, I find a pile of bags within our allies resting place.
I climb the guard tower with Griggs to get a vantage point with my sniper rifle. The sun is just peeking over the horizon. After a few minutes, I hear Griggs chuckle, "Man, you look like a clown in that uniform. Good thing you're up here because you look nothing like a Russian." I nod with a smirk on my face. I'm a fourteen year old English kid. A Russian soldier I do not make.
I check my rifle over and find it fully loaded. Vulture comes over the radio as I finish up my check, "Bravo Six, this is Vulture One-Six, we're tracking an enemy convoy headed your way. I count six vehicles in the convoy, over." I look down the road, noticing two of our own on the roof of the gas pumps. How did they get up there?
Price confirms that we heard it, "Roger that. Nobody fires a shot until I give the order." Griggs ducks behind the wooden structure we are in to hide his uniform as he is in his American uniform. I see movement down the road and the convoy is almost here. I shoulder the rifle and look around the convoy for a younger man.
It is rather easy to find the man as he is in the only jeep and not in uniform. He is wearing some track suit that stands out among the greenish brown of his troops. Gaz starts walking towards the jeep, "Wanker... I got a positive ID on Zakhaev's son. In the jeep, third from the front. I'm walking by it now."
Price repeats the order over all the comms. "We need to take him alive, so watch your fire. Standby... Standby... Smoke 'em." I shift my aim to the person in the backseat and fire. The man's head explodes as gunfire kicks up from everywhere. Rockets streak out and take out the armor and our troops kill all the drivers.
I pull the bolt back and fire at another soldier. I unload my six rounds into people until I hear wheels squeal on the road. Looking down, I see the son's car ramming at my tower! "Shit! Hold onto something!" I shout over at Griggs.
The car slams into our supports and the tower starts leaning to the right. I drop to the ground and brace myself on the left railing. Griggs does the same as the tower starts to fall. The structure slams into the ground with a mighty crash and the sound of splintering wood.
My hand hold gives under the hit and I hit the ground hard enough to knock the wind out of my lungs. I gasp for air as I look around in a daze. I see the son stumble out of his jeep and take off by me. I weakly try to trip him up, but I miss the grab for his leg. I can only groan as my lungs scream and my body joining after reopening some bullet wounds from yesterday.
After taking four more gasps, I stagger to my feet as Price comes over the radio, "Soap! Take Griggs and chase him down. We'll handle the enemy reinforcements and catch up. Go go!" I push off the ground into a sprint with Griggs close behind me.
We run around the side of the building I fell next to and jump back into the junkyard. Vulture One-Six reports in that they are tracking the son. "Damn this guy moves fast!" as we pass the mid point of the yard, he reports, "Ok he's leaving the junkyard to the north west. Get his ass, move move!" I'm trying, but this fucker is fast. That track suit must not be just for show!
As I approach the house at the end of the path, a dog charges out of the door, but having already been attacked by three of these things, I don't break stride as I kick the dog in the face. It flies back and Griggs executes it as I pass the canine trying to catch up with the son.
We run through the building and come out into the main street of the town. I look to my right and see the man booking it down the street. "Ok, the target is moving... North... he's headed towards the outskirts of the city. Be advised, this area is crawling with hostile forces, over." Great.
I immediately see what he means as we enter the town. A few dozen guys are in the streets of the town waiting for us. When we round the corner, I dive behind one of the cars that litter the streets as bullets rain down at Griggs and me.
The only good thing that comes from this is that the son takes this as a stand-off point. The guy stands tall in the middle of the street as he fires a pistol at us. I have to scowl as I have a clear shot to kill in every time I pop out, but I have to kill the people around the guy instead. "Price, can I knee cap this bastard?! He is just begging for it at this point!" I cry over the radio as I kill another person around the son.
"Negative Soap. Too risky!" I growl at this as I kill another person. Griggs starts moving up, killing people left and right with his automatic fire, clearing a path for me to move up as well. As we charge, our allies starts to stream in as well which helped along the panic in the enemy.
Bullets zip by my body as I charge the son. The noise of the displaced air filling my ears. The son, seeing our advance towards him decides that now is the time to go. "Soap! Griggs! Gaz! Go after him! We'll stay here and keep these bastards off your back!" Yes, I got the battle hungry SAS soldier with me this time.
Griggs confirms that we heard this, "Roger that! Soap! Go through the alley on the left!" It would seem I'm taking point.
The three of us burst into the alley. I run around the corners with my rifle on my shoulder. I round a corner with a staircase right into a group of soldiers. My finger is depressing the trigger before my mind can register anything past enemy. I spray the guys down as I back pedal to the corner. Five Russians go down as I round the corner once more and take cover.
After the first burst of gunfire, I peek out and shoot a few more people before hiding again. Gaz suddenly sprints past me and take cover on the corner across from me. "Up the stairs Soap!" the man calls as he starts firing at the soldiers that have us pinned.
I nod and with a silent countdown, I dart out of the cover and run up the stairs, taking them three at a time. I arrive at the top and barrel into the room. I see two hostiles in there, gazing at me in surprise, but that quickly changed to fear as I raise my rifle when they still have theirs in a loose grip. I gun the pair down before taking a window.
I get a vantage point on the people below, so I blow off the tops of the enemies heads. It doesn't take long after I get up there to clear out the street. I jump back down the stairs and join the pair I left at the bottom as we move up. We triple time it across the street and connecting parking lot into an alley where we get the drop on four soldiers. They did not last long once we noticed them. Griggs can brag about taking down three of them as he just mows own everything with that beast he carries around.
As we are about to round the corner, Vulture comes over the radio, "Two tangos around the corner. Watch the green car." I stop right before I enter the alley. Looking back at them, the team shrugs, so I pull out a flashbang and pull the pin. It clicks and I chuck it around the corner. On the count of five, the explosive goes off and I go around the bend. I see the two men staggering around, holding their bloody ears. I end their suffering quickly before moving on.
We make it up some stairs to find a five story building with a parking lot brimming with destroyed cars or bullet ridden ones. Wow. We start to take fire from the upper floors, so the three of us roll against one of the many cars to take cover. Gaz gets on the comms as I return fire to the people in the windows, "Vulture One-Six, we are taking heavy fire from a fortified position on the fifth floor!" I hear a whirling sound above. I look up just in time to see a helicopter banking around to let their gunner sweep the building. I will guess that is Vulture.
We wait for it to stop firing and when I check, I see nothing attacking us from the building anymore, so I focus on taking people out that are in the parking lot. As we run towards the building, I see the son lean out the window, almost seeming to taunt us. "Oh my god! Why can't I shoot your dumb ass?!" I scream as I run at the building. Gaz seconds the thought with a battle cry as we run up the stairs. We bulldoze through the floors of the house as we chase after the son. The paper thin walls do nothing to stop our bullets from ripping apart the people on the other side.
We enter a burned room with the roof caved in and I look up to see the man staring down at us. I drop my rifle to hang on my chest and quickly take out my pistol. I discharge five rounds into the roof near his head. "Give up you wanker!" The man of course didn't and sprints away.
"This guy is an idiot!" Griggs states factually. I sigh as I advance forward and find the stairs. At the top, we start taking fire, so we duck behind some stone walls. Vulture sweeps overhead and starts unleashing a hailstorm of lead into the enemy until they are all gone.
I poke my head up to see that everyone is dead or dying from the air support. We cross the floor and up one using some wreckage from whatever messed this place up. At the end of the hall, I see movement, but I hold my fire long enough to see it is the Russians we are allied with. A little warning would have been nice. Just, you know, 'Hey, friendlies in the building!' would have done the job.
Griggs, Gaz and I join in their charge up the staircase until we burst out onto the roof where the son is cornered. "Drop the gun, drop the bloody gun!" Gaz shouts at the man.
"I can put on in his leg sir!" Griggs offers, but like when I offered, Price turns it down as too risky.
The man starts to climb up onto pipes. "Soap, take his weapon and restrain him."
I sigh, "If I get shot, you owe me a drink," I tell him as I pass with my weapon up. As I approach the man, he look like he is about to surrender, but in one swift movement, he puts the pistol to his head and fires.
The man's blood jets out of his skull, following the path of the bullet. It coats the nearby window in gore and brain matter as he falls backwards, dead. His body goes still and the rest of his blood leaks out of the new holes in his head, staining the concrete crimson. "Shit," I mumble as I approach his body. That's not good.
Griggs comments, "Shit. Kid's got some issues." I think it is had some issues now.
Captain walks up beside me as he reports into command. "Baseplate, this is Bravo Six. Zakhaev 's son is dead. We're comin' home."
Gaz worryingly says, "Oh bloody hell, his son was our only lead sir." Oh shit. What do we do now?! I thought we had something to fall back on! Why am I not part of the briefings?!
"Forget it, I know the man. He won't let this go unanswered. Let's go." Price starts to walk off the building. And I follow him as my vision fades to dark, another mission completed.
BOOM! Another chapter. Still haven't done anything with the Anko potter, but I did just finish editing the last chapter like thirty seconds ago. Huzzah for mass writing. (Edit: Huzzah for forgetting about these chapters for two weeks!)Fav and review please! Also spread the word about my little story as the CoD/Harry Potter crossover series does not have too many readers. Understandable as there is not much that can done in the universe. If you are impatient to read more of my work, please check out my other stories (That's right! Shameless advertising!) and see if they're your cup of tea.
