Corinne stared as the evil fairy flew away, laughing as she went "Ten years of winter." she thought "Just another thing to add to our list of problems."
Elina shook her head "I can't believe I did this! We've got to go warn the others!"
"Elina! Wait!" Corinne called "Hold on. Only tell the guardians. We don't want the school panicking."
Elina looked at her shocked "You saw that?"
"Yep." Corinne let out a huff of air "We've got a problem."
Elina flew over to her "What do we do?"
"Just focus. Don't panic either."
Elina sighed "I can't believe I released Laverna!"
"It wasn't your fault." Linden said "She tricked us. And plus, if I hadn't translated for you, you never would have done it."
"It's nobody's fault, okay?" Corinne spoke "No one told you that she had turned into a frog. We've just got to find a way to stop her. To stop all of them."
Linden looked at her confused "All of them?"
"Do they know we overheard them?" Elina whispered.
"No." Corinne answered "But they know I know. And that's fine. If they're all focusing on me then they won't notice the ones making headway. Right?" she glanced over her shoulder "Odette's with Daniel, so she should be fine... I think."
"We'd better go tell the guardians." Elina said "Then get home. See ya, Corinne."
Corinne waved at them then shook her head "Oh boy."
The next day, Corinne was digging through her locker when Drosselmeyer's voice came over the intercom:
"Students. Don't forget the dance coming up in two weeks. Formal occasion so dress accordingly." A breif pause "And Corinne D'artagnon. Come to my office."
Corinne frowned "It's seven-thirty and I'm already going to the office?"
"What did you do?" Renee asked "Break curfew?"
Corinne suddenly groaned "The security cameras! Corinne how could you not think of that!" then she walked down the hall.
"Security cameras?" Her three friends echoed.
Louis watched as Corinne walked to the Principal's office and shook his head.
"Whoa, Louis." Nicholas teased "Staring much?"
"I cannot figure her out." Louis mumbled.
Jeremy chuckled "You're not supposed to. Women are like that."
"It's not that." Louis responded "She's... smart. Really smart."
"You mean for being in detention for half the classes?"
"No. As in, I would love to see her report card."
Aiden's eyebrows rose "My guess, she's what they call a fail."
"She can't be." Louis said "She's made it to her Junior year somehow." he handed one of his notebooks to Jeremy "Does any of this mean anything to you?"
Jeremy stared at the numbers "Yeah. It tells me that you pay too much attention in History."
"Chemistry." Aiden corrected "How are you a senior?"
"I play basketball."
"Yes, Sir?" Corinne said as she stepped into the office.
"Sit down." Drosselmeyer pointed to a chair. As soon as she had taken the seat, he started talking "Treville came to me this morning and said that he'd seen a very interesting thing on the security cameras last night." he tapped a pencil on the desk "A certain blond haired girl letting another blond haired girl into the school." she leaned forward "A blond haired girl that's been missing school for several days now."
"Oh?" Corinne asked innocently.
"Okay, first." Drosselymeyer's tone changed to that of an angry principal "Do you have any idea what you've done? A teenage girl, infiltrating our security!"
"Well, Sir. It's not exactly my fault that a teenage girl could infiltrate the security."
"You're not helping your cause."
"Right."
"But I need to ask you something." The man leaned forward on his desk "A few hours after you left Odette in the library, a swan flew out. What do you know of this?"
"A swan?" Corinne shifted in her seat "Um... Erasmus has a pet?"
"Corinne." Drosselmeyer's eyebrows lowered "I've been getting complaints about you from more than half of our teaching staff. And the lunch lady."
"The lunch lady?"
"Yes." The principal leaned back in his seat "Treville checked the cameras to see if their complaints were legitamate."
"And?"
"As it turns out, they're not." He stared at her "He went back to the day you attacked Rothbart."
"Oh..."
"I wasn't aware his ring did that." he leaned back forward "You know something. I suggest you tell me."
Corinne rubbed her forehead "Sir, I would rather not."
"And why is that?"
"Because..." she shook her head "You'd run. And we need a principal." she stood up "I'm sorry. But believe me. You don't want to know." she headed for the door "Good day, Sir." then she walked out.
Drosselmeyer frowned "She's just like her father."
Corinne sighed as she pulled the door closed behind her.
"Corinne!" Leah called, running up to her "Have you seen my necklace?"
"Necklace?" Corinne thought a second then shook her head "I... didn't even know you wore a necklace."
"I have to find it!" Leah sighed "I can't turn into a mermaid without it!"
"Ask Viveca." Corinne said quickly "She always notices accessories."
"Okay. I will."
Corinne watched as the merprincess walked off "Can school get any more complicated?" just then. Someone grabbed her arm and started pulling her down the hall "I had to ask!" she quicly regained her footing "Annika! What's up?"
"I have to leave school for a while and I need you to cover for me." Annika answered.
"Can't you just get a leave of absence?"
"I don't think Principal Drooselmeyer would believe my story." Annika walked into the library and started scanning the shelves "You know I... snuck out last night. Right?"
Corinne leaned against one of the bookshelves "I believe I remember some mention of the fact."
"Well, while I was skating Wenlock showed up and proposed!"
"He proposed?" Corinne shivered in disghust.
"Yes! And then my parents showed up!" Annika shook her head "And tried to talk him out of it. But..." she sighed "He turned them stone."
"What!?"
"And unless I marry him in three days he'll never turn them back!" she grabbed a book off the shelf "Our only hope is to find the Wand of Light."
Corinne's eyebrows lurched "The who?"
"It's a mythological wand that has amazing power. Even greater than Wenlock's." Annika answered, opening the book "All I need to build it is a Measure of Courage, a Ring of Love, and a Gem of Ice lit by Hope's Eternal Flame."
"Piece of cake." Corinne responded "Only... what's a measure of courage, ring of love and gem of ice?"
"I have no idea. But I'm going to find out." Annika closed the book and stuck it in her bag "Brietta and I are heading to the Forbidden Forest. Try and cover for me."
"Who's Brietta?" Corinne asked slowly.
"Did I forget to tell you?"
"Somehow."
"I have a sister!" Annika laughed softly "Only she's a pegasus."
"Cursed?"
"Yeah."
"It's becoming a common fate." Corinne shook her head "Good luck."
"Thanks, Corinne." Annika smiled then turned around and ran off.
"Wait." Corinne said a second later "What do I tell Aiden?" but she was already gone "Great. Yeah, Aiden. Your girlfriend just went running off to the forbidden forest with her cursed sister to build a mythological wand to defeat a sorcerer who turned her family to stone so she doesn't have to marry him in three days." she shook her head "Putting it that way... Annika's doomed."
