CHAPTER ELEVEN

"It's time to go," Dwight whispered into the other tent. The twins along with Reed, joined Logan, Blaine, Dwight, Finn and Rachel. "Blaine do we have our distraction ready?"

Blaine felt sick, but nodded. "Logan, if I don't make it, get Kurt for me," Blaine said. Logan nodded, and Blaine started off into the cold night.

"The rest of you, follow me," Dwight said, leading the way in the opposite direction. Julian had to take Logan's arm to get him to move.

There was a shout and Kurt sat upright in his chair, looking toward the direction of the sound. Again there was another muffled shout. Kurt stood. The next became clearer. "You call yourselves Nazis?! It's funny that you think killing my brother will make a difference about my actions! Come fix your mistake!"

"Blaine," Kurt whispered. Was he crazy? Kurt moved through the people that were pausing in their fun. He stopped as he spotted Blaine running through the Nazi officers. Blaine paused as he spotted Kurt, but then continued yelling through the Nazi troops. Several began chasing him as he ran to the main entrance.

Kurt knew what he was doing. He was creating a distraction so that the others could get out. Kurt had to help. He looked around, and once he was sure no one was watching, he started in the other direction. Soon he came to several figures that were by a fence.

"Do you need any help?" Kurt asked with a smile.

Dwight looked up with a smile. He nodded moving aside for Kurt to see what he was doing. He had pulled the fence up, blood from his hands dripping along the barb wire. Kurt took the wire, a sharp pain going through his hands, as his blood joined Dwight's. They held up the barb wire high enough for Rachel and Finn to get under it and to the other side. The twins followed, but Reed refused to. Dwight and Kurt could barely hold the fence anymore.

"Reed, come on," Dwight groaned through clenched teeth. "This is doing nothing for my injuries."

"I can't," Reed whispered. "This is where Shane died."

"And it's where you'll die as well if you don't move," Kurt grumbled. "Go."

When Reed didn't move, Logan took his arms, and shoved his head down, and under the fence. Reed came up on the other side, with a dark look. There was a ringing as the fence slipped through Dwight's and Kurt's grips. It slammed into the snow, that was quickly becoming red in the moon light. Logan gave a small yell, his hand going to his leg which was trapped between the fence and the snow bank.

Both Kurt and Dwight scrambled to pull the fence back up, while Julian pulled Logan out of the way. He helped Logan stand, but Logan stumbled, falling against Julian. His pant leg was a dark color and clung to his leg.

"Someone was bound to hear that," Dwight said. "Get out!"

"Give me a moment," Logan mumbled, pulling up his pants leg to see the damage. Julian knelt in the snow to help Logan.

"Dwight, go," Kurt said. "I've got this."

"You sure?"

Kurt nodded, and Dwight slowly released the fence. Kurt struggled to get a firm grip, the pressure sending more pain waves to his brain. His body was telling him to let go, to stop the needles that were literally penetrating his skin, but he stood still... for the most part. His boots were slowly slipping.

Julian helped Logan limp to the fence, but stopped as a whistle blew. Kurt looked up. "Lo-Logan," Kurt gasped. "If you take the fence, I can get you a little more time." Logan nodded and took the metal that Kurt was holding.

"Julian, get out," Logan said, as Kurt released the barb wire. Kurt began racing to the troops that were coming in the direction of the escapees.

"You get out to the cars. Ethan, E-Evan, who ever the hell you are, get the car started," Dwight said. "Julian, come on."

Julian looked up at Logan who nodded. Julian slid under the fence and turned back. Dwight took his arm and pulled him away from the fence.

"Times up," Dwight muttered. A gun shot rang out. Logan closed his eyes as his blood soaked his arm. There was no way he could hold the fence open and get out, and Kurt wasn't there to help him. "Julian, get back here!" Dwight called as Julian raced back to the fence.

Julian reached through the fence and held to the part that Logan was holding to. Logan released the fence and Julian slid forward from the weight of the fence. His chest and face collided with the barb wire , drawing blood. The cool liquid seeped through his shirt and rolled down his face in tear drops.

Logan slid under the fence and Julian released the fence, it slamming back into the snow. Julian helped Logan to his feet and helped him limp through the snow. There was another gun shot, the bullet making the snow fly around Julian's foot.

"Julian," Logan whispered, pulling Julian in front of him. Logan made sure that his back was to the fence and that his body blocked Julian's. "Listen closely to me." It was hard to hear over the open fire that began. Logan hid his pain as bullets filled his back. "I want you to leave."

"Logan," Julian said softly, his hand on Logan's cheek. "Please walk."

Logan shook his head. He closed his eyes, holding his breath as a bullet hit his cut from the fence. His knee gave out and he stumble slightly. "Julian, go. Go now." Logan's head rested against Julian's. "I love you, truly, deeply."

"Don-don't give up," Julian begged tears in his eyes. "Please come with me."

Logan closed his eyes, falling more and more into darkness. He opened his eyes. He quickly kissed Julian, pulling back. He gasped at another bullet. Julian was fully supporting Logan.

"Run," Logan whispered. "Don't look back."

"But-"

"No, Julian. Go now."

Julian nodded and slowly started running to Dwight, who waited. They both disappeared and to Logan's wish, Julian didn't look back, leaving Logan to lie in the snow. By now, the fence had been opened and others were racing forward, heading after the others. Kurt stopped beside Logan, who was breathing shallowly.

"Dumb-ass," Kurt muttered, kneeling down and looking over Logan. Kurt rested a hand on Logan's chest, his other pushing his blood covered, blond hair from his green eyes.

"Do-don't," Logan gasped. "Leave me. Go-go back. Don't get killed."

"Lo-"

"No..." He closed his eyes that were practically shadowed. "Ke-keep Julian safe."

"Absolutely," Kurt nodded. "But you're coming with me." He tried to lift Logan up.

"No. Leave me, please," Logan begged. Kurt stood, but Logan grabbed his boot. "Te-tell..." He took a sharp inhale. "Tell Julian I-I love him. Please."

"As you wish," Kurt muttered, re-kneeling with tears in his eyes.

Logan gave a small smile. "Thank you." He closed his eyes and his smile fell.

Kurt pulled off his uniform jacket and draped it over Logan's pale, mangled body, before standing and turning to go back to the camp.

One solitary figure stumbled from a ditch, holding their chest. They sat on a pile of dirt, looking down into the ditch which held many men and woman, who were all frozen from the winter. The figure's breath climbed through the air as they looked around to decipher where they were. They dragged themselves to their feet and stumbled through the dark until they found a town and a motorcycle.

"Shut him up!" Dwight ordered. "Or I'll kick him out of the car."

"Evan, quiet!" Ethan ordered.

"But I know that he's real!" Evan argued, making Dwight smile.

"Are we seriously back on this again?" Ethan asked.

Dwight looked into the rear view mirror and his smile fell. Both Reed and Julian sat in the back, completely silent, tears rolling down their cheeks. Shane rested against Julian and Julian had his cheek on Reed's head.

"Dwight!" a voice yelled, breaking up Dwight's thoughts. As Dwight came to, he could only see a bright light. He jerked the steering wheel to the right and out of the opposite lane, as well as the oncoming traffic. "Thanks for-"

"Almost killing us," Evan finished.

"I'm sorry," Dwight muttered. "I didn't mean to do that. How about you all get some sleep. It will be an hour or so before we reach the docks."

"With you driving?" the twins laughed in unison. Again Dwight looked in the back of the car. By now, Reed had fallen asleep against Julian, and Julian against Blaine. Blaine was looking out of the window, a blank look on his face. "Blaine?" Dwight asked. "Are you OK? I have some holy water in my bag if-"

"You have holy water?" Evan asked.

"What does it taste like?" Ethan added.

"I've never drank it," Dwight said. "Besides, I went all the way to Italy to get it blessed, and I'm not about to make a trip back. Blaine?" Blaine ignore Dwight. Was he doing the right thing?

"We could see the-"

"Eiffel Tower!" Ethan said excitedly. Evan looked at his brother unsure if Ethan was being serious. "What?"

"The Eiffel Tower? Try the Colosseum," Evan said matter-of-fact-ly.

"You know I get the two mixed up!" Ethan grumbled, folding his arms.

Kurt lied in his bed, staring up at the tent's ceiling. He was meant to wait here for Blaine, but Kurt had been told that he was being moved to Dusseldorf the next morning. Did Blaine know this? Kurt rolled over and then over again, twisting and turning in discomfort. Finally, he sat up, his feet now resting on the cold ground.

Was he really going to Dusseldorf or was it some torture chamber? Kurt's mind began to wander as ideas came to his head of what would happen in a torture chamber. He could be burnt alive, shot, stabbed, locked in a iron maiden... He could have his insides cut out of him, while he was alive. Basically being dissected alive.

Kurt shook his head, clearing his mind of the mental pictures.

The car parked, and everyone stumbled onto the dock. "Let's get you two to bed," Blaine whispered to Reed and Julian, who both had begun crying when they were woken. "Then, I'll take the car and be back in a day or two." He looked up at Dwight, who nodded.

"And We'll meet you in Delfzijl," Dwight said. "I'm positive that you'll get over the fence. It's not all that high. You'll be in the Netherlands, and there they can't touch you."

"Sounds like my best chance," Blaine sighed.

The twins were on the deck of their baby, setting the rigging and everything else.

"I'm so glad I didn't miss you," someone said. Everyone left on the dock whipped around, afraid that they had been caught. A person stood in the shadows. They stepped forward, and everyone forgot how to breathe.

"Shane?" Reed asked disbelievingly. Reed broke into a sprint to the blood matted man, who looked sick from the loss of the red, sticky stuff that liked to stay inside of your body. Reed all but jumped on Shane, causing him to stumble back and into some creates. Reed kissed Shane, long and hard. Reed pulled back, breathing deeply. "Shane?" Tears were once again pouring down Reed's face.

"Shh," Shane whispered, holding Reed in a tight hug. "Baby, I'm here. Nothing can hurt you now." Reed sobbed into Shane's chest. Shane didn't mind holding Reed, it was just his legs were extremely weak, and they gave out under him.

Blaine stared as his brother slid to the dock. Blaine couldn't bring himself to move. He just didn't want this to all be a dream, and to wake to have Shane dead. Besides, Blaine had killed his brother himself. How was Shane alive?

Reed helped Shane stand with Dwight's help, when Dwight had run over. They led Shane onto the ship and Julian stepped over to Blaine.

"Do you still think that there's a chance that Logan's alive?" Julian asked.

"I just don't know," Blaine replied. "I really don't know." Blaine turned and gave a soft smile. "But what he did for you is something that I wish I could do for Kurt..." There were both quiet. "Go, get some rest. You need it." Julian nodded and Blaine followed him onto the boat.

Blaine knocked on the door to what was Shane's cabin. After a moment, the door opened. Shane wore a slight smile, and quickly hugged Blaine. Blaine stood, shocked. He didn't know how to react. He was still trying to grasp the fact that Shane was still alive.

"I'm sorry," Shane whispered. "I couldn't let him pick you. I couldn't."

"How?" Blaine finally spurted out.

Shane pulled his brother into his room, where Reed was asleep in the bed. "To tell you the truth, I remember seeing Kurt begging for help, and that's about all. I woke, I guess, in a ditch, in extreme pain."

"I-I killed you," Blaine said, looking over Shane. "I stabbed you with the knife."

"Really?" Shane asked with a smile. He went and lied back on the bed, when his blood began to rush, and turn everything black. "I don't remember that. I also don't feel any pain. I mean, my chest was sore, and I have all these wounds-"

"That will get infected," Blaine pointed out.

Shane laughed. "Yes, but my point is, I don't feel like I was just killed. I feel like nothing ever happened to me."

"You're either in shock or have gone completely mental."

"I'm sure I'll wake up feeling it in the morning. But as for right now, all I fell is weak. I just can't stand for very long, is all," Shane explained.

"Can I use the bike?" Blaine asked after a moment.

"I don't care. It's not mine."

Blaine walked over to the bed and hugged Shane. He hugged Shane as tightly as he could, without hurting Shane. Shane tried to pull away, but when Blaine didn't, he returned the hug again. Blaine pulled out of the hug, and patted Shane's shoulder.

"What was that for?" Shane asked.

"One, you're alive," Blaine whispered. "Two, in case I don't come back."

"Why wouldn't you come back?" Shane asked, sitting up. A hand went to his head and he lied back down. "You're planning on coming back, though, right?"

"I'll defiantly try."

Kurt sat at a table with a piece of paper and a pen. He stared at the paper for a moment, then began writing.

Julian,

Please know that this is one of the hardest things for me to write to you. I'm sorry to say that Logan-

Kurt stopped writing for a moment, trying to see how he could word this. Tears came to his eyes and slowly started to blur the page, as well as the ink on the paper.

My heart is shattered, as is yours, I'm sure. I don't want to tell you of what they did with Logan's body, but I feel that you have to know. I watched them as they laughed at his misfortune, and then he was thrown mercilessly into a ditch to be unmarked with all the others. Please know that I never wish to send this letter to you, but I feel like you desperately need to know. I also want you to know that I understand what you're going through.

I went down into the ditch after all the others left and I pulled him out, burying him. I also made sure that he was marked by carving into the tree his name. It was the most I could do for what time that I had. I'm sorry I couldn't do more. Logan also made me promise to tell you that he loves you more than anything in this world.

I hope to see you soon.

Kurt

Kurt looked up at his name. He was going to be moved and by now they were ready to go and just waiting for Kurt. He stood and shoved the letter into his pocket, but not before sliding a picture of Logan into the envelope from Logan's wallet that Kurt had found.

Kurt left the room and followed out to a car, which he hesitantly got into.

"What time did he leave?" Shane asked. The twins looked at each other then back to Shane. "Well?"

"He left after he said goodnight to you," Evan answered.

"He told us to tell you to rest and to get better," Ethan continued.

"I agree," Reed added as he stood from the bed, where Shane was resting, too weak to move. "Don't worry about it."

"I feel sea sick," Shane muttered.

Evan's eyes grew wide and he raced from the room. Ethan laughed, realizing that his brother was the one who drove the ship and that there wasn't anyone steering. "Reed, watch him, will you?" Ethan left the room.

"Go back to sleep," Reed said. "That's the best thing for you at the moment."

"Blaine told me that he wasn't coming back," Shane muttered. "He said goodbye last night."

"Shane..." Reed sat back down, running his hand through Shane's black curls. "I'm sure that's not what he meant."

"You could see it in his eyes, Reed. He's not coming back."

"Stop thinking like that. He will come back and then-"

"Then what?!" Shane demanded. "There's going to be nothing for us! Why can't you see that?!"

"Shane, calm down, you'll hurt yourself," Reed whispered softly. "Just get some sleep. It will be better for all of us if you do."

Shane only nodded. He couldn't think of anything except for Blaine. His brother, the one who had looked out for him during their childhood and even now. He had taken care of Shane. It was all bittersweet.

"But-"

"Shane, really," Reed sighed. "Please don't. Just rest. I'm sure that you'll see Blaine again."

"Can you promise me that?"

Reed stayed silent.
