….Ravenclaw! The hall burst into applause, the loudest being the Ravenclaw table. Artemis pulled off the hat and handed it to Professor Longbottom as she made her way over to her house's table. She was greeted by some of the students as she sat down, but before she could say much of anything to her new house mates the next first year was called up which caused Artemis to spin her head around.
"Black, Charles"
He never told me his last name. Artemis thought as she watched Charles walk up to the stool. The hat was placed on his head and after a few moments the brim opened up and shouted Slytherin! As Charles made his way to the applauding Slytherin table he noticed Artemis staring at him and smiled. Artemis smiled back and made a mental note to try and talk to him later. The sorting continued as the next few names were called.
"Bones, Andrew"
Became a Hufflepuff while,
"Davidson, Amanda"
Was the first new Gryffindor, a few more names were called before a name was called that Artemis recognized.
"Flint, Derek"
Artemis watched as Derek walked up to the stool as she remembered that Kingsley had mentioned Derek's dad Marcus when some Death Eaters were brought in for questioning a few years back. Derek sat down and the hat was placed on his head. Artemis expected the hat to instantly shout Slytherin but instead Derek sat there under the hat for a few minutes before the brim of the hat opened up and shouted, Ravenclaw! Artemis was shocked as Derek made his way over to the now applauding Ravenclaw table and began to clap out of politeness. Derek sat down a few spots away from Artemis as she turned her focus back to the sorting. After a few more names Teddy was called.
"Lupin, Theodore"
Teddy walked forward looking slightly nervous as he sat upon the stool, the hat was placed on his head and soon he lost his nervousness. Teddy's sorting seemed to go quickly and soon the brim of the hat opened and shouted, Gryffindor! Teddy took off the hat beaming and hurried over to the cheering Gryffindor and sat next to Amanda Davidson. The sorting continued with Sarah Newton becoming a Hufflepuff. The next first years sorted were pair of twins Katie and Alexandra Richardson. Katie was sorted into Slytherin while her sister was sorted into Ravenclaw. After this the next person to be called was Erik.
"Roberts, Erik"
Erik walked up to the stool looking very nervous once again. The hat was dropped over his head and fell below his eyes. His sorting seemed to take more than Derek's did and by the time the hat opened its brim it had been almost five minutes, Gryffindor! Erik seemed to be in shock, he didn't get up from the stool right away and Professor Longbottom had to take the hat off of his head before Erik got up from the stool. He slowly made his way over to the cheering Gryffindor table and sat down next to Teddy who thumped him on the back. Artemis smiled, she was glad Erik was in a house with one of his friends, she knew how nervous he was. Five more students were sorted before Julia was called.
"Smith, Julia"
Julia walked up to the stool and sat down in confidence. They had didn't remain on her head for long before the brim opened and shouted, Gryffindor! Artemis watched as Julia went over to the Gryffindor table smiling, she was slightly disappointed that Julia wasn't in Ravenclaw with her. Lindsey Smith (no relation to Julia) was called next and was sorted into Ravenclaw joining Artemis and Alexandra at the table. The next student, Ben Simmons, was also sorted into Ravenclaw. Finally in was Alex's turn to be sorted.
"Wells, Alex"
Alex strolled up to the hat being the last student to be sorted. Sitting down on the stool the hat was placed on his head and it decided his house rather quickly, Slytherin! Artemis was slightly shocked but Alex didn't as he strolled over to the Slytherin table and sat next to Charles.
With that the sorting was done and Professor Longbottom removed the stool and hat. Headmistress McGonagall stood up at the head table and welcomes the school, reminding everyone that the Forbidden Forest was still forbidden and that some new Weasleys' Wizarding Wheezes products had been added to the list Filch had of these that are forbidden in the castle. Artemis smiled at this, she bet that George was very proud that his products were considered forbidden. As McGonagall finished her speech the tables were filled with the food the house elves had prepared.
As they began to eat Artemis started up a conversation with Alexandra and Lindsey. It turned out that Alexandra was from a pureblood and she had just recently moved back to England after living in America for a few years.
"What was it like in America?" asked Lindsey
"Well the wizarding communities are hidden within the muggle ones so there are all kinds of enchantments and hidden passages to get to places. It's really nice though, the wizarding world is more up to date though than her in England, robes aren't that popular except for formal occasions, every wizard travels by magical cars we don't even have a floo network. Other than that it's not that different, everyone is still Quidditch obsessed so I guess that is universal." said Alexandra
"That's pretty cool. My mom is a pure blood witch and my dad is a muggle. My dad actually took the news very well when my mom told him she was a witch. They're still working on telling my dad's parents though so it makes visits kind of weird, especially when my younger sister and I show signs of accidental magic. My mom would have to stay one step ahead of us to prevent our grandparents from noticing anything." said Lindsey
"Sounds interesting, I grew up in Rowena's Glen with my god father, I just met my Grandmother and twin brother this last summer." said Artemis
"O, it you brother that Charles guy who is in Slytherin?" asked Alexandra
"No, it's Teddy Lupin who is in Gryffindor. My mom left me with a different last name when she gave me to Kingsley before her and my dad died." said Artemis
"O, so he's the kid with the turquoise hair?" asked Lindsey
"Yup, we're both metamorphmagus, I like to keep my hair a dark purple a lot of the time. I don't like to have brightly colored hair like he does." said Artemis
All of a sudden a voice joined into their conversation from down the table.
"You're related to that weird haired freak?" said the voice of Derek Flint
Artemis's hair began to redden a bit at the roots as she turned to face Derek.
"Don't you call my brother a freak." said Artemis appearing to growl slightly
"Right, why would anyone want to have their hair like that? It's just plain weird." said Derek
"Well he likes it so leave him alone and mind your own business." declared Artemis
Artemis turned her back to Derek who rolled his eyes at her while muttering under his breath. The three friends began talking again as dessert appeared on the tables.
"Yes! They have lemon pudding!" exclaimed Artemis as she placed lemon pudding on her plate
"What?" said both Lindsey and Alexandra
"Lemon pudding it's so good!" said Artemis
"Alright then, I prefer apple pie more. It's very popular in America." said Alexandra as she place a piece of apple pie on her plate
Lindsey just shook her head at her two new friends as she at her own dessert of treacle tart. Soon desert was over and Headmistress McGonagall stood up and dismissed the students to head to their dormitories. There was a loud scrapping as benches were slid back as the students stood up. Artemis, Alexandra, Lindsey and the rest the first years followed the prefects up to the Ravenclaw Common Room. Arriving at the top of Ravenclaw Tower the prefect knocked on the bronze eagle door knocker. All of a sudden a voice spoke out of the door knocker.
Answer me this: What Lives without a body, hears without ears, speaks without a mouth, to which the air alone gives birth
The prefect turned to the first years.
"To enter our common room you must answer a riddle correctly. If you get it wrong then you'll have to wait for the next person to come along and try. This way you'll be able to learn." The prefect explained
After addressing them the prefect turned back to the door knocker and answered its riddle.
"The answer is an echo."

The door opened and the first years entered the common room. Glancing around Artemis fell in love with it, the walls were covered in blue and bronze silks, the carpet was a rich midnight blue and the ceiling had silver stars in it. There were plush blue chairs and couches scattered around with polished wooden table for homework, lining the walls were bookcases full of books just waiting to be read. They headed up the stairs to the left, and found the room marked with a one over the door. Walking into the dorm they were greeted to five four poster beds in a circle around the room all with their own dresser, night stand and bookcase. The other two girls in their year were already putting their stuff away and introduced themselves as Molly Goldstein and Kelly Penny. After putting away her things from her trunk and changing into her pajamas, Artemis climbed into her four poster bed and pulled the curtain around her bed lying down she drifted into a peaceful sleep glad to finally be at Hogwarts and looking forward to what would come next.
