So, I don't know where I'm going with this. What should happen? What new characters should I introduce? I have no idea. This might be the last chapter I post for a while. I'm going to basically rewrite the story with some input and add some stuff I left out before. Sorry for leaving you (again). Message me for requests; please! They really do help, and that's something I need a lot of. Read!
The first thing I noticed was the big red mark on her arm. That wasn't good, but we'll talk about that later. Next was the fact that there was fear in her eyes, mixed with only the slightest bit of irritation and curiosity. She noticed the aura thing too apparently. "Hey mom." I stated casually, trying to silently tell her that I needed her to act cool. I had just kind of threatened his life five minutes ago.
"Meloni, who are these people? WHAT are these people? I thought you said they were demigods!" she whisper/shouted before they could come over, a frantic look on her face. I've never seen her like this. I mean, yeah, she's been over protective to the point of suffocation, but she's was one step away from a meltdown. "Mom they're-"I stopped as they walked up. "Mom, this is Derek, Maia and Ben, umm, this is my mom."
They each waved at the sound of their name. Maia cocked her head to the side, like she had just thought of something. "Does my mommy know you?" At this Derek squinted, making him look like a serious nerd without his glasses on. My mom took this moment to cock her head to the side, "That depends. Who's your mommy?"
"My mommy is…" she paused, thinking. "…a really smart lady with princess hair, and really pretty eyes," she decided on. Funny, that almost sounded like one of my dad's friends, Annabeth, I think. Oh well. Derek was obviously irked by his sister's willingness to release these details to a complete stranger, but Maia seemed unfazed. I looked at mom, wondering if she was thinking the same thing. She had a brew of curiosity and confusion. "Are her eyes grey?"
At this point Derek was taken aback, while Ben looked seriously bored, as if all this should be obvious. Maia just nodded eagerly, like a teacher who was watching a student who's been having difficulties and is starting to get it. Mom glanced around like she didn't want to talk about who their mother was here. "How about we go inside? I'm sure we can talk in there."
Just like that we all shuffled into the house, her being the last one so she could close the door. We sat down at the table, and I started to make food again (don't judge, I am a growing teenager and we had just played outside). Mom asked for a sandwich, Ben didn't but I could tell he wanted one and both Maia and Derek refused food. Well then, time to make more grilled cheese.
After the food was made I carried two plates (with the sandwiches) and a small bag of chips into the living room, where I found Derek and mom in a deep conversation and Ben and Maia playing some sort of game with their hands. I sat a plate and the chips down next to Ben, who smiled and whispered a shy 'thank you', and then headed over to mom.
I heard bits of their conversation, and for some reason they were speaking in hushed tones. After the "Now I get the 'It's complicated.'" I made my entrance to actually join the conversation. They stopped talking as soon as I was within a yard of them. Way to not be suspicious in your currently strained relationship with your daughter. I held up the sandwich as an offering, trying my best not to be too irritated.
Both of them looked a lot more relaxed as my mother sat down to start eating. I wanted to talk to him, but I didn't really want her to be present. Hmm, guess I'll just have to wait. Ok, this was getting really awkward. Umm, shit. What is there to talk about? "So, do you know where the moving truck is?"
She continued to chew, like she was contemplating something. More secrets? Seriously? After what seemed like forever she swallowed, but was still taking her time. I think Derek took the hint and went to go and occupy the other two. My eyes followed him as he sat down, wondering if he would eavesdrop like I did. She sounded exhausted as she explained, "Something came up and they're still a few hours away. They should be here a little before dinner."
"What about Dad? How far away is he?" I asked, hearing my voice make the slightest waver at the word 'dad'. I'll have to work on that. She looked up at me then, straight in the eye. "He's on his way too, should be here just before the movers. He had to make a pit stop in Tennessee."
"Tennessee?" That's weird; if I remembered correctly (and I did) Tennessee wasn't on the way to California when you're coming from Florida. I guess I'll have to look into that. "Yeah, he said he's sorry but he had some stuff to do in Nashville, apparently Chiron sent him."
That's even weirder. Athena doesn't like my dad, at all. When they were all together on a quest I guess he made to many passes at one of her daughters or something (her favorite if you ask me). Why she send him on some little mini-quest? I the wonderful epiphany that I should respond, you know with that wonderful sentence of "Oh, ok."
She gave a small, satisfied smile and then continued eating. I left to grab my sketch book from my room (when absolutely bored out of your mind, draw). Taking it out, I placed the pencil on the page and then started. I drew lines, probably hundreds of them, not even focusing on what I was sketching. I thought about all possibilities for anything that came to my mind.
Dozens of hundreds of thoughts swam and swirled through my head like some sort of synchronized swimming routine. Going to school, my real father, my mother's huge red mark, my mortalness- the red MARK! What happened? I jumped off my bed and sprinted to the living room. Skidding to a stop, I took a deep breath before walking through the entryway.
As I walked through I had the severe need to face palm myself. "Why" you ask? Because I completely forgot that I had guests; that's why. Entering the living room I could see Maia sitting in the same position as before, but Derek was sitting with her instead of Ben, who was talking animatedly to my mom about Athena knows what.
She looked up as soon as I entered, her eyes looking me up and down as if trying to predict was I was going to do before I did. I'd just decided to sit decided to sit when she stood up and I got a good look at her arm. Of course, the mark was gone.
There it is, and I still don't know what to do with it. Have fun! Read glorious fanfics! The Iris Network is amazing! Thanks!
