Edward POV

My leg bounced impatiently as the plane moved infuriatingly slow. Alice has long since given up trying to stop it and had closed her eyes against my nervous behaviour, instead focusing on trying to find Bella with her Sight. So far, she had only seen vague images, such as a flash of pure blond hair, red eyes and dark cloaks. I could feel her helplessness radiating from her thoughts, and every so often she sent me a sharp jab of loud angry thoughts, making me winced in pain. Despite my usual reticence of looking into other people's minds, I tried to immerse myself in the sleepy thoughts and dreams of the other passengers, attempting to distract myself from my actions. It was unbelievable to think that not three days ago, my life had been the best it had been since I had been turned. I had felt whole. But still I managed to screw it up. Dark thoughts began to flit through my mind, and I allowed them to. Somewhere in my mind, I knew I should stop, but it felt so good to give in to my base vampiric instincts. The burn in my throat was becoming stronger, and my eyes darkened to the deepest black. I allowed the anger to fill me, of the injustice that living (or un-living) with the tempting lure of Bella's blood and not having even tasted a single drop… untilthe end.
Alice gasped suddenly, drawing a few glances from the other nearby passengers. Her hand clamped down around my wrist on the armrest, on which my hands had formed tight fists, and my shoulders had hunched forward.
"Edward, no. Think of the consequences of doing this. Think of Bella" Her urgent eyes tried in vain to find any hint of the old Edward, to make me understand what I was choosing. The weak Edward, whispered a voice in my head. I could feel her trying to send me images of what she has glimpsed, of the horrors and pain and heartache which would result in my choosing this path. But it was too late. I had heard rumours of vampires turning rouge, from allowing a major event to destroy all that was left of the soul and leaving only the monster behind. Thinking back, I had felt the change in me as soon as the first sweet drop of Bella's lifeblood had burst on my tongue. I didn't understand how I hadn't noticed sooner. I felt lighter, freer. Thirsty. Edward was gone. And the Vampire had taken over.
The plane was turning, ready to land. Vaguely I noticed how the overwhelming noise I usually heard from others' minds was gone. My mind was once again truly my own. And there was only one word circling around my head. Blood. And I was surrounded by pathetic humans. By the time the last ones realised what was happening, it would be too late.
I grinned at Alice.
"Too late my dear. It is done."
My voice no longer sounded my own. It was low and harsh, sounding as though the words had ripped themselves out of my burning throat. The scent of her fear hung heavy in the stagnant air as the plane touched down with a rough thud. I could sense the humans shuffling nervously, having realised that something was wrong. I wouldn't bother with them. No. I had a much better prize waiting for me at the Volterra Castle.
I turned my head as the exit doors were pushed open, and in a flash Alice was gone. Smiling, I thought of how that was one more hunt I would enjoy undertaking.
