Chapter Eleven: An Outsiders Perspective
A/N: Whoaaaa FF.N crapped out and wouldn't let anyone sign in so how fortunate that I finished this when it did that.
In all her 8 years of knowing Mephiles, and knowing the Circus, Rouge had never seen the ringmaster flip out this much, over such a petty little thing too. "He'll turn up, darling." She said, turning back to the mirror and patting her cheeks with her rouge brush. "No need to chuck a little hissy fit." Out of the corner of her eye she watched the older male storm through her room, his normally pale lavender muzzle turning a magenta colour due to his flushed anger.
"He left yesterday morning and he still hasn't come back." Mephiles hissed, tugging at his bowtie rather aggressively, trying to make it dead straight, unlike himself. The both of them were completely dressed up in their circus attire, prepared for their show at the fair, though Mephiles looked a little ragged, whether it was from his lack of sex or lack of sleep, Rouge was willing to bet both.
She let out an exhausted sigh, standing up and fiddling with her corset before making her way over to him, grabbing his shoulder. Boy, he was pathetic. "Well you kinda did violently rape him you know, maybe he needs a little time away from his master's never-ending libido." She chuckled softly at the look that was shot her way by the male, giving him a victorious one back. "I know, I know. You give him lots of cuddle-snuggles too." She smiled, before moving back to the vanity to finish off her lipstick.
The violet hedgehog grumbled, stopping in front of the full length mirror, scowling at his rather dashing reflection in perhaps, disgust? "I know, that's why I let him go for that day, but it's his duty as my aide to come and assist me today and he has not come back into the home, let alone to by bedside with my breakfast." Rouge raised a brow at her partner's words, she hadn't realised exactly how much Mephiles relied on Shadow, and how much the younger hedgehog was doting on him. Mephiles was a full decade his senior without a doubt he could deal just fine without him, but for the six months that Mephiles has had Shadow as his aide, he's grown too used to the treatment he was receiving. It was really showing on his face, he was actually looking his age for once.
"You seriously need to get your own independence back, Mephi. I get it you're, 'In Love'−" She made sure to gesture quotation marks around her words, making them heavy and exaggerated. "−with him, but that doesn't mean you have to rely so much on him, and have him around you every second of the day." Rouge sighed and looked over her shoulder at the distressed male, he really annoyed her sometimes, and he let his ego get in the way of too many things. Well, it was either his ego or he truly had no idea how to express affection, or have no idea how to handle getting attached to someone. She was learning new things about him every day.
"I have my own independence!" The violet male hissed, shaking his head at his burlesque companion. "I merely just desire my darling Shadow, you wouldn't understand. You've never been in love like I have." He said, giving her a confident smirk as he smoothed out his jacket.
"You're right about that," She muttered, putting on some more mascara. "I've never seen love through the eyes of a psychopath." Mephiles grunted, narrowing his eyes quite sharply. "For the last time, Sociopaths and psychopaths are not the same thing!" He growled, about to say something else, or perhaps hit the ivory bat, but someone opened the door and interrupted them. Coming in without knocking is one of Mephiles' pet peeves.
"How dare you- Shadow?!" Rouge turned around to see Mephiles with his arms clasped around the tiny black form, kissing over his eyes. "My adoring love, where have you been?!" He asked the younger hedgehog, pulling him into a rather passionate kiss before he could answer, Rouge shiver as she could practically see his tongue invading the poor boys mouth.
Shadow finally struggled out of the others grip and sighed heavily, letting the other still hold his hands, notably feeling his desperation. "I was out running errands all day, and I had to train Sonic all night, you know our first show is only a week away." He seemed to drift off, his eyes going down to Mephiles chest and coat, taking in the sight of him being in his ringmasters costume for the first time in five months. "You're all dressed up… for the magic show I presume?"
Mephiles nodded in response and gave his aide another heavily passionate kiss. "We'll have to head down in an hour or so." He grinned, him and his ivory companion both noticing how flustered he was getting over seeing his master in such attire. Maybe this little session will bring the life back into his eyes...and his features, chaos that man looked old right now.
Rouge grinned as she noticed the blush forming on Shadows muzzle and the lust swirling around in Mephiles' eyes; she knew when she wasn't needed. She stood up and pat both men on their backs. "Alright boys, go nuts. Just don't be too loud or mess yourselves up, we've got a show to do, later." She gave them one last smirk before exiting Mephiles rooms, making sure to lock the doors behind her. She could hear the moans already.
Chuckling softly to herself, the burlesque started to walk down the hall, off to have the brunch she missed out on. Good thing that little pink thing was so receptive towards her, she could make her a good fruity meal.
It's funny, though…She never would've thought the other male would find himself in a mere book merchant. Sure, Shadow had a personality that could challenge Mephiles' no doubt, but the ever loving ringmaster had started to seem like someone with no sexual or romantic interest whatsoever. He showed little to no interest in boys, and he certainly had no interest in girls. The man had walked in on her changing one time and the bat ended up finding her boss trying to wash his eyes out with soap. The thought still made her laugh quietly to herself.
She had her suspicions about him, but naturally she just assumed his asexual and aromatic nature. Shadow… he was an odd case. While they were getting ready, Mephiles poured his heart out to her in the form of an angry rant, bringing up his past violations against Shadows health and wellbeing, and expressing that putting the onyx hedgehog in such a predicament was his guilty pleasure, but he was truly sorry for the harm he'd caused. Rouge meanwhile was still ponding why he put Shadow in a dress or why he did him in an open cart. Then again, she didn't fully understand the male before all this, so she had no hope of placing the pieces together now.
What puzzled her more, however, was how receptive and accepting Shadow seemed to be of the actions after. She'd heard of people who get off to pain, but Mephiles had done some mean things… Plus, Shadow never seemed to be that type. Shadow still seemed to treat Mephiles as a normal boss for the longest time, and now she was in on their relations, he seemed to be happy that the other was giving him such attention… She figured Shadow must've lacked a loving figure in his life and dealt with previous abuse. I guess it was nice for him to now have love, but Meph could sure cut down on the abuse…like, a lot.
Her clicking heels finally found the open concept dining room, the light from the large French windows pouring into the room where the skippers plus a few others were already sitting down eating their brunch. Amy Rose did notice the bat's arrival, as did the seamstresses daughter, and they both stood up. "Bonjour mademoiselle Rouge!" Amy called, waving her over, the small rabbit next her echoing. "Bonjour mademoiselle!"
Rouge smirked and sat down next to them, getting her own plate and dishing out her own set of fruit salad and stuffing her croissant with it. "You look de toute beauté mademoiselle." Amy added, smiling widely at her. Rouge smiled back to her and gave her a nod. "Thank you, and keep that up. Soon you'll be fluent in French." She stated, making the tourmaline hedgehog squeal in glee. The smaller golden fox beside her chuckled nervously as she jumped up and down, shuffling over trying to get away from the overbearing tween. The hedgehogs over active cheering was soon echoed by a young bee and a raccoon that sat on the other side of her, seemingly happy that they could spout a few French words like they were fluent. The fox, the rabbit, the hedgehog, the raccoon and the bee all together made up what people called "The Skippers" which meant that they were the children of the circus, the eldest being 12. They were all trainees, soon to become performers and stage hands of the best kind.
Rouge really didn't particularly like hanging around with the children too often, but seeing their faces every once in a while and getting a good meal out of it was something that she looked forward to. She thanked the cooks and sat up, dumping her plate into the sink, before heading off to admire her jewels when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around, topaz eyes blinking as she was faced with an acrobat that she didn't know too well, she remembered her face, though. She was a grey wolf with a long snout and soft, yet slightly annoyed aquamarine eyes, a long braid of ebony hair that spiked up, a single white streak travelling down it. Rouge turned up her nose at the woman, placing her hands on her hips, "What is it? I'm on a rather busy schedule, make it quick." Of course, Rouge was anything but busy, but the lupine looked annoyed, and she had a lot more muscles than the ivory one did.
The wolf rolled her eyes and grabbed Rouges arm, tugging her over to the empty living room. "Hey what are you-!" The lupine cut her off with a harsh shush, turning over to the ivory bat and letting out a low growl. "Shadow went missing from his quarters yesterday, correct?" She hissed, slamming her fist down on her own open hand.
Rouge blinked rather confused, she folded her hands and shifted her weight onto one leg, looking at the other female suspiciously. "…Yes, that's correct. Why do you ask?" She huffed, scanning the woman's face for any clues.
"I know where he went." She stated, giving the burlesque bat a serious look. "He went to the festival, more specifically, with Sonic. They kept it very hush hush, so I think you'd be able to apply context to why exactly it was so secretive."
Rouge paused for a second, blinking her shadowed lids in confusion. Of course she had a hunch Shadow was lying, and just legged it for a day to get away from Mephiles, instead of doing 'errands' like he insisted, but she never would've guessed he spent the day with Sonic… and wasn't it a new moon yesterday? Shadow didn't come back to late morning. Topaz eyes widened as the dots connected in her head and she gave look a rather stunned look. Shadow and Sonic weren't…That close, were they? She was under the assumption they were just friends!
Rouge swallowed and let out a sigh, before confidently placing her hands on her hips and giving the lupine a nod. "Yes, I'm aware of Shadow's endeavours, I believe he'd do such a thing because of his master's overbearing hold on him. Mephiles tends to push his aide's to their very limits; I can imagine why he'd want to get away." She scoffed topaz eyes somewhat hardening in defence. "But thank you for telling me where he was, Miss..?"
"Aiolfi, Lupe Aiolfi." The wolf replied, more focused on the bats expression, as if it obviously gave something away, as the lupine lent back and folded her arms, "That's what I thought…" She mumbled to herself, before waving the ivory bat. "That's all I needed Miss Lebeau, thank you." Lupe said, before turning away and making her leave.
Rouge too was about to make her way back upstairs when she heard Lupe mutter something, her hyper sensitive bat ears picking up the lost words. "Watch him… He's a trouble maker." The ivory bat seemed confused by her words, but she decided to think nothing of it, heading back to her room before she could make a fuss over it. She really didn't expect Shadow to have something on with his werewolf pet, but then again, Sonic did seem a little more than friendly towards him and Shadow had just escaped Mephiles' drunken clutches, maybe they were just caught at a bad time?
She took a deep breath as she approached her room, across from Mephiles'. She could hear many unsavoury noises coming from behind the door, squeaking and squealing, grunts and groans, mewls and moans, not to mention the shaking of the bed and Mephiles' own rather disturbing words. She'd really wish the man would stop calling Shadow "Pet", it sent shivers down her spine, and not good ones either. Often the way he said it was dripped in lust and desire, sadism lingering in his tone, like a paedophile talking to a young child who was all alone… It creeped her out beyond belief and she'd been hearing it a lot more since she was let in on their dirty little secret.
She entered her cave-like room and slammed the door behind her, hands shivering as she locked the door.
Chaos forbid Mephiles ever find out what Shadow had done the previous night.

Patient wasn't exactly a word you'd use to describe Silver's waiting skills. The ivory hedgehog paced back and forth, agitated as he awaited his best friend's return. His metallic boots kicked up dust as he walked around the werehogs den, arms neatly folded behind his back as he did so. He'd woken up this morning expecting Sonic and his date to be back early, avoiding looking too suspicious but it was late morning and everyone was up and working. It was going to be much harder to sneak in. Silver grunted, looking over at the door and sitting down on a barrel of hay. If Mephiles found out what they were doing than he'd surely put a stop to it, he hated canoodling and dates between show class when there was things to do, especially when their first performance was in little over a week. Silver didn't think Mephiles would let Shadow date period, considering it would probably serve as a distraction from his endless duties.
His ears finally perked when he heard shuffling in, half expecting it to be his sister wondering where he was, but a grin came onto his face when a head of cobalt quills peaked around the corner and Sonic finally came through. "Ey buddy!" He called, a dopey grin plastered on his face, giving is ivory companion a friendly hug. "You miss me?"
Silver stood up and smirked back, "I see you're back later than planned." The younger one said, raising a brow as the azure one sat down.
"Yeeeess." Sonic stated, his grin growing into a slightly perverse one, his hand coming up to scratch the back of his scalp. "We had a really late night, sorry." A nervous chuckle came from his muzzle as he tried avoid eye contact with the other. Silver couldn't help but grin, giving the azure hedgehog a playful punch.
"I take that it went well then." Silver stated, his own cheeky grin making itself known as he watched the others nervous body language. Sonic nodded and gave a quite snicker. "Better than well, I'd assume. I just hope Mephiles doesn't get too suspicious of where he's been." The azure hedgehog shrugged and folded his arms, looking down at his shoes, "This shouldn't affect how the werehog views him, should it? I mean, we have our first show soon and I don't want him to randomly start humping him."
Silver honestly couldn't help but snicker at Sonic's words, imagining the sight itself. "You don't give the werehog enough credit, Sonic. Seriously, he's kept it in his pants up until this point I doubt he'll just start humping Shadow out in public now." He rolled his amber eyes and stood up, stretching his arms before turning back to Sonic. "So what exactly did you two love birds do~?"
Sonic blinked in an absent minded manner, letting out a light chuckle. "Believe it or not, nothing much, actually. We just went out and had dinner, played some fair games…" He paused, before mussing around in the basket he brought back, carefully pulling out a gorgeous, lanky charcoal furred bear, and the sheer beauty of the stuffed animal made Silver's eyes widened. "And Shadow won me this." Sonic lowered the bear and gave another nervous chuckle, "I won him a bear too, but it's really pathetic."
Silver gently took the bear into his hands and grinned softly as his eyes dusted over it. "It is a really beautiful bear; hardly believe it's a mere carnival prize." He chuckled and handed it back to Sonic, noticing his attachment to it. He paused for a second, watching Sonic stare at the bear and hold it close, a question popping into his head, "Hey, you two are now together, together, right?"
Sonic seemingly flinched at the question, his grip on the bear he tightening as he inwardly considered his next words, Silver watching his somewhat nervous movements with interest. "I'm not sure," the azure hedgehog stated, rubbing the fuzzy chest of the ebony bear, his eyes haze as a gentle smile graced his fawn lips. "But it seems like it. He actually seemed to want me, perhaps even more than I wanted him." He let out a content sigh and rested the bear in his lap, looking at the large, open door of the den. "I think it safe to say we are."
A small grin formed Silver's muzzle as he heard these words, rather happy to finally see Sonic with a genuine, full stretched smile on his face. He was happy that Sonic was happy, really. Ever since Scourge snagged that raging wild beast and chained him up next to the feral lion cage 3 years ago, Silver had not seen the azure hedgehog that happy. Sure, the hedgehog would often enjoy being around his new-found friends and little brother, but things just never seemed to go the right way for Sonic enough for him to be truly happy and fulfilled. It actually was quite amusing to him that a mere book merchants assistant could make this azure werewolf so happy, made him feel lucky enough to be fulfilled. Black Shadow and Olgilvie "Sonic" Amalberti were quite an odd pair.
"Alrightie," The ivory one said, jumping off the hay barrel and giving his fingers a stretch. "As much as I want to stay here and get all the juice on what happened, we both have jobs to do, and just because everyone covered for you yesterday, doesn't mean they'll do it again today." He clapped his hands. "So get to work."
The azure hedgehog snorted and got off the barrel, waving the other off. "Alright, alright I'm goin' don't get your tail in a twist." He snickered quietly and folded his arms behind his head, casually strolling out of the den to attend to his duties, a goofy smile still plastered upon his face. Silver rolled his eyes at his friend's behaviour, a smile sill present on his face as he let out a sigh. With that out of the way, he left the den in search of his older sister, having not talked to her since yesterday morning.
Silver's eyes hazed over his fellow circus workers as he made his way out, his arms swaying casually by his side. He couldn't recall where his sister stated she was last, but he was almost certain that she'd be doing some odd cheese-sorting or whatever job for Mephiles, considering Shadow wasn't there to do it for him. He knew how tiring being Mephiles' aide must be, several times he'd seen Shadow exit Mephiles' room with ruffled, sweaty fur and tired and slightly annoyed eyes. It was quite odd those few times, whenever Shadow noticed that he was there he'd grow flushed and snap at him, before storming off to what he'd presume would be another pointless job for Mephiles. He'd always wondered why Shadow was so bashful about those sorts of things, but he seemed to brush it off as him not wanting to appear weak, which was always an issue with most of the men in this circus.
He knew that Mephiles soon began his escapade to the festival for his and Rouge's magic show, so no doubt he'd have to his little "good luck" routine beforehand. This meant he needed a single glass of wine from 1845, drunken form silver goblet with a single amethyst encrusted on the side, four pealed red grapes, and a small slice of brie on a water cracker.
That being said, Mephiles' private pantry was his first and best guess. He quickly trotted over to the said places, waving at he who he knew, a bright smile stretching across his lips; something about help starting a sweet relationship put him in such a good mood. He wondered if putting this whole thing together made his sister as happy as it made him.

Blaze let out tired grunt as she moved the last box of wine, looking at the expensive bottles with strong distaste. In the absence of her brother and Mephiles' true aide, the lavender acrobat was forced to look through Mephiles' large collection of European wine to find a single bottle from 1845, the year the said ringmaster was born. Over the years their collection of fine wines from this particular annum seemed to dwindle down in numbers, leaving only a few bottles buried amongst the abidance of alcoholic beverages, a few of which Mephiles had admitted to sharing with his beloved aide in what Blaze could only assume as an attempt to woo him. She shivered at the thought, feeling the bile rise in her throat as she remembered the times she was forced to bear witness to Mephiles' egregious acts.
You'd think Mephiles would be more careful after she walked in on their first night together, but unfortunately that was not the case. Mephiles just made no effort to hide it from her, in fact, whenever the two were caught in their tangled state, whether or whether not both parties were willing, Mephiles called upon her to get whatever Mephiles needed. She couldn't even bear to look Shadow in the eye most of the time; she'd left him in such horrid situations most of the time… To her credit, Mephiles did get overbearingly violent with her, not just Shadow.
While she was in room sometimes the drunken ringmaster would threaten her if Shadow did not obey, they both seemed to be under the impression that Mephiles was bluffing until he grabbed her neck and bashed her head against the wall four times, giving her a concussion which strongly hindered her ability to use her pyrokinesis. She wasn't able to fight him off, and Shadow ended up giving into his demands. That wasn't the only time, either.
There were two others before Shadow finally threw himself into complete submission to the violet sadist. The second time wasn't quite as bad considering what had happened to Shadow prior to her arrival, but one night when Shadow was being particularly disobedient, Mephiles brought her in and usher for her to use her pyrokinesis against Shadow, wanting her to literally burn Mephiles' name into Shadow's chest, the straddled hedgehog begging her with tears in his eyes not to do it. She, in turn, placed a scolding hand mark on Mephiles' own chest, delivering a hard punch straight afterwards. Before she could make her escape, Mephiles grabbed her tail and swung her around into the bed post, grabbing her pony tail and smacking her head into the bedframe once again, knowing full well how do disadvantage (s)he with powers greater than his own. Shadow once again, begged for him to spare her and she was, but the both of them knew full well that Mephiles was going to try this again and again until Shadow just became Mephiles' mindless drone.
The third and final time Mephiles' laid an offending hand on her was no doubt the worst. This time Shadow had done something awfully, awfully bad. According to Rouge who asked her about the matter on a later date, Shadow was grooming Mephiles' quills as he was reading the daily newspaper. It was normal enough until Mephiles started speaking about his brother and father, which was quite odd because he never spoke about himself in such a fashion before, but apparently he seemed to be rather comfortable discussing it with Shadow, unaware of the eavesdropping thief. Mephiles had a brother named Iblis and a father named Solaris who he addressed by his first name, he didn't seem to fond of his brother, saying the two tried to bond but it only ended up as pure chaos, however he appeared to be quite fond of his father.
He brought on the subject of Shadow's family, in which the hedgehog brushed off, saying he had a younger brother, an older sister and a grandfather which he was fond of, but he mentioned that he utterly despised his father. Mephiles of course continued to pry, asking why exactly Shadow and Mister Black were on such bad terms, a question Shadow merely brushed off as "they had their disagreements." Though it was obvious there was a lot, lot more to that then what the ebon hedgehog let on. Mephiles began to go on a tangent, claiming that he wasn't to behave rudely to his father, as his father is always right and just and he was to behave submissively to him, like how he would behave with himself. The violet ringmaster apparently put in a rather untasteful joke about how Shadow should start to call him "Daddy" which resulted in Shadow cutting off his middle centre quill and bashing his face into the desk, breaking one of Mephiles' favoured scotch glasses.
It was at that point Shadow was turned on, picked up kicking and screaming before being carried down to the very wine cellar Blaze was in at the current moment. By this point Rouge left, knowing such actions were going in invoke a whipping or something from Mephiles. One of which she said she didn't mind, she'd whip Shadow too if he cut off parts of her hair. She seemed to be dismissing of it, her eyes showing no signs of worry, as if she truly believed Mephiles wasn't going to harm Shadow past the needed amount. The lavender cat considered this odd, since the ivory bat knew Mephiles for longer than any of them had.
Blaze eventually heard the screams Shadow gave off in that cellar, trying her best to ignore Shadows desperate pleas for forgiveness and begs for this punishment to stop, she wasn't even planning on going if she heard her name called. Sadly enough, she was inevitably addressed, and he newly found utter fear of Mephiles forced her to go, and she honestly could never forget the image that stained her mind.
Shadow was tied down to a thick metal slab that she believed was used for sorting wine, his body forced into a scratching –cat like position, though his arms strapped tightly to his side by rough rope rather than out in front of him. Burns covered the ebon's form, all of which looked like they were used with a cattle brander, the word "M" practically covering his shivering body like a collage, whether it is the burn marks or the rather deep cuts that seemed to bleed out onto the table before them. Some of the M's appeared to be distorted by whip marks that covered his back, white glints drenched in blood and odd, empty brown bottles either broken or knocked over on the floor leading her to believe he rubbed salt and vinegar into these wounds. What worried her most off all was the fact the other appeared to have a knife protruding from his exposed cavity, and the lavender cat honestly wondered how the hedgehog had not yet died.
It took her a while to actually process the sight before her, and the blood-covered Mephiles didn't seem to mind. He waited till the two stared at each other in shame, shock, fear, anger, and other gut-wrenching emotions that seem to swirl in the pit of Blaze's stomach. When he finally addressed her she did not move, merely looked at him with the most horrified expression one could muster. He addressed her again, his acidic eyes seeming to harden, and the lavender cat forced her body to move towards him, finding her body temperature increase to high levels as if she were to release a defensive fire ball at any given moment.
The violet ringmaster appeared eerily content with the situation, his recently cut quills pulled back into a professional looking pony tail, and it appeared that he'd even put on an apron, but in all honestly it was hard to tell underneath the thick layer of bodily fluids. He addressed her again, and commanded she go over and burn off Shadow's centre quill. Such a thing would be a slow and incredibly painful process, but she stood there, unresponsive, not sure whether or not to burn Mephiles to an absolute crisp at this very moment.
Mephiles seemed to have noticed her inner intentions from the moment she thought them, swiftly grabbing her pony tail and smashing her forehead into the very table Shadow was laid on, not hard enough to kill her though, no, he needed her alive. He grabbed the knife from inside Shadow and quickly tore it out, grabbing the end of Blaze's tail and cutting it off in one single motion. The girl had barely any time to scream until she saw the end of her tail hit the ground, her own blood joining the small pool of Shadow's. By this point Shadow screamed for Mephiles to leave her alone, and finally said what Mephiles was supposedly was trying to get him to say this entire time. "I'm all yours, I'm all yours! I'm your pet, your slave, your servant, and I'll submit to you forever master!"
Blaze looked down at her tail now, grimacing as she saw the fur raggedly cover the stub at the end in a very unflattering manner. She really never thought she'd have an injury, given to her by Mephiles like a lot of the older performers had, but here she was, with only half a tail and a head so chock full of bad memories it could explode. She felt as if those words Shadow screamed that day seemed to scar her mind, burnt in there like the erratic display of M's on Shadow's body. It was something she'd never forget, and she had no idea how Shadow could go through that and still act like nothing happened the next day. She just couldn't fathom it.
Blaze stood up and growled, angrily kicking one of the boxes of wine Mephiles had. She still had no idea why she hadn't wasted the utter sack of shit yet, after all he'd done she'd just stood idly by, and she'd always dreamed of burning the other alive in his sleep. It would be better for everyone, she told herself. Especially Shadow. For some reason, she just couldn't. The night after she'd witnessed that event she stood above Mephiles as he slept, vulnerable like a new born baby. She could've just…done it. One stab, one bullet, one high-powered fireball to the head…anything.
Every night she'd come in to finish the other off he'd had his arms tightly wrapped around a sleeping Shadow, just as vulnerable, dozing what appeared as contently in his master's arms. If you'd seen them in any other context you'd just assume they were just another happy couple, trusting each other, feeling safe and comfortable in each other's arms. Blaze just… couldn't wrap her head around it. She couldn't understand why the ebony hedgehog would wear a smile like that, but he just looked way too…happy, for her to disturb. She felt like that content smile that Shadow wore on his muzzle was the reason why she didn't end Mephiles' pathetic life right there and then.
Black Shadow and Mephiles Charbonneau were truly enigmas.
"Ugh, I've had enough of this!" She exclaimed, running her fingers through her hair, truly sick of going on a field trip into the hell that was her psyche. She'd been down here for an hour, she'll just pick a random bottle and scribble 1845 over the actual date Mephiles can go fuck himself for all she cared.
She paused when a familiar chuckle came from behind her, and a pestering voice followed. "Tired of searching already, sis?" The ivory pelt of her younger brother flashed in the corner of her eye, and soon his form came into clear view, she couldn't help but give him a broken smile.
"Yeah… He's had me down here for an hour and I still can't find a damned bottle from 1845." She replied, taking a seat on a wine box, resting her chin on her folded hands. She watched the other give another chuckle and sit beside her, leaning his arms down on his knees. "I hear that." He said with a sigh, looking around at the mountain of bottles. "He must have wine from ever year but '45." He raised a hand to his chin as well, before giving her a knowing smile. "But hey, this works worth it, right? Oh you should've seen the two this mornin'. I don't think Shadow will be walkin' right for at least four days."
Blaze paused and pulled an arm away from her head, blinking mindlessly. He didn't mean…Shadow had been punished again, so severely that he was put out of commission again, that's why she was running all these errands all of a sudden? Did Silver know about Mephiles and Shadow?! The lavender cat seemed panicked for a second, looking over to her brother with worried saffron eyes. "Er… You… you saw that?" Now that he did bring it up, she heard unsettling noises from Mephiles' room this morning.
Silver let out a nervous chuckle and shook his head, a large blush coming onto his muzzle. "No, no… but he told me about it, well, I plan on getting the juicy details out of him later, but he's going to be busy for the next few hours." He rubbed behind his head bashfully, ears slightly wilting.
Blazes' eyes went wide with alarm, her body beginning to shiver as she heard her brother's words. No, no, Silver couldn't be suggesting what she thought he was suggesting could he? He hasn't been conversing with Mephiles over Shadow's torture could he? She shook her head, resting her head in her hands. "I don't believe this." She said, getting up and folding her arms in such a way that it seemed like she was giving herself a comforting hug, begging to pace back and forth worriedly. "How could you do that?"
The ivory hedgehog lent back in alarm, ears pinning down as his amber eyes shot nervously around the place. He too stood up; eyebrows furrowed in confusion at his sisters words. "Whoa Blaze, what do you mean? It's not like he was doing anything wrong."
"He wasn't doing anything wrong?!" The lavender cat hissed, turning around to her younger brother, tears welling in her eyes. "Silver, Mephiles was doing everything wrong! No one has the right to rob someone of their dignity like that, raping Shadow like that and putting him through that utter hell! IS NOT OKAY! I can't believe after all we've been through you'll stand there and get the juicy details of someone's sexual exploitation!"
Silver's eyes shrunk dramatically at his sister's words, his quills sharpening and standing on end as he listened, his own body quaking. "Mephiles is doing WHAT?!"
Blaze immediately paused, her body stiffening at Silver's response. No, no... no, what had she done? Silver would never do something as revolting as that! Why would she even think that, surely she hadn't turned on even her own brother thanks to Mephiles' mind games? She took a second to breath, taking in Silver's expression before truly realising what she'd done. She'd blown Mephiles' secret affair. This cannot be good. "Well, what were you talking about?!" She shouted in response, trying to pull the focus away from what she'd just said.
"Sonic and Shadow's date at the festival down in Paris! Everyone in the circus was in on so Shadow could have a bloody break!" He paused for a second, "No one told you?!"
Blaze shook her head, biting down hard on her lip. "No, no one told me!" She let out a loud whine, stopping and collapsing on the wine box, her head tightly gripped in her hands. Silver soon joined her, raising a hand to his own head to try and process what exactly was going on.
"Wait..." He said, leaning forward and rubbing his face, frustrated. "Lemme get this straight, Mephiles is raping Shadow, frequently, and Shadow just blew him off to go spend the day with Sonic?" Saffron orbs met amber as they considered their situation for a few moments, knowing exactly what kind of man Mephiles was, and how he'd react to such a thing as Shadow sleeping with someone other than him.
"We gotta talk to Shadow."
