Chapter 11
"Hinata are you okay?" Ino asked as she stared down at the nearly unconscious Hyuga princess. Hinata had come over to her house to discuss the floral plans of her and Kankuro's wedding, only to nearly pass out on her bed. Though Ino couldn't blame her, this past month has been filled with nothing but stress and work for the young Hyuga. She's been going from one place to other, tasting cakes, discussing seating arrangements, invitations, floral arrangements, reception plans, food, music, things that a 16 yr. old girl shouldn't be going through. Ino wouldn't know how she would handle all that.
Hinata slowly nodded. "Y-Yes I'm just a little sleepy."
"I can see why." Ino sat down on beside Hinata, who was not lying down on her back. "It's a shame this wedding has to be so soon, it's making everything so rushed."
"Most of the things have been prearrange it's just setting everything up that's a little tiresome." Hinata said softly. It doesn't help that she's been a little bit snappy lately, something that her sister finds quite amusing. She still remembers how she blew up at Neji when he had asked her to do something, which resulting in her screaming about his girl hair.
"Still!" Ino jumped up. "All we've been talking about was work this and flowers that! We need to find a way to have fun!" Hinata sighed.
"Ino….I-I just don't have the time to have fun. Today I have to meet with the planner to discuss a b-bunch of things that I don't really understand."
"But-."
"God Ino can't you take NO for an answer?!" Hinata shouted but quickly covered her mouth. "I-Ino I'm sorry I-."
Ino was shocked for a moment before giggling. "Wow Hinata, I never thought you would be the yelling type."
Hinata sat up and sighed once again. "It's just a-all this stress is kind of getting to me…..I-I um….." Ino felt a surge rush through her, telling her that she was about to hear some gossip. "Sort of shouted at Kankuro yesterday and H-He um…..hasn't talk to me since." Ino bit her lip, trying to control the anger that was growing for the Sabaku. She still didn't trust him and probably never will but for the sake of Hinata, she'll cover her opinion up this one time.
"You know guys are pretty sensitive even though they don't want to admit it." Ino smiled. "He's just a little scared, especially since it came from you."
"I guess….."
"So what did you shout about anyway? She couldn't help but ask. Hinata blushed before muttering what had upset her to the point of shouting at Kankuro. Ino couldn't control the laughter and rolled off of her bed. "Wow Hinata I can't believe you!"
"I-Ino it isn't funny….I already feel foolish enough." Hinata had hoped that he would have understood that she was going through a lot of difficult things and was a little bit on edge. But the look on his face was too scary….too painful to be healed in a day.
Ino's laughter started to slowly fade until a grin was placed on her face.
"Oh don't worry Hinata, Kankuro's a big boy, he'll get over it." Ino sat back down on her bed. "I still can't believe you yelled at him about that." She snickered. "I love you so much Hinata.
"I-Ino….." Hinata blushed.
"So anyways enough about that, we need to get working on this flower crap!" She said before jumping up and getting out a folder that had the words 'SN x IY FOREVER!' written in purple ink. "Now I'm thinking about this but I'm not sure….how do you feel?" She pointed at a very detailed drawing of what the center pieces might be. Hinata will never get over how amazing Ino was at drawing.
"I-I love it!" Ino smiled and continued giving suggestions.
KANKHINA
Kankuro stared up at his ceiling as if he wanted it to burst into flames before him. His chest was building in anger as his teeth clenched together. How could Hinata say those things? Why did she say those things? He tried his best to be the best damn guy towards her and it's like none of that matters to her.
"Hey Hinata are you okay?" Kankuro asked while watching Hinata staring at the invitation with a small frown on her face. They were simply sitting in Hinata's living room, being that they could no longer go to his house, looking at examples of what the invitations would be for the wedding. But Kankuro could tell by Hinata's expression and body language that something was on her mind.
"I don't like it….." She muttered. Kankuro's eye brow rose and he turned his gaze to piece of paper in her hands. It was a light lavender color with the phrase 'You're invited' in gold cursive. A gold band surrounded the envelope, giving the envelope a royal appearance. Truthfully Kankuro could not see what was wrong with it.
"I don't see what the problem is." This was exactly what she asked for!
"W-What do you mean?" She looked up at him. "It's purple! I wanted it to be a light lavender."
"But that is lavender." Kankuro pointed out.
Hinata shook her head. "I know what lavender looks like Kankuro and that's not lavender."
"Does it really matter?" He sighed. "I mean it's just an invitation-."
"It is not just an invitation!" She stood up from her seat. "P-People look at this and expect it to be a symbol o-of the emotions between the couple, perfect! T-This isn't perfect!" Kankuro had never seen Hinata so heated before, well not since that whole Neji thing, so he really had no idea how to handle this.
"It's just an invitation! People look at it then throw it in the trash!"
W-What do you know?!" She huffed. "You don't know anything!"
"I know that you're acting like some crazy brat!" Hinata gasped.
"W-Well then why don't you go to your whores than being around a selfish brat like me?" She screamed. Kankuro growled.
"What the fuck does that mean?!"
"You know exactly what that means!" She turned away. "Go back to your kind!" She ran out of the room, leaving Kankuro to himself.
"Go back to my kind?!" He growled. "She thinks I'm a fucking whore?!" He threw his pillow out of the room, only to hear it hit someone.
"Well….." Kankuro turned sharply to see Temari leaning outside of his room holding onto his thrown pillow. "Is that why you've been in here moping like some drama queen?"
"Oh shut it Temari, I'm not in the mood." Kankuro returned his gaze to the ceiling. "I've been trying all this fucking time to change myself for her and what do I get in repayment? I get called a whore!" He growled. It didn't help that after his little rant his sister decided to find humor in his situation and started giggling. "What the hell is so funny?!"
Temari shook her head. "Are you really taking what Hinata says at this point to heart?" She said in between her laughter.
"What the hell kind of question is that?!" He now sat up and narrowed his eyes.
"Well it's just….." She straightened up and smiled. "You know that she's under stress right?"
"Hell yeah, so am I!" Kankuro has to not only deal with this wedding but he also has to find a way to work around so that he could continue his work in Konoha for the remainder of Hinata's stay in her school. He's dealing with people who want nothing more than to take over his father's business, figure out this whole wedding and trying to find a suitable home for Hinata and him and his siblings in a matter of months. So Hinata was defiantly not the only one that is dealing with a lot of things.
"Then you should know the difference between lashing out of anger and lashing out of stress." She sighed. "I mean do you really think that Hinata would be so upset about invitations?" Kankuro was about to respond but found that Temari was probably right. But it still hurt to hear those words come out of her mouth.
"Hey how do you-."
"You really need to stop talking in your sleep." She smirked. "But that's beside the point. Hinata is just a little overwhelmed at the moment but don't beat yourself up for it.
"Yeah I guess….." He muttered. "So what the hell am I supposed to do?"
"She's your fiancée." She turned away. "You figure it out." Kankuro watched his sister leave and sighed. What was he to do? He obviously needs to apologize for blowing her off but he didn't know how. He wasn't just going to up and say 'I'm sorry', that wasn't his style, so what was he going to do to show her that he didn't take it to heart, even though he did. Kankuro wanted to look back at the times of his father and mother but those were not necessary pleasant memories so he was basically on his own.
"Damn being in a relationship is too damn hard!" He growled. He stared up at his ceiling and pictured Hinata smiling at him with the usual blush that would grace her soft cheeks. His heart was full of feeling he had no idea he could have. He wanted to give the world to her, he wanted to make sure that she would never frown or feel sad. He never knew he could care for someone like this but….he was glad. A thought came to him and he now realized what he was to do. 'Hinata…..'
KANKHINA
Come on out Hinata let's see it!" Tenten shouted from living room. Today was the day that they finally got to see Hinata in her wedding gown. Usually they would have purchased a gown, at least the wedding planner suggested it, but Hinata was firm on wearing the same gown that her mother wore. Tenten knew how close Hinata was to her mother and to see Hinata so determined to wear the dress that her mother were was more than heartwarming. She could only imagine the emotions that might be going through her father at the moment.
"Yeah Hinata!" Hanabi jumped up and down. "Come out and strut it!" It took moments until they heard footsteps walking down the stairs and rushed towards the foyer to see who was walking down the stairs. Everything then became in slow motions. "W-Wow….." Hanabi said softly. Sakura and Ino, who finally came out of the kitchen, stared in awe at the young woman who was walking down the stairs.
"H-How do I look?" Hinata stuttered, a blush apparent on her face. She stared at the awed faces of her friends and quickly felt embarrassment. She jumped at a gasp and looked to see Neji and Hiashi walking in with towel wrapped around their shoulders, showing that they had just came back from a sparring match. She had forgotten to tell her father that she had wanted to wear her mother's dress. 'I hope he isn't mad…..' She slowly continued to walk down the stairs. "F-Father I-I'm sorry for not mentioning this b-but um…." She was however shocked to feel her father's hand rest on her shoulders and a smile spread on his face.
"You look beautiful Hinata…." He said in a soft tone.
"R-Really…?" He nodded.
"You look just like your mother." He still remembers the day that he had first seen her mother in that dress. How the light gently touched her light skin and how her smile made the whole room glow. He remembered feeling completely unworthy of standing before her, of being her husband. She was everything to him and when she died….he died a little. But seeing Hinata in this dress reminded him that she would always be with him through both of his daughters.
"T-Thank you father…." Hiashi smiled and turned to Neji.
"We shall continue our sparring match another time." Neji nodded and bowed. "Now if you all need me I shall be in my office." Nodded towards Hinata's friends before walking up the stairs; taking one last glance at his daughters. 'They grow up so fast….'
"W-What do you think Big Brother?" Hinata turned to Neji. Neji gave her a small smile.
"You are quite beautiful Lady Hinata." Hinata smiled and wanted to hug her cousin but didn't want the dress to smell like sweat.
"Yeah Hinata you look hot!" Tenten winked. Sakura and Ino nodded while Hanabi hugged her sister with a tight grip.
"WHY ARE YOU SO PRETTY?!" She cried out dramatically, causing everyone to laugh. The laughter however was over when they heard the door bell and a voice that Hinata didn't want to hear right at that moment.
"Hey Hinata; it's Kankuro." Panic ran through her face. She had heard that seeing the bride in her dress before the wedding day was bad luck and though Hinata did not really believe in bad luck, she was not about to take her chances. Thinking quickly she ran into the kitchen and closed the doors.
"L-Let him in!" She called from the kitchen. Neji shook his head and walked over to the door, allowing the Sabaku to enter.
"Where's Hinata?"
Ino grinned. "She's in the kitchen but you can't go in."
"Why not?" He frowned.
"Because she's in her wedding dress dummy!" Hanabi stepped in front of the door. "It's bad luck!"
"Oh geez don't tell me you guys actually believe in that…." He muttered.
"Oh stop being a kill joy!" Sakura crossed her arms. "What do you want?"
"I can here to see if Hinata wanted to go on a date with me today." Kankuro said in a bored tone. "But since she's busy I'll-."
"N-No I will!" She shouted. "B-But you have to close your eyes!" Kankuro rolled his eyes but complied and quickly closed his eyes. He heard the door open and felt a quick wind pasted him and go up the stairs. He opened them again to see everyone grinning at him.
"What?"
"Soooooo…." Ino walked over to him. "Where are you taking our little Hinata?" Kankuro felt his cheeks blush and turned away from the blond.
"Just out to dinner, nothing big." He lied easily. Unfortunately he had not considered Ino as intelligent as she was, thus seeing through his lie.
"Oh yeah of course it is." She said sarcastically.
"Just make sure she comes back safe." Tenten sighed. She had grown something of a tolerance for Kankuro now that she had gotten to know him more. Sure she still did not fully trust him but she did find his willingness to change impressive. So she knew that Hinata was in safe hands.
"I promise to bring her back with both her arms in take." He said sarcastically. He however stopped and turned when he heard his name being called from up the stairs. Hinata walked out in a simple white T-shirt with a jean jacket and black skirt and scandals. Kankuro smiled and gently grabbed her hand as soon as she was near him.
"You look beautiful." Hinata blushed and looked down.
"T-Thank you Kankuro….." She said softly. She turned glance to her friends and bowed. "I-I'll um see you all tomorrow, w-we need to go looking for your dresses."
'Sure thing Hinata, have a good time." Ino and Sakura said in unison while Neji and Tenten nodded. Hinata faced Kankuro again and started to walk out of the room. As soon as they left Hanabi felt the need to speak.
"What do you guys think they're going to be doing?" She asked.
"I have no idea." Ino shrugged. "But I'm going to go to the mall if any of you wanna come." They all looked at each other before nodding and walking out. "You coming Hanabi?" Hanabi nodded quickly and followed them out, her mind still on that look that Kankuro had in his eyes.
KANKHINA
"You know I had thought I heard you s-saying we were going out to dinner." Hinata giggled before licking her ice-cream.
"What you never had ice-cream for dinner?" He asked with a grin on his face. Kankuro original plan was to actually take her out to dinner but unfortunately the restaurant was booked so he thought that maybe ice-cream and a walk in the park would be a nice change. "You're not having fun?"
Hinata blushed and nodded. "Y-Yes I am! I'm sorry for seeming so rude." He couldn't help but chuckle at her strange apology.
"Geez Hinata I was joking." He continued to laugh.
Her blush grew as she looked down at the ground. "I-I just…." She bit her lip. "I'm sorry Kankuro about what I said a couple of days ago. I-I was just so stressed a-and I-I…." She started to tear up, quickly silencing his laughter. Thinking quick, Kankuro dropped his ice-cream and wrapped his arms around her shoulders, causing her to drop her own as well.
"Hey it's okay really; I know how it feels to be overwhelmed Hinata so don't cry." He said in a tender tone, something that he only allows her to hear. Hinata however, continued to sob and buried her face in his chest.
"I'm s-still sorry…" She muttered. Kankuro smiled and kissed the top of her head.
"You don't have to be." He sighed. "I'm sorry too for giving you the cold shoulder, guess I took it to heart." She looked up at him, her tear filled eyes staring into his own. "Hinata I…" He didn't know what came over him. It could have been the sun setting in the background, it could have been the quietness of the park or it could have been the pure and innocent light coming from the girl in his arms. "….I love you…." The world was silent. The birds had stopped their singing and the crickets had stopped their songs. The only thing that could be heard was the heartbeats of the young couple.
Hinata felt shock, pure and utter shock. This man that she had only known for a short amount of time, has just told her that he loved her? She didn't know what to say, she didn't know what to do. Her face was heating while her tears remained forgotten. She stared back up at him and saw the panic in his eyes. She couldn't help but smile up and him and laid her head back down on his chest, her ear gently listening to his heartbeat. "….I love you too…Kankuro…." She looked back up at him and was shocked to feel his lips pressing passionately against hers.
The joy that he had felt from his heart was overwhelming. He has had women proclaim their love for him many times but never had they touched his heart. Never had their world caused him to feel a rush of emotions that he was feeling now. He never…..he never loved them back. But this girl, this woman that he had met for only a short amount of time, caused him to feel alive again. She made him wish to be better not just for his sake but for her. She was everything to him now and…..she loves him.
"Hinata I….." He buried his face in her hair. Suddenly he's plans for the evening came to mind and he quickly grabbed her hand and ran towards the lake that lied in the center of the park. "Hinata I know this wasn't the best way to start a relationship but I don't care." He stared into his eyes. "I love you and I want to make this as special as possible. I want you to feel the same way that every woman should feel so…." He slowly got down on one knee and pulled out a little white box from his pocket. "I know that I haven't made the best first impression, hell I don't even deserve to be in front of you, but…..I really and honestly love you and I want to ask you to make me the luckiest man in the world so….." He opened the box, revealing a beautiful diamond ring. "Hinata Hyuga…Will you marry me?"
Hinata was speechless. Her heart was racing. She felt new tears building but not out of sadness. She nodded quickly, letting the tears fall from her eyes. This moment…she had dreamed of this moment so many times since she had met him. She never felt this way about anyone, not even Naruto. Kankuro brought out something that Hinata had always wanted; he made her have this confidence that she never had before. He has become so important to her that…she wouldn't know what she would do if something where to happen to him. Kankuro smiled brightly and quickly placed the ring on her finger.
"I love you Hinata…." He got up and wrapped his arms around her once more.
"I love you too Kankuro…."
