Daenerys: Thranduil's Daughter

Chapter 11: A Dark Reality

Daenerys cringed as she lay face first on the floor while the other half of her body lay angled on her bed. The blankets spilled around her, soaking in a green stain. She stared horror-stricken at the liquid, that pooled ominously from the orifice of the fallen bottle, the fluid seeped onto the base and slowly crept disappearing beneath her bed, on to her doll and into her blankets. She had been awakened by the immense pain in her chest, when she attempted to stretch for her medication, it intensified with any kind of apparent motion, eventually causing her to pass from her bed and knock the bottle onto the base with her fingertips. Tears drifted softly down her flushed cheeks as the searing pain in her breast radiated unrelentingly within her small physique. Her hands trembled from the throbbing, with every move she made the agony grew with a renewed piercing within her breast. She was suffocating on her own convulsions. She wanted to cry out, but the extraordinary suffering would only in engulf her more, swallowing her up into it's obscurity. At that moment her stubbornness lost out and she realized she needed help. When Daenerys opened her mouth only silence escaped, it was becoming so unbearable that she couldn't form the words in her head. She could feel the blackness slowly creeping into the edges of her consciousness. Her breaths were coming in short breaths, with every inhale the anguish pursued with new residence starting in her breast and expanding outward. Not long after, the edges of the darkness closed in and her world went black.

When Daenerys never showed up for breakfast Thranduil decided to look for her. As he walked past the windows, glancing outside as he passed. She was not outside. He rounded the corner of the corridor and made his way towards his daughter's room. One time he opened the doorway to her room, his blood thickened into ice, sending shivers through the entirety of his body, barring him into place.

"D…Daen…ereys?" his voice broke as he stumbled forward, dropping to his knees beside her. He could hear her desperate gasps as she struggled for breath. Thranduil had his daughter up into his arms and the nearly empty bottle off the floor in one swift movement. There wasn't much of the sickeningly green liquid left in the glass bottle, but he hoped it was plenty. He put the bottle to her lips as she whimpered in pain.

"Shhhh." Thranduil soothed, wishing she would open her eyes. Her paling skin radiated heat against the exposed flesh of his arms. "Drink this baby. Please." Her breathing seemed to become more strained and shallow with every dying second. He held her up as in hopes that she would not choke on the fluid. Sure enough, the moment he began to pour with a quivering hand, she gagged on the liquid and coughed violently, the liquid seeped from the nooks of her mouth and down her chin.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he pleaded, as he attempted to steady his hand, this time he succeeded and she managed to swallow what was left of the valuable liquid. Once the bottle was empty he dropped it back into its previous place on the floor. He slowly began to rock her back and forth, using soothing words as he willed the liquid to work quickly.

When Daenerys slowly crept back into consciousness, the pain was lessening but still quite prominent. "It hurts…" her whisper wouldn't of been heard by anyone but an elf, as her eyes slowly fluttered but they didn't open.

"I know it does baby," Thranduil said slowly as both Legolas and Elrond looked at her with sorrow and concern. "It's going to be alright, I will never leave you. We are doing everything we can to make you well."

After Thranduil had managed to get her to drink the disgusting green liquid he sent for Elrond to come to his aide. All previous quarrels between them no longer mattered to either of them. Thranduil held his daughter close as Elrond, Legolas, Adan and Alyan worked frantically to try to obtain the ingredients to create a stronger elixir.

"Her fever is getting higher!" Thranduil said, trying to hide the panic, "We have to cure her soon!" He could the feel her flesh warming his skin, to the point he was becoming afraid.

"This will not heal her," Elrond said slowly as he ground the plants Legolas handed him into powder, "I am not certain of what is troubling her. This only seems to slow the process of whatever it is and mask the symptoms. From what we can get out of her, she has been having to take more and more of this elixir to even get relief. I fear that whatever is plaguing her, it is becoming immune and it is no longer being slowed down."

"What does that mean?" Legolas asked, peering at his sister who moaned painfully in their father's arms as he did his best to soothe the suffering little girl.

"I fear." Elrond said as he put the powder into the liquid as it slowly bent into a rich ill shade of deep green. He poured some of the container's contents into a small cup and handed it to Thranduil. Everyone held their breath as she swallowed the fluid. Time passed so slowly that it felt like an eternity before her body slowly begin to relax against Thranduil and her breathing steadied as it returned to normal.

Elrond sighed in relief as all the fright and tension drifted from the room, but yet it still seemed to loom like an ominous mist. "I fear," he said again, "that if a remedy for whatever is plaguing her isn't discovered soon, that she will die."

A tomb-like silence filled the room, as the ominous mist seemed to plummet onto everyone devouring them into an immediate despair. The dark reality slowly crept into Thrinduil as he clasped his daughter tighter. "We cannot allow that to happen!"

"We won't," Elrond said, trying to sound as reassuring as possible, even though he was questioning his abilities to heal his granddaughter. "As soon as she is strong enough for it, I will find what is ailing her. Until then she needs rest, and lots of it."

Thranduil kissed his daughter's forehead, "We will heal you, my child, do not fret. We will never leave your side."
