Chapter 11

Serenity stared at the dark haired woman, a being that may destroy all existence with so much as a wink. Or, she could prove to be both. Beneficial and outright scary. Serenity asked "What things did she make you realize you had?" The dark lady looked at all of them before sighing. She waved a hand in the air, and instantly, several chairs appeared, and The woman known as Mekai gestured for the scouts and their queen to each pick a seat. They complied. "Well, for one. I was nothing more than a beggar living in the streets. But, even as I was, I knew secrets." Mekai had shifted a leg over the other, getting comfortable. "How so?" Ami asked. "Well, picture this. I'm a beggar. I'm the bottom of the barrel yet I leak at the bottom, sinking lower yet still when none think it could get any worse. No one wants to acknowledge my existence. No one sees me. They see me, but they don't." "So.." Raye began. "You were seen as a disease of sorts to the norm of society?" Mekai nodded appreciatively. "You catch on quick, child of fire. Well done. But it was not just myself in that same situation." The scouts looked among each other and finally to their queen. "You mean there are more of them?" Mina asked. The one sailor scout in green looked genuinely concerned. Her name was Lita. "Aye, many more. As I have said, we are ignored because of our bottom-of-the-barrel existence. But we have that used to our advantage." Lita's eyes flared up in realization. Mekai smiled at this approvingly. "Ah, smart girls, look at you catching on so quickly! Yes. We were unseen, so we could do things. We knew things. We learned information. We knew whom to avoid and who was alright." Serenity leaned back in the chair Mekai had graciously provided. The castle's courtyard had tree's that rustled and their branches bounced occasionally when a bird landed on them. Serenity asked "So where are the others?" Mekai smiled, placing a teacup back down on a table that was in front of all of them. "My dear White Moon Queen, they are already here." As Mekai spoke, Serenity and the others could make out several humanoid figures appearing in the distance. From large to small, they could be seen inching forward, their forms wavering only slightly in the distance. "Oh.." Lita mouthed half absentmindedly. They were significant in number, but yet not so. Ten or so of them came closer and closer until their forms could be seen clearly. A young teenage male, a small little girl, two men, three women, plus others that where behind them. Mekai had taken another sip of her tea and rose from her chair. Her yellow and blue star like eyes glittered. "I have brought you ten of this city's finest." She spoke sarcastically. One by one, the people acknowledged Mekai. The little girl and teenage boy ran towards Mekai. "Mekaiiiiii!" squealed the little girl. Two more kids appeared. Their clothes where either torn or dirtied, some with stains they decided not to think of. Others looked like they bore the latter on their backs. Mekai murmured in the young girl's hair. Serenity stared at the people, and Mekai. "You know all of them?" A man stepped forward. "Aye, your majesty. We are our own little community. We have to be, otherwise and only then would we truly not exist." Mekai put the little girl she'd been holding down on the ground carefully. Lita had looked to the girl. She had dragged along a ragged stuffed animal of sorts. No, it should be called a rag for what it's worth. The stuffing had dangled in bits and pieces. Lita could barely make out the stuffy's head dangling limply. Mekai took notice as well. "Allow me to introduce you to all of them." Mekai then turned back to the crowd of ten people. She embraced them all in quick hugs. "This," she gestured to the man who had spoken to Serenity moments ago " Is Awren." The man nodded. They noticed a rather long scar marred the side of his face and up through the center of his eye. Amazingly, I seemed as if he could still see out of that one eyes as it looked to them all. Mekai reached out an arm to the others and they stepped forward. "The three ladies are Reien, June, and Kaye. The last adult male is called Othrus." The last man she'd mentioned was tall, he had shoulder length black hair that was brushed back from his forehead. They each nodded in acknowledgement of their names being mentioned. The children were named last. They started with the girl with the ragged teddybear who now looked at Lita with a curiosity that made Lita squirm in attempts to ignore it. "The little one near Lita is named Ruiri. The teenage boy had not moved from Mekai's side. He was blonde and looked at them with an uncertainty that could be marked as fear, as his gaze darted like a ping pong ball. "His name is Kuroei." The last three poked their heads out and squirmed past. "Rachi, Gisly, Seven." Two more men and one woman had managed to wiggle themselves into view. More chairs had appeared. No one had noticed. "So please tell me… What have all of you, hidden in the darkness, seen that I have not?" Serenity looked at the crowd of them with genuine concern. The little girl no longer stood on the ground, but sat in Lita's lap, curling a strand of Lita's hair. Lita was pink in the face, and attempted to ignore. The girl noticed this and giggled. That was what broke Lita. She huffed and looked at the mangled bear and stared. It wasn't mangled anymore, it had been replaced somehow. The girl was the second to notice and squealed. Mekai winked at Lita, who simply looked down, closing her eyes. It was then that they all began to speak, and tell their stories one by one.
